Block

User_talk:Chickensheadless should he just be blocked? See this. All he is doing is self promoting his youtube covers or whatever, its getting really annoying. Im asking you because you just deleted a page he created for himself (Lucass). - (CK)Lakeshade - talk2me - 23:07, 30 May 2011 (UTC)

Hi, (CK)Lakeshade. Looking at this user's contribs, I do see some problems. The total lack of talk page participation (including their own user talk) is particularly concerning. I don't know that we are at the blocking stage, though. I will keep an eye on the user and contact them if they stray from the guidelines. Thanks for your message and your help in watching over the articles. See ya 'round Tiderolls 23:57, 30 May 2011 (UTC)

User:Slottrainner is clear cut User:Brucejenner CTJF83 02:54, 4 June 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads up, Ctjf. I'm not an accomplished sock-spotter and appreciate those with that talent. If my tenure lasts a few more years I might gain the insight by osmosis :) Tiderolls 04:52, 4 June 2011 (UTC)
He is the only one I know anything about. In general, if I report a sock to AVI will they be blocked? Or do I have to waste time with SPI? CTJF83 04:55, 4 June 2011 (UTC)
Many variables involved. To my mind an SPI is necessary if an investigation is required...CU participation, long term abuse, etc. If it's an obvious situation then bringing it to the attention of most any admin will most likely sort things out quickly. AN/I is a possible venue to approach; but be prepared for the "SPI is thataway" responses. From what I've seen AI/V would not be the best choice unless the disruption is blatant and appears to be non-stop. If those criteria are met the block could be levied without ever mentioning socks *shrugs* I've probably blocked several dozen socks simply due to their inability to shut up. So, if that answer wasn't blurry enough let me know....I'm sure I can be more confusing if need be :) Tiderolls 05:18, 4 June 2011 (UTC)
LOL, so long answer short, take it to AVI, and let the admin decide where to go...got it! CTJF83 05:52, 4 June 2011 (UTC)

Zephoreous

The term Zephoreous is not a vandal joke, or crudely wrote page. It is to simply inform the masses that the use of this deragotry word should be looked upon, I know that some may have never heard the word, but, those who have should be aware of the history and disrespectful nature of this word. Please allow this article to be published. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lunchboxor (talkcontribs) 23:41, 5 June 2011 (UTC)

Cuddling

Hey there, I noticed that you recently reverted User:112.213.148.226 changes to the Cuddling redirect. I have made the same reversions and warned this user on his talk page but he has not responded and keeps making the same edits. I am about to hit my third reversion and I was wondering if you would watch this page in the case that it needs to be reverted again. I think that the user is acting in good faith but perhaps doesn't know to check his talk page and maybe hasn't seen the warnings. Thanks Noformation Talk 01:24, 6 June 2011 (UTC)

Hi, Noformation. Yes, it's instances like this that can get one in trouble. If the user is a)new, b)very young, c)not a native or accomplished English speaker or simply trolling, their persistence can lead other editors to broach the 3RR. I'll have a look at the article talk page to see if this is an isolated incident (I haven't looked to gauge the activity there). Anyway, it'd probably be best for you to either walk away or post to the article talk and hope that other editors are around. I'll post further if there are developments. Tiderolls 01:32, 6 June 2011 (UTC)

USA USA! Edits

Hey Tide Rolls, it looks like we have two vandals post posting the same USA USA! vandalism, or one person posting from two IP addies. User:216.212.243.84 and User:143.215.124.64. I would have posted an AIV but I saw you already reverted one of their edits so I thought I'd let you know. Thanks Noformation Talk 03:02, 8 June 2011 (UTC)

Oh and just FYI the same types of edits were being done yesterday though I'm a bit too lazy to check if it's the same addy :) Noformation Talk 03:03, 8 June 2011 (UTC)

A problem...

