New page in Sandbox and other help
Hi Surajt88,
I am new here and am just starting off. I added some information a few days agon that apply to the content just as others have done previously. Now I am getting comments accusing me of spam! All I have done is add to the material as others have done, yet my changes are being deleted. What can I do about this?
I have created a new contribution page in the sandbox, again just as others have done but with original contect, which I am working on. Please could you be kind enough to review it and perhaps provide your thoughts as to why these people are removing my changes and point out anything that I can do to stop this?
Thanks, your help is much appreciated.
Andrew.

- Hello Andrew,
- Welcome to Wikipedia. I have gone through your edits. Your account seems to be used for only adding the link http://www.corsetique.com to corset related articles. I have no idea if you are affiliated with this website and your edits maybe in good faith, but the first impression I got was that of spamming. It may not have been your intention of spamming, but anyway, please go through WP:OTHERSPAM, WP:ELNO and more importantly WP:PROMO.
- And regarding the article you are developing in your userspace, I'm assuming its an article about Corsetique. I did a preliminary web search which did not yield any notable mentions of Corsetique. Articles in Wikipedia require reliable sources. Without reliable sources the article will be speedily deleted (See WP:CSD and WP:ORG). Please use the template below to find reliable sources before moving the article to the mainspace.
- Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL
- Happy editing. Suraj T 05:11, 11 August 2011 (UTC)
Hi Suraj, Many thanks for taking the time to look into this. Firstly please accept my appolgy if I have not done things the right way. My intentions were not to spam. I noticed other link entries on the contributions that I edited, and since those links were no different to the link I placed, I assumed all is OK. For example, hotcorsets.co.uk is a link that someone else has placed, yet it seems it falls under the 'reliable sources' issue. If my understanding is correct, should the hotcorsets.co.uk link, amongst others not be removed also? With regards to contributions in general, I would like to add a contribution for Symington's Corsets as a historic artifact on the subject. Please can you advise if this will be something that will be acceptable to the Wiki policies? Again, thanks for your help.

Copyright concerns
Hi Surajt88, I've been looking at your edits to three articles and I'd like to raise some concerns. In Hypersonic Technology Vehicle 2 [1], Polarizing organic photovoltaics [2] and Sun-free photovoltaics [3] I found and removed multiple instances where you directly copied text from other sources. I used a blanket copyright tag on the last one and opened a thread at the copyright noticeboard so that another admin can look at it, see here. Please be aware that you cannot copy other people's writing, even if you give the source in a footnote, unless you use quotation marks to make clear what is not your own writing - and the amount of text you are copying, even if it was in quotes, would be a copyright violation anyway.
The main relevant policy here is WP:COPYRIGHT, see here, especially at "Using copyrighted work..." You might also find the non-free use and plagiarism guidelines helpful, and our essay on close paraphrasing to be informative.
As I've found problems in the first three articles I checked where you have substantially edited, I'd like to ask you to pause to review the links I've supplied above so that you can better understand our policy on copying. After that review, it would be helpful if you would go back through your article edit history to identify any similar problems and fix or remove them yourself. If you have any questions about this, please post them here. If I can't answer them, I'll do my best to get you to the right resource. Thanks & regards! Franamax (talk) 22:45, 11 August 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Surajt88, I have reviewed some of your articles and share the concerns of Franamax. Please understand that copyright issues are taken rather seriously on wikipedia. This is not to scare you, but to give advice. Please make time to substantially rephrase your contributions which have been copied (with minor modifications) from the sources. Some guidelines can be found in WP:PARAPHRASE. Although we are all volunteers and may not put any time constrains, the earlier this is done, the better it will be for everyone. I have moved four of your articles to your userspace 1 2 3 4, but please rethink all your contributions and do not restrict your revisions to those articles only. Regards. Materialscientist (talk) 03:59, 12 August 2011 (UTC)
I've also blanked Solar–Hydrogen energy cycle and listed it at the WP:CP noticeboard. I seem to be finding problems in all the articles you've created. I've also notified user Moonriddengirl, who is our most knowledgeable copyright person. You can read the thread on her talk page. Franamax (talk) 18:09, 12 August 2011 (UTC)
- Sorry I could not respond earlier. I was a bit busy and could not come online long enough to respond. I have been very much hasty in my edits. I have been copy-pasting for most of the articles I created and I would like to correct my mistakes. Please feel free to move all articles I have created to my user space. I'll check each one, correct and move it back to the mainspace. I'm still busy now and I'll start with this problem later in the day. Thanks. Suraj T 05:56, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks Franamax & Materialscientist for pointing me in the right directions. I would like to apologize for being ignorant and not following the guidelines. I'll rectify all my mistakes step by step. My first efforts in rectifying my mistakes can be found here, which I think I addressed the concern a bit. I had asked Materialscientist here to see if it was ready to be moved. Until I get responses, I'm gonna wait with this article and move on with other articles. Suraj T 11:09, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
- I must say I am not a specialist in setting an "acceptable level of paraphrasing" and thus would appreciate another opinion. I've looked through the dif of the rewrite and it seems Ok to me. Materialscientist (talk) 11:22, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for the opinion. I have asked for opinions from Moonriddengirl here. Think it'll be better to wait for a response from her before moving the page. Suraj T 11:28, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
- I would like more opinions on Mchip and Hypersonic Technology Vehicle 2. Thanks. Suraj T 12:09, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
- Hi. :) I hope that this is where you wanted feedback. I've compared Mchip to the two articles tagged, and it looks good to me. I've not had time to look at the other one, I'm afraid. I'll try to remember to do it later (probably tomorrow morning) if nobody else does before then, but if I forget, please feel free to drop a reminder on my talk page. Thanks for working on these. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 13:21, 16 August 2011 (UTC)

