[edit]

Thanks for the small - but important, nonethless - correction to the text on Chad Campbell's college career ... there WERE an awful lot of Campbells in that paragraph. Mcwebeditor (talk) 19:23, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Edited Accenture Match Play Page

[edit]

Greetings Tewapack ...

Just letting you know that I did some editing on the Accenture Match Play page, in the section describing 2009 prize money and Fed Ex Cup points. I added a description to my submitted work.

My personal World Golf Championships page

UPDATE

[edit]

Greetings Once More, Tewapack

The PGA Tour is likely to round-up or round-down the Fed Ex Cup points to whole numbers for the 2009 Accenture Match Play. That is why I had the total at 3,641 - not 3,620. Even the current PGA Tour Schedule is using the figure of 3,641.

ALSO, just a suggestion - You might wish to archive a lot of the pre-2009 messages on your talk page.

PGA

[edit]

I am confused. You reverted what I changed. You link to the style guide, but the presentation of the names in the table has nothing to do with the style guide, which is obviously about how things are written in text. I totally agree that it would be weird to read a sentence like "This week at THE TOUR Championship, someone is going to win the FedEx Cup" or something. But the table of event names has nothing to do with that, and is much closer to being like the example that said on the first reference in an article about a particular non-standard thing, the article could properly use the unusual formatting. That's basically what we are dealing with here. 74.85.192.226 (talk) 02:23, 28 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, after doing some digging, I see this came up before (and I see that I was not logged in; this dumb computer remembers me sometimes and sometimes it does not, something must be messed up with its cookies management or something). I had a vague recollection that it had, but I was in the midst of taking the Bar Exam at the time so it didn't stick with me. At any rate, my objection still stands. Another format more explanatory

[edit]

I didn't understand your pov on the revert of infobox golfer doc[1].

For instance, how is "{{Death date and age|YYYY|MM|DD|YYYY|MM|DD}}" more explanatory? What is the second yyyy?

Why shouldn't users just be able to put in the date as they want it without all the mumbly numbers?

How about the following explanation for the parameter:

deathdate Insert date of death: month, day, year. If date of birth is known, use the {{Death-date and age}} Example:
{{Death-date and age|February 24, 1993|April 12, 1941}} for a golfer born on April 12, 1941 and died on February 24, 1993

Grier Jones

[edit]

Two things about him.

The best thing I remember about his playing days, was his falling victim to a closing five hole birdie barrage by Jack Nicklaus at the 1978 Inverrary. Maybe we can make note of that in his entry.

Also I seem to rule about putts hanging on the lip of the hole, was due to a Grier Jones waiting an inordinate amount of time at some tournament in the 70's when he had such a situation arise. Do you know any particulars about this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by WilliamJE (talkcontribs) 19:21, 29 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hey, would you mind flipping through Keith Allison's photos starting at http://www.flickr.com/photos/keithallison/page370/? Perhaps you can find a Ben Crane one. Also, there are a number of golfers he hasn't identified; perhaps you can tell who they might be? You can transfer anything you find to Commons using flickr2commons. adding pictures

[edit]

Hi Tewapack - we were hoping you could help us out with the Wichita Open page due to your experience on this site and with golf in general. We have some pictures to add to the page that we think would add even more to it, but we can't seem to understand the process of uploading the pictures and having licenses for them. We definitely have the backing of the Wichita Open to use their photos, but we're not sure what the next step is. Thanks in advance. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Phswichita (talkcontribs) 21:32, 13 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Accents in Spanish

[edit]

Hi Tewapack. I've been going back and forth with you in edits on Cabrera's entry. I'm a native Spanish speaker and have a degree in Spanish lit. The formal convention in Spanish is that no written accent is placed on capital letters in Spanish. So "Eres un [a]ngel" (you are an angel) WOULD have a written accent. "Angel" Cabrera, does not (because of its capitalization). Hope this clarifies my edits to the page and convinces you that they should stay that way. Tew, I'm getting ready to get back in the game after doing just bits and pieces here and there during the past year and a half. Thanks for adding material to my sandbox of defunct PGA Tournaments. Message from Hokeman: 3 topics

