Welcome and MOS
[edit]Hi, nice to see someone participating who knows the territory better than I do. However, as hinted in my Help:Edit summary, you should also study Wikipedia style standards, including WP:Headings, and the use of tools including Help:Page history. Welcome to Bronx
[edit]Oh, a couple other things you may want to look at. You could include yourself in Category:Wikipedians in New York City so as to help get in touch with others having similar interests. And you might want to look at the controversy on how to name Bronx in that article's Discussion Page. Jim.henderson (talk) 17:41, 17 September 2010 (UTC)
Add Publishers info please
[edit]to the Bronx books you've nicely added, such as New YorK: Arcadia Publishing, 2002. Thx.Bellagio99 (talk) 03:04, 26 January 2011 (UTC)
Replaceable fair use File:BronxMap_1868.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:BronxMap_1868.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the media description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Melesse (talk) 05:35, 20 August 2011 (UTC)

old maps and copyright
[edit]Hi. You're probably thinking: "if only I could get yet another bit of obscure technical information about that image". Well here's my two cents. You should consult with people with extensive experience with image copyrights on Wikipedia because the image you uploaded could very well be in the public domain. The original 19th century map is of course in the public domain but if the current image is a simple reproduction, it may very well fall under the Bridgeman Art Library v. Corel Corp. precedent. Cheers, Pichpich (talk) 21:37, 20 August 2011 (UTC)
- I guess my advice is that you should talk to the right people. :-) I'm most definitely not sufficiently competent and I'm not sure where to direct you to, but I do know this. As it stands, the image will be deleted more or less automatically because you declared it as non-free when it was uploaded. If that info is correct and the image is under copyright, then I'm guessing there's little you can do given the very tight constraints on using non-free images on Wikipedia. But my contention (and yours I think) is that the image is in fact free of copyright. One way to check this is to get enough competent people to look at it but (given the current tagging of the image) this won't happen unless you make it happen. If all else fails, I'll try to send the image through Wikipedia:Possibly unfree files where all the copyright aficionados hang out. Best, Pichpich (talk) 05:08, 21 August 2011 (UTC)
Possibly unfree File:BronxMap 1868.jpg
[edit]A file that you uploaded or altered, File:BronxMap 1868.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree files because its copyright status is unclear or disputed. If the file's copyright status cannot be verified, it may be deleted. You may find more information on the file description page. You are welcome to add comments to its entry at the discussion if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. Pichpich (talk) 23:12, 22 August 2011 (UTC)
- The above is the automatic notification. As promised above, I rescued the image temporarily so that competent people can determine if the image is copyright-free. It would be helpful for you to comment succinctly in that debate just to clear up where the image is taken from, how you got it and so on. Cheers, Pichpich (talk) 23:16, 22 August 2011 (UTC)
File:CPJ Americanart.si.edu.jpg missing description details
[edit]is missing a description and/or other details on its image description page. If possible, please add this information. This will help other editors make better use of the image, and it will be more informative to readers.
If the information is not provided, the image may eventually be proposed for deletion, a situation which is not desirable, and which can easily be avoided.
If you have any questions, please see Help:Image page. Thank you. Theo's Little Bot (error?) 10:24, 14 April 2013 (UTC)License tagging for File:Van Nest family plot Woodlawn 702 2012.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Van Nest family plot Woodlawn 702 2012.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.
To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 22:05, 22 July 2013 (UTC)
File source problem with File:Van Nest family plot Woodlawn 702 2012.jpg
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:Van Nest family plot Woodlawn 702 2012.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.
If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.
Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 17:46, 26 July 2013 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification for December 29
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Westchester Square, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Castle Hill (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Problems with upload of File:St.Barnabas High School Walkway.JPG
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:St.Barnabas High School Walkway.JPG. You don't seem to have said where the image came from, who created it, or what the copyright status is. We require this information to verify that the image is legally usable on Wikipedia, and because most image licenses require giving credit to the image's creator.

Orphaned non-free image File:St Barnabas High School Logo.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:St Barnabas High School Logo.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Majora (talk) 05:01, 5 March 2018 (UTC)
Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:19, 12 September 2018 (UTC)

[edit]A question
[edit]Hi TheBronxNYC. Nice to meet someone from the neighborhood. While Regis Philbin's page states, like you have, he's from the Van Nest area, should this link be removed from his page? https://forgotten-ny.com/2000/03/who-wants-to-be-on-a-street-sign-you-never-know-who-youll-meet-up-with-deep-in-the-heart-of-the-bronx/ I never really knew if his page should have said Morris Park or was the link way off. It's like splitting hairs with these neighborhoods anyway. I live two minutes from Cruger Ave. near Bronxdale Ave - Pelham Pkwy etc. Maybe you could shed some light where his house actually was. If not, no big deal. Not used to seeing familiar places here. Thanks in advance. Bringingthewood (talk) 05:11, 6 May 2024 (UTC)
- HA, I just saw the address is 1990 Cruger. I'm in the MP area and not sure why Morris Park would get the credit for the street sign on his Wikipedia page. Really thin hairs, lol. Bringingthewood (talk) 05:15, 6 May 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, they tore down his house about a more than a decade ago, sadly. TheBronxNYC (talk) 04:33, 8 May 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for your messages and the house update, TheBronxNYC. It was nice meeting you also. I might have passed you on the street today ... stranger things have happened, lol.
