Disputed non-free use rationale for Image:GulliversTravels RadioTales.jpg
Thank you for uploading Image:GulliversTravels RadioTales.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 23:25, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
- I corrected an unrecognized apostrophe in the article title that I submitted for that image. For some reason, copying the article title from Word (where I was editing the text) to Wikipedia sometimes produces an apostrophe that Wikipedia can't recognize. The referenced article does exist. The article title now correctly links to the existing article, Gulliver's Travels (radio). Soundout (talk) 02:07, 24 July 2008 (UTC)

AFD for the episodes of Radio Tales
I have nominated all of the articles for the individual episodes of Radio Tales for deletion. The combined AFD page is Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The Time Machine (Radio) et al. Themfromspace (talk) 20:43, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
Pending AFD discussion and the deletion of related content
{{helpme}}
I am currently at a loss to address an issue that is related to Themfromspace's nomination of all the articles for the individual episodes of the Radio Tales series for deletion. I am not asking for help with that particular issue, which continues to be discussed on the associated page: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The Time Machine (Radio) et al. When I created the articles in question, I also visited other articles on Wikipedia whose content related directly to the subject matter of the articles I had just created. Then, in accordance with Wikipedia's ongoing policy to encourage its editors to de-orphan articles as quickly as possible, I added a meaningful link to the article I had just created, making sure to include it in a section of the existing article which bore a direct relationship to the content of the article I had recently completed. My problem is that when Themfromspace nominated my pages for deletion, he or she also visited every article on Wikipedia to which I had added a link, and then deleted every single link I had added. Regardless of whether Themfromspace should have waited until the AFD discussion was concluded, the deletions have been carried out. I do not wish to summarily undo these deletions without discussion, but I am unsure how to go about a discussion of an issue this complex. I have already taken the first recommended step by commenting on the talk pages of each of these articles. I attempted to make my case for the pertinence of the information, and I asked why the deletions had been performed. You can read these comments by checking my contributions history and visiting the talk pages to which I have contributed today (September 16, 2008). However, considering that all these deletions are directly related to Themfromspace's AFD discussion, I am concerned that this first step may not be sufficient. Can you recommend what my best course of action should be? Soundout (talk) 03:05, 16 September 2008 (UTC)
- Just try talking it out with the user(s) involved. I don't really understand the issue, but discussing with other users usually works. Ten Pound Hammer and his otters • (Broken clamshells • Otter chirps • HELP) 03:11, 16 September 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry about the Tl;dr -- I'll summarize. Themfromspace wants to delete a lot of pages I've created. There's a discussion going on about that now. Themfromspace already went ahead and located all the related Wikipedia articles which have links to these pages under discussion, and deleted all the links. Themfromspace didn't wait for the discussion to conclude. I've already reached out to Themfromspace by posting on the talk pages of all these articles he or she edited. What should I do now? Notability notice -- Assessment of Notability
{{help me}}
A "notability" flag has been placed on the Winifred Phillips article, saying it isn't notable. I asked why this was done on the article's Talk page, but received no answer. I'd like someone to tell me if the flag is pertinent, or if it can be removed. How can I go about requesting such an assessment?
- What, am I the ONLY PERSON on Wikipedia that can be bothered to answer a helpme? Anyway, she looks marginally notable to me; the sources don't really say too much about her but she seems to have many awards. I'd remove the tag. Undoing Deletions After AFD Resolution
{{help me}} A user nominated a lot of my pages for deletion (see the "Speedy Keep" notice on The Time Machine (Radio) talk page for info). That user also went to other articles and deleted internal links to my pages, calling them "irrelevant info". Since the pages are now "Speedy Keep", I'd like to put back those internal links. Could someone give me a go-ahead? The pages are Lugh, Polyphemus, Lotophagi, Tiresias, Scylla and Charybdis, Emer, Circe, and Fomorians. I've already posted on their talk pages, asking why the info was deleted and providing a rationale for inclusion. Thanks. Soundout (talk) 01:49, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
- That sounds fine to me. Based on the titles of some of those, it sounds like the nominations were all made in bad faith, so feel free to revert any changes. If you have rollback, I wouldn't recommend using that, but the undo button should be fine. Hersfold (t/a/c) 01:54, 17 September 2008 (UTC)

