Kloudova vs Vavrova
[edit]Hello SportsOlympic. I see that you created a redirect from Marcela Vavrova to Marcela Kloudova. Because of the merging of the profiles at Speedskatingnews.info. But the update there at Speedskatingnews.info are coming from Preben Gorud Petersen (just asked him through a norwegian speed skating forum at facebook) and he is still keeping them apart as two separate speed skaters since the merging have no other sources than it is a possible same skater but no clear sources that says so. So I would like to see clearer source that this is the same skater and not just an assumption that it is. BTW. I will not merge these profiles at norwegian wikipedia yet, and will wait for more sources. Best regards Migrant (talk) 18:29, 7 April 2020 (UTC)

- @Migrant, again thanks! I will take a look at it. I'm planning to create a few hundreds more female speed skating articles this year. I already created many articles of skaters who competed at the early World Allround Speed Skating Championships or won a medal at the Norwegian Allround Championships (including around 25 Norwegian) :) SportsOlympic (talk) 07:39, 8 April 2020 (UTC)

- O, and by-the-way, maybe you know. I noticed at speedskatingstats.com all the day of births of all skaters are not visible. Do you know how to find them? For instance for Sylvia Karlsson: link? SportsOlympic (talk) 10:01, 9 April 2020 (UTC)
- If the birthday is not published it is okay just include what the sources say, so if it only gives the birthmonth, then use the birthmonth. You mean this link for Sylvia Karlsson at Speedskatingstats.com/Schaaatsstatistieken.nl. You can of course add the wikipedia-article to Wikidata yourself if you know how to do it.
- For the best database of personal records I would prefer the Speedskatingbase.eu-website, since the Speedskatingnews.info isn't complete and in some cases uses the best times that are registered in an event they have.
- Here is a list of useful speedskatingdatabases that I'm using myself:
- www.Speedskatingbase.eu for personal records and month-year of birth (Dutch-based database).
- SpeedSkatingNews.info for speed skater profiles (Germany-based database with some international help).
- www.SpeedSkatingStats.com (English) / www.schaatsstatistieken.nl (Dutch) for results and (month-)year of birth if known (Dutch-based database) The dutch-database are a mirror the english one but the dutch-language base have more on the dutch skaters and also the dutch championships.
- SpeedskatingResults.com for newer profiles/results from 2006/07-season (USA-based database most probably Salt Lake City, Utah).
- Jakub Majerski's speedskating database for personal records and birthdays (Polish-based database).
- Biographies på www.isu.html.infostradasports.com.
- See also the Results-database for older profiles at the same website which is the website for International Skating Union.
- www.The-Sports.org for some results and profiles, this database has several language-versions. Some results are incomplete since some skaters didn't finish their races or other reasons and therefore are not included. There are also some profiles with several profiles because of name spellings, and of course from different sports.
- Here is a list of useful speedskatingdatabases that I'm using myself:
- Please don't rely on one source alone, be critical of each source, judge them by their specialty and focus and what's not their specialty or focus.
- And of course there are also the Sports-reference.com, Olympic.org and OlympicChannel.com websites for olympic athletes.

The Manual of Style is absolutely unconditional on this matter: "If a person has a common English-language hypocorism (diminutive or abbreviation) used in lieu of a given name, it is not presented between quotation marks or parentheses within or after their name". "Rik" is clearly a diminutive of "Frederik", and must not be included in the opening sentence. WWGB (talk) 11:43, 18 April 2020 (UTC)
- @WWGB: I know it’s common in the UK that everybody who is called Kim, is officially Kimberly and everybody who is called Lizzy is Elizabeth etc. That is not the case in the Netherlands. Translations
[edit]Hi SportsOlympic, I notice you have created some articles here which are translations on the articles on the Dutch Wikipedia, but without noting this in the edit summary or on the talk page of the article (e.g. Roland Phleps, Radboud van Beekum. Please see WP:TFOLWP for an explanation of what you have to do in these cases. Note that this is mandatory, we have to attribute the original creators of content, even for a translation. Could you please go back to articles you translated (partially or completely) and add the necessary indications? And of course for future such creations, please do this from the start.
On another note, here you are wrong, whether a page is translated or not has no bearing on the need for sources here, on enwiki. Furthermore, until then Martine Crefcoeur had no indication at all that it was a translated page in the first place. Fram (talk) 11:41, 28 April 2020 (UTC)

- @Fram:, no problem, and indeed it's small. Thank you for being keen on it! That's a great value for Wikipedia. Speaking about translating, I just created Bas Brederode using the Special:ContentTranslation (first time I used it). However, after publishing it, there is not an indication that the page is translated (and not a warning that it should be mentioned somewhere). If you see the edit summary, it's not clear the page is translated from the Dutch WP. So (almost) all pages that are already or will be created with this tool, won't have the correct translation indication. SportsOlympic (talk) 13:41, 28 April 2020 (UTC)