Hi. I've glanced at User:Surajt88/Hypersonic Technology Vehicle 2. I'm sorry to say that I don't have time this morning to give it the full attention that it needs. :/ Again, if nobody else looks at it first, I'll try to make putting more time into it a priority, though week days are challenging for me to balance volunteerism and work. :)
I did notice that there is still some duplication with the Sydney Morning Herald, although I don't believe it is extensive. That paper says, "At its top speed it could travel the 17,000 kilometres between London and Sydney in about 49 minutes". The article says, "It has been estimated that at its top speed, the Falcon Hypersonic Technology Vehicle 2 could travel the 17,000 kilometres between London and Sydney in about 49 minutes"
With a small amount of text like this, you generally can come pretty close to the source, but it is generally recommended that you either formulate it as a direct quote:
- According to The Sydney Morning Herald, "at its top speed it could travel the 17,000 kilometres between London and Sydney in about 49 minutes"
or that you provide WP:INTEXT attribution for a paraphrase:
- The Sydney Morning Herald notes that when flying its fastest the craft could cover 17,000 kilometres--the distance between London and Sydney--in 49 minutes.
I think that you are very much on the right track here, and let me note again that I appreciate your working on this. People can become discouraged in this situation, and I understand that it is a challenge adapting to Wikipedia culture. I always appreciate and admire people who rise to the occasion. :)
I will get back to this. Promise. :) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 13:56, 17 August 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for your advice. I've modified the phrase as you mentioned above. Thanks for your compliments and there's no question of being discouraged. I love Wikipedia too much to leave under any circumstances. Cheers. Suraj T 04:18, 19 August 2011 (UTC)
- I've had a chance to look through the rest of the article. I made one small alteration, but I think that aside from that the rest is okay. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 16:05, 21 August 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks. I've moved Polarizing organic photovoltaics & Sun-free photovoltaics in addition to Hypersonic Technology Vehicle 2 as I've done similar work in those articles. Suraj T 04:36, 24 August 2011 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Pale Blue Dot/GA1
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Pale Blue Dot/GA1 requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, a rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Gurt Posh (talk) 13:27, 25 August 2011 (UTC)
Hi. Sorry for the delay in my response; I'm afraid I had a rather busy work week. :/ We are not really supposed to move copyright problems into user space, but I certainly do think that you can use the time well to rewrite it. What I've done is restore it at the point where it originally existed, which will give you another week to work on it. The template itself contains a link to the proper work space, but you can also get there just by clicking here.
Please don't copy content from the first version of the article. This is a common mistake people make in rewriting articles. The problem is that when content is incrementally altered like that, we run a real risk of creative a "derivative work", so frequently we can't accept rewrites of that nature. :) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 13:25, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks. I have started with the article here. I expect to finish with it in a couple of days. Suraj T 12:25, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
