Novelist navbox cat

Hi Tony. I'm wondering what you'd think of having Category:Novelist navigational boxes? I have some navboxes, like Template:Elizabeth Bowen that only list novels (and hence don't have a navbox cat), while my Template:Robert Burns only lists poetry and is in Category:Poet navigational boxes. Thanks for your time, and my compliments on the Yeats navbox and others. INeverCry 15:56, 1 April 2013 (UTC)

Curious

Why do county navboxes such as {{Colusa County, California}} need a state parameter? What use do you envision for it? —Stepheng3 (talk) 03:59, 6 April 2013 (UTC)

Tony, please note that all navboxes using {{US county navigation box}} use the collapse_state parameter to specify whether it is collapsed or expanded. The state parameter, which predates the implementation of the collapsible feature, specifies the US state where the county is located. Therefore, this edit is valid, whereas modifications like this one causes a conflict and thus was reverted by other users. Thanks. Zzyzx11 (talk) 07:53, 6 April 2013 (UTC)
I did in fact CC User:Frietjes.[1] However, although you may use someone's code, tool, script or gadget, you should not blindly apply them -- you ultimately take full responsibility for any action performed using these features, including any WP:3RR or what may perceived as vandalism or template breakage. I'm puzzled why you used collapse_state parameter on {{Zacatecas}}[2] and others using {{Mexico state navigation box}}, but failed on noticing it was the same with {{Colusa County, California}} and those using {{US county navigation box}}.
I'm also puzzled why changing a line like this from:
| state = California
to
| state = {{{state|California}}}
with "California" as the default value for the state parameter, would not have alerted you that something was wrong. Those two examples are a clear indication that you were most likely blindly applying her script. She should not be responsible for your (mis)use. Regards. Zzyzx11 (talk) 08:54, 6 April 2013 (UTC)
Tony, please stop making these edits until you understand when they are appropriate and when they aren't. Best regards, —Stepheng3 (talk) 14:53, 6 April 2013 (UTC)

Green roofs

Hello. I'm Gildas Boennec and i work for "Le Petit Quotidien", which is a french newspaper for kids (you can check out our website : http://www.playbacpresse.fr/). We are preparing an article about green roofs and we would like to publish your picture of Chicago City Hall Green Roof. Could we publish it for free ?

Waiting for your answer ! My mail : g.boennec@gmail.com — Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.151.56.169 (talk) 15:22, 7 April 2013 (UTC)

Hello Tony, forgive me for spending so much energy on a low-priority article for our project. Preferring to work things out 1-on-1 and bring along less experienced editors where possible, I have never done a WP:RFC or WP:DRN. I believe the content issues on this article are myriad but straight-forward, including POV, word choice, tone, quality of refs, and over-reliance on 1 source. Stepping back and reviewing the dialog at Talk:Democratic Party of Cook County and User_talk:Homeaccount, my feeling is that the fundamental problem is one of comprehension, more specifically, misunderstandings with respect to:

  1. fending off WP:MOS with appeals to RS style,
  2. individual vs. collective responsibility for WP:NPOV
  3. and lastly some WP:IDHT and WP:NPA behaviors.

I feel clarification of our policies and norms may be a prereq for collaboration. Might WP:RFC/U be the best tool here to initiate a level-setting discussion with a 3rd party? What is your advice? Thanks. Hugh (talk) 19:39, 7 April 2013 (UTC)

Re: DYK queue

Almost everyone wants their hooks to be placed in the lead (image) slot. This is because almost every hook receives most attention in this location. As a result your argument that your hook would receive more hits is just a reiteration of the reason every other nomination would also receive more attention if it is placed in the lead slot. As a result there is usually a glut of nominations with nominators wishing for their hook to receive preferential treatment. There is no way to satisfy all these requests. The simple reason your nomination was not placed in the highly desirable image slot is there were (and still are) and large selection of other nominations that are at least as deserving as your nomination and I chose to one of them instead of yours.

As for your insinuation that I did not spend enough time looking at nominations, please realize that the time spent editing does not necessarily relate to the amount of time spent looking at available nominations before a series of edits is begun. --Allen3 talk 22:55, 8 April 2013 (UTC)

Love's Labour's Lost template

Hey boss, quick question for you. An IP editor recently added this to the Love's Labour's Lost article: "Although there is no known source for the plot, the four main male characters are all loosely based on real historical figures; Navarre is based on Henry IV of France, Berowne on Charles de Gontaut, duc de Biron, Dumain on Charles, Duke of Mayenne and Longaville on Henri I d'Orléans, duc de Longueville." An IP editor (presumably the same person) also added a paragraph concerning the characters to each of the four historical figures' articles. To be honest, I didn't even know they had articles on here. Obviously, I knew Henry did, but not the other three. Anyhow, as it is generally not a very well known fact, even amongst some Shakespeareans, that the four main male characters are based on real people, I think it's a good idea to add the four of them to the template in the related section, but what I wanted to ask was should I add the tamplate to their articles. Having had a quick look through some of the characters listed in the two tetralogy templates, it seems not, as none (or very few) of them have the template on their articles, but I just wanted to double check with yourself first. Cheers. Bertaut (talk) 02:56, 9 April 2013 (UTC)

These franchise templates do not belong on historical figures pages. Historical figures should not be included on the template for mere likeness in general. Only if that actual figure was portrayed as a character.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 04:11, 9 April 2013 (UTC)
Well, obviously, you'd put them in the character section if the actual person was portrayed, but putting them in the related section is fine. And it's a little more than "mere likeness" - he specifically based the characters on them, even taking their names. Just as a question though. All these rules you keep on citing about templates. Where are they? Can you direct me to the page where they're outlined please so I can have a read through them, because I've had a look around and I can't find anything. Thanks. Bertaut (talk) 21:52, 9 April 2013 (UTC)
I am talking about something like {{The Last of the Mohicans}}. Only the fictional characters get the template on their pages. I don't even know where the rules are for templates. I have never looked at them. I have sort of just been working from feedback.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 23:46, 9 April 2013 (UTC)

Collapse templates

County navboxes should not be collapsed unless other navboxes are also present; it's going to take forever to clean up this mess. Do not restore it. Nyttend (talk) 13:13, 17 April 2013 (UTC)

Without modification, county navboxes stay open unless there are other navboxes on the page; see Smithville, Monroe County, Indiana for example. Nyttend (talk) 15:04, 17 April 2013 (UTC)
These county templates should not appear collapsed, plain and simple — they generally appear by themselves, and they know to collapse themselves if others are present. Don't hide behind a "we can't help it" situation. Nyttend (talk) 15:33, 17 April 2013 (UTC)
I apologize. I thought you meant "it's inevitable". I'll talk to her. Nyttend (talk) 16:00, 17 April 2013 (UTC)

You left me a message regarding the edit I made on 2011–12 Michigan Wolverines men's basketball team‎. To clear up, I meant to leave an explanation for my edit, but it must not have saved correctly.
