Vangelia
[edit]Hi! Could you please spell for me "Vangelia" in Greek? --Cameltrader 10:41, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
- ...and confirm whether it really means Herald of the Blessed Word as claimed in baba Vanga. --Cameltrader 10:44, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks. I hope I don't get annoying, but I need another one: Pristis, supposed to mean harbour or something. It is part of Sexaginta Prista, an ancient name of Rousse, Bulgaria (the first word means "sixty" in Latin). There's a similar Bulgarian word pristanishte — harbour, which gives me hope to find the root. I tried some online dictionaries listed at the article about Greek language, and I got περιθάλπω (maybe modern Greek?), which looks vaguely similar only in the first few letters. I can't figure out the original combinations of iod/eta and accents. --Cameltrader 13:09, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
Macedonistic map
[edit]Hahahah, I like it! I just love the way "one can easily see" where the Macedonians make up the majority of the population, and that there aren't national minoroties in Greece simply because "every country in Europe has national minorities". Of course, it's needless to say there are no Albanians in the Republic, not at all :)
Thanks for the interwiki and the name in Greek! Todor→Bozhinov 11:29, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
Arvanite pictures
[edit]Hi Telex, as you have some practice creating picture galleries: would you like to make a new one for the Arvanites, using perhaps Image:Melina Mercouri.JPG, Image:Bouboulina.JPG, Image:MarkosBotsaris.jpg, Image:Nikos Engonopoulos.jpg, and/or one of the four uniformed politicians? I'm quite proud I actually got GFDL permission for the Melina picture, we didn't have any good photograph of her anywhere on WP. Fut.Perf. ☼ 20:41, 13 August 2006 (UTC)
- Give me a few days - I have limited internet access at the moment. --Telex 13:41, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
- As for Arbereshe/Arberore, I see we currently have only the one version, but apparently both are attested. Feel free to insert whatever you think is linguistically authentic. Fut.Perf. ☼ 13:51, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
- By the way, do you think we should move the Arvanitic language article to Arvanitika? There seem to have been wild move wars about that, some time back in the Bronze Age or so, but my impression is those disputes are pretty much obsolete now. "Arvanitika" seems to be more common in the literature, and it is also neutral with respect to the underlying separate-language dispute that was so hotly debated back then. Fut.Perf. ☼ 14:27, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

- Have you looked at the current state of the the article Armenian-Turkish_relations?? and pls also have a look at its talk page talk:Armenian-Turkish_relations... I rewrote it and enriched it, and there is also a comment by the guy who created the article user:Fedayee who confirmed that it was nice editing.. This deletion that u mentioned ONLY took place because I am new to Wikipedia and I didn't have much experience on how editing works.. The current state of the article CLEARLY shows this, that part of the article is still there and it has much more clarity... I have also copy-edited the PKK article from TOP to BOTTOM, something nobody was willing to do for AGES, if you have any evidence of bias there, pls feel free to change it... Pls stop trolling.. I have lived in Turkey, the US and France (still there) during my life, I went to schools that 99 percent of the people of this world doesn't have the luck to go and I speak three languages fluently, the Hagia Sophia picture definitely DIDN'T piss me off, in fact I see it as a good evidence of how intertwined Turkish and Greek cultures are, and as such, a wealth to be cherished, when I saw the picture, that's not at all what I was thinking, that kind of animosity belongs in the past... ANYONE, Turkish, Greek, French, Russian etc. that puts so many quotes about the greatness of his country is a nationalist, if you can point me to a Turk that has so many quotes on his page, I give you my WORD that I will write on his page exactly what I just wrote. I have not claimed to be the unique (or any) example of democracy and never will... And please let's not skirt the issue, being democratic doesn't mean blindly accepting every political claim of grievance put forward for the sake of political correctness.. You have still not been able to anwser my posts in the talk page... If, for one reason or the other, you got some beef with the Young Turks, pls keep it to yourself UNLESS you got the proof to back it up.. I have not even mentioned or defended, or attacked the Young Turks in any of my postings, where did this come from???? I most probably know about the atrocities that the Young Turks have committed or influenced much more than you do, I have made extensive research on European legal history, as I said I am an international lawyer, I have read hundreds of thousands of pages concerning history, law and philosophy to this day. As i said, again, you don't know me, you don't know what i do in life and you don't know what experiences I had in life to this point.. If you are assuming that all Turks are chauvinistic nationalists, than u r wrong and that's not cool; if u don't however, pls act accordingly.. What I am saying is, however, that allegations have to be substantiated... But, I am definitely someone to lay down and give people free reign to settle old scores on the other hand, FYI.. If there is enough PROOF of anything, I WILL believe it.. I am an atheist and I believe that the only valid form of proof is the scientific one, and as such, claims have to be proven using the Scientific Method.. Why don't u spend your time trying to answer my posts rather than engaging in ad hominim attacks?? Regards.. Baristarim 23:40, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
BTW, as for the quotes, I have said nothing about them or their authors, I don't think that they are Greek nationalists nor do I think that the content of the quotes are incorrect, quite the contrary actually... I repeat again, I don't think that this issue is a who-is-better issue, it only gives me pleasure that such rich cultures have existed and continue to exist in our planet.. What I am SAYING, however, is the EXCESSIVE USE of such quotes by ANYONE about their country would be nationalistic behaviour, that's all. Pls don't try to portray me as a Greek-hater (culturally or individually) Baristarim 23:49, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

