Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "Swiss Journal of Economics and Statistics", may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because it is the name of a journal rather than an individual. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may ask for a change of username by completing the form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest, or you may simply create a new account for editing. Thank you. Hello,
thank you for your message. I am employed by the Journal's chief editor to create three Wikipedia pages for the Swiss Journal of Economics and Statistics. But currently I need to make at least 10 edits in Wikipedia to get an auto-confirmed user status.
I will highly appreciate if you kindly advise what solution would be better in this situation: to request a change of my user name (as Kateryna Dashevska) or to continue under the Journal's name.
Thank you in advance for your kind reply.
Best regards,
Kateryna Dashevska

Welcome to Wikipedia. Your account has been blocked from editing because your username gives the impression that the account represents a group, club, organization, company, or website. Your username is the principal reason for the block. You are welcome to continue editing after you have chosen a new username that complies with Wikipedia's username policy.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable, regardless of the username that you choose. Additionally, if your contributions to Wikipedia form all or part of work for which you are, or expect to be, paid or compensated in any way, you must disclose who is paying you to edit here. You may also read our FAQ for article subjects.

Please take a moment to either create a new account, or request a username change. The new username that you choose must represent you as an individual person, and it must comply with Wikipedia's username policy.
  • To create a new account with a different username, simply log out of this account and then click here to make a new one.
  • If you prefer to change the username for this account instead, you may do so by adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page (which is this page): {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be in use by another account. You can use this page to search the list of registered accounts and see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If your search returns that "there is no global account for [your search term]", that means it is available.

Please also note that you are permitted to use a username that contains the name of a company or organization if it also identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87", but not "SEO Manager at XYZ Company".

Appeals: If your username does not represent a group, organization, website, or other entity described above, and if you believe that this block was incorrect or made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page (which is this page): {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}

Thank you. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 11:37, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Swiss Journal of Economics and Statistics. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being employed (or being compensated in any way) by a person, group, company or organization to promote their interests. Paid advocacy on Wikipedia must be disclosed even if you have not specifically been asked to edit Wikipedia. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Swiss Journal of Economics and Statistics. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Swiss Journal of Economics and Statistics|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. Theroadislong (talk) 11:40, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,
Thank you for your explanation. Could you please advise me on the next steps I should take?
I have been tasked with creating a page about the Swiss Journal of Economics and Statistics (SJES). I am employed by the university, not the journal itself. I understand from your explanation that "paid advocates are strongly discouraged from direct article editing."
I have researched the 160-year history of the journal and drafted a neutral article in MS Word. I would like to publish this article. Is it still possible for me to publish it myself if I include the "PAID" template on my user page?
P.S. I have a cover photo of the journal to be published as well. On what terms can I publish it then, if it was provided by the owner to me?
Thank you in advance for your further explanations.
Kind regards,
Kateryna Swiss Journal of Economics and Statistics (talk) 12:11, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi! I'll try to answer these questions. The steps to take are:
  • choose a new username that represents you as an individual, and either follow the instructions in the blue template above or just write it here; it doesn't have to be a real name (look at mine!). I can rename and unblock your account.
  • once you're able to, add a {{paid}} template to your user page, as explained by Theroadislong above
  • you can then request changes to the article using {{Edit COI}} on the talk-page, Talk:Swiss Journal of Economics and Statistics, ensuring that your proposed changes are supported by solid independent reliable sources (i.e., not the publicity materials of the journal itself)
  • for the cover image you have two options: you can either upload it to Wikimedia Commons and have a person with managerial authority at the journal (the chief editor?) create a Creative Commons release here; or you can upload a low-resolution version to Wikipedia under our non-free content criteria
If you have more questions, ask away! Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 13:59, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Justlettersandnumbers,
Thank you so much for your detailed response and for offering to help with the renaming and unblocking of my account. I have chosen a new username: Firefly2024. Could you please rename my account to this new username?
I will follow the necessary steps as you kindly suggested. I am also looking for assistance with a speedy review of my drafts on topics such as biography, history, and economics, and I am a new user here, what options is possible to consider?
Regarding the cover image, I will ask the chief editor to upload it by himself to Wikimedia commons.
Thank you once again for your assistance.
Best regards,

I've renamed your account and unblocked it. Welcome to Wikipedia, Firefly2024! Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 21:01, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Kateryna, I have responded to your question at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions; you can find my response here. Kind regards, Redtree21 (talk) 12:31, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again, I see another editor has already responded to your question. My apologies for responding twice, and welcome to Wikipedia! Redtree21 (talk) 12:41, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Redtree21,
Thank you very much.

Hi Firefly2024, I appreciate your edit to Swiss Journal of Economics and Statistics. However I have to ask that you follow Justlettersandnumbers advice of requesting edits using {{Edit COI}}. Thanks Nobody (talk) 05:58, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @1AmNobody24,
Thank you for creating the Wikipedia page for the Journal. Noted.

Firefly2024, do please place a {{paid}} template on your user page as requested (and explained) above before making any further edit relating to that topic. This is not optional, it is required by the Terms of Use of this platform. If you don't know how to do it, ask here! (just to be clear: it doesn't mean you can then go ahead and make changes to the article, you're expected to use the talk-page). Thanks, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 08:56, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Dear @Justlettersandnumbers,
Thank you for your remark. No, I will no longer be participating in the project. Someone has recently created a page for the journal, which was a surprise to the editorial team, but it’s great to see that there is public interest in the journal. I have been assigned different work outside of Wikipedia.
Best regards,