Ko Kwang-za World ranking info
[edit]Hello SportsOlympic. I just saw that you expanded the speed skater biography of the North-Korean speed skater Ko Kwang-za, with this sentence: ″In December 1969 she set her 500m personal best in her home country in Pujon and with this time of 45,3 seconds she was fourth in the 500m season world ranking list.″ but that is not entirely correct, since it is a dated rankinglist at the time of the season so the rest of the season are not included yet. The end of the season ranking is at 5. april 1970: Sesongslutt 1970 (title translated to: 5 April 1970: End of Season 1970) and that one shows she just fell out of top-30 in the 500 meter-ranking. About the same article I see that you also added an image of a group of speed skaters, but I think now that it is not depicting the correct skaters mentioned. I would disregard the added text on commons related to the linked picture there and that is a picture of 3 recognised dutch female skaters and when I look at it, the fourth you seem to have identifies as Ko Kwang-za are rather another dutch female skater with the name of Wil Burgmeijer which also participated at the same event. And it would also to me be a little awkward to picture 3 dutch speed skating ladies with their coach/trainer and a North Korean speed skater who came dead last in the competition and leave out the forth dutch skater in the team ? - To be clear, I didn't identify her. That was done by the press (Ron Groot) at the time, donated from the "Nationaal Archief" at Wikipedia. But yes, I also wondered why she is on the image. - @Migrant:, I see my previous answer was very short, as I didn't have much time. I started doing my homework, studying the images. Several captions are not correct, I notice for the ones where " nummer X" is mentioned in the title. For instance this one. So yes, you are right that the image is not Ko Kwang-za. But I noticed that every person is wearing a number. Also, the same person is wearing the same number over the different days. The numbers are sorted by country.
- NETHERLANDS: Kaiser: 22, Geijssen: 23, Schut: 24, (So Burgmeijer (NED): 21 or 24?)
- SOVIET UNION: Skoblikova: 34, Stenina: 33, Sablina: 37
- NORTH KOREA: Kim Song-sun: 19, Ko Kyung-hi: 21. (The lady with number 20 has no name --> Han Pil-hwa, or Ko Kwang-za; the other skater is on this image as she has different laces as the other three.
Now the question: is there a logic regarding the numbers within one country? It not in alphabetical order of the name, or surename. So probably the order how the skaters are entered, decides the number. With the entrants list in a newspaper here, this looks liks the order. So that means Burgmeijer (NED) had number 25, Han Pil-wha (North-Korea) number 18, Ko Kwang-za number 20, Kauniste (Soviet Union) number 35, Egorova (Soviet Union) number 36,
So this skater is Ko Kwang-za and this skater is Han Pil-hwa. This is Lasma Kauniste (Soviet Union).

Animals in Deaths in 2020
[edit]Hi. One of the consensual stipulations for including animals in the list above is that they don't get the 30 days grace for an article - they must already have an article directly about them. - You can see it in the reference. It’s not the case for Loltje de Boer. According to the source she is born in 1911. However, I was able to find the original birth certificate, indicating 1910. I have removed the speedy nomination, as she is notable (as are many important voice actors in France). Having said that, I can understand the speedy nomination, as the article had no source indicating this notability at all, just some databases and the dubious looking soap-passion site. I have replaced this with a full article in Le Figaro, you could probably also use this one. If you had included in the article that she was the voice of Vanellope in the Wreck-it-Ralh movies (French versions hein), it might have helped as well. - I'm not that familiar with how things are done here, since most of my edits are done at the norwegian wikipedia, commons and at wikidata, I'm not sure how to solve this internal linking needs for the speed skater biography-articles created by you. But maybe make them as draft article stubs with some similar short descriptions lead-ins, and or a collapsed table with main heading within the same article as now but with a little longer explainable heading in a lower of level headings. Found >500 hits (sum of these 240 newspapers and these 308 newspapers) where she is mentioned in Dutch newspapers. 10 examples where the title in the newspaper is about her: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10. I would just give a source in norwegian (https://www.adressa.no/nyheter/article686956.ece) for her reletively famous husband and 3 of her 5 known children. Including 2 norwegian female figure skaters with national championship medal at senior-level and a norwegian male ice hockey player in the top league in Norway. - The linked .pdf-file has a little statistical false info on who was the oldest world allround participant for Norway, but that has been forwarded by med to the one who takes care of the lists at Norwegian Skating Association (english name)/Norges Skøyteforbund (norwegian name). It seems that it is Charles Mathiesen who was the eldest participant at the world allround for norway, but I do believe it is Sverre Aune. And the person that is taking care of the stats-list said he would take a look at it in the upcoming days, not tomorrow, but later he promised me. Tietje Spannenburg-Pagels, and Oudega
[edit]Do you know in which of the three places called Oudega, all in Friesland, it was where Tietje Spannenburg-Pagels won her race in 1929? A Dutch friend (not a WP editor) and I have managed to solve several puzzles on that page (including WP:BOLD guesses for Sloten and for Makkum). Oudega is not so easy.

