Did a redirect which I made recently cause problems?

[edit]

I just made a redirect from William Trego to William B. T. Trego. I think that after I did that I saw that your page User:Tassedethe/dabs/will db had an entry for "William_Trago" (however, I don't see that entry now). I'm confused about whether my redirect edit had unfavorable repercussions. I hope not. CWBoast (talk) 00:21, 29 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

No, no problems at all. I am just keeping a list of pages that possibly need a redirect or disambiguation. And I remove them as I do the checking. Happy editing. Tassedethe (talk) 00:38, 29 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Museum Of Bad Art

[edit]

Hi. Would you please revert your good faith bold move of the name? Thanks. The upper-case "Of" is part of the proper name of the museum. Randy Kryn (talk) 21:32, 9 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry but no. I'm reverting the good faith bold move from February 2018. Previously it was stable at the lowercase title from its creation in 2005. There was no discussion of the February move and I don't believe less than 2 months at the new title conveys any sort of presumed stability, certainly not enough to override 13 years of stability. My edit summary did not have the correct link to the style manual, it should have gone to the the link MOS:NAMECAPS which deals with proper names. If you think it should be moved please open a full WP:RM discussion. I would point out that there is not a single article on Wikipedia that is titled "Museum Of..." [1]. Every single such article is at "Museum of" [2]. Tassedethe (talk) 21:56, 9 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thanks. I was researching the "of" after leaving my note and unfortunately you're right. I never will understand why Wikipedia can't name things like this with their correct real-world name. Randy Kryn (talk) 22:02, 9 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, you made an incorrect link from Henry worsely hill to Henry Hill. Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.12.61.5 (talk) 16:52, 12 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

No. I added Henry Worsley Hill to the disambiguation page Henry Hill (disambiguation) which lists all people with the name Henry Hill. That is the correct thing to do. Tassedethe (talk) 17:00, 12 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Kristen Johnson

[edit]

Just a heads up, I'm not sure what you were doing but first of all you created a redirect page with the wrong title (Miss Kentucky USA is correct, Miss Kentucky is not) then you created a whole lot of unnecessary links to the page it is redirected to which basically created double ups. I've just had to spend quite a while untangling all of this. Not all pageant titles are the same! ...   CJ [a Kiwi] in  Oz  23:16, 3 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

María del Carmen

[edit]

Please let me understand why you moved the opera to María del Carmen. It's based on a play of the same name, - what if that play should get an article? I am used to have a disambiguation for derived works, for example Christ unser Herr zum Jordan kam, BWV 7, while the thing it's derived from is without, Christ unser Herr zum Jordan kam. This was so before the latter was written. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:47, 24 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Well if the play does get an article no problem, the opera can be moved. There are no rules about derived works. The original can be at the undisambiguated title, or not, depending on the relative notability of the two. See e.g. Midnight Cowboy, the notable film, based on a much less notable novel Midnight Cowboy (novel). Tassedethe (talk) 20:52, 24 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

George Lanning

[edit]

Thank you for moving George Lanning (American author) to George Lanning. I created the original page with an over-abundance of caution; I had read about the Civil War commander (alias Lionel F. Booth), but was also concerned about another author named George Lanning (possibly British) who lived from 1852-1920 (see https://catalogue.nla.gov.au/Search/Home?lookfor=author:%22Lanning%2C%20George%2C%201852-1920%22&iknowwhatimean=1). This older Lanning apparently wrote historical treatises on Shanghai and China, but I haven't found enough information to even consider creating a page for him (his lack of notability is also a concern). In hindsight, the "American author" tag was probably not needed. Thanks again. DAL91 (talk) 05:56, 8 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Alexei Zuev

[edit]

Hello Tassedethe, why did you change "Alexei Zuev (pianist)" to "Alexei Zuev"? There is a football player with the same name. Only the latin transcription of the kyrillic letters "Алексей Зуев" is different in the two wikipedia-articles (Alexei and Aleksei). There is also a soviet army officer with the same name (without wikipedia-article, but mentioned at the wikipedia-article "Zuyev"). --Chiemseehering (talk) 09:11, 28 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It's only necessary to add a disambiguator i.e. (pianist) to an article title if the plain title is already taken. As there was no article at Alexei Zuev I moved it to the empty location. If there are other similar titled articles then you can add a hatnote per WP:SMALLDETAILS. Tassedethe (talk) 14:43, 28 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

WPCleaner 2.0

[edit]
Installer for WPCleaner

Hello Tassedethe.