Hello, Tide rolls. I'll cut to the chase. Well, I first created an account and used it for vandalism. However, after I was blocked, I decided to change my ways. So, I created a new account (unaware of the sockpuppetry policy at the time). Well, I was traced back to my old account and was blocked, and now I can't create a new account. I know now that what I originally did was wrong and that I was wrong to sockpuppet, but I don't quite see it as fair that I am blocked from ever having an account on Wikipedia again because of some stupid mistakes I made a few years ago. Any help is appreciated, and I understand if you can't help me; I only hope you can. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.111.171.12 (talk) 05:02, 8 June 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for your polite message. Unfortunately, without knowing details, there's not much I can do. This is not a request for details; you have a right to keep past actions in the past. If unblock requests on your old accounts is out of the question, then the only way forward is e-mailing an appeal to unblock-en-l@lists.wikimedia.org
Based on what you've posted here that may not produce the result you desire, but at this stage that's the only option I see. This page is watched by others and it's possible that you may receive other suggestions here. Tiderolls 11:58, 8 June 2011 (UTC)

He has the honor of knowing what happens when you get a few inches too close to Stalin. :P --The Σ talkcontribs 00:34, 19 June 2011 (UTC)
And it just irks me that most people think of Communism as Stalinism and cruelly forced equality... I classify myself as a Trotskyistic Marxist Leninist (I know, terrible name) with my own included ideas. Communism is where you work and get what you worked for, not like capitalism where you work for more than you get, and someone accumulates wealth by doing practically nothing. In the rare event of you being curious, most of my ideas were expressed here and here. I conversed with two brilliant minds. --The Σ talkcontribs 07:53, 19 June 2011 (UTC)

  • Re-reading my post I think I need to clarify a point. I wasn't categorizing your post as platform-like. If I continued the thread, however, it might be construed as talk page misuse. That's all. Tiderolls 11:29, 19 June 2011 (UTC)

strange timestamp

Hi Tide rolls,

You recently blocked 98.17.53.99, but your timestamp says May 18, not June 18, when you placed the block. It might not be blocking as intended. Don't know how exactly this works, but thought it might interest you. All the best, 78.26 (talk) 02:43, 21 June 2011 (UTC) (revised 2:45)

Hi, 78.26. I agree that is strange. It may not be important but I've posted a message to the Huggle Feeback page so that it may be reviewed. Thanks for your vigilance. See ya 'round Tiderolls 09:34, 21 June 2011 (UTC)

The Human Centipede (First Sequence) is currently a featured article candidate

Hi there, thanks for all the helpful edits you have contributed to The Human Centipede article, I thought I'd let you know that the article is currently a featured article candidate!

At the moment I'm trying my best to make positive changes to the article based upon the comments and suggestions on the article review, but any help with this would really be appreciated. The featured article review is here and if you have any spare time it would be really cool if you could have a look at the comments and help make sure the article is meeting the standards that are asked of a featured article. Plus if there's anything you think you can do to help improve the article, or anything important that it's missing, please do go ahead and make the changes!

Thanks for all your help with the article. cya Coolug (talk) 19:43, 24 June 2011 (UTC)

Kate Bornstein

I attempted to edit Kate Bornstein's page, but my changes were reverted. The only changes I made were in the pronouns that refer to hir. Hir preferred pronouns, as stated in My Gender Workbook, hir bio page on hir website (located here: http://katebornstein.typepad.com/about.html ), and numerous interviews, are "ze" and "hir," not "she" and "her". Out of respect to hir gender identity, I feel the pronoun changes should be retained. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.26.223.197 (talk) 03:34, 25 June 2011 (UTC)

Well this is an encyclopedia. --The Σ talkcontribs 03:36, 25 June 2011 (UTC)
I fail to see how your statement is relevant. "Ze" and "hir" are also included on the "Gender-neutral pronouns" page: http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Gender_neutral_pronouns
  • To expand on Σ's comment a bit; this project uses the Wikipedia:Manual of style and its various sub-pages as guidelines for editing. If you should have concerns with the way things are done I suggest that you engage other editors on the discussion pages of the manual of style. To unilaterally inject your preference(s) without discussion will only impede your effectiveness here. Regards Tiderolls 03:42, 25 June 2011 (UTC)
I'm not "injecting [my] preference(s)," but using the preferred pronouns of the person hirself (linked to above). From the Manual of Style's "Grammar" section, "Identity" sub-section: "Any person whose gender might be questioned should be referred to using the gendered nouns, pronouns, and possessive adjectives that reflect that person's latest expressed gender self-identification. This applies when referring to any phase of that person's life." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.26.223.197 (talk) 03:49, 25 June 2011 (UTC)
Can you point me to the discussion you have taken part in that resulted in the pronoun choice you added to the article? Tiderolls 03:52, 25 June 2011 (UTC)
Can you inform me where it is stated that a discussion must take place prior to edits? --173.26.223.197 (talk) 04:14, 25 June 2011 (UTC)
Also I think "Kate" is a girl's name, so there is no question on whether Kate's "gender might be question". --The Σ talkcontribs 04:06, 25 June 2011 (UTC)
Did you not see the link that was posted? See: http://katebornstein.typepad.com/about.html

