Hi! Are you back?

Hey Soni. I was wondering if you were 'un-retired'. If you're going to give out welcome templates to Teahouse guests it would probably make sense to have your talk page look a little more, well, not retired. Cheers! Ocaasi t | c 19:45, 26 January 2013 (UTC)

I have been all but retired in these past few days! But I am about to go back into my long due hibernation/retirement. (Which I have been delaying/cancelling nearly everyday!) So I think it will be better if the Teahouse guests find someone a little bit unretired! Feel free to have me removed from the list of hosts giving the welcome. I shall re-request it once I awaken again. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 20:05, 26 January 2013 (UTC)
500 contributions in 8 days looks pretty unretired to me. --NickPenguin(contribs) 20:16, 26 January 2013 (UTC)
What do I got to do to make everyone believe that I am retired? I even got my own retired template there! TheOriginalSoni (talk) 20:28, 26 January 2013 (UTC)

Teahouse questions

Alright. Nthep's picture as the Teahouse host got me thinking - Are all Wikipedia users generally as old as him? - Gee thanks!! :-) NtheP (talk) 21:10, 26 January 2013 (UTC)

So how old are you really? (Please dont say over a 100 ;) ) [Answer there, not as well as here!] TheOriginalSoni (talk) 21:14, 26 January 2013 (UTC)

Your edits at Gloria Allred

Hi TheOriginalSoni. I am interested in improving the Gloria Allred article and working with other editors to do so, but I feel that your recent edit warring behavior makes any such improvement impossible. Please stop reverting the article to your preferred version and discuss changes on the talk page first. Please also revisit WP:OWN and recognize that more than one editor has reverted your bold changes to Allred's article. Gobōnobō + c 06:52, 27 January 2013 (UTC)

Hi Gobonobo,
I am preety sure you want to improve the article under question, as do I. But please note that plain reverting of everything without discussion is edit warring, and that my behaviour there does not constitute edit warring nor does it fall under WP:OWN. As for the more than one editor reverting me, please recognize the fact that the other editor under question did not revert all of it back, but only those sections he deemed important enough to re-insert. Your edits however looked like plain reverting without appropriate discussion. Please do not revert me back again, but take the time to see what sections are actually important enough to be put back. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 07:00, 27 January 2013 (UTC)
I've taken a stab at reworking the article and have noted areas where I think improvement can be made on the talk page. I think the sectioning helps to break it up a bit and the prose helps it look less like a CV. I have a copy of Allred's book as well and will continue to suss out which cases are considered the most notable and improve the sourcing. Gobōnobō + c 00:32, 2 February 2013 (UTC)
👍 Like. Hope the article will be a lot better now. (And I apologize on my part for I acted mainly without being completely aware of how important she actually was). TheOriginalSoni (talk) 17:57, 2 February 2013 (UTC)

Progress on WP:Snuggle and work log

I've been making some progress on Snuggle development recently and I could use your feedback. Specifically, I've created a work log that I plan to update every time I get a chance to work on Snuggle. My intention is that you'll be able to watch that page to track my progress so I can get your feedback on features when they are early in development. The most recent entry (also the only entry) discusses new functionality for interacting with newcomers via Snuggle. I posted some mockups in the work log that show how I imagine the new features to work and I could use some feedback before I start writing the code. Thanks! --EpochFail(talkwork) 20:29, 27 January 2013 (UTC)

Greetings

Came across your msg on my talk-page after you had retired. But I am honoured to know the one and only original Soni. Knowing you has made me more humble. Regards.Soni Ruchi (talk) 05:44, 28 January 2013 (UTC)

About the welcome note you left on my talk page...

In case you don't know, I've been on Wikipedia for about 2 years. Isn't that a bit late for "welcoming" me? --Yashowardhani (talk) 11:53, 28 January 2013 (UTC)

Is it? Sorry then. I just saw your talk page, and it looked like it was way too new (Didnt really go through the history, and I saw no archives). My bad! TheOriginalSoni (talk) 17:05, 28 January 2013 (UTC)

Which would make you a pretty new user, I think. Anyways, the "Welcome" template is to familiarize the editors with the way things are done here - So it might be appropriate here, I think. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 22:33, 28 January 2013 (UTC)