Categories for Discussion/Log/2008 September 30
{{helpme}}
Category:Radio Tales is under a renaming discussion -- I created the category. Otto4711 said it should be renamed Category:Radio Tales episodes. I suggested Category:Radio Tales programs, since the series is an anthology series, so the programs really aren't 'episodes'. I'd like to just change the name. Do I have to wait for the discussion to be closed or something? How is this supposed to work? Soundout (talk) 21:28, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, you should wait for consensus to emerge before moving the category to the new name. Prince of Canada t | c 21:30, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
- Usually such discussions are open for arooound five days; if an obvious conclusion is reached before then, early closes do sometimes happen. This particular discussion only has the two comments, so far, so I'd recommend a dash of patience. – Luna Santin (talk) 21:34, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
Further Input in Renaming Discussion
{{helpme}}
Hey, I was wondering if I could elicit a third opinion regarding the renaming discussion that's going on for Category:Radio Tales? So far its just Otto4711 and myself having a disagreement -- we don't seem to have resolved anything, and nobody else has chimed in. How can I go about getting some more contributions to this dialogue?
- The place to ask for third opinions is WP:30. Cheers! Prince of Canada t | c 22:02, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

Ending a dead discussion and removing a CFD notice
{{help me}}
Otto4711 placed a CFD notice on the Category:Radio Tales page -- he wanted to rename the category. Otto4711 and I discussed it on the CFD page. We couldn't agree. He hasn't added anything to that discussion for some time now. Nobody else has commented, even though I posted a Wikipedia:Third opinion request at WP:30 (at the recommendation of User:PrinceOfCanada). I'd like to remove the CFD notice. Can I go ahead and do that? Soundout (talk) 11:37, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
- As the template says: Please share your thoughts on the matter at this category's entry on the Categories for Discussion page.
- You can ask an admin to close the discussion, though. Prince of Canada t | c 11:58, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks, PrinceOfCanada. I'm looking now for instructions on how to ask an admin for input... where would I find that kind of information? Soundout (talk) 12:06, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for your message, while it might seem that 30th September is a while ago it is only a few days. I'm not sure how long ta CfD is usually left before a decision is made, but I would suggest that it needs to be at least five days. Your best bet would be to approach an admin after five days to close it. All the best.♦Tangerines♦·Talk 15:52, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

CfD Notice with no consensus
I was told that I should ask for an administrator's help once five days had passed since the posting of a Category for Discussion notice on a category I created, Category:Radio Tales. Otto4711 wants to rename the cateory -- we had a disagreement about the renaming, with no consensus. Since over five days have passed, I'd very much like to find some resolution to the issue so that the CfD notice can be removed. Can you help me with this? Soundout (talk) 19:58, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

