kilt edits

[edit]

Hi, i noticed your edits to the kilt and history of the kilt articles. I undid those changes because i think the reference you cited is outdated and probably considered pretty unreliable. I made a note here: Talk:History of the kilt.--Celtus (talk) 06:49, 21 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

First of all, do you understand Scottish Gaelic? I think it's quite clear that you don't, as the article may be old, but the evidence cited in it, is incontrovertible. THe royal seals of these kings show them wearing the kilt, Alasdair I, David I and Calum IV. This is far greater and much more precise evidence than any of the second-hand evidence cited from more recent anglo-centric publications that is being used to prop up the untrue claims that the kilt originates from the 16th century. Why would you remove the truth, one wonders?--Steafan31 (talk) 13:25, 21 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The seals might be evidence, but the newspaper clipping isn't necessarily-- it's just someone's assertion. Whether it's old and whether it's in Gaelic is neither here nor there. Anyway, I looked up the seals in question, and they don't show kilts-- please see my comments over at Talk:History of the kilt. AFAIK, there's still no evidence for Scottish kilts before the late 16th century. Beastiepaws (talk) 00:40, 7 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