Pontian title revisited
[edit]Hi. Note: I'm neither Greek nor Turkish, nor do I have any knowledge whatsoever about the alleged incidents. I do, however, have an opinion on the title of Pontian Greek Genocide. I read through the talk page, and there was one suggestion that was mentioned that seemed to be overlooked by all parties: "Pontian Greek Genocide Thesis". The word "thesis" is extremely neutral. I've added my points to the most recent discussion there, but bear in mind that I won't discuss the issue any further on that page. Please, however, feel free to discuss on my talk page. --Storkk 12:13, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

Suspected sock of aldux
[edit]I have placed a suspected sock puppet template on your userpage, due to your edit to Republic_of_Macedonia. This doesn't mean you're banned or anything, but the similarities with aldux are too close to be ignored, so I have put it up just to be safe. If a long period of time passes without any trouble, I'll remove it. AIUI 14:01, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
- Please do not edit my user page. Many people have considered me a sockpuppet of Aldux, of Hectorian, of NikoSilver etc in the past, and the admins able to verify the validity of these allegations (see WP:RCU) have always dismissed the requests. If you want, feel free to make another RCU, just don't edit my user page. --Telex 14:13, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
- How admins are able to verify the validity of these allegations? AIUI 15:12, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
- By looking at my and Aldux's IP addresses. If we can be traced to different countries (and that's what will happen), then we are assumed not to be sockpuppets. --Telex 15:15, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit]Regarding {{totallydisputed}}, are you sure it includes {{unreferenced}}? I always thought it just was used as a combination between {{POV}} and {{disputed}}... BTW, do you remember what you said to Pecher a long time ago? "It doesn't hurt to assume good faith once in a while." :-/
About the link you showed me, how often do you read their articles? :-) Regardless of the source, it is interesting nonetheless, and I agree—it is nice. I wonder how many countries recognize the Assyrian genocide, the article doesn't have a section about that. My friend Chaldean wrote most of the article, perhaps he knows. —Khoikhoi 08:33, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
- Never mind, the article does state that it is not recognized by any country in the world. —Khoikhoi 08:34, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks! :) Regarding the terms Assyrian, Syriac, and Chaldean...I think Χαλδαίος would give you a better answer. What I now is that the term Assyrian is what most of the non-Arab, non-Turk, non-Kurd Christians from the Middle East describe themselves as. "Chaldean" refers to ethnic Assyrians that belong to the Chaldean Catholic Church. Syriac is a term used to coin all Semitic and ethnically non-Arab Christians of the Middle East—so I guess they include Arameans as well. It's a confusing subject, I hope I didn't make matters more complicated. According to the 2nd paragraph of the Assyrian genocide, there are many people that do not wish to use the ethnic ethnic identifier Assyrian. But different people will tell you different things. —Khoikhoi 20:35, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