Help with obtaining help
I think I may be doing something wrong regarding asking for help from an administrator -- User:Tangerines suggested I ask for an administrator to weigh in on a CfD that's currently underway, so I posted an adminhelp here, and also posted a request on the Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard. Since neither garnered any response, I think I must be doing something wrong. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? I'd really appreciate it! Soundout (talk) 14:43, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:InvisibleMan RadioTales.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:InvisibleMan RadioTales.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:21, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
Image copyright problem with Image:WarOfTheWorlds RadioTales.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:WarOfTheWorlds RadioTales.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
- That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did in The_Boarded_Window_(radio), The_Fall_of_the_House_of_Usher_(Radio) or Apocalypse_(radio). Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you. TeapotgeorgeTalk 22:36, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
The links were for the express purpose of leading article readers to a source of streaming audio for the Radio Tales series. Audioville is the one and only source for such streaming audio, which is not available for download anywhere else. This content is pertinent, and significantly enhances the reader's appreciation for and understanding of the content of the article. Therefore, it does not qualify as spam and should be included in the article. The deletion of this content was hasty and ill-informed. Soundout (talk) 22:52, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
This link... http://www.audioville.co.uk/store/product/view_productcategory.php?Id=59 is blatant commercial spam it is an on-line shop. TeapotgeorgeTalk 22:55, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
Yes, it is a shop -- it is also a portal where streaming audio from the Radio Tales series can be heard. This is an educational resource. If audio media from this series were available in any other way, I would point to that. It is not. This is the best and only way to hear the Radio Tales series, and readers who sought out information on the series by way of Wikipedia would find their understanding enhanced by hearing such material. The links clearly indicated that the destination was a source of streaming audio for the Radio Tales series. It is not spam. Soundout (talk) 22:59, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
Please stop adding inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. It is considered spamming and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or promotion. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, additions of links to Wikipedia will not alter search engine rankings. If you continue spamming, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. TeapotgeorgeTalk 23:17, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
Teapotgeorge, you have misrepresented me to OrangeMike by saying that I have spammed hundreds of pages, when this is clearly not true. I have only included this information on the pages pertaining directly to the Radio Tales series (the program pages and the main article page), and to no other pages but these. The information is pertinent to the article in question, and leads readers to streaming audio from the Radio Tales series which can be found nowhere else but this location. If you would like to offer a suggestion as to an alternative method to link to this media, then please do so. But do not misrepresent my actions to others. Soundout (talk) 00:00, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
- These are links to a commercial website selling stuff. Spam. End of story. If you wish to contribute to this project, you will have to commit yourself to ceasing adding links to a commercial site just because it also offers content you like. Otherwise: spam is spam. --Orange Mike | Talk 00:03, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
- I would be happy to do so... but this is extremely pertinent material, relevant to the article in question. Unless you can suggest an alternative method of including this audio material in the article, it seems very unwise to delete it. Soundout (talk) 00:05, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
- Why should there be a link to buy the audio material? Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a shop. Thanks god, you don't see Amazon links on every single film or album article. Likewise, there shouldn't be a link to a shop in a radio show article.Laurent (talk) 00:23, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
- But I don't want to link to the page where you can buy the audio, I just want to link to the free streaming audio that's on the page! That's all. It's a great resource. There should be a way that I can do that in an objective, encyclopedic manner. Can you please help me? Soundout (talk) 00:26, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
- OrangeMike has just written me a letter regarding this issue which clarifies things for me. I would be happy to remove the references to AudioVille, but I would like to preserve the publication history of the Radio Tales programs. Both of you have deleted the entire section on publication history, which never accorded with the definition of Spam and was pertinent to the history of the series. I would like to preserve this section. Soundout (talk) 00:39, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
- Actually I think all the radio drama articles should be merged into the articles of the original story. For example, there is no need for The Yellow Wallpaper (radio) article since most of it is just repeating what's on The Yellow Wallpaper. I think there should just be a mention of this radio adaptation in the "Media adaptation" section (which already exists) of the original article. Laurent (talk) 00:52, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
- That discussion has already taken place for the entirety of the series, and resulted in Speedy Keep. See the closed AFD discussion resulting in speedy keep Soundout (talk) 01:05, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
- I'm not suggesting to delete the articles but to merge them with the original source materials. Of the 5 people who answered in the original discussion, 3 said that the articles should be merged in some way. The bottom line is that if you remove the "Plot Summary" section (which is redundant since it's already in the source article), there's very little remaining in the article. Laurent (talk) 01:29, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, but that's not true. There is information about awards that individual programs from the series have won, the years in which these accolades were earned, original broadcast dates, critical reviews and reactions, publication history, etc. Also, the plot summary section is -not- redundant, because the plots of the programs are in most cases significantly different from the original stories, since these are adaptations of the source material that include numerous additions and reworkings of the original text. The plot of "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" for example is designed for a radio program that only lasts one hour. The story is adapted for the radio medium and to fit in the time allotted, so there are very significant changes to the original novel. Soundout (talk) 01:38, 7 February 2009 (UTC)

