Thanks

Thanks for pointing out the page on stub categories—I hadn't known about it. —JerryFriedman 15:12, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

I didn't create that page! Cheers --Pak21 17:17, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

I'm really not complaining, but I've had nothing to do with that page whatsoever: see the history (unless there's a really funny database bug around here somewhere). Cheers --Pak21 19:07, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

stub tags

Hi, just a comment: I don't really think it's appropriate to pressure editors into finding precise {{stub}} templates. If people want to spend their Wikipedia time on specific stub types, then that's great, even helpful, but it is not by any means necessary. — Matt Crypto 22:12, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

Perhaps you could reword it less as a "lecture" template, but more as a "you might be interested" template, e.g.:
"I noticed you use {{stub}} template; you might be interested in WP:STUBS, a list of subject-specific stub templates which can make it easier for editors with expertise in the subject to find pages that need work."

I have become aware that you placed a tag on Alpharetta Elementary School requesting it be deleted by the proposed deletion process. I request you convert the deletion process to AfD to recieve more input from the comunity. Contact me at User talk:Natl1.--Natl1 20:49, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

I now understand that being a school is not notable enough for being in an encyclopedia. You have my support in deleting the article.--Natl1 21:02, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

Hi,

Thanks for your nomination of Bear Creek Secondary School in the News for speedy deletion. Unfortunately, there is already a controversy regarding the page that demands this page to be in place. The contents of this page was originally located on the Bear Creek Secondary School page. It was then removed and created into a subpage due to vandalism incidents and the negative feedback from the Parent and Student Councils of Bear Creek SS. Because I had mistakenly created a subpage with a "/" instead of adhering with Wikipedia policies regarding subpages, I corrected that error with the creation of this page. I have removed the deletion template from that page, but I value your opinion greatly. If you still object to this page, then please leave a message on my talk page, and I will reply to it quickly.

Thanks, 17:29, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

Okay, per your request for merger, I have merged the two articles. Note that edit wars may arise with the merger.. edit wars was the reason I had split up the articles in the first place.
And, sorry, it was a proposed deletion. My brain wasn't thinking when I was typing it. :)
About Bear Creek Secondary School, I have made some little changes after your major edit. I have rewritten and condensed one or two deleted sections, and I have reformatted a little. If there's something that I've done that is horribly wrong, then feel free to change it :) -- 20:54, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
I'm pretty sure that the news articles were rewritten. I personally worked on them a while ago, and while I might've borrowed words from the actual article itself, it's definitely my own writing. As for the source for that one news, the rape trial one, I don't know where it went. I guess they just took it off the web after a certain period of time. I did a google search for it (it was published in 2+ newspapers, one national and one local at least) yet I just found letters to the editor stuff. I can't seem to find any other sources to it. I'll keep working on it though. Thanks for all your incredibly thorough editing to this; it really needed it! -- 00:33, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
The Editor's Barnstar
I, Lovelaughterlife, award Swpb the Editor's Barnstar for recognizing that sometimes text removal is the most effective editing; and sometimes, a proposed delete could actually motivate more work on the articles involved. It was nice working with you! --lovelaughterlife♥talk? 23:17, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

I'm rather disheartened by your dismissive characterization of a piece published in Liberty Magazine by an extensively-published writer and Presidential candidate of a national political party as just something posted to a personal website. Night Gyr (talk/Oy) 04:18, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

Your recent edit to Peninsular Northern Railroad (diff) was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to recognize and repair vandalism to Wikipedia articles. The AVB delay

It's a catch 22 there. One of the primary goals of the bot is to revert vandalism faster than the vandals can make it hence ensuring that their vandalism never appears to anyone and never gets seen by a human being. If I throw in a lag on it (which was very unpopular) it keeps the vandalism up for a little bit longer and gives the vandals a view of their "vandalized" page for a few seconds, something the bot tries to avoid -- Tawker 07:35, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

I was looking for the right stub template, but by the time the page of stubs would have loaded on my 56k connection, the world might have ended! Didn't you see that I refer to one of his books? Zigzig20s 04:45, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

He is cited in Tim Cresswell's "Place, A Short Introduction" as well. Basically he expanded the definition of space, which is a core topical issue in political/urban geography. Zigzig20s 05:01, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
Added but it does not look like anything I have ever seen on Wikipedia. If there is another way of citing sources, please enlighten me - or better still, move around the sources in the article itself. I don't think we can leave it like I have edited it, but at least now it is perfectly clear that Henri Lefevre is not unheard of. Zigzig20s 05:10, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
Ok, done. Are you gonna leave the references tag on? (I don't have time to look for other references, but it is pretty obvious that he is not made up now.) Zigzig20s 05:19, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

Tilapia articles

Greetings! If you stop by the Tilapia talk page you'll see that creating these "spin-off" articles was necessary and agreed by the editors of that article. The key problem is that "tilapia" gets used to mean different things, and the "all-in-one" article was cumbersome and confusing. Tilapiine cichlids, for example, include the genus Tilapia as well as other genera sometimes called tilapias and other genera never called tilapias but included among the tilapiine cichlids! As a result, merging the articles as you've suggested this evening wouldn't help at all, and would in fact re-create the confusion we've been trying to avoid. Cheers, Neale Neale Monks 23:49, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