Asperity page

Hi there! This material was remove previously after a series of users were found to be sockpuppets vandalizing Wikipedia, and a new account was formed for the sole purpose of reinstating it. It is very likely this new user is another sockpuppet. Just thought I'd give you the background on why I'm removing this material. I've yet to launch a sockpuppetry investigation into the new SPA, but I think it is fairly obvious this is a rehashing of an older problem that administration has already ruled on. Jeremy112233 (talk) 00:12, 29 January 2013 (UTC)

Hello,
I did not see any such material on the page. Could you just provide the links to the diff?
Sorry but I was assuming good faith on his part, which led me to auto-assume bad faith on yours (Since I did not see anything supporting your claim, I thought them to be unsubstantiated)
TheOriginalSoni (talk) 00:15, 29 January 2013 (UTC)
I see it now. I just checked the Talk page, and not the user page. In any case, we see such fringe users editing talk pages very frequently in all types of articles. Cant hurt to keep and hat the talk page discussion I think. (I am not too sure if removing from talk page constitutes censorship) TheOriginalSoni (talk) 00:18, 29 January 2013 (UTC)
Apparently I need a lot of sleep. 6 am is not doing good to my concentration levels. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 00:20, 29 January 2013 (UTC)
TheOriginalSoni (talk) 00:15, 29 January 2013 (UTC)
No problem, your actions were completely reasonable in this situation without backgroun. Here are the links for the content:
http://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Talk:Asperity_Employee_Benefits&diff=535425077&oldid=535424659
http://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Talk:Asperity_Employee_Benefits&diff=533123403&oldid=531007134
You can see on the talk page edit history that the original text was posted by User:SarahPetersonLive, which is one of the many sockpuppets involved. As was the person who created the first talk page material, User talk:RebeccaMcdonald. The talk page material specifically mirrors the material that has been blocked from the actual page, seen here: http://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Asperity_Employee_Benefits&diff=531008649&oldid=531008557
So the talk page material is only there to disparage the company and circumvent our previous main page deletions--otherwise you're right, there really isn't much reason to delete talk page material. Jeremy112233 (talk) 00:26, 29 January 2013 (UTC)
I apologise for my mistake and promise to go to sleep immediately :P TheOriginalSoni (talk) 00:28, 29 January 2013 (UTC)
Don't apologize! It was no problem at all :) Jeremy112233 (talk) 00:35, 29 January 2013 (UTC)

Thanks!

Speedy deletion declined: Limerick (city)

Hello TheOriginalSoni. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Limerick (city), a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Please discuss this with other editors before moving the page. Revising the nominations process at Wikipedia:Today's article for improvement

I'm seeking wider input on a proposed redesign of the nomination process over at TAFI. The current method could benefit from some streamlining and usability tweaks. If you feel so inclined, I'd like to hear your opinion on the matter. --NickPenguin(contribs) 23:02, 31 January 2013 (UTC)

Chronological

Yeah I did that initially basically so I wouldn't miss anything, but assuming there's nothing else I'll arrange them based on like things I guess (although within the sections will keep chrono). Ranze (talk) 10:38, 3 February 2013 (UTC)

I believe that will make it a lot better and cohesive to understand. Go forward with it. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 10:39, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
K done with first witch girl draft, not sure where to go from there though. It would rock if I could find enough data on the two films to make articles but can only seem to find cast data. Old BWs are old. Ranze (talk) 10:43, 3 February 2013 (UTC)

Stub tags

Hi, I see that even though retired you still added a {{stub}} tag to Jan Hendrik Doeleman. Please take care not to add this tag to articles which already have a subject-specific stub tag, as this one did. It just wastes everyone's time. Thanks. PamD 12:52, 3 February 2013 (UTC)

I know you're retired, but...

is there any chance you could help out User:Tazerdadog with this mathematics dispute? This is way beyond my knowledge of mathematics, and I seem to remember your old userpage listed pi out to dozens of digits, so it might be right up your alley. If you could help, I would really appreciate it. Go Phightins! 01:51, 4 February 2013 (UTC)

Page move

Just a note: when you moved Wikipedia:WikiProject Editor Retention/Editor of the Week/infobox, you omitted to move the subpages, so the template's documentation and links to the test cases page no longer appeared. I've moved the subpages now; just something to bear in mind for any future page moves you may make. isaacl (talk) 16:17, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:Victorian Bushrangers.jpg)