Request reason:
Teapotgeorge misrepresented my actions to OrangeMike, which caused him to ban me. I have not spammed 'hundreds of sites', as Teapotgeorge said. I mistakenly included two links to a commercial site -- my sole intention being to let readers access the free streaming audio that was there, and could not be included in the article otherwise. I would be happy to remove these links. It was never my intention to Spam, and I would not have undone Teapotgeorge and Laurent1979's edits of these links if they had not also completely removed the entire publication history section of the articles in question, which was a more far-reaching action and wasn't warranted. The publication history of this National Public Radio series is encyclopedic in nature, and worthy of inclusion. But I now understand their concern regarding the AudioVille links, and will be happy to remove them, when I am able to do so. Can I be unblocked now?
Decline reason:
I have gone over your edits and I find that if you are attempting to add a publication history to articles, it is obscured considerably by your agenda to add linkspam to those articles. Had this happened once or twice, I would be compelled to give you a second chance, but what I see is a sustained effort to promote a company within Wikipedia. I am declining your request at this time. — Trusilver 01:45, 7 February 2009 (UTC)

My intent was never to promote a company within Wikipedia. I made it clear that I intended to provide Wikipedia visitors with a source of free streaming audio from the Radio Tales series -- which is a resource that I thought would be beneficial for a greater appreciation of the article. I am not employed by the company in question, and have not acted with the intent to promote the company. If any of the other references that I have used in the "publication history" sections could be considered linkspam, I don't understand how -- the sites in question no longer exist, and the links point towards archived pages in the WayBack Machine as reference that the programs were formerly published there. As I indicated before, I now understand what I have been blocked for, I will not do it again and I will make productive contributions to Wikipedia, as I have done in the past in the creation and maintenance of the Radio Tales articles, and related articles to the creative people involved (namely Winifred Phillips and Winnie Waldron) as well as articles pertaining to notable classic American authors who had not yet been recognized by Wikipedia for their notability (namely the feminist author Kate McPhelim Cleary). According to Wikipedia:Guide to appealing blocks, a block is no longer needed if I acknowledge my fault and earnestly vow never to commit such an action in the future. I have never been accused of spam before today, I did not understand the situation until after I was banned and was able to exchange e-mails with the Administrator who banned me (who has been very helpful, and suggested that I appeal to you in this way for help in becoming unblocked). I believe with only one transgression which I have vowed to amend, I am worthy to be unblocked. Is there no way in which you can give me another chance?
Decline reason:
Looks like the block was been reduced to 30 days by the reviewing admin. Andrew c [talk] 17:50, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.
While I believe your linkspamming warrants a long block, I'm not sure if indef is called for given your previous history. I'm going to contact the blocking admin. Blueboy96 15:02, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
Thank you very much, Blueboy96. Soundout (talk) 15:27, 7 February 2009 (UTC)

AfD nomination of Time Warp (radio) and related articles
I have nominated Time Warp (radio), The Furnished Room (radio), and The Yellow Wallpaper (radio), articles that you created, for deletion. I do not think that these articles satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Time Warp (radio). Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the articles to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Orphaned non-free media (File:TimeWarp RadioTales.jpg)
Thanks for uploading File:TimeWarp RadioTales.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. Winifred Phillips and Winnie Waldron edits
I've reverted some of the changes you've made on videogame articles. May I suggest that you stop writing about Winifred Phillips and Winnie Waldron on Wikipedia since you clearly have a conflict of interest with them? If you have a genuine interest in Shrek the Third (video game), The Da Vinci Code (video game) or other videogames, feel free to contribute to the articles but please stop giving undue weight to the soundtrack. Thanks. Laurent (talk) 14:14, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
