{{helpme}} I am currently trying to track down a version of an article from a long time ago. I know that a user edited a certain article in a timespan of about a year, and I know exactly what the edit they made was. Is there a quicker way of finding the edit version rather than searching through the entire history of that article looking for it? Thanks, TheMoridian 09:01, 8 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As far as I'm aware, there is no way to search the history of an article. However, what is the article in question, and what are you specifically looking for? Any hints on that timespan? Huntster (t@c) 09:22, 8 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh my. That encompasses somewhere around 2,500 edits, which at the rate my computer loads pages, would take around eight to ten hours to manually check (yeah, best speed is four or five pages a minute, tops). There's just no way I can go through that many. Best I can recommend is either narrow the timeframe a bit, or start at this diff and work your way forward. Huntster (t@c) 02:40, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on User:Themoridian/Warrington Canoe Club, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to have no meaningful content or history, and the text is unsalvageably incoherent. If the page you created was a test, please use the sandbox for any other experiments you would like to do. Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you have any questions about this.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[ Talk:User:Themoridian/Warrington Canoe Club|the talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Pavlen (talk) 07:56, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No one has offered, and I am very okay with that. Thank you very much for the offer. I'm looking forward to getting more involved in, and knowledgeable about, the Wikipedia community. Sean ODuibher (talk) 00:33, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Adoptee-ness

[edit]

Thanks very much for accepting. However new you may be, you are still far more experienced then me, so it's greatly appreciated.

  1. I've joined WP:LOCE, as you may be able to tell, as copyediting is something I have previous experience in. I'm not sure what else I should join, but I guess I'll just pick some. How many would you suggest involving myself with?
  2. What exactly do you mean by coding, in this context?
  3. My user page is pretty low tech right now. Is this what you were thinking? I guess this probably goes along the lines of coding: the more I know the better my page will be.

At any rate, thanks again. I do very much appreciate having some back up here. Hopefully I wont screw up too much before figuring things out. Sean ODuibher (talk) 14:23, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sure. I'm not sure exactly what the assignments would be, but sure. I'd be glad to have them. Sean_ODuibher (talk) 14:21, 1 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
How does this look? Sean_ODuibher (talk) 14:44, 1 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah I did see that, but I've been out of town for a while, and mostly away from computers, so I haven't really had a chance to work on any stuff. I think I might try, as you say, tackling a new article. I'll let you know what one I pick. Also, as far as "jazzing up my page" goes, do you have any code resources that could help me out? Because frankly, I haven't the least idea how to begin making borders and the like. Thanks. Sean_ODuibher (talk) 19:57, 8 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Adoption/ Help

[edit]

Hi Matt! I was doing some browsing through wikipedia, and I came across your userspace. I couldn’t help but notice that you, like me, invest lots of time in helping other users (an honourable cause!). I also noticed that you have only been properly active on wikipedia for just over 1 month, which makes you a relatively new user (no offence intended) – and yet you have already adopted 5 new users. Most new users, except the returning ones like me, are a huge drain on time and effort. Therefore, I’d like to offer my assistance – I will help you with your adoptees in any way that I can. Don’t get me wrong, you are doing an admirable job by yourself – I only aim to lessen your load!
Also, I have a second item to discuss. I haven’t been on wikipedia for some time now, so I have forgotten many of the elements of code used. More specifically, the userbox code. If you could help me with that, it would be great! Thanks Uhtred of Bebbanburg 14:08, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again! OK, I’ve set it up on our userspaces. Now I know why you are adopting so many users – but whatever your motives, you’re still doing a good job, so I’ll back you up.

Sword Song: I wasn’t so sure about it – the first 3 books had a definite sense of progression, but Sword Song pretty much ended where it started, with very few overall developments in the plot. To me, it seems Cornwell is aiming for a set of 6 books – but he seems to be dragging his feet a little in Sword Song, so I get the impression that there will be some major developments regarding the formation of England in the fifth book. Either that, or we can be expecting a set of 9 books! Also, have you noticed Cornwell’s annoying habit of redescribing everything in detail as we meet it again? It’s reminiscent of JK Rowling in the Harry Potter books.
Oh, and thank you for the userbox code – I was searching everywhere for that! Uhtred of Bebbanburg 08:23, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Matt! I think I may be able to help you with your adoption quest – I have a user experienced through wikia sites and anon wikipedia editing, who wants to be adopted. I told him I wasn’t interested, but I thought you might be? To use your words, it would help boost your adoption numbers – and a semi-experienced user is an easy adoptee! Let me know if you take him! Uhtred of Bebbanburg 09:11, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Plea for mentor

[edit]

Hello! I gratefully accept your offer to be my mentor, thank you so much!! Lol could you set this up for me? Once again, thank you! x Andromache 09:06, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, that sounds much nicer than learning hundreds of policies! Lol i am really grateful for all of your help, and hopefully you won’t need to bail me out of any sticky situations! Lol your assistance is greatly sppreciated x Andromache 09:23, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Could you adopt me?

[edit]

Hi. Thank you for adopted me. I am already quite familiar with policies and regulations etc, and I have begun collecting for my userpages, what I really need help with is integrating into Wikipedia. How do I do this? Thanks for your help – Helikaon 09:26, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Adminship

[edit]

Hello! I’m honoured that you ask my opinion in these matters, thank you! I think you’re well suited to the role, far more so than I was. Some important skills are common sense, diplomacy, and a clean record – you have these. The problems that I foresee you finding are a lack of experience, and a lack of support. Without causing offence, you are still relatively new on wikipedia, and you haven’t done any serious mainspace editing (articles and etc) – this may turn against you. Also, while you don’t have any grudges held against you which normally provoke ‘strong oppose’, you again aren’t regularly seen in the mainspace editing articles or contributing to wikiprojects – so you won’t have many users in favour either (which is worse than having lots of opposes). If the decision were to me, I would say you were the right material and you should be given the chance; but they seldom take a second glance unless you have strong support, so I think you should start building your support base and mounting your contributions (for a quick fix, spelling and grammar are always easy contributions – and if you make your kayaking club articles, you should have plenty to use). Another thing, have a look at the regular questions that they ask – if you want to catch attention you need smart answers that make a quick impression (positive, obviously). In summary, I think you would be great; but you lack some of the prerequisites that distinguish those taken seriously from those not. If you can build on your weak points, you should be able to succeed – and I would be happy to support you! Uhtred of Bebbanburg 08:36, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

HELPME

[edit]

I'm having a bit of trouble on my userpage. Basically, inside the blue box I have 2 userbox-tables with a show/hide option. When I expand both tables, the titles for the tables go funny - the 'More userboxes' title displays itself over the top of the 'Useboxes' userboxes. How do I make it just put the title above each table?

Thanks in advance, TheMoridian 11:48, 25 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Taking a look, brb. Prince of Canada t | c 11:54, 25 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like {{boxboxtop}} is causing the issue, in conjunction with the navframe stuff. I'd suggest using the {{navbox}} template; it's simpler than fussing with divs. Prince of Canada t | c 11:56, 25 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi.. I see the issue happening when both are open. Give me a few minutes and I'll see if I can come up with a fix for you. Prince of Canada t | c 12:13, 25 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, not working so far. I'll ponder and come back later. Prince of Canada t | c 12:19, 25 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:09, 7 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