Thanks for uploading File:Victorian Bushrangers.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:12, 22 February 2013 (UTC)

Request for closure made

Hi, I just wanted to let you know I've placed a request for a willing editor to come review and close your open discussion at Village pump (proposals) on Having ‎Simple English at top of languages. The request was made at Requests for Closure: Administrators Noticeboard and a link is at the top of the Village pump (prosals) page and also at the end of the voting. It may be a while before someone closes; they seem to have a backlog, but the request is in the line. ツ Fylbecatulous talk 18:14, 24 February 2013 (UTC)

EotW Hall of Fame

Thanks for your diligence. I think it is a wonderful addition that lifts EotW above the "normal award". Ive looked at it, behind the curtain, you might say, to evaluate whether, if necessary, I could create the next one. I dont think so. Usually with these types of situations I just replace the pertinent information (image, bio, stats, etc.) Should I or any other clerk have to do it, what do we watch out for? The most recent edits by yourself and Isaac1 lead me to believe there is some 'jiggling' necessary. I just want to be able to 'cover the position' if it should ever be necessary. ```Buster Seven Talk 17:29, 4 March 2013 (UTC)

If you mean this edit, it was just a placeholder, looking two weeks ahead. A placeholder already existed for next week's recipient: you just need to uncomment the {{subst:Template:WikiProject Editor Retention/Editor of the Week/Current recipient infobox}} in the Hall of Fame table to update it with the current editor of the week infobox. (The placeholders are just a convenience to the next person updating the Hall of Fame, so it doesn't matter if they're present.)
The mechanics of creating a new infobox is straightforward enough: assuming you are creating it in the sandbox, either copy one already present in the sandbox, or copy the current infobox to the bottom of the sandbox, and change the parameter values appropriately. (If you think some of the parameters you want to use are missing, check Wikipedia:WikiProject Editor Retention/Editor of the Week/Infobox to see all the available parameters.) In the sandbox, add an extra {{clear}} after the infobox; this is so each infobox will stay in its own section. (When copying the infobox from the top of the sandbox to Template:WikiProject Editor Retention/Editor of the Week/Current recipient infobox, do not copy the {{clear}}.) What to put in the mini bio and what photo to use is the more taxing part, requiring a bit of research. isaacl (talk) 17:49, 4 March 2013 (UTC)
Hey Buster,
Thanks for showing an interest in updating the infoboxes. It's usually me or isaac updating them, and so another hand could be helpful.
  • First, I think you are talking of the infobox. The Hall of Fame is just the place where we place the infoboxes after we have already awarded the users. Where we actually make them is the infobox sandbox.
  • If you look at the sandbox, you can see the various infoboxes for the approved EotW candidates that we will be giving out in the next few weeks. Feel free to edit any of the infoboxes, or to create new infoboxes for the other approved recipients.
  • The infoboxes themselves are quite simple, and you can understand them by just loking at the previous ones. If not, you can always look at the documentation for the infobox.
  • Also, if you are the one doing the honours of awarding, then make sure to follow the guidelines given at the main EotW page. You can also leave that part to us, and we'll handle it :)
Hope this was what you were looking for.
Cheers,
TheOriginalSoni (talk) 13:47, 6 March 2013 (UTC)
Exactly. It eases my concern. I should have known that you and Isaac had it handled. ```Buster Seven Talk 16:29, 6 March 2013 (UTC)

EotW templates

Please don't delay any changes you wish to make to any templates related to the Editor of the Week on my account; whatever consensus is agreed upon is fine with me. isaacl (talk) 05:19, 19 March 2013 (UTC)

