Sources and edit summaries

[edit]

Hello. Can you please cite sources when you add content to articles? Presumably you are getting all this speedway information from somewhere. Could you also use edit summaries to help other editors know what changes you have made? Thanks. --Michig (talk) 15:02, 5 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of King's lynn young stars

[edit]

Hello SpeedwayInfo,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged King's lynn young stars for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Trivialist (talk) 21:22, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The Indoor league

[edit]

Hi

Thanks for going through and adding the winners and matches of the indoor league Darts.

Do you by any chance have the episodes, im looking for them myself and Im only able to update once they come on Frontrunner on TV (which is never in order) — Preceding unsigned comment added by CreamyGoodne55 (talkcontribs) 15:55, 18 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks for your message.

Like you I have been updating the Indoor League wikipedia page after watching the episodes of the programme on FrontRunner TV, although when I was a child I did watch them when they were originally broadcast during lunchtime from school.

The other information I have put on this page comes from numerous copies of the TV Times listing magazine from the time that I have on PDF files.

I currently have 48 out of the 72 transmitted episodes recorded for my own personal use. The first two series in full are available to purchase in the UK on DVD from places such as Amazon.

I now that the way that FrontRuner TV transmit the episodes of Indoor League out of sync is a real pain because of this is really a case of watching as many as possible to gain the information that you require.SpeedwayInfo (talk) 09:59, 20 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Speedway Info, thanks for the edits. A little confused about the Division Two Knockout Cup 1980-1996 edit however. I will list them as this but feel free to let me know if I have missed anything. I am in the process of adding each cup on each relevant season page as well. Hello SpeedwayInfo. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, and that you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially egregious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to Black hat SEO.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists, and if it does not, from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:SpeedwayInfo. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=SpeedwayInfo|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, please do not edit further until you answer this message. Longhair\talk 15:00, 11 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

An article you recently created, SGB Championship 2019, falls afoul of Wikipedia isn't a crystal ball. The Championship hasn't happened yet, please wait until event happens before submitting again. I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. I will continue to update this page in draft form and re-submit it in February 2019 in time for the start of the season in March 2019.

I will continue to update this page in draft form and re-submit it in February 2019 in time for the start of the season in March 2019.

I developed this page relating to my favourite sport of speedway prior anyone else on Wikipedia and and in previous seasons I will update this page regularly with the correct information.

Today, I noticed that because this page was put into draft space someone else has started a page on Wikipedia for the same subject although their page is inferior to the one that I'm creating. I do not think that this is far and reasonable.

Can I please edit that page and place my code over the inferior 2019 SGB premiership to something that looks much better on Wikipedia.

As previously advised, your edits give the impression you have a financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. You were asked to cease editing until you responded by either stating that you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits, or by complying with the mandatory requirements under the Wikimedia Terms of Use that you disclose your employer, client and affiliation. Again, you can post such a disclosure on your user page at User:SpeedwayInfo, and the template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=SpeedwayInfo|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. Please respond before making any other edits to Wikipedia. Longhair\talk 14:12, 15 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

There have been two problems with this account: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group or a web site, which is also against policy, as an account must be for just one person. Because of those problems, the account has been blocked indefinitely from editing.

If you intend to make useful contributions about some topic other than your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In that reason, you must:

  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Longhair\talk 14:28, 15 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Wikipedia should note that I have no connection with the organisation that controls speedway within the UK and have no tbem paid by to make updates them a I 'am just a supporter of the sport that is trying to keep correct information on your website via my updates, because of this I do not think that my account should be blocked from editing. If Wikipedia does keep the block in place on my account then I will save my time and let the speedway pages go unaltered as I'm sure that not many people will put in the effort that I have done to my the information correct on the pages that I have updated.