I would like to inform you that a new version of WPCleaner is available replacing the old version (v1.43) dating back to almost a year. Unfortunately, going from version 1.43 to 2.0 automatically isn't possible and will require a new installation. It's necessary to install version 2.0 to take advantage of updates and bug fixes. Version 1.43 will have to be uninstalled manually, as there are no more updates for it.

The installation procedure is described at Wikipedia:WPCleaner/Installation.

Note: for usage in Bot mode, I strongly advise to check the modifications to be sure that the tasks run correctly

Happy Christmas!
Hello Tassedethe,
Early in A Child's Christmas in Wales the young Dylan and his friend Jim Prothero witness smoke pouring from Jim's home. After the conflagration has been extinguished Dylan writes that

Nobody could have had a noisier Christmas Eve. And when the firemen turned off the hose and were standing in the wet, smoky room, Jim's Aunt, Miss. Prothero, came downstairs and peered in at them. Jim and I waited, very quietly, to hear what she would say to them. She said the right thing, always. She looked at the three tall firemen in their shining helmets, standing among the smoke and cinders and dissolving snowballs, and she said, "Would you like anything to read?"

My thanks to you for your efforts to keep the 'pedia readable in case the firemen chose one of our articles :-) Best wishes to you and yours and happy editing in 2019. MarnetteD|Talk 21:18, 19 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of disambiguation entry for Stephen Williams

[edit]

Hi there. I'm not familiar with Dabfix or how it works, but apparently you used it for this change, and I'm wondering why it removed the Stephen Williams (biologist) I'd added the other day? I know it was a red link, but I've seen them on other disambiguation pages before and assumed that he'd be created one day... I'd like to leave him there, but is it best to remove the link, or add a stub page for him (I haven't got time at the moment to do a full work-up). Laterthanyouthink (talk) 02:38, 6 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Laterthanyouthink. Guidelines about entries on dab (disambiguation) pages are outlined on the style guide MOS:DAB. Entries without existing articles (as with Stephen Williams (biologist)) are covered by MOS:DABMENTION and MOS:DABRL. Basically to be included on a dab page an entry must be either mentioned on another Wikipedia page or redlinked from another page. For the entry removed neither of these was true. The redlink is not linked from other pages, and none of the 3 blue links mentioned a Stephen Williams. Dab pages are not articles, they merely exist to redirect users to the correct article. That's why the external link was also removed. Starting an article is the best way to ensure entries are included. A referenced article on a notable scientist would obviously be included on the dab page. Adding sourced information to another, appropriate, article is also valid. But that information may be removed if editors feel it is either inappropriate or not adequately sourced. Please see Wikipedia:Write the article first for other reasons why creating an article is the best way forward. Good luck! Tassedethe (talk) 01:41, 8 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Tassedethe and thanks for getting back to me. Sorry, I should have dug around and found that guidance in the style guide. I still don't have time to fully investigate his notability (although at a glance he seems to be well-known in the field), but I might add him to the DAB page again with a link to the article in which he is mentioned and quoted. Stuck my foot in it.

[edit]

While none of my edits on book of the Dead (Dab) involved a net reduction in size, i'm sure I clumsily removed more than one valid entry in my unfinished reorg. I worked on some IMO glaring grammar/rhetoric faults (my past confessions of venial pedanticism are fully accessible *somewhere* on WP), and my major concern is that more splitting and less lumping in the dab "tree" that's implicit in the ToC would make the Dab'n more efficient via reduced sequential and more hierarchical search of the ToC tree will better serve users. If you could (selectively, partially) revert of any of my complete removals (or incoherency-reducing edits) of entries, I would be grateful, and be facilitated in producing a partial reorg more worthy of collaborative criticism. I could even start from scratch in the event of complete reversion, but my stumbling editing will be more productive if someone could restore the (perhaps innocent, perhaps repairworthy, and perhaps commingled) material I was trying to work on.)
Oh, FYI, my recent edits have involved not just both logged-in and IP edits from home, but also from a climbing gym or two, and maybe even ones when I was unwittingly pinging cell-towers at exhorbitant cost!
