Thanks!

Thanks for the encouragement on my talk page! I have just created a user page. Oddly enough, when I created the page I got a warning that I was re-creating a deleted page -- someone had vandalized my user page before I even made one! -- KathrynLybarger (talk) 04:30, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

Article 黎英泰

Were you able to understand the subject of the article enough to tag with CSD-A7, or is that just the one you picked. I don't understand word *one* of Japanese, so I don't know what that article was talking about. Just curious. DJBullfish 16:19, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

I ran it through Babelfish in Japanese and both Chinese settings. Turns out it was *Chinese*, and after reading it over and fixing the context in my head: A7 was probably the right call, though A1 (Little or no context) could have worked too. DJBullfish 16:32, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

Signing Edits

A bit of a seperate issue than the above, so I gave it it's own heading: I noticed you were trying to manually sign your comment to my talk page. If you type out 4 tildes (~) at the end of your comment, Wikipedia will automatically sign the comment for you. Just type ~~~~ at the end! DJBullfish 16:35, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

Locate me

Hello. I noticed you added the {{Locate me}} template to some articles directly. Please place them on article talk pages only and not in the articles themselves, as they are minor maintenance requests for editors only and don't need to be shown to all readers. The issue was discussed at Template talk:Locate me. Thanks. --Para (talk) 04:33, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

Shakdvip

Hi, I am an admin who was reviewing the articles in speedy deletion candidates. You tagged this article as patent nonsense. Although it is poorly formatting, I can tell that it is talking about feature of Hinduism. Patent nonsense is limited to those things that make no sense whatsoever, and should not be used for poorly written or poorly formatted articles, or for hoaxes. I have therefore declined the speedy. Dsmdgold (talk) 16:01, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

Did you read the article? It contained attacks directed at the names of three girls, probably people that the author doesn't like. Even if it weren't speedied, Wiktionary probably wouldn't want it because it's a neoglism. Redfarmer (talk) 16:42, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

Image posting

Hello, I am new and I cannot get my image to post - I uploaded the image, I have the rights to use it - but it is not showing up.

The tag I used is (I excluded the brackets so that you can see the tag) - Image:GonzGnomen1.JPG|right|200px|thumb|Frank Gonzales's Gnomen 1995, installed at Stone Quarry Hill Art Park

But nothing shows up but the frame and the caption and hte words Image:GonzGnomen1.jpg.

Ps - I know my article still needs some work, I am working on it as fast as I can!

Thank you!

Stubs

Hello, I kindly request that you stop creating one-line stubs about villages. I cite Darby Green as just one of the very worst. Although some claim that all places are notable, an article needs more than just one short sentence saying that a place exists. An article requires content, references, and links. These have none of those. If you really want to help Wikipedia's coverage on UK places, something more useful than hundreds of stubs is articles that actually have content, of better yet, a list such as List of villages in Hampshire. We are looking for quality articles, not an infinite quantity of them. (You can respond here if you want.) Thanks, Reywas92Talk 17:07, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

But there already is always an opportunity to expand articles, even before they are created. My opinion is that a list can be made about the places now, but when enough information becomes availiable to create a good-sized article, I stronglt encourage it, but only when an article of sufficient length can be written. Cheers, Reywas92Talk 17:48, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for understanding. I think a list is even easier because you don't have to write "is a village in XYZ" tons of times. :) Reywas92Talk 17:58, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

Bedfordshire

While tidying up the List of places in Bedfordshire (and it did need tidying up), you have included various villages that are actually in Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire. I have removed the ones that I am aware of. I guess you are working from a list of postal localities. The confusion arises because when the Post Office included counties in postal addresses they used the county of the post town even if the locality was in an adjoining county. For example, the official address of Edlesborough was "Edlesborough, DUNSTABLE, Beds" even though the village has always been in Buckingshire. JonH (talk) 17:38, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

Cheshire

Many thanks for the work you are doing with respect to Cheshire. Some may prefer to have a notice explaining what you are doing on the Cheshire WikiProject's talk page, as that would immediately reassure people that you are not simply dispensing with the removed information. Have you thought that the article Places of interest in Cheshire might fall victim to an AfD if it does not have a fair amount of text in it, rather than a simple list? The reason is that I know that some editors nominate articles for deletion on the grounds that Wikipedia is not a list of information. If you want to expand the list of places in Cheshire, which would greatly help us on the Cheshire WikiProject, then you may like to look at some of the tables I have tried to get people to fill in on either the project pages or on my own talk page, where I have tried to cross-classify the settlements by the civil parishes they are part of. If you could add to these during you work, I am sure we would all be greatly thankful to you for your work. Best wishes  DDStretch  (talk) 18:50, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

Re:Wonston Redirection, Why

Being only one sentence long, there is no unique information on Wonston. The list on City of Winchester already tells someone that it is "a village in the City of Winchester district of Hampshire, England." If the article is expanded to include useful information such as the population, area, a map, etc, then I'd have no problem with it. I'm sure that information could be found somewhere, but the repetition is at this point unnecessary. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Reywas92 (talkcontribs) 22:05, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

The Spanish American War

I'm doing a paper on the Spanish American War, & was wondering if any one had any valuable information I could use. I did look at the article that Wikipedia provides and will be using that but any other info that I could get would be very helpful. Thanks.

Re:User Welcoming

No, don't worry about it. As long as the users get welcomed then it's all good. I was using the user script Friendly to welcome the users so I didn't really notice you were welcoming them before me for a couple of minutes. Anyway, at least they're welcomed now. Status Changer

Hi there! What exactly are you having problems with? I see you've created these three pages. Could you perhaps detail the steps you have already taken and what is (or isn't) happening? Thanks! --omtay38 17:05, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

Longitude

I noticed in Cheriton, Hampshire that the coordinates lead to maps showing somewhere in the English Channel! Investigating, it looks at if -xxx.xx W is equivalent to an easterly longitude. I've changed this (I hope correctly) and also changed Kingston, Portsmouth but it looks as if you did a lot of these, more than I can look at manually. Thincat (talk) 13:39, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

Yes, I'm no expert here. But with "my" version, [1], clicking the coordinates leads to (using Google Maps) an arrow in the "right" place whereas with "your" version [2], the arrow is in the sea! Now, nothing to do with anything: I see I'm old enough to be your grandfather so you have the advantage over me (I can't edit so quick)! It's great to have so many shapes, sizes, nationalities and ages of folks all contributing. Thincat (talk) 16:48, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

Adoption

Hi,

I am a first year PhD student in Information Science in school of Informatics at City University, London.

I've just created an account and would like to be adopted by an experienced user.

My research is mainly focused on visualisation of online social network and specifically I am interested in uncovering the effects of geographical data (physical locations in real world) on human online interactions and behaviour.

Since the wikipdeians community is huge and there are lots of daily interactions, the wikipedians networks sound a valuable dataset. I contacted the wikimedia community and we are in the process of obtaining some data from their team.

At the moment I am intending to familiarise myself to wiki features and practice downloading data dumps into mySQL databases. In doing so I need comments and advice from an experienced user.

Highly appreciate it if let me know you could adopt me.

Thanks Naz —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nazks (talkcontribs) 12:07, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the welcome!

Thanks for the welcome Thedewster....I love Wikipedia and have always marvelled at how it works, but have been afraid to make any edits or comments thus far. I'm down to learn though:-)

Let's start with my first question: Is the talk page the best way to communicate with you/other users? Do I just type a message and save it? (and did I sign it correctly?) How do I create my own personal page?
