Copy-and-paste page moving

Hello, Sundostund. Thank you for taking the time to edit Wikipedia; I am very happy to see that you are enthusiastic about improving the encyclopedia. I am concerned about your recent edits, ostensibly to rename the pages List of governors-general of India and List of governors of Andhra Pradesh. On Wikipedia, you should never rename a page by copying and pasting the contents of an article to a different title. This makes it impossible to track the revision history over time. Instead you should always use the "Move" button (located in the dropdown box by the bar where the edit button is). If there is a redirect in the way, go to the redirect page and add {{db-move|current name of page|reason to move}} to it. However, in this case there may be a pre-existing consensus for, e.g., having lists treat "governor" as a common noun rather than a proper noun, so I would recommend seeking consensus through the Requested Moves process. Opposition Leaders in Rhodesia

I spotted your post on various noticeboards about the Leaders of the Opposition in Rhodesia. Fortunately I can get to the Hansard record of debates in the Southern Rhodesia Legislative Assembly and the later UDI Rhodesian Parliament which is a good source for who was recognised. The first point to observe is that the post of Leader of the Opposition was only ever unofficially recognised. In the UK the post was only officially recognised and paid a salary in 1937; Rhodesia never seems to have made any moves to do so. The unofficial recognition was dependent on circumstances as sometimes there were almost no opposition members. That being said, the situation appears to have been as follows:

1928-33: Hon Robert Gilchrist (Progressive Party/Reform Party)

1933-34: Hon Percy Finn (Rhodesia Party) - subsequently none when the Rhodesia Party merged with the Reform Party

1934-40: Harry Davies (Rhodesia Labour Party) - may have ended in 1939 when he accepted Huggins's invitation to him to join the government

1940-46: Donald Macintyre (Rhodesia Labour Party)

1946-48: Hon Jacob Smit (Southern Rhodesia Liberal Party)

1948-54: Raymond Stockil (Southern Rhodesia Liberal Party, although it appears the party fell apart during this assembly)

In the 1954 election, the only opposition members elected were Independents. No Leader of the Opposition was recognised, although Raymond Stockil and Stewart Aitken-Cade seemed to be recognised as having a leadership role.

1958-59: Raymond Stockil (Dominion Party)

1959-60: Stewart Aitken-Cade (Dominion Party)

1960-62: William Harper (Dominion Party)

1962: William Cary (Dominion Party)

1962-65: Sir Edgar Whitehead (United Federal Party)

1965: David Butler (United Federal Party)

At the 1965 election, the Rhodesian Front won all of the 50 constituencies with a mostly white electorate, and the Rhodesia Party opposition won only in the districts which had a mostly black electorate. As a result the Rhodesia Party soon dissolved and had itself replaced by an African opposition party.

1965-67: Josiah Gondo (Rhodesia Party/United People's Party)

1967-69: Percy Mkudu (United People's Party)

1969-70: Chad Chipunza (United People's Party)

At the 1970 election, the electoral system changed. Although the African MPs formed themselves into parties, the Rhodesian Front government declined to recognise any of them as the formal Opposition and therefore did not have a Leader of the Opposition. There was a white opposition party, the Rhodesia Party formed by Rhodesian Front defector Allan Savory MP in 1972, but he was not recognised as Leader of the Opposition either. Neither was the Rhodesian Action Party recognised as the lead Opposition party when formed in 1977 - instead the Rhodesian Front government dissolved Parliament.

• M. C. Steele, "White Working Class Disunity: the Southern Rhodesia Labour Party", Rhodesian History, vol 1, 1970 (article in historical journal, very useful in explaining what happened in 1940-45)
• Hon. A.R.W. Stumbles, "Some Recollections of a Rhodesian Speaker", Books of Rhodesia, 1980

Help with translation

Hello Sundostund. Could you help me briefly - I'm transcribing the results of the Republika Srpska general election, 2014, and am slightly confused by the results given on this page, specifically the invalid votes section. Translating "Nevažeći po drugim kriterijima" and "Ukupno nevažećih praznih listića" on Google gives "Invalid by other criteria" and "Total of blank ballots invalid"

Are the two rows separate figures for blank and invalid votes, and should be totalled to get the overall figure, or is the second one actually the total of all blank and invalid votes (which includes the first one)? Cheers, Number 57 23:13, 7 November 2014 (UTC)

Democratic Party in the CSA

I reverted your edit regarding the political party of Jefferson Davis. While he was certainly a Democrat before the Civil War, this was not the case during the war. I assume your edit was a good faith effort, but reliable source on the politics of the CSA emphasize the lack of political parties in the CSA. List of chairmen of the Verkhovna Rada

Oleksandr Turchynov did not represent People's Front in parliament before November 27. Technically he was an independent representative of Batkivshchyna.

I think you're wrong. Turchynov is mentioned as one of the founding members of People's Front, according to this source (), so its quite logical that he represented it in the Parliament before November 27... You do not understand. You see, People's Front never participated in 2012 elections, nor there was a political group (faction or deputy group) in the Ukrainian parliament. Therefore officially he was member of political party People's Party, but in parliament he continued to be a non-partisan representative of Batkivshchyna. Do you understand? You probably not familiar with Ukrainian parliamentary regulations as well. According to regulations, members of presidium such as chairperson and his or her deputies have to be independent politicians. Usually a chairperson is a representative of the biggest parliamentary faction in parliament and one of his deputies is a representative of opposition. Turchynov switched his party affiliation during his term as chairman, and it must be noted in the list. As of 10 September, he clearly became one of the leading figures of the People's Front (source which I showed to you clearly proves that), and he broke off his affiliation with Batkivshchyna. I say again. According to Ukrainian parliamentary regulations, chairpersons of Ukrainian parliament are independent politicians. I know that he switched his political affiliation. But being as a chairman he cannot be affiliated with any political party. Look at the website of the Ukrainian parliament, any person of presidium is listed as independent politician. Of course, he can join other parties that are not represented in parliament, but for a given convocation he would still be qualified as a member of the party he was elected. Again, we can't claim something which isn't true. He wasn't affiliated with Batkivshchyna after 10 September, in the same way as Yatsenyuk and Avakov. They broke off, and found a new party. It would be a serious misleading of our readers if we left a claim in the list that he was affiliated with Batkivshchyna until November. Each People's Deputy of Ukraine after being elected to parliament, is being registered with the Central Election Commission. He or she gets issued a MP's card with which the deputy votes. With the Central Election Commission also there is registered any political parties that pass the election threshold on the party list voting. Such parties are allowed to form their own political factions. Members of other parties are given a choice to stay independent, join political faction or create a political deputy group along with members of other party. As I mentioned before, in the 2012-2014 parliament there was no such political faction nor political deputy group like People's Front. If you would browser the website of Ukrainian parliament for members of 2012-2014 convocation, Turchynov is listed as a member of Batkivshchyna and Batkivshchyna only.