Greco-Bulgarian relations
[edit]Yep, it's a great article idea, I'd be happy to work on it :) As for history, Aldux's suggestion to start from 1878 is nice, although the Bulgarians and the Greeks as peoples have had contacts since the Early Middle Ages, and I wouldn't object on beginning from that period either. There is already an article about the the Byzantine-Bulgarian Wars, we can integrate it in some way in Byzantine-Bulgarian relations or Greco-Bulgarian relations. Todor→Bozhinov 13:54, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
- I find this a good idea as well! however, with all respect to Aldux, i do not think that we should we should start from 1878. because we are not talking only about the modern states. this way we should create a separate article named Byzantine Empire-First Bulgarian Kingdom relations and so on. There could be some reference to the Byzantine and early Middle Ages periods, and then, in a 'See also' section, we may add Byzantine-Bulgarian Wars. --Hectorian 14:54, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

- He can't expect nineveh.com to be a serious source on what and who people are. All that sources is the self-identification of the community (e.g. the community claims to be XYZ). It doesn't source what he is saying. Anyway, the exact quote from Britannica is The most numerous of these [ethnic minorities] (more than one-fifth of the population) are the Albanians, who claim to be descendants of the ancient Illyrians. They are concentrated in the northwest, along the borders with Albania and the predominantly Albanian province of Kosovo in Serbia., so don't have any doubts, this is encyclopedic style. --Telex 22:32, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

- BTW, I've been talking with an Aromanian editor here. What part of meta do you think he should go to? —Khoikhoi 22:56, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
- Britannica doesn't really address the issue of modern vs ancient Greeks, although at their article on Greece it does say: Greece lies at the juncture of Europe, Asia, and Africa. It is heir to the heritages of classical Greece, the Byzantine Empire, and nearly four centuries of Ottoman rule.
- To change the Aromanian interwiki label, you should ask a m:Developers. I think User:Brion VIBBER would be happy to help. Oops, I spoke too late: m:User talk:Jon Harald Søby#Aromanian translation. --Telex 23:01, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit]Hi Telex, I would highly appreciate if you don't push the Serb POV in the Kosovo article. I can understand your nationalist point of view when it comes to Arvanites and other Albanian-Greek related issues, but I don't understand why you have to 'defend' the Serbs? Greek policy is shifting towards Kosovo and I would appreciate if you actually support the neutral point of view (the UNMIK position) until the status is decided, which will be independence. I have great respect for ancient greek literature... Albanians and Greeks have too much in common, for the latter to fall for Serb propaganda. I don't understand why?

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article User:Telex/Serbian Greek Empire, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on [[Talk:User:Telex/Serbian Greek Empire|its talk page]]. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. AfD nomination of Prespa e Vogël and Golloborda
[edit]An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Prespa e Vogël and Golloborda. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").
Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Prespa e Vogël and Golloborda. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.
Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:09, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:Abecedar.JPG
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Abecedar.JPG. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 18:11, 26 May 2017 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Greek Helsinki Monitor
[edit]Hello, Telex,
Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username Willbb234 and it's nice to meet you :-)
I wanted to let you know that I have tagged an article that you started, Greek Helsinki Monitor, for deletion, because it's impossible to identify the subject of the article.
If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top. If the page is already deleted by the time you come across this message and you wish to retrieve the deleted material, please contact the deleting administrator.
For any further query, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Willbb234}}
. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~
. Thanks!