- Thank you! I imagine that contemporary records may just say "Oudega" - because everyone knew that's where races were held when the ice was thick enough.
- Do you speak Dutch, or even Frysk? Because the Wikipedia Project would benefit by having articles about Tietje in those languages. If she has living relatives, that's where they should be able to find her. It's much easier to translate into your native language than out of it. (I wrote Johan Hendrik van Dale because my friend Willeke talked me into it.)
- If you do write any parallel articles, be sure to make InterWiki language links (see that van Dale article for an example - bottom of left-hand column). (My hobby is fixing links to DAB pages; and on non-English-language topics, the article in the home language is the first place I look. There's often more, or better, detail there.) They're less than 15km apart - and Oudega is on a polder, and very near places where we know she raced, such as IJlst and Sneek. Yesterday evening I searched into the 1000s of hits of Antje Hokstra at Delpher and I selected the 5 best articles to start writing the article. For instance an article about her first races, several races she won and her marriage. So for me it would be great if I can get back those links, otherwise I have to do the search again. Even while I was contesting and I was indicating it's a Delpher,link, a media website that even has an English Wikipedia page. But thanks for restoring. I'll improve the links, but note she is stil in draft space and under construction. I don't know why she doesn't have a nl-page, you should ask the people there. What I see is that nl.wiki are most focussed on the recent speed skaters. Articles I created about famous 19th-century Dutch speed skaters; >90% isn't at nl.wiki (Houkje Gerrits Bouma, Trijntje Reidinga, Anke Beenen, Jeltje van der Werf, Ynskje Wagenaar, Lutske Wester, Gelske Venema-Brouwe, Joukje Postma, Sytske Spijkstra, Baukje de Boer-Veenstra). But also for instance Jan van de Roemer, who died two weeks ago (that was in de media), doesn't have a nl page. The point is that it's difficult to say whether your sources are good enough because you are not citing them properly. You should at least name the newspaper instead of just referencing a search engine. We already have no idea of the status of these individual competitions - they could just be small local events or major competitions. [edit]Hello! Thanks for all your contributions. I did notice that some of them use bare URLS without the title and author, which is less than desirable as the URL sometimes disappears later down the road. There is an excellent tool called the RefToolbar that expands bare URLS. You put the URL in the URL spot, then click the magnifying glass and it completes the URL. But when you are creating categories at wikimedia.commons I would very much like that you also add the template Commons:Template:Wikidata Infobox like i did in this edit and this edit and then it will add on some more basic categories to your newly created category when it also have been linked to wikidata. And if you also add the profile picture in wikidata (like I did here for Synnøve Lie) it will show up in this wikidata infobox and also at some wikipedia-articles that gets their profile-picture directly from wikidata, like the pl:Synnøve Lie and at ru:Ли, Синнуве and also at the norwegian wikipedia. It's just when I seee soome, I will do it. I would like to add the >1000 images that can be uploaded of speed skaters and Olympic athletes but I won't have the time for it. It costs a lot of work with downloading, cutting, cropping, uploading, adding description etc. And because I just see it as something "extra"to upload the images, I am not going to invest a lot of time in it. - Great! I just would like to explain to you the reason that there is a very different amount of information in the Wikidata Infobox-template in your newly created category (Commons:Category:Elly Taconis) than in the older one like this Commons:Category:Liselotte Landbeck are because of the amount of Property/Statements and Identifier-links in their Wikidata-item. And if you also add the given name, the surname, the birthyear/date and if the person is deceased also the deathyear/date it will show up automaticly as a category through the Wikidata Infobox-template. And the birthyear/date and if appropriate also the deathyear/date will show up in some wikipedia's for those wikipedias that are getting this and some other statements directly from the wikidata-item. Some wikipedia's do require a reference to be included at wikidata to transfer them in their local infobox like for instance the english Template:Infobox person/Wikidata and Template:Infobox sportsperson/Wikidata. But since I haven't been writing a lot in this wikipedia-language (I'm mostly on the Norwegian Bokmål-edition of wikipedia), I haven't tried it all by myself here yet. - @Possibly:, It’s a WP:stub “an article deemed too short to provide encyclopedic coverage of a subject”. The person is a recognized art historian and the article has an good quality secondary source. In this case a “single source tag” would have been appropriate. - Have you noticed the dozen or more draftify, prod or AFD notices on your talk page above, in just the last month? Does it tell you anything? I am actually a big fan of stubs: I have created something like 400 stub-length articles on women artists, and zero have been deleted. This is because I make sure they are well sourced and meet notability guidelines. This saves time, as other users do not consume their time going through the deletion process with my work. Articles like Ulrike Gauss end up having to be fixed by other editors. I just trimmed half of it because the claims that she was a professor and that she won a prize were not in the single source given. - @Possibly: I like to create stubs of people who are notable local or people who are notable by meeting GNG (for instance Jan Geersing, Ingrid Schultheiß, Melissa Kremer, Blanquita Valenti, [[Albert Levy Themans). I noticed that many editors don’t like those local people on Wikipedia and nominate it for deletion. Some even said a stub of a local person meeting GNG should not be created. You say “ end up having to be fixed by other editors”, so you assume that I don’t fix myself. If you made inline tags the tings you noticed I would improve it myself. - @SportsOlympic: I don't think it's that people are against articles on local personalities, but rather that people are against poorly sourced articles. If you had stronger sourcing, say three good sources per article, you would have very few of the PROD/AFD/Draftify notices above. If you can get really good at making articles that don't require reviews (well sourced, no tags necessary, subject clearly notable), you can apply for the autopatrolled permission, which means your articles are automatically reviewed. Learning how to make stronger articles notability-wise is a good thing, as it helps to reduce the reviewer workload. It also makes your life happier as you won't be getting so many notices. And it all starts with three good sources. You could ask, is it better to launch ten boats with holes in them, or five very solid boats? Hope that helps.--- Possibly (talk) 21:37, 18 April 2021 (UTC)

