Hello SeabrookCommLLC. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being employed (or being compensated in any way) by a person, group, company or organization to promote their interests. Paid advocacy on Wikipedia must be disclosed even if you have not specifically been asked to edit Wikipedia. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:SeabrookCommLLC. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=SeabrookCommLLC|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. ⇌ Jake Wartenberg 16:24, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jake, I'm trying to post the mandatory disclosure to my user page (that I just created), but I'm having trouble. Is there someone who can help talk me through this? As an employee or Rutgers School of Communication and Information, I'm being paid by the school to help manage two wikipedia pages--one for the current interim dean (what I was attempting to edit) and one for the SC&I general page. Please advise. Thank you! Lorraine Seabrook SeabrookCommLLC (talk) 17:14, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia articles are not able to be "managed" like a Facebook or Yelp profile. The best course of action is to propose edits on the article talk page. These proposed edits will need to be supported with reliable sources. As a professional, you will be held to a higher standard and are expected to be familiar with our policies. As you can see below, accounts cannot represent an organization, so as a first step you will need to pick a new username. Feel free to let me know what you would like your new username to be, and I will help you proceed. ⇌ Jake Wartenberg 17:45, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I really appreciate your help, Jake! I put in for a new user name: Blue Heron
I also disclosed that I'm being paid. Is this enough?
As for helping the dean edit her page, when you say that I can suggest prposed edits through the article talk page, can I upload a new, updated document for what she'd like her page to include?
Thanks again! Lorraine SeabrookCommLLC (talk) 17:47, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have formulated an unblock request for you below. It would be good if you replaced the reason with your own. It is very important that you read WP:COI in it's entirety. You will not be able to replace the article with a preferred version. If everyone could simply write their own article, Wikipedia would not have much value as an encyclopedia. Instead, you will need to propose small, incremental changes. You will also need to be very patient while these proposed changes are being reviewed. ⇌ Jake Wartenberg 18:00, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Jake. I read the COI and have another question for you. While I'm happy to propose small, incremental changes to the dean's page at her request, would it be better for her to create her own account and make the changes to the page herself since she is the one guiding every change?
And as far as updating the Rutgers School of Communication and Information's school wikipedia page, what would you recommend as the best course of action? Is that something I should take on and propose small changes to that page one section at a time or is there a better way for the school to update its page?
Thank you! Lorraine 71.168.164.97 (talk) 18:09, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The dean is, of course, free to create an account- but they would need to do the exact same things you need to do. 331dot (talk) 18:29, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I would urge you to read WP:BOSS, and have the dean or other superiors at your college read it too. 331dot (talk) 18:30, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Welcome to Wikipedia. Your account has been blocked from editing because your username gives the impression that the account represents a group, club, organization, company, or website. Your username is the principal reason for the block. You are welcome to continue editing after you have chosen a new username that complies with Wikipedia's username policy.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable, regardless of the username that you choose. Additionally, if your contributions to Wikipedia form all or part of work for which you are, or expect to be, paid or compensated in any way, you must disclose who is paying you to edit here. You may also read our FAQ for article subjects.

Please take a moment to either create a new account, or request a username change to this account.
  • To create a new account with a different username, simply log out of this account and then click here to make a new one.
  • If you prefer to change the username of this account, you may do so by adding the following text to the bottom of your user talk page (this page): {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.

Important items to note:

  • The new username that you choose must represent you as an individual person, and it must comply with Wikipedia's username policy.
  • The new username you choose cannot already be taken and used by another account. You can search here to see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns, "There is no global account for [username]", that means it is available.
  • Please also note that you are permitted to use a username that contains the name of a company or organization if it also identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87", but not "SEO Manager at XYZ Company".

Appeals: If your username does not represent a group, organization, website, or other entity described above, and if you believe that this block was incorrect or made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the following text to the bottom of your user talk page (this page): {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}

Thank you. Ad Orientem (talk) 17:26, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This user's request to be unblocked to request a change in username has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without a good reason (see the blocking policy). Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Requested username:

Request reason:

User requested unblock, please see discussion above. ⇌ Jake Wartenberg 18:00, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

Close variations of that username are taken, so it is unavailable. Please propose something else. 331dot (talk) 18:08, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

As noted above, the article about your dean will not say what your dean (or college) might prefer, as the purpose of a Wikipedia article is to summarize what independent reliable sources say about the topic, not what it says about itself. The proper place for your dean to have their preferred description of themselves is the college website/personal website/social media. You are welcome to make edit requests to correct errors or propose new content that preferably summarizes independent reliable sources. 331dot (talk) 18:08, 23 July 2024 (UTC)}}[reply]

I see, and that is what I was attempting to do for the dean, as her page is from 2015 and does not reflect her current title, employer, or latest research. I also see that your request on my behalf to unblock me was denied, so what do I do now? Thank you! Lorraine 71.168.164.97 (talk) 18:11, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Remember to be logged in when you post. All you need to do to get unblocked is propose a new username that is available. You can run a potential choice through Special:CentralAuth; if no results come up, the choice is available(though this does not detect close variations that render a choice unusable) 331dot (talk) 18:13, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This user's request to be unblocked to request a change in username has been reviewed by an administrator, who accepted the request.