I'm in complete agreement with Neale- the confusion between Tilapia and Tilapia (not to mention Tilapiines - or that the fact the tribe itself is polyphyletic) is more than enough reason in my opinion to separate the articles. MidgleyDJ 10:37, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Regarding edits made to Claude Thibeault

Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia, Swpb! However, your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove spam from Wikipedia. Your monobook is in Category:Wikipedia tools. This is most likely because when you were copying scripts into yout monobook you accidentaly copied their category. Since your monobook is not a tool itself, please remove this category from it. If you intend for your monobook to be a tool, please consider creating a subpage with a more descriptive name, and moving the category there. Bandspam

We can discuss this on wikien-l if you like. Ive sent off the first message. My position is that trivial stuff should be separated from non-trivial stuff, and historically people have agreed that this is covered by using an otheruses template and a disambiguation page. Even if there are only two elements, it still requires abstraction. Otherwise, what would WP pages look like? And why stop at songs? We could also mention on Frankfurt that Frank N Furter is a character in RHPS. Or that Smith is also the name of the bad guy in The Matrix. Your position appears to be simply a promotional one. -Ste|vertigo 05:50, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

Hi - you marked the above page as a Wiktionary entry , which it probably merited in November 06. However, I have put some of the missing detail in and I would suggest that it warrants continued inclusion in Wikipedia. Rather than simply delete the banner, I thought I had better discuss with the original author of that decision. Regards. Velela 20:47, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

Mr. Shadow

I see you had tagged and managed to delete an article I made on a well known Chicano Rap artist called Mr. shadow- this was the reason you gave for the tag "I have tagged your article Mr. Shadow for speedy deletion. Wikipedia is not the place to promote or get attention for unknown artists" I was not promoting Mr. Shadow, the article was part of the Chicano Rap articles on Wikipedia, he is well established in Southern California and especially San Diego and is not "unknown". Infact he is probably the most popular Chicano rapper. Wikipedia is the place to include all artists of all genres, whether classical or heavy metal. Is there anyway I can appeal against the deletion? Anyway I am rather busy and am annoyed by this pointless deletion.—Preceding unsigned comment added by CharlesBronson18 (talkcontribs)

Orbits

Unfortunately, a Polar sun synchronous orbit is unique from a polar orbit

Uhh, thanks, but the question was whether sun-synchronous is unique from polar sun synchronous. As far as I can tell, they are the same thing. You can't make a non-polar sun-sync orbit, as far as I am aware, and the description is obviously the same.

Maury 20:29, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

You are missing this part, which admittedly is a bit too buried for my tastes: Typical Sun-synchronous orbits are about 600–800 km in altitude, with periods in the 96–100 minute range, and inclinations of around 98° The variations are in altitude, and thus timing. However in order to remain with a fixed angle to the sun, you're going to have to either be polar-ish, or alternately geostationary-ish. The later is not terribly useful, as as far as I am aware, unused. It's just terminology that needs to be cleaned up, but in any case the "polar" one should be a redir the the most. Hello. I notice you changed the sentence "The following is a list of noise rock bands with Wikipedia articles." to "The following is a list of notable noise rock bands.". I wonder if you could explain why. I feel that the former wording is absolutely clear about what should be in the list: links to wikipedia articles. The latter wording will make readers think that they can add names of bands that are "notable", and this will cause unverifiable additions to the list. I greatly prefer the former wording. I don't think the embedded comments are particularly helpful, based on what I've seen editors add in the past. Please let me know your thinking on this. Heat (disambiguation)

Please be careful when reformatting disambiguation pages. In reformatting Heat (disambiguation), you changed:

Heat is energy which is spontaneously flowing from an object with a high temperature to an object with a lower temperature.

to

Heat, in physics, is energy which spontaneously flows from an object with a high temperature to an object with a lower temperature.

While you might think the difference is trivial, if you'd checked the discussion page you'd have seen a discussion on the exact wording, and why the former is preferable. (A quote from a textbook, on the usage of the word heat: Only energy in transit may correctly be called "heat.")

My point isn't to quibble about physics, but to note that you should avoid even slight changes in phrasing, unless you're willing to wade through the talk pages. :) --Starwed 12:36, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

Unfortunately, those references were spammed there by a SPA - I've no idea as to whether they're relevant or not in that context. Also re. substing the {{Reflist}} template, you might not want to do that, as it allows global changes in reference list format from a single point and also, you can't place the optional column argument later should you need it. The documentation page at the template link above shows this. Thanks - Alison 05:38, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

The Orbits template was the result of trying to learn some of the template tricks I've seen. I seem to've found myself sucked into this template world and can see how addictive editing can be.

The only thing I couldn't work out for the Orbits template was how to remove the v-d-e links next to the "Parameters" heading so it could sit in line with the other headings. Do you know how? I'm hoping it's something easy I've missed. Thanks again and for any help. Sardanaphalus 16:23, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
