Heads up: no internet access until June 19th
Hi everyone,
Just a heads up that I will be venturing into the Great and Mysterious Land of No Internet Service™ for the next three weeks or so as part of my summer travels. If you need to reach me... you really won't be able to. Hopefully nothing too major will explode while I'm away; if it's quite urgent send me an email and I'll see those earlier on the 19th than posts on-wiki.
Thanks!

Image captioning
Hi.
Any chance of writing an extension to Theo's Little Bot which does a caption pulling operation?
I've found that in many many instances, 'missing' descriptions for images can be obtained by reviewing the cpations where it's used. Vada has a script for generating these from a list.
I wuould like to suggest that a bot goes through free images (especially those tagged for Commons) checking for a blank Description= field , and if it finds one, performing a caption pull similar to that provided by the tool in VADA.
This wouldn't be a complete solution to the problem of missing descriptions, but would greatly reduce the amount of trival effort needed by Image patrollers.
(In time I was also going to suggest a tweak in Mediawiki itself which meant the captions were explicity displayed on the File Description pages.)

New huggle 3.1 is going to be released soon
Hi Theopolisme, we are to release a new major version of huggle, but we did receive almost no feedback from our beta testing team, which you are a part of (see https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Huggle/Members). It would be of a great help if you could download it (if you have windows, all you need to do is getting http://tools.wmflabs.org/huggle/files/huggle3.1.0beta.exe and putting it to a folder where you have installed huggle) and test it. You can always get a help with making it @ #huggle connect!
Major changes:
- Multisite support - you can now log in to unlimited number of wikis in 1 huggle session and get a huge queue of all edits made to these wikis. This is good for smaller projects which gets overlooked often.
- Ranged diffs - you can select multiple revisions and get a huge diff that display all changes done to them.
- Fixes of most of bug reports we had so far
In case you found a bug, please report it to bugzilla: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/buglist.cgi?product=Huggle&list_id=147663 thank you! Petrb (talk) 10:15, 30 July 2014 (UTC)
Questions about your bot: Rotten Tomatoes task
Hi Theo. I have a question about your Little Bot. How often does it run to populate more up to date info for the Rotten Tomatoes score templates? I personally created a subpage for a film, here in hopes of starting it off (don't know if that should have been done or not), and the scores have changed for the film since then. Just wondering what the frequency it comes by is. Thanks. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 16:17, 31 July 2014 (UTC)
- @Technical 13: I saw you edit the heading (thanks), so you may know part of my question. By creating the subpage by myself for the film I wanted, was that an error? Should I have waited for the bot? Thought you might know, as you have helped with the template before. Thanks. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 02:06, 1 August 2014 (UTC)

Discussion about AFC templates and workflow
I remember, in early stages of your AFC rewrite, I tried to convey some thoughts on semi-automation, more comprehensive reviews, etc to you; you had mentioned that such ideas need a redesign of templates first. I'm asking others to consider doing it, now, in here. Please have a look. --Gryllida (talk) 04:40, 27 August 2014 (UTC)
- IMO changing anything at this stage to AfC and/or its scripts will be simply a palliative to what has proven to be a largely dysfunctional system. Something entirely new is needed but rather than disband AfC altogether, or attempt to rewrite its existing scripts, there will shortly be a proposal to use a nice little bit of ready made software that could end all these issues once and for all.--Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 09:56, 28 August 2014 (UTC)

What have I missed?
For the past few months I've been quite busy with real life -- it's surprising how much time that stuff takes up! ;) I'm starting to have more free time, though, and will probably gradually be able to ease into a more active on-wiki role. Technical 13 et al., have I missed anything of note? The usefulness of one's watchlist decreases exponentially with time... :) Happy to be back (in some capacity, at least)! Many happy returns of the day, Theopolisme (talk) 00:19, 2 October 2014 (UTC)
- We missed you! The TAFI portions of your bot could use some servicing. Come visit us over at WP:TAFI when you have some time. --NickPenguin(contribs) 03:40, 2 October 2014 (UTC)
- @NickPenguin: I'd be happy to help over the weekend. Can you point me to some threads/tl;drs of what needs work? RIght now I'm still suffering from a bit of information overload. Theopolisme (talk) 22:30, 2 October 2014 (UTC)
Hey Theo. Welcome back. There seems to be an issue with your Little Bot Rotten Tomatoes task. It appears to no longer be populating updates and/or new template calls. Please ping me for more detail, but it would be most helpful if you could investigate. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 20:35, 3 October 2014 (UTC)