[edit]
  • Tew, I'm getting ready to start an ambitious article that is currently under construction as User:Hokeman/Sandbox 4. It is a clearinghouse of sorts for notable golfers who have many top-10 finishes but no wins on the PGA Tour. Take a look and tell me what you think. Also look at the proposed parameters on the discussion page. Please feel free to add material. When it reaches a certain critical mass, I'll add it to mainspace.
  • We have had pretty good success winnowing down the redlinks on Template:Former PGA Tour Events. I think it is down to about 11 now (albeit, it is not "done"). I'll continue adding these in the coming days and weeks. There are 3 redlinks that I have had absolutely no luck finding material: Virginia Beach Open (PGA Tour event), Rio Grande Valley Open and Golden Gate Championship. If you can find material or resources for these tournaments, please put it on User:Hokeman/Sandbox 1. That resource you gave me for Seattle Open Invitational was terrific; so was the PGA Tour's 1960-69 tournament by age resource.
  • Lastly, I wanted to let you know that I have been occasionally adding internal links into Template:Former PGA Tour Events, which are redirects into consolidated former PGA Tour event pages. This will allow Wikipedia users to navigate into that page from the template (otherwise they might only be able to find it from some obscure golfers page). For example, I put Hot Springs Open Invitational as a redirect into the Arlington Hotel Open page and then added it to the template. I want you to know that I had no intention of separating these - I think the way it's done now is the best way.

Keep up the good work!--Hokeman (talk) 18:58, 19 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

SPI on possible attack account

[edit]

I just want to give you a (rather belated) notice about an attack account that someone created a month ago with your name in it. See [[2]], there was a person named user:Ftuecwkasphaictk which is your name interlaced with "fuck" and "shit". I dont know if you ever even saw this person, so I wanted to post here to make sure you'd seen it and know that they may still be active under other names. If my suspicions are correct, they are indeed still active and only just blocked yesterday, and will likely try to come back again. Soap Talk/Contributions 16:47, 17 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Update: I have no idea who this person is but he is definitely still around. See the history of Phil Mickelson for example. Soap Talk/Contributions 04:32, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If I may. The guideline you are looking for is Wikipedia:External links. In addition, Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of random links. If you want to add content referenced from that article, then if it is a reliable source, by all means go ahead if it adds value. It makes no sense to add every single news article on a given subject to the external links section. Regards. wjematherbigissue 22:38, 31 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Buddy Alexander article

[edit]

Hi, Tewapack. I'm one of the folks working on the University of Florida Wikipedia Project. We are in the process of writing and re-writing all of the wiki articles about the Florida Gators coaches, including Buddy Alexander. I just started chewing ob Buddy's article today. Part of our formatting is to include a standard set of external links, Wiki cross-references, and Wiki categories for all University of Florida coaches and sports programs, with additional links, etc., appropriate to the particular coach or program. Good examples of recent re-writes are Becky Burleigh and Amanda O'Leary. More are in the works.

You just deleted what you deemed to be extraneous links, added only this morning. I have restored them. While we welcome your golf-related contributions to the Buddy Alexander and Florida Gators golf articles, please allow the UF editors to play lead on formatting, etc.

Thanks.

My edit on Tiger Woods

[edit]

Hi, it seems like you've reverted my edit on Tiger Woods, as shown here. I'm not sure why this has been done, because I've provided the citation for the controversial material. Is it inappropriate to add? Maybe it would be better if the reason for the revert is explained in the edit summary when reverting good faith edits. Disambiguation

[edit]