Accept reason:

As the concerns now seem resolved, I will lift the block. 331dot (talk) 15:50, 17 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • You are not associated with the website Speedway Great Britain that you used as a source in your edits? The capitalized I in your username strongly suggests it is some sort of group, as well. 331dot (talk) 14:51, 15 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

(ec) I decided to block your account from editing as it was asked of you several days ago to respond in regards to your edits. I asked again today and you proceeded to edit without confirmation either way of your possible paid editing status. I also felt your username was promotional due to many of the pages you've created linking solely to the UK Speedway site. Another administrator will review your unblock request. Thank you for responding to the conflict of interest issues that were unclear until your response. -- Longhair\talk 14:53, 15 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry i didn't notice your messages. Speedway is my favourite sport which I followed for over 40 years. It's true that my citation do link back to the Speedway GB website that is only because it provides the correct information for the Wikipedia pages that I update (SGB Speedway and some SGP stuff). As Wikipedia likes users to reference their updates/ I could have otherwise used the results from the weekly Speedway Star magazine that is published every Thursday throughout the year. I thought that Wikipedia did not mind official references as it must preferable to having incorrect information on the site. I was trying to update the SGB pages for the 2019 season, as rider announcements will be ongoing now that BSPA has held it AGM.

IF you want me to change my username and not link any of my updates back to the Speedway GB website is fine with me. All I'm trying to do is put the correct information on the Wikipedia pages that I update for all too see, after all incorrect information is no good to anyone.

Are you associated with Speedway GB? 331dot (talk) 10:14, 17 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I do not have any association or connection with speedway GB whatsoever I' am just a fan of the sport andI do not receive any payment for my updates on Wikipedia. If you wish me to update pages without any link to Speedway GB this is OK with me and I will remove all links on the speedway 2018 updates pages if required..I only had the links to reference the information that I was placing onto Wikipedia. I will also change my username if want me to. I was only updating the 2019 Speedway GB pages as rider announcements will be made from this moment in time until the start of the 2019 season that I would have updated as I saw the information thus completing the team line-ups and other useful information. Your choice whether unblock my editing or not but if wikipedia wishes to loose a person that is willing to update pages then it is their choice and I will find something else better to do instead. It is better to have the correct information on pages rather then incorrect information as I have previously stated.

Many thanks for lifting my wikipedia editing block. I do have two questions though 1) Do you want me to remove all Speedway GB links from my edits? and 2) If you do not require me to remove the Speedway GB links for my edits can I still use them from now to add them from now on or not? If you require me to remove then I will do this on Sunday as I do not have the time at the moment to do this.

I don't know enough about it to know if that website is a reliable source or not (it would need to have a reputation for fact checking and editorial control). As long as you are not associated with it, I see no immediate concern with you using it unless someone else objects. You could ask at the reliable sources noticeboard about its suitability as a source. 331dot (talk) 17:40, 17 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The website that I use for my sources of information is the official website for speedway within Great Britain as far as I'm aware that have editorial control on everything published on their site. As I have already stated I just a fan of speedway and have no association r connection with Speedway GB starting to attend live meetings back in the mid 1970s. Obviously I do not want to infringe on Wikipedia's T's & C's and because of this I think that I will refaim from stating the Speedway GB website as the source of my references from now on although this official source will be used and not named within my page updates.

Sorry to come on here so late, but I created Wikivoyage's (sister site of Wikipedia) speedway article and I agree with User:SpeedwayInfo that the SpeedwayGB website is the main place for finding speedway information in Great Britain. Whether or not this user has a connection with the British Speedway Promoters' Association or a similar group or not, I don't know, but using that website as a source is perfectly reasonable IMO. I've even used the SpeedwayGB website as a source myself: see this revision. --Comment by Selfie City (talk about my contributions) 01:15, 9 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Also, it is important to mention that I think you should continue to cite SpeedwayGb as a source, there is nothing wrong with that. --Comment by Selfie City (talk about my contributions) 19:44, 4 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Michig. I noticed that you made an edit concerning content related to a living (or recently deceased) person on Split Waterman, but you didn't support your changes with a citation to a reliable source, so I removed it. Wikipedia has a very strict policy concerning how we write about living people, so please help us keep such articles accurate and clear. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you! --Michig (talk) 09:02, 10 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