The reason I was delaying it was because I was not entirely sure how to implement the infobox with the new design. If you were to check on the same, it would be better. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 05:47, 19 March 2013 (UTC)
At present, I'm not undertaking any additional changes to the infobox; I'm sure there are others who can assist (Kelvinsong may have based his suggested version on the resulting markup on his talk page; if pointed to the helper template itself he may be able to make the changes directly). I do think your change to the barnstar in the infobox, with its slightly larger size, works well. In the interests of minimizing any attention being drawn to the matter, I'd appreciate it if you did not mention my reply on the Editor of the Week talk page. isaacl (talk) 12:22, 19 March 2013 (UTC)
Just a quick question - Is your hesitation to be a part of the project related to the feud there was with Amadscientist? if so, I strongly request you to please ignore and try and get over it. I personally will surely want you to be a very active part of the project there. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 08:00, 20 March 2013 (UTC)
I am not sure that this is a fair representation of what happened, but I should add that he is welcome to work on whatever project he wishes, but in the future if you want to avoid a "feud", pushing people away who, themselves were working on the same pages and template (in fact who designed them) in the manner that happened is probably going to result in a similar reaction. This is a collaboration and our work will be edited but the manner in which I was treated over my contributions was just not very nice. Let me remind you that I was interrupted by this editor while I was redesigning the WER page in a manner that was indeed confrontational and no attempt was made to work together. I can see that, even now Soni prefers you over working with me. No attempt is being made to even bother asking for further input on my side so clearly they would rather have you Isaac then the one who designed the damn thing to begin with. So, I tell you what. I will no longer support EOTW any further and will remove my name from the project. Now no one has to worry about my butting in on shit I created. Its all yours guys. Good luck and happy editing--Amadscientist (talk) 08:15, 20 March 2013 (UTC)
WOAH!!!!!!! Lets every body cool our jets. This thing WE ALL have created and worked on and nurtured is TOO FRICKIN Important to just walk away from. Amad, please! Keep calm. You give so much GREAT advice to so many editors. Talk to yourself and realize that miscommunication on the internet, especially at WP, happens all the time. Accurate talk is near impossible. We almost always mis-interpret the other editors intentions. ```Buster Seven Talk 08:27, 20 March 2013 (UTC)
Why should the project and the future recepients and your fellow clerks suffer because you and Isaac disagreed. I know he stepped on your toes...Hard. And maybe you don't feel like he has apologized. But so what? Soni and I had words just the other day and we just collaboreated on a nice new addition to the project. have a cup of tea and reconsider. You are a valued team player. We need you to help make this a reknowned Project and Award. ```Buster Seven Talk 08:33, 20 March 2013 (UTC)
This isn't about Isaac. He made his apologies and I made it clear he is welcome to work there as did you. That is up to him. I respect you Buster, but the insult of watching Soni go from editor to editor trying to get help from everyone but me is just not cool. I spent hours on that damn thing and it is not hard to misinterpret the fact that Soni has been asking everyone but me for help in replacing it. So be it. Burn it and forget I even bothered helping with a project that awards editors for best practices when they can't even be bothered to actually use best practices. I am not going to waste my time supporting something that clearly could care less how much I have attempted to help. When an editor sees that others clearly do not want their input, it is better to walk away than endure or create further issues.--Amadscientist (talk) 08:37, 20 March 2013 (UTC)
I'm sorry for any harm I made by not asking you, but I intended none of it. I have been working along with isaacl on various issues for quite some time, and I naturally asked him. I personally have not worked with you at all, and so I did not know anything about what your area of expertise is. Similar to how I have almost no interaction with Buster. I welcome any and all help from anyone, (and if you see the EotW talk) I actually wanted to work with you. I just get mis-interpreted a lot, and I apologise for any problems it may have caused [again]. I very strongly request you to come back to the project and leave this issue behind. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 08:44, 20 March 2013 (UTC)
And just so you know, I was hesitant to mess up the infobox by implementing the new design myself. The one person who had been working with me on this was isaacl, so I turned to him. And then he made the suggestion of going to Kelvin, who could help in improvising his design. I really had no intentions whatsoever by going to whom I went. It's just I went to them because they happened to be the first ones to pop in my head. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 09:00, 20 March 2013 (UTC)
Just so you know, the time stamps make it clear when you decided to ask me for help...when you got no answer from everyone else. I don't know you either Soni, and after all my experiences with you here, not sure I wish to now. I reach out to everyone involved. You seem to be comfortable with only those you have worked with in the past so if it makes it easier and more comfortable for Isaac, I can walk away. I don't have as much invested in the project and clearly I shouldn't be putting anymore time and effort into it when you are actively looking for help outside the project and purposely neglecting to even bother with the person that spent hours trying to figure out the template codes and process for you.--Amadscientist (talk) 09:16, 20 March 2013 (UTC)
Is it really that insensitive for me to be comfortable with everyone? It is not possible (for me atleast) to get along with everybody, and so I prefer to just do what I do while trying to bother everyone else as less as I can. I asked isaacl because he was working with me. I asked Kelvin because isaacl suggested me to. I did not know how much you had worked on the template (or if you had, for that matter), and so I did not ask you. I truly fail to understand how this simple action can end up hurting anybody. If it did, I truly apologize. Sorry man! TheOriginalSoni (talk) 09:23, 20 March 2013 (UTC)