One moment. Please place new edits at the bottom for chronological flow. This may be easier to do if you click "edit" and not "reply". The reply function is imperfect and not useful in every situation. 331dot (talk) 18:24, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I've tried to use the talk feature on Dafna Lemish's page to suggest edits but I'm not sure it's visible. Is there a way to check on this and know if the process is being reviewed? Thank you! TheBlueHeronofHopewell (talk) 13:58, 26 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I have moved your comment above into its own section for the sake of clarity, since we are no longer discussing your unblock request. Thank you for making an edit request. You formatted the template markup correctly, and as long as the edit request template is being displayed, your request is in the queue and someone will respond. As I mentioned before, this will take some time and you will need to be very patient. As I mentioned before, you need to propose small, incremental changes that are supported with references. I advise you to significantly reduce the scope of your request, as it is certain to be declined in its current form. ⇌ Jake Wartenberg 14:24, 26 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for moving the comment to the above section. When you suggest reducing the scope of the request, my edits are minor, all things considered, but I thought it would be easier to incorporate them into one complete page. Are you suggesting that I make requests by section, or even by sentences? I really want this to work and to absolutely respect the rules, so I appreciate your guidance. TheBlueHeronofHopewell (talk) 14:46, 26 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that is exactly what I'm suggesting. You can break your request into sections, such as "In the biography section, replace the sentence 'example' with 'example,'" followed by a rationale for the proposed change and a citation. This will make it much easier for the person reviewing your request to see what you are asking them to change and to respond to the content of your request. ⇌ Jake Wartenberg 16:10, 26 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Jake,
I took your advice and went back in and submitted edits in the format you suggested, along with citations. Would you be able to see what I've submitted and let me know if you see any problems? I understand that there are almost 200 requests in front of me, but I'd like to at least know that I've got all my ducks in a row.
Thank you! Lorraine TheBlueHeronofHopewell (talk) 16:50, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your efforts. I cannot guarantee that all of your requested edits will be accepted, but it is certainly much more likely now than it was before. If you want to make things easier for the editor who reviews your request, you could format it so that each request is a separate bullet point. Bullets are represented with asterisks. You could also format the citations using {{cite}} and then place {{reflist-talk}} at the end of the list, before your signature. Finally, supporting your request with secondary sources as much as possible would strengthen it even further. ⇌ Jake Wartenberg 17:01, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Jake, I've added the asterisks and the {{reflist-talk}} at the end. I thought the citations were correct as is--is there something I need to do differently? Thanks! TheBlueHeronofHopewell (talk) 17:12, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Check out the documentation at WP:REFB. You can see how it works by reviewing the source code in the existing article. For example, instead of just pasting the url link after a sentence in the article, you would use something like: <ref>{{cite web|title=Title of source|url=http://www.example.com/my_great_source|website=example.com|publisher=[[Example Publisher]]|accessdate=July 29, 2024}}</ref> ⇌ Jake Wartenberg 19:21, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jake, I believe I've made all the requested edits and done the citations accurately. When I do an error check, it shows no errors. When I do a preview, it shows no errors. I attempted to upload an updated photo of the dean; this is her approved faculty photo and the copyright belongs to the Rutgers School of Communication and Information. Would you be able to help me with this? I don't own the copyright. Thank you! TheBlueHeronofHopewell (talk) 18:55, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Jake,
Would you be able to let me know about the photo uploading protocol when Rutgers has the copyright, not me?
Thanks!
Lorraine 71.168.164.97 (talk) 15:22, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You will need to be authorized by Rutgers to release the photograph under a free license. If this is the case, then you can follow these instructions. If you do not have this authorization, then you unfortunately cannot upload the image. ⇌ Jake Wartenberg 16:57, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Jake, would this be the proper license. I have permission from Rutgers to act as their represenative:

Yes, but you need to follow the instructions in my link. ⇌ Jake Wartenberg 19:56, 16 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Dafna lemish.jpeg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a copyright violation and has no credible claim of fair use or permission. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use it — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. -- Marchjuly (talk) 06:25, 20 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you upload this image under a {{cc-by-sa-4.0}} license? Only the copyright holder of a photo can release their work under such a license, and the copyright holder of a photo is, in principle, considered to be the photographer who takes it. You stated "Dafna Lemish image © 2022 by Rutgers School of Communication and Information; Mel Evans, photographer" in the file's description and the EXIF data also verifies this. Are you Mel Evans or did you find the photo released by Evans under said license on some website? There's no indication here that it's been released as such by Rutgers University's School of Communication and Information. Did you find the photo on some other website? -- Marchjuly (talk) 06:36, 20 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
