Nomination of Cyber Chess for deletion

Fair enough. But with the discussion as it was, it didn't look to me as if consensus would be reached. I was trying to help a little with the backlog. Per WP:NACD, Decisions are subject to review and may be reopened by any administrator. Therefore, I would expect that in due course any admin(s) reviewing Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Log/2012 January 3 would reopen the discussion if the closure were to be deemed inappropriate. Hi. Sorry if the following appears unhelpful but I don't feel that reversing the close is necessary. An admin can reopen the discussion, and may well do so in the coming hours/days. I reviewed the four references (current version) before closing and felt that the article meets WP:GNG. Yes, the discussion could be relisted but I feel that the likely outcome would still be no consensus. WP:RELIST states That said, relisting should not be a substitute for a "no consensus" closure. If the closer feels there has been substantive debate, disparate opinions supported by policy have been expressed, and consensus has not been achieved, a no-consensus close may be preferable.

Regarding The Huffington Post, this appears to be a contentious issue which has led to various outcomes in the past, e.g.

You may be correctly identifying poor judgement on my behalf. If this is the case, an admin may reopen the discussion. If that happens, I should like to offer my apologies in advance. Alternatively, the closure could be taken to WP:DELREV after an appropriate time period has elapsed (to give admins the opportunity to reopen/relist the discussion). If I agreed with you, yes I would reverse the closure. But there is a backlog and I feel that the likely outcome would remain no consensus. Hey Trevj! Thank you for your quick and energetic responses to questions on the Teahouse. Since you are a master of quick and fast Wikipediaing, I'd love to have your help with inviting more new editors to participate, since we have more hosts than we do questions. I also hope that some of our other hosts will chime in, so perhaps if you, myself, and a few other folks can focus on invitations, it'll inspire some of the other hosts to participate and get some practice in. Your Novell NetWare and Novell DOS edits

Hi. Please stop splitting articles into separate articles such as you did with the "DR-DOS" article into "Novell DOS" without prior talk page discussion and seeking consensus. Novell DOS 7 was the direct successor of DR DOS 6.0 and PalmDOS and the direct predecessor of Caldera OpenDOS 7.01 (before the product was renamed back to DR-DOS eventually). Unfortunately, the product saw many name changes, where updating the version number would have been enough. Splitting this into separate articles will create unnecessary redundancy and cause confusion. I cannot see a reason to move the Novell DOS section into a separate article unless you wanted to expand the Novell DOS section considerably so that it would be totally out of proportion in comparison with the other sections in the existing DR-DOS article afterwards. However, you should then start adding to the article first and discuss a potential split before doing it.

Also, your bold move of the long established "Novell NetWare" article to "NetWare" is hardly "non-controversial", in particular if you don't clean up the many dangling links yourself afterwards (as is required by policy). Hi. Thanks for sharing your concerns with me.

Per WP:BRD, I'll be opening discussion on the proposed split to see if consensus can be determined that way. (Your revert does not mean that is the consensus view, and it appears that there was no discussion at the time of the original redirect.)
As for NetWare, I did check the links at the time. It's worth noting that the number of links to NetWare is actually greater than the number of links to Novell NetWare. Therefore, the move has resulted in less redirects being used. This naming also appears to be reflected by the common name: Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL, Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL. Although I do often track back through the links and am familiar with the steps involved in moving a page, I was not aware that cleaning up "dangling links" was a policy. It would be appreciated if you could please direct me to that policy.

Thanks for pointing out that there actually was a separate Novell DOS article in May 2007, I was not aware of this. However, it was a single sentence only, and I would not even count that as a stub, to be honest. In either way, that's almost five years ago, so hardly relevant for any kind-of-a-"revert" today... Anyway, please open a discussion on the article's talk page, I'm interested to learn about your motivation why you think a separate article for Novell DOS would serve the subject a better purpose than being discussed within the existing DR-DOS article.

I saw that you added a new intro to the "Novell DOS" article. While it partially duplicates stuff already mentioned in the DR-DOS article please consider adding the remainder to the DR-DOS article. My revert was addressing the split, not any new contents added.

Regarding cleanup policy after moves, please have a look at an article's move page. The instructions there state "Be sure to check for double or broken redirects. You are responsible for making sure that links continue to point where they are supposed to go." Once you have performed a move, you will get a page with a more detailed list of instructions of what to check before considering a move complete, including fixing up dangling redirects, etc. (I don't know if this page can be viewed without actually moving an article, that's why I don't cite from it here.) --Matthiaspaul (talk) 20:18, 4 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You may have noticed over the past few days that the MOTD that you link to on your user page has simply displayed a red link. The Tea Leaf - Issue One - Recent news from the Teahouse

Hi! Welcome to the first edition of The Tea Leaf, the official newsletter of the Teahouse!

Metrics are out from week one. Week one showed that the need for Teahouse hosts to invite new editors to the Teahouse is urgent for this pilot period. It also showed that emailing new users invitations is a powerful tool, with new editors responding more to emails than to talk page templates. We also learned that the customized database reports created for the Teahouse have the highest return rate of participation by invitees. Check out the metrics here and see how you can help with inviting in our Invitation Guide.
A refreshed "Your hosts" page encourages experienced Wikipedians to learn about the Teahouse and participate. The Tea Leaf - Issue Two

Hi! Welcome to the second edition of The Tea Leaf, the official newsletter of the Teahouse!

Teahouse celebrates one month of being open! This first month has drawn a lot of community interest to the Teahouse. Hosts & community members have been working with the project team to improve the project in many ways including creating scripts to make inviting easier, exploring mediation processes for troubling guests, and best practices regarding mentoring for new editors who visit the Teahouse.

First month metrics report an average of 30 new editors visiting the Teahouse each week. Approximately 30 new editors participate in the Teahouse each week, by way of asking questions and making guest profiles. An average of six new questions and four new profiles are made each day. We'd love to hear your ideas about how we can spread the word about the Teahouse to more new editors.
Teahouse has many regulars. Like any great teahouse, our Teahouse has a 61% return rate of guests, who come back to ask additional questions and to also help answer others' questions. Return guests cite the speedy response rate of hosts and the friendly, easy to understand responses by the hosts and other participants as the main reasons for coming back for another cup o' tea!
Early metrics on retention. It's still too early to draw conclusions about the Teahouse's impact on new editor retention, but, early data shows that 38% of new editors who participate at the Teahouse are still actively editing Wikipedia 2-4 weeks later, this is compared with 7% from a control group of uninvited new editors who showed similar first day editing activity. Additional metrics can be found on the Teahouse metrics page.

Science lovers wanted!

Hi! I'm serving as the wikipedian-in-residence at the Smithsonian Institution Archives until June! One of my goals as resident, is to work with Wikipedians and staff to improve content on Wikipedia about people who have collections held in the Archives - most of these are scientists (from anthropologists to zoologists) who held roles within the Smithsonian and/or federal government.
