Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Auckland Rail Map

[edit]

Hi. On the page List of Auckland railway stations, I have made use of the file File:AucklandRailMap.png. The map looks like this:

NOTE: THE MAP NOW DISPLAYS THE VERSION AFTER VARDION EDITED IT, NOT AS IT FORMERLY WAS Akld guy (talk) 12:10, 17 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The map is a little outdated, but I lack the skills to edit it. Things that need fixing are:

  • The Onehunga Line has been fully operational for some time. It is not a simple branch off the Southern Line at Penrose, but a dedicated route all the way from Britomart. It needs a purple line starting at Britomart and continuing south between the green Western Line and the red Southern Line, then continuing left of the Southern Line until it branches off at Penrose. At that point the dotted line should be made continuous to Onehunga.
  • "Planned Reopening of Onehunga Branch" needs to be relabelled "Onehunga Line".
  • "Suggested Underground Loop" needs to be relabelled "City Rail Link (CRL) under construction".
  • Parnell Station is nearing completion and needs adding just north of Newmarket station.

Perhaps you might oblige by editing the map. Thank you for reading. Akld guy (talk) 21:55, 16 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much!!! The new pic is just what was needed. It seems though, that the caches haven't updated yet, as the old pic is still showing. Or can you suggest some other reason? Akld guy (talk) 02:01, 17 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I have managed to get the new version into service by doing a purge. That is done by inserting purge with 2 curly brackets on each side into the section where the call to the map file exists. It forces an immediate update of the cache. A further little ask: if you can spare the time, could you change the colours of the dots for the fare stages from gray to some other colour to distinguish them from ordinary stations? Also, Parnell's dot is larger than the other ordinary stations, perhaps giving it more significance than it ought to have? Many thanks again. Akld guy (talk) 03:43, 17 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

That is very good work indeed!! Thank you very much. Akld guy (talk) 06:24, 17 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Vardion. Would you please be kind enough to swing the names Westfield and OTAHUHU over to the other side of the Southern Line. Historically the Southern came into existence before the Eastern. The way those stations are named makes it look like the Southern Line joins the Eastern, whereas it is the Southern that is the older and more significant. Akld guy (talk) 18:32, 17 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. I think nobody would disagree that that is an improvement. Akld guy (talk) 19:59, 17 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

NIMT map

[edit]

Hi again Vardion. The article North Island Main Trunk has a map that shows the NIMT route with coloured stages to show diesel and electrified sections. The map hasn't been updated since 2007, and the user who created it, Jorg Muller, hasn't edited since 2008. The map is here: .

Was wondering whether you would be interested in inserting Papakura station just north of Pukekohe station and changing the colour of the Auckland-Papakura section to red to indicate electrification. I'd also like different shades of red to differentiate between the 1500V DC section near Wellington and the 25KV AC sections elsewhere. Perhaps the current dull red for the Wellington section, and bright red for the higher voltage sections. Thanks for reading. Akld guy (talk) 20:03, 25 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Would you be kind enough to remove Westfield station from the map (above). I have no idea how to do it. Thanks for your time. Akld guy (talk) 06:32, 13 March 2017 (UTC) Also, all the black dots that represent fare stages need removing because there are no longer fare stages. Auckland has 13 fare zones, with some zone overlap areas. Akld guy (talk) 22:52, 13 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I've gone ahead and done the above, using Paint, but it doesn't look as good as it would if you did it with the proper program. Another thing that needs doing is renaming Boston Road station to Grafton. Akld guy (talk) 23:36, 16 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Another thing: the fare stage stations are still shown in upper case. They need to be lower cased because fare stages no longer exist and the present state might mislead readers. Akld guy (talk) 20:37, 12 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Auckland Railway Map

[edit]

Hey, what font did you use for the station labels on the map? I was going to replace Boston Road station with Grafton but couldn't find the right one. VerySunday (talk) 04:37, 21 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@VerySunday: I'm watching with interest. I tried updating Boston Road to Grafton a couple of years ago, but Paint doesn't seem to allow sloping text and there's no way to fit horizontal text to the line. Akld guy (talk) 05:50, 21 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hello -- the font is Liberation Sans, I believe. Since I happen to have the original file on hand right now (which is not always the case), I've gone and uploaded a SVG version of it at File:Auckland_Rail_Map.svg. I don't know if it's any use, and the file is probably a bit messy, but it might make it easier for other people to edit the file when I'm not able to. -- Vardion (talk) 19:24, 21 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Vardion: Thanks for that. And @Akld guy: If you want something a bit more powerful than paint I'd recommend paint.net It's an open-source photoshop, essentially. VerySunday (talk)
@VerySunday: Thanks for the suggestion. I'll check it out. And thanks for changing Boston Road to Grafton. Akld guy (talk) 08:12, 23 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Template:Faroese parliamentary election, 2011 requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion because it is an unused duplicate of another template, or a hard-coded instance of another template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is not actually the same as the other template noted, please consider putting a note on the template's page explaining how this one is different so as to avoid any future mistakes.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Stay Behind

[edit]

What source did you use to add the 3 stay behind operations for France? I could not find such a source. But that is interesting. 89.87.161.129 (talk) 15:55, 17 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, it has been so long since I edited Stay-behind that I don't remember what sources I was using at the time. (I wasn't very good at recording that sort of thing, fifteen years ago.) I may simply have added them based on the references to them in the Operation Gladio article -- if so, the references seem to be:
I'm certainly not an expert on the subject, however -- perhaps the mentions of them in Stay-behind should be removed until someone more knowledgeable than me can confirm things. -- Vardion (talk) 23:25, 17 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Population density maps

[edit]

In 2008 you created a series of population density maps for New Zealand regions from 2006 census results. I think they're fantastic, but they are getting quite old. Could you recreate them from the 2023 census? If the work is all in the setup and not in the actual production (ie if making additional maps takes very little extra time), would you mind doing maps by district as well? If you don't have time, but you have a script which I could adapt for the 2023 census, I'd be happy to give it a go.-Gadfium (talk) 23:52, 18 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,
I don't really have access to any of my original files (changed computers, etc), and I didn't really know how to properly automate/streamline the process back then anyway, so I won't be able to reuse anything of it. However, it should be simple enough for me to plug the new census data and shapefiles into QGIS and produce something fairly similar that way. I'm not sure how long it'll take, but I'll see if I can upload something in a few days. -- Vardion (talk) 06:37, 19 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Great, thanks!-Gadfium (talk) 07:58, 19 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've uploaded new maps for regions, territorial authorities (except the Chatham Islands), and Auckland wards. The regional maps use level 2 statistical areas; the others use level 3 (and unitary authorities have two maps, since I didn't know which series it was preferable to keep them consistent with). They're all under Commons:Category:Population density maps of New Zealand, but I haven't added them to any actual articles. I hope they'll be of use -- let me know if I've overlooked anything. -- Vardion (talk) 02:43, 20 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent, I wasn't expecting such quick work. I'll start adding them to the articles tomorrow.-Gadfium (talk) 04:01, 20 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