When you move pages like you did with John Schroeder (golfer) for disambiguation purposes, please clean up after yourself. I cleaned up the golfer pages so that they point directly to the correct place. I'll let the musician pages for you. Tewapack (talk) 03:49, 13 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I really got into something when I started that didn't I? Shortly after I started it I wished I hadn't got involved. Thanks for cleaning up after me. There's no problem, you can do the musician as well, I don't mind - I have no particular interest in the case, I was just dealing with Category:Proposed deletion as of 5 August 2009, and the Schroeder disambiguation page was one of those I dealt with. Regards. SilkTork *YES! 07:44, 13 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I just looked, and there's nothing to deal with because John Schroeder (musician) already existed. There was a request to delete John Schroeder (disambiguation) which I declined because neither of the John Schroeder articles were a primary topic, so a disamb page is appropriate, as per Wikipedia:Disambiguation#Disambiguation_page_or_disambiguation_links.3F. I then made both Schroeder articles equal and made John Schroeder the primary search and also the disambiguation page. I'm sorry if this meant that you also felt you had to do some work, but that, after all, is the nature of Wikipedia, it is a collaborative community of volunteers. We try to do our best, though we sometimes make mistakes, or forget to do something that somebody else will then complete. There are plenty of unfinished tasks on the project. Nobody is impelled to do anything, and nobody should feel impelled to do anything by another volunteer. Regards again. SilkTork *YES! 08:01, 13 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

My edit on Volvo World Match Play

[edit]

Hi Tewapack. I've tried to edit twice the VWMPC page to include a link to the official ticket sales site but you seem to revert the change. I am responsible for event promotion and GolfinSpain.com is the official ticket sales supplier as it has been for 6 years for the Volvo Masters where we normally never had a problem to have the link included. We are also preparing a version of the page about the event in Spanish but I am wondering if there is any kind of problem in including this or any other official information, like qualified players that would be announced this week, etc. I am uncertain about what you would allow what not. Suggestion about your userpage

[edit]

I think it's amazing that you have so many statistics about various golfers, and it must have taken you a lot of effort. My suggestion is that you could add {{rollback}} to your user page so other people can see that you have rollback. Regards. 65.92.125.39 (talk) 21:25, 21 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Also, just to let you know, on this chart on your userpage, I think Bob Tway should now be placed to the golfers over 50 years old section since he's now 50. 65.92.125.39 (talk) 23:50, 21 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

HSBC Champions

[edit]

I don't see how the HSBC Champions is a PGA TOUR event if a win at it does not even count as an official win (let alone the money list). It isn't listed on the website under the schedule; it's a "featured event." We don't put the OMEGA Mission Hills World Cup on the schedule either, and for good reason: it's relationship with the PGA TOUR schedule is very tenuous. The HSBC Champions is in the same situation, is it not? MrArticleOne (talk) 11:59, 29 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

While your point regarding the Presidents Cup is well-taken, I also anticipated it. The Presidents Cup is directly organized by the PGA TOUR and is closely associated with it and its operations (and the Ryder Cup is a direct off-season analogue). The HSBC Champions and OMEGA Mission Hills World Cup have very little direct PGA TOUR involvement. I don't see how either of them is realistically a part of the PGA TOUR season. Is it subjective? Sure, but it seems like the sort of editorial decision that we're supposed to make. If, someday, the HSBC Champions does become an official event you can bet that at least this one would be retroactively considered the same, which would be the most appropriate time (in my opinion) to add it. I can't believe it is you that did this, but his win at the WGC-HSBC Champions must be counted as both a PGA Tour and European Tour win in order to make his page accurate with the PGA Tour records, which means you are wrong to have de-listed it as 38 to 37, which this needs to be like Tiger Woods page, which has a disclaimer. I will fix it back and I expect it to stay at 38 not 37 in a day if you do not make it accurate and correct because it was a PGA Tour event as well as of 2009. Did you see this thread? Regardless of his name at birth, he may have changed it since and he seems like a better authority for his current name than any other source.--Chaser (talk) 17:06, 7 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This issue has been discussed several times on the article talk page, check the archives. He thought about changing his legal name from Eldrick to Tiger but decided against it (I provided quotes from several newspaper articles from early 1997). The Larry King interview is hardly definitive. A well-researched book (Sounes) that quotes Earl Woods discussing his Tiger's birth names and quoting his birth certificate is the best source available.Tewapack (talk) 17:24, 7 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
