[edit]Guild of Copy Editors December 2016 News
Hello everyone, and welcome to the December 2016 GOCE newsletter. We had an October newsletter all set to go, but it looks like we never pushed the button to deliver it, so this one contains a few months of updates. We have been busy and successful! Coordinator elections for the first half of 2017: Nominations are open for election of Coordinators for the first half of 2017. Please visit the election page to nominate yourself or another editor, and then return after December 15 to vote. Thanks for participating! September Drive: The September drive was fruitful. We set out to remove July through October 2015 from our backlog (an ambitious 269 articles), and by the end of the month, we had cut that pile of oldest articles to just 83. We reduced our overall backlog by 97 articles, even with new copyedit tags being added to articles every day. We also handled 75% of the remaining Requests from August 2016. Overall, 19 editors recorded copy edits to 233 articles (over 378,000 words). October Blitz: this one-week copy-editing blitz ran from 16 through 22 October; the theme was Requests, since the backlog was getting a bit long. Of the 16 editors who signed up, 10 editors completed 29 requests. Barnstars and rollover totals are located here. Thanks to all editors who took part. November Drive: The November drive was a record-breaker! We set out to remove September through December 2015 from our backlog (239 articles), and by the end of the month, we had cut that pile of old articles to just 66, eliminating the two oldest months! We reduced our overall backlog by 523 articles, to a new record low of 1,414 articles, even with new tags being added to articles every day, which means we removed copy-editing tags from over 800 articles. We also handled all of the remaining Requests from October 2016. Officially, 14 editors recorded copy edits to 200 articles (over 312,000 words), but over 600 articles, usually quick fixes and short articles, were not recorded on the drive page. Housekeeping note: we do not send a newsletter before every drive or blitz. To have a better chance of knowing when the next event will start, add the GOCE's message box to your Watchlist. Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators: Jonesey95, Corinne and Tdslk. |

[edit]Thanks for the copy-edit. The article has just become a GA. Regards.Tintor2 (talk) 13:15, 8 December 2016 (UTC)
- @Tintor2: You're welcome. Congratulations on the GA. Twofingered Typist (talk) 13:28, 8 December 2016 (UTC)
Hi again
[edit]Hi, not sure if you remember, back in June (here) I've asked you for help with this article. Since then I've worked around it and changed few things, so if you could briefly have a look at it again that would be great. Thanks a lot. ArturSik (talk) 03:43, 5 December 2016 (UTC)
Thanks a lot. I will archive all the links, however I don't think the archived url should be added to the article until the actual one expires. ArturSik (talk) 15:04, 5 December 2016 (UTC)
I'll do that then. Just wasn't 100% sure about that one as I haven't seen it anywhere else where the active link is backed up with the archived one in advance. ArturSik (talk) 15:24, 5 December 2016 (UTC)
Yeah, I personally think this is the way it should be. the only reason I questioned it was because I haven't seen anyone do that before, but I will definitely do it. ArturSik (talk) 19:53, 5 December 2016 (UTC)
Hey, I've just expanded the article by adding two new sections to it: Artistry and Public image. Could you please have a look at it whenever it suits you. Apart from grammar and all that you may also want to kinda assess both sections 'cause some of the stuff I have written about might be irrelevant and you're definitely more experienced than I am, so you'll be able to tell what should go. ArturSik (talk) 09:55, 10 December 2016 (UTC)
- Hi,
- "our neighbour" has actually been sampled in "Wasted"
- I've got rid of few information about "TYVM" and merged all into one paragraph.
- are you sure the information about Forbes' and Wprost' lists should go to "Other ventures". Maybe I should just get rid of it at all and leave it in the lead as it was before.
- could you just have a brief look at the grammar and that would be perfect?