I'll quote it for you: "Kate was born outside of Fargo, North Dakota in a log cabin ze helped hir parents build. Hir father was a Lutheran minister, and hir mother was Miss Betty Crocker, 1939. Kate has lived in the queer ghettos of Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Seattle. Ze currently lives with hir partner--sex pioneer, writer and performance artist Barbara Carrellas--in New York City, along with their pug, three cats, and turtle." (Emphasis mine.) I've also contacted Kate hirself about this issue. --173.26.223.197 (talk) 04:14, 25 June 2011 (UTC)

At the risk of redundancy; this page is not the venue for the discussion you appear to desire. 04:33, 25 June 2011 (UTC)
Ok, I will move the discussion at hand to Kate Bornstein's page. However, I will be changing the article to reflect Kate's preferred pronouns as this is not an opinion or my "view" - its simply fact stated by Kate hirself. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.26.223.197 (talk) 04:46, 25 June 2011 (UTC)

YouCanRun... Page

Hi Joe. I saw that you are having me investigated for sockpuppeting. I want to let you know that is not the case. There has been a lot of recent publicity on YCRBYCHI, and maybe people are looking into who they are??? Please understand that while I am not trying to promote YCRBYCHI on their page, I do see a whole different side of them in my research on this very interesting organization. Please understand that I am not trying to be difficult. I feel like anything I do on the page after hours of research gets shot down, removed, reverted, etc. I don't understand why that is? Thanks for listening. Teardrop22 (talk)! —Preceding undated comment added 04:31, 29 June 2011 (UTC).

National Creamsicle Day

I am not sure why my contribution has been reverted. It is stated on popsicle's wikipedia page that August 14 has been declared as national creamsicle day in the US.

"In the United States, August 14 has been named as National Creamsicle Day.[4][5]"

Both these sites are referenced after the quote:

Check something out for me?

Hi Tide Rolls,

Would you mind checking out this diff and determining if those links are allowed per WP:ELNO? I have previously reverted and warned, and attempted to engage in dialog with the user about a different link they tried to add, but rather than respond they added those links instead. I do not want to overstep my bounds here because I am not 100%. Thanks! Noformation Talk 03:25, 3 July 2011 (UTC)

The user added in the link I originally contested here after I left you a message but now claims it is the subject's website. Noformation Talk 03:30, 3 July 2011 (UTC)
It seems to be a link to a link to an article/essay written by the subject. It doesn't appear to be a violation of ELNO so much as a misplaced reference that the subject wrote the paper. In my opinion, not a very good reference but, hey...The IP may be responding to the "BLP with no refs" tag. I hope they learn the ropes before they get discouraged. • Thanks for the details, Joe. I had looked at the editing history but had not looked at the edits in particular as I had not edited the article. @Cannothelplaughing; for whatever reason you have seen fit to bring this matter to my talk page. Before that edit you have not seen the necessity to post to any talk page. That is not how things are done here. If your edits are reverted, you make a case on a talk page; be it article talk (recommended) or user talk (not as good because usually fewer eyes will see it). I have still not looked at the details of the edits so that I may remain uninvolved. I suggest you take the time to read WP:Identifying reliable sources, WP:Notability, WP:Citing sources, WP:Consensus and WP:BRD. If any of this message is unclear or ambiguous, please specify what points require elaboration. Hopefully, your participation on the article's talk page will be timely and substantive.
