Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]Hello, Srinidhi Varadarajan. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization, clients, or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{edit COI}} template), including links or details of reliable sources that support your suggestions;
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest § How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam § External link spamming);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicizing, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. MrOllie (talk) 00:38, 14 December 2024 (UTC)
- Hi,
- I was merely writing here to correct the historical record, that I have been here in the beginnings of anti-virus software with published references. My edits simply state history, I am not associated in any commercial way with anything I mention since they represent history from thirty five years ago. I am adding to historical record with references from that period, and am happy to introduce you to references from that period, none of whom I am promoting. I am also very familiar with who was before me in 1989 and what I saw and tested in those years. ISBN: 978-0074633663, by Saumil Shah walks through the period through 1996 and my reference includes the major national newspaper's article from that time - "PC wizard's Gujarat connection | Ahmedabad News - Times of India". Also, I am not promoting anyone here, and I do not have any social media at all to benefit from the current age. Incidentally, Bontchev, from before me was credited with the Dark Avenger virus, which I believe he had nothing to do with, and I was the one of the many that deal with it, reversed it, and removed it, which was my own start.
- I am an ex professor and relatively reclusive, so I will quote my sources. If after all this effort, basic history can't be corrected with references, well, I have lessons to learn on academic integrity or lack thereof. Interestingly, Wiki has wiped out quite large parts of my life, including building the world's third fastest supercomputer.
- Cheers

- Writing about yourself in an article is the exact meaning of a conflict of interest. You can use the
{{edit COI}}
template on a talk page to suggest changes to the page when the changes are about you. win8x (talk) 01:13, 14 December 2024 (UTC)- Thanks for this suggestion. I was not familiar with this definition of COI.
- I was attempting to correct the record with references - please check them if you wish and then search through and get to a linkedin. Eventually there is referential integrity - I am not trying to game the system, I have a record that Wiki actually wiped out and I am good with it. Maybe I can pique your interest to look - search for my name, Apple and System X and please go down the rabbit hole - System X Top500 Supercomputers, 2003. I am not attempting in any way to hide who I am - it is basic academic integrity. Either you can help me with reporting the correct historical record, after you have cross checked it, with references or you cannot and history is another incomplete view :-).
- Cheers

- And just to be clear, if you are publicly referenceable as yourself, that wikipedia has missed, apparently the public referenceability by newspaper articles or ISBN books is not sufficient if you point it out yourself with said references. I am sorry, but that is well beyond academic integrity that I have lived through and fundamentally raises questions of who like me chose not to talk to you that has far greater achievements than I.
- your process is not academically honest, while your intentions are. your goal, should be to get to historical truth you document. It appears to be mired in your own process, that cannot even look past its own nose to search for evidence given.
- Pardon my disillusion.