Thanks a lot. That really helped a lot. ArturSik (talk) 18:44, 10 December 2016 (UTC) @ArturSik: Yes ... the Forbes/Wprost info needs to be in the body of the article and cited if it appears in the lead. I would use the word "sampled" rather than "interpolates" (which most readers won't understand) in the discussiom about "Wasted". Otherwise ... everything looks good.Twofingered Typist (talk) 21:39, 10 December 2016 (UTC)
- ok. Thanks a lot again. I will change that, however I'm still not sure about those lists included in 'other ventures', for me there's just no reason to include that there, what do you think of moving it to the 'Musical career' section. ArturSik (talk) 21:55, 10 December 2016 (UTC) also, what do you think of moving the info about her influences to the personal life section. And do you know how to do the phonetical version of her name which is usually added in brackets next to her name ? ArturSik (talk) 21:59, 10 December 2016 (UTC)
- I'm really sorry for taking so much of your time. I've just added final changes to the article, so if you could have a look. I'm not sure if that sentence in particular is grammatically correct: "During the creative process of the album Margaret listened to Ella Fitzgerald and Diana Krall both of whom she has cited as inspirations for the album.". Other than that I think it all looks good. The only thing that's left is the phonetically written version of her name that I wanted to include there as well, if you could do that that would be brilliant. Again thanks a lot, I really appreciate your help. ArturSik (talk) 02:44, 11 December 2016 (UTC)
- @ArturSik: Had another run through the article and made some minor changes - I think it's done now. I added the phonetic version of "Margaret" - haven't a clue how to do her actual Polish name, sorry.Twofingered Typist (talk) 13:56, 11 December 2016 (UTC)
- @ArturSik: I've just seen your other questions. I moved the material in Influences to the appropriate locations earlier in the article - good idea. The "Other Ventures" are paying gigs that are not directly part of her musical career as songwriter/singer/performer so should stay where they are in my opinion.Twofingered Typist (talk) 14:14, 11 December 2016 (UTC)
- I really like it, thank you so much and sorry for being a pain. I've made few minor corrections to your edit. 1) You've removed 'in Web' from 'Best Artist in Web' which I had to bring back as 'Best Artist' is a separate category. 'Best Artist in Web' is awarded for achievements in web such as YT views, followers on social media etc. 2) I had no intentions of merging 'other ventures' with 'musical career'. What I was talking about were the '50 most influential' and '100 most valuable stars' lists which you have advised me to include in 'other ventures' which I wasn't sure about so I've asked if it wouldn't be a better idea to included in the 'musical career' section. 3) about the pronunciation of her name, I obviously know how to pronounce that, however I've no idea how to use those codes (https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Help:IPA_for_Polish). I've came up with this - Polish pronunciation: [mawɡɔˈʐata ˈjamˈrɔʐɨ] but I'm not entirely convinced. I've taken the pronunciation of her first name from the article about the name itself so I think that should be fine. and her last name is more less pronounced as 'yumrodgy'. ArturSik (talk) 15:39, 11 December 2016 (UTC)
- @ArturSik:I looked up the reference for Best Artist in Web because in English this doesn't make sense, but the reference was no help. This needs to be clarified. I don't think the lists should be moved - they are fine where they are. I would not have made the edits you have done in the section on Matt Dusk - they don't flow well. You don't want to repeat names any more than necessary - but it's your article. I haven't a clue about Polish phonetics so I suggest you add what you think it should be and if it's wrong, someone who knows will fix it. Twofingered Typist (talk) 16:19, 11 December 2016 (UTC)
- 1) as I said I'm not thinking of moving those lists anywhere. Before when I included them in Public image you said that it would be better to move them to Other ventures section, however I didn't think it really fits there, so I moved them where they are now, so that is sorted. 2) Here the category name is translated as Best Artist Network, don't know if that makes any sense. 3) I'll have a look at the Matt Dusk bit again. ArturSik (talk) 16:35, 11 December 2016 (UTC)
- I'd go with Best Artist Network and use that citation. I'm till unclear what it actually means!Twofingered Typist (talk) 16:54, 11 December 2016 (UTC)
- how about 'Best Network Artist', cause I'm honestly running out of ideas? ArturSik (talk) 13:42, 13 December 2016 (UTC)
- @ArturSik: This sounds good, go with it. Twofingered Typist (talk) 20:38, 13 December 2016 (UTC)
- There are other options, "Best Artist Online" and one suggested by another user: "Best Artist on the Internet" and the second one is literally what it is in Polish, so which one do you think is the best one? I know that the best one would be the one closest to the Polish meaning but I personally think the "Best Artist Online" one is a good one. to be honest they all mean the same so it's a matter of choosing the one which is translated the best so that people reading it won't question its meaning. ArturSik (talk) 20:49, 13 December 2016 (UTC)
- @ArturSik: If Best Artist on the Internet is closest to Polish, then I'd go with it. Quotes around the award name are not required, by the way. Twofingered Typist (talk) 21:05, 13 December 2016 (UTC)
- ok, I'll use that one then, and yea I know, I never use them in the articles just here, don't know why?. thanks again for helping our and all your edits. I appreciate it. ArturSik (talk) 21:09, 13 December 2016 (UTC)