And to that I can inform you about these sources: List of newspaper archives#Norway, and to that list first point I can add that of all the newspaper that are archived are not all that existed of the time, so it is not a complete archive of newspapers in Norway. But the sources at Nasjonalbiblioteket/National Library of Norway do have som geopreferences for accessibility, not all documents are readable for IP-adresses outside of Norway and some are even more restricted to be read at an actual library in real life. SpeedSkatingNews.info and norwegian speed skating
[edit]Hello SportsOlympic. I must make a comment about your use and mentioning of the SpeedSkatingNews.info (SSN) website. It may look complete, but it isn't really all complete and it probably never will. The database at that website are still the most complete online public database there is for speed skating results.
See this F.A.Q. – Frequently Asked Questions with this qoute:
- «Where did all the information come from?
- Most of the data come from the official competition protocolls and are send to us by the organizers itself. We obtain these protocols. Older competitions are determined by investigation in the Federal Archives or directly from the clubs. The majority of the data is included in the database of the WSSSA (World Speed Skating Statistician Association).»
- My comments: And since this database got its own web-domain in december 2009 after its separation from DESG ( https://www.desg.de/ ), it is naturally not up-to-date with absolute all the older speed skating events, especially the local ones and also some other types of events like for instance the Speed skating at the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival (2001-edition), but the 1997-edition are still missing. Another reason not trusting the completeness of the website is because the database is also relying on speed skating organizers to sending over their results. By the way I, myself did inform the database-people of the correct track-records of my local speed skating rink Hvitstein Stadion – Holmestrand (no:Hvitstein stadion, nl:Hvitstein stadion ). And if you look at the season-results at that speed skating track which mentions the club-skating events named: «Poengløp» was arranged most of the seasons since the no:Holmestrand og Botne Skøyteklubb were established in december 1957, and as you see those results are mostly missing from the earlier years. My younger brothers Ingar and Arild Skillinghaug did compete alongside me in these club-competition from the early 1980's and until the 1994-olympic season, and I don't have any recorded result at the database (mostly because these races aren't recorded in that database, and I only did my races in those competitions, and I wasn't a good speed skater either, only one that tagged along my brothers, which took the sport more serious than me).

The relay-championships in Norway (no:Mal:Norske mesterskap i hurtigløp på skøyter, no:NM på skøyter, stafett and no:NM på skøyter, maraton) aren't in the database.
PS. For the norwegian national speed skating championships I do have in physical copy the Norske Mesterskap på skøyter 1894 - 2005 which is the 3rd edition. I do also own a 2nd edition in physical copy which has the title: Norske Mesterskap på skøyter 1887 - 1989. The 2nd edition includes the unofficial ones from before the Norwegian Skating Association was established. Although this Oslo SK club was established, so some organisers were available.

Also on a similar note, this is for your education. Towards the end of your CA Wylie post (Wikidata reports) on the May talk page of Deaths in 2021, your use of the word "no" is not correct. No is the opposite of yes, among other things, and the word you should have used is "know" (also pronounced "no"). For example, to know something or someone, as in knowledge (pronounced nolledge).
