A tag has been placed on Sosui Ichikawa, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Hi CommanderWaterford (talk), I would like to contest the Speedy Deletion and posterior Deletion of this article by Seraphimblade (talk) on 09:02, 30 April 2021 Seraphimblade talk contribs deleted page Sosui Ichikawa (G11: Unambiguous advertising or promotion). Can you please elaborate on what are your basis to claim that there is "Unambiguous advertising or promotion"? The https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Sosui_Ichikawa was researched and references of his biography come from reliable sources, therefore, the article is appropriate and notable. Looking forward to hearing from you soon.TraditionalKarate (talk) 14:45, 30 April 2021 (UTC)
- Hello TraditionalKarate. Articles on Wikipedia are required to be strictly neutral in tone and content, and not promote anyone or anything, including by any "talking up". In this case, the article contained material such as:
Ichikawa Sensei
(we do not use honorifics; refer to an individual by last name only with no honorifics or titles),Ichikawa was highly regarded by other masters as one of the greatest practitioners of Goju-Ryu in Japan and a karate prodigy
(according to what reliable and independent source?),Ichikawa had two great passions.
(don't use flowery language like this; stick to facts), and the article continued on and on in that vein. However, now that I take another look, the article also contained a large quantity of material which violated copyright. It is not permissible to, for example, include the full text of a copyrighted memorandum, or the full text of the "Goroku" translation. Seraphimblade Talk to me 15:17, 30 April 2021 (UTC)
Hi Seraphimblade (Talk to me) and CommanderWaterford (talk),
To answer your points:
Ichikawa Sensei (we do not use honorifics; refer to an individual by the last name only with no honorifics or titles), after 32 years of Karate training, I can say that Sensei is not quite an honorific or a title, it merely means teacher. Actually, all Karate teachers are referred to as Sensei preceded by their last name generally. But I see the point, here and It can be easily changed to simply the name or last name.
Ichikawa was highly regarded by other masters as one of the greatest practitioners of Goju-Ryu in Japan and a karate prodigy (according to what reliable and independent source?) / A: According to Clifford, Chris (1993). Ichikawa: Goju Karate's 'Unknown Master'. Liverpool: Terry O'Neill, Fighting Arts International. pp. 25–27.
It is not permissible to, for example, include the full text of a copyrighted memorandum. That is not a copyrighted memorandum, its basically a press release for the public to read.
The full text of the "Goroku" translation, this is also not copyrighted material, this are his words put down to paper. If so, then, shouldn't the article (https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/The_Book_of_Five_Rings) be also deleted? Is there an specific way in which this need to be displayed?
Looking forward to hearing from you soon, and most kind regards.TraditionalKarate (talk) 16:10, 30 April 2021 (UTC)
- The "Book of Rings" material was apparently written in 1643, so it is in the public domain due to its age. Material is subject to copyright as soon as it is fixed into a "tangible form", such as being recorded in writing. You cannot include lengthy portions of copyrighted and nonfree material in an article, and both the memorandum and recorded quotes would be copyrighted. (It is also generally inappropriate to include such lengthy copies of sources in an article, as an encyclopedia article should be a summary rather than lengthy copies, but when they are copyrighted, it is a hard "no". These are, and you cannot use them that way.) Seraphimblade Talk to me 16:53, 30 April 2021 (UTC)
Hi Seraphimblade (Talk to me) and CommanderWaterford (talk),
When one is a true martial artist, these texts are of great value, but I suppose the article could do without them too, it would be incomplete, but at least is something. I will look into the text again and adjust as much as possible according to these recommendations.
In the meantime, I created a draft of another karate practitioner, (https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Draft:Shojiro_Jibiki) would you mind taking a look and giving recommendations on that one too. Also, How does the DRAFT: disappears from the article title? TraditionalKarate (talk) 17:03, 30 April 2021 (UTC)
- For your other draft, just at a glance, you will need to remove the Japanese words and characters (articles should be entirely in English; translate the Japanese if it is relevant), shrink down the massive picture and put it in the standard thumbnail format on one side or the other, source and tone down stuff like
Jibiki was one of the first to advocate tournament competitions for kids and youngsters. The Karate community balked at the idea of tournaments geared for kids so young, but Shojiro did not waiver from his idea, he knew that kids are the future of society and that the earlier they start on Karate-do training the further they would excel as human beings.
(just say, if there is a reliable and independent corroborating source, that he advocated youth events; don't include all the puffy stuff), remove the section entitled "International Federation of KENSHOKAI Gōjū-Ryu Karate-Do" as it is excessive detail and appears to contain quite a lot of original research, and remove all external links that currently appear in the article text. That's just at a glance, mind, but certainly at least those things need done. Seraphimblade Talk to me 17:12, 30 April 2021 (UTC) - Also should have mentioned before, unbold "Kenshokai" and put it in regular mixed case. As to your question about drafts, the "Draft:" indicates that it is in the draft namespace, and that will be removed once it is moved to mainspace. In its current form, it is nowhere near ready for that, however. Seraphimblade Talk to me 17:19, 30 April 2021 (UTC)
Hi Seraphimblade (Talk to me) ,
I do have a question about names in Japanese characters (Kanji), I see that for karate biographical articles most of them have them as reference. For example: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Ch%C5%8Djun_Miyagi https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/G%C5%8Dgen_Yamaguchi https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Sek%C5%8D_Higa https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Higaonna_Kanry%C5%8D
Do you think that they still need to be suppressed?TraditionalKarate (talk) 17:32, 30 April 2021 (UTC)
- That's not the biggest issue, really; that could always be addressed later. The main things are to ensure that the article is neutral in tone and content, and that the material presented in it is supported by reliable and independent references. Seraphimblade Talk to me 18:56, 30 April 2021 (UTC)
