Please do not add or significantly change content without citing verifiable and reliable sources, as you did with this edit to Street running. Before making any potentially controversial edits, it is recommended that you discuss them first on the article's talk page. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Jim1138 (talk) 07:56, 9 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't do that

[edit]

It is disruptive 1) adding text after a section header "breaks" it. 2) Don't use wp:allcaps. Thank you Jim1138 (talk) 08:12, 9 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Adding references is how we ensure that content is valid. Without references, a reader can not easily validate information and there is no presumption of accuracy. See Help:Referencing for beginners and Help:footnotes. There is a tool that can help: See wp:RefToolbar/2.0. This is covered by the Wikipedia policy of wp:verifiability (WP:V). Seen these, I presume?

Possible reference

[edit]

Great idea - satellite view might be the answer! I added a reference to Street running here. I presume you know how to get coordinates from Google Maps? Right click on the center of the coords you wish to obtain and select "What's here?" (not sure what that would say in Dutch) A pop-up appears at the bottom of the page with the coordinates. If you click on that, they appear in the search box. Copy the decimal format (i.e. "-23.376492, 150.507336") and not the D:M:S format (i.e. "23°22'35.4"S 150°30'26.4"E") as it is easier to add. Just copy the ref: <ref>Street running railroad on Denison Street in Rockhampton, Queensland {{coord|-23.376492|150.507336|scale:500}}</ref> You can change the wording, just so people can understand what they are clicking on. See the wp:template {{coords}} for more info. The Dutch Wiki template is a bit different: nl:Sjabloon:Coor_title_dms so much won't apply. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 20:30, 12 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Re : unfortunately i do not know how to come to my talk page . And i know nothing about coördinates . But if someone will do this , it will be fine . But i point it out : satelite view and Google maps are not always actual too !! And Google maps shows not all street-tracks . By satelite you can more discover ! You should learn about geographic coordinates. I presume you know there are 360° (360 degrees)) in a circle. It's based on that. Coordinates can be quite useful! nl:Geografische coördinaten en:Geographic coordinate system Latitude goes from zero at the equator to 90° at the north pole and -90° the south pole. Longitude is zero at Greenwich, England and west-ward is positive 180° and eastward is negative -180° You can specify a any point on the Earth within millimeters!

I would think that a satellite view is sufficient. If you can see it on Google satellite view, it must be real! (Just kidding) As an example:

  1. Find a good satellite view of street tracks.
  2. Such as: This Google satellite view
  3. Right-click on the center of a good view.
  4. One of the options (at least in the English version) is "What's here?" - select that
  5. Coordinates will appear at the bottom: In this case "Rockhampton City Queensland 4700 -23.376492,150.507336"
  6. Click on the coordinates and they appear in the "Search Google maps" box
  7. Copy the coordinates and insert the first (latitude) into the entry just after the coord, and the second (longitude) into the second
  8. {{coord | latitude goes here | longitude goes here | scale:500 }} Leave the scale to 500
  9. So it becomes {{coord |-23.376492 | 150.507336 | scale:500}} remember to leave in the minus sign, if they are there or you will be off by thousands of kilometers! # Inserted, they become: <nowiki>{{coord|-23.376492|150.507336|scale:500}} or 23°22′35″S 150°30′26″E / 23.376492°S 150.507336°E / -23.376492; 150.507336
  10. Then add a description to the coordinates: Street running railroad on Denison Street in Rockhampton, Queensland 23°22′35″S 150°30′26″E / 23.376492°S 150.507336°E / -23.376492; 150.507336
  11. Place that just after the information you added to street running "* Rockhampton, Queensland<ref>Denison Street in Rockhampton, Queensland {{coord|-23.376492|150.507336|scale:500}}</ref></nowiki # Use [[wp:Show preview]] to make sure it is working correctly. Personally, I right-click on the link and open in a new tab. Otherwise I would loose my changes Try exprimenting in your sandbox: click "Sandbox" at the top right of your browser window. You can experiment and do a "Save changes" without messing anything up (except your own work!) It's a few steps, but I would be willing to work you through it. If you want, you could give me a link to a google map and I would add the reference. Jim1138 (talk) 08:03, 15 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
