Introduction to contentious topics

[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to articles about living or recently deceased people, and edits relating to the subject (living or recently deceased) of such biographical articles, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message

[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:54, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Upcoming expiry of your ipblock-exempt right

[edit]

Hi, this is an automated reminder as part of Global reminder bot to let you know that your WP:IPBE right which gave you the ability to bypass IP address blocks will expire on 03:29, 10 December 2024 (UTC). If your IP is still blocked (which you can test by trying to edit when logged-out), please renew by following the instructions at the IPBE page; otherwise, you do not need to do anything. To opt out of user right expiry notifications, add yourself to m:Global reminder bot/Exclusion. Leaderbot (talk) 04:49, 3 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Risker and @AntiCompositeNumber I've just sent my email. I'm still caught in a block, but I only require the IPBE for enwiki, Wiktionary and Commons. If I ever have to connect with a VPN, the IP addresses should route through NordVPN in case they're not already logged as VPNs. Svampesky (talk) 17:45, 7 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Addressed for English Wikipedia. I've forwarded your email to stewards for action on the other projects. Risker (talk) 18:15, 7 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Juesao Junior Military Program

[edit]

Hello Svampesky,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Juesao Junior Military Program for deletion, because it's a redirect from an article title to a namespace that's not for articles.

If you don't want Juesao Junior Military Program to be deleted, you can contest this deletion, but don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!

I've never seen a page/redirect created through draftification tagged for deletion before. They usually just get deleted directly. Svampesky (talk) 16:49, 15 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This redirect was created through draftification. Going forward, I'll tag each mainspace redirect created for deletion to save time, so others don't have to do it. Svampesky (talk) 19:22, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Chris Koclanes

[edit]

Can you manually merge your draft page with Chris Koclanes that I created? Assadzadeh (talk) 21:30, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The page that I moved into the draftspace as Draft:Chris Koclanes was created by you (Special:Permalink/1264831042). I moved it as it was an unreferenced BLP. When I moved the page, I requested the redirect be deleted, which you removed. Svampesky (talk) 21:37, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have since added a reference. Feel free to add to the article. Assadzadeh (talk) 21:56, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You performed a copy-and-paste move on the newly created page by removing the deletion tag of the redirect to the draftspace. I've requested a history merge of the pages. Svampesky (talk) 22:00, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Assadzadeh, the history merge was declined, which means I'm now listed as the page creator, even though it should rightfully be you. I'll try to get this fixed so you're listed as the creator of the article. Svampesky (talk) 20:43, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
it's OK with me if you're listed as the creator. Assadzadeh (talk) 21:31, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The issue has been resolved and you're now listed as the creator. Svampesky (talk) 22:02, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
