Administrators' newsletter – March 2021
News and updates for administrators from the past month (February 2021).
Interface administrator changes
- A request for comment is open that proposes a process for the community to revoke administrative permissions. This follows a 2019 RfC in favor of creating one such a policy.
- A request for comment is in progress to remove F7 (invalid fair-use claim) subcriterion a, which covers immediate deletion of non-free media with invalid fair-use tags.
- A request for comment seeks to grant page movers the
delete-redirect
userright, which allows moving a page over a single-revision redirect, regardless of that redirect's target. The full proposal is at Wikipedia:Page mover/delete-redirect. - A request for comment asks if sysops may
place the General sanctions/Coronavirus disease 2019 editnotice template on pages in scope that do not have page-specific sanctions
? - There is a discussion in progress concerning automatic protection of each day's featured article with Pending Changes protection.
- When blocking an IPv6 address with Twinkle, there is now a checkbox with the option to just block the /64 range. When doing so, you can still leave a block template on the initial, single IP address' talkpage.
- When protecting a page with Twinkle, you can now add a note if doing so was in response to a request at WP:RfPP, and even link to the specific revision.
- There have been a number of reported issues with Pending Changes. Most problems setting protection appear to have been resolved (phab:T273317) but other issues with autoaccepting edits persist (phab:T275322).
- By motion, the discretionary sanctions originally authorized under the GamerGate case are now authorized under a new Gender and sexuality case, with sanctions
authorized for all edits about, and all pages related to, any gender-related dispute or controversy and associated people.
Sanctions issued under GamerGate are now considered Gender and sexuality sanctions. - The Kurds and Kurdistan case was closed, authorizing standard discretionary sanctions for
the topics of Kurds and Kurdistan, broadly construed

Hi, Titodutta I have started a page about a well know Bengali actor. I have drafted the article per WP:GNG and WP:NACTOR norms. Since an earlier version was deleted and I cannot see what were the shortcoming so created from scratch. Please review if you can. Thank you. 2402:3A80:1132:ED7B:CED0:AE74:C862:B8A6 (talk) 02:42, 4 April 2021 (UTC)
- Add a "Career" section and write about the major works. That will improve the article. One minor change: all film titles will be in italics. --Titodutta (talk) 13:31, 4 April 2021 (UTC)
- Titodutta, I have changed all the film titles in italics. Also, added a small 'Career' section with a WP:RS. I request to review and help to move from draft because I find editors reluctant to review since they are not much aware with Bengali TV and film industry. Thank you 2402:3A80:6C6:E58C:2DCC:3025:8939:7101 (talk) 04:06, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
- I think the article is better now. Pinging User:Premeditated Chaos and User:Rosguill to see if they have any suggestion. --Titodutta (talk) 00:32, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Titodutta: I already had a discussion with Rosguill at User_talk:Rosguill#Draft:Ambarish_Bhattacharya and his/her only concern was
lack of information beyond a list of roles
which I think is resolved to a great extent thanks to your suggestions on addition of 'Career' section. I hope Rosguill is satisfied with the improvements. I will still add some few more WP:RS from Anandabazar Patrika, Dhaka Tribune and Times of India. I hope it is ready now to be moved from draft. Thank you. 2402:3A80:6F5:A190:380A:B8FA:3B0F:F6B8 (talk) 05:24, 6 April 2021 (UTC)- I have started an account and I will be contributing from this account only. Thank you. Hiding old versions of non-free files
Hi! I talked to acagastya about hiding or deleting old versions of non-free files and was told that you might know a bot that could do that. Vietnamese Wikipedia have about 5500 non-free files with old revisions. So far the files are checked and fixed one-by-one. But if there is a bot that can do it much easier then perhaps that would be an option. So if you can give me a tip or more info I would be happy. --MGA73 (talk) 11:14, 17 April 2021 (UTC)
- Most possibly you are talking about User:DeltaQuadBot that/who works on Category:Non-free files with orphaned versions more than 7 days old. Regards. --Titodutta (talk) 17:45, 18 April 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks a million! --MGA73 (talk) 17:47, 18 April 2021 (UTC)