Hello

First of all, thanks for answering my question. And I have one more... how do I mark as Active a project???. Kind Regards Miss Bono (talk) 20:25, 21 March 2013 (UTC)

As far as I know, projects are not per-se marked as active. Rather the inactive ones are marked. So since you've already removed the "inactive" template, I believe that is enough to mark it as active. All you need is more members, and getting things going. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 20:30, 21 March 2013 (UTC)

Number.6.freeman (talk) 12:47, 24

UPDATE!

  • most of your suggestions were implemented, although i wasn't able to add a whole bunch more content. i did flesh-out the introduction and added a short addition about the status of the republican party at the time. i embedded the ancillary sources into more footnotes within the text (removing them from the bottom), and made word or context corrections to the terms for which you had issues. the list is still there as is--i am thinking it should be a table like others i have seen on wiki, but i will have to play with it first before trying it. i do want to try to make the table--that part i find fun hehe
i did spend many hours today (that i really shouldn't have) trying to read up on the republican party in that era. the problem is...i really dislike politics (hope you aren't offended lol), and it was becoming exceedingly stressful for me to be spending so much time on something i didn't like. if i were more familiar with the people or politics of the era, it would have been much better, but most of the info i found focused on the winning party of the time, so it glossed over the republicans, who were the minority party then. i still don't know a whole lot of details about the GOP party during the 1960s, and i can't justify the time to go and research it all--i would prefer to spend my time on wiki helping out with the subjects where i do have some knowledge or expertise.
the only reason why i had looked up the YT in the first place is because it came up in discussion where someone had mentioned the TV show with the same name. i had known of the political YT's existence because i had written about it a long time ago as just a quick reference in a paper about Gerald Ford, but i didn't know anything more about it. now i know a lot more than i will probably ever care about!! :p
  • i don't know if you saw, but there was a weird message at the bottom of the article in my sandbox--stating that it needed to be moved. i posted a question in the teahouse about it, and the person who answered jumped in and approved and posted my article as it is now. given that i had made your corrections, i felt that it's as good as i can make it with my limited knowledge, so i'm happy to be able to walk away from it now--someone else who knows more can add to or adjust it.
  • thanks, so much for your help! the next time i go look something up and find it needs a stub, i think i will just make it a true stub of a few sentences if i don't know anything about the subject. this was brutal. the only reason i kept going is because i want to learn more about contributing to wiki.

Glad to see you've made your first article. Congratulations. I wouldn't be able to review the article though... Too less time on my hand, and too slow internet. But good work! :) TheOriginalSoni (talk) 04:14, 29 March 2013 (UTC)

Complex Flow Charts

Any articles in need of complex flow charts? I could create some and upload them to Commons. Specifically, I'm looking for articles without good pictures and/or good diagrams. See the right hand side for a working example (not created by me). --Carrot Lord (talk) 00:10, 24 March 2013 (UTC)

Did you try the Wikipedia:Graphics Lab/Illustration workshop? Or the Map workshop? Those two might have what you are looking for. If not, tell me, and I will do a personal search. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 12:32, 24 March 2013 (UTC)
A lot of those requests seem to be SVG requests. I should probably learn how to use SVG before continuing. --Carrot Lord (talk) 16:52, 24 March 2013 (UTC)
I agree. Inkscape seems to be a good space to start. Wikipedia:How to draw a diagram with Inkscape could turn out to be helpful. And if you want someone to help you out in learning, I suggest User:Kelvinsong.
Hope this helps.

Miss Bono (talk) 13:25, 25 March 2013 (UTC)

Question!

Someone asked me on my talk where were the discussion for the new wikiproject U2, but I don't know how and where to start it. Please, help me on that.Miss Bono (talk) 13:33, 25 March 2013 (UTC)

Hello Miss Bono,
You need to make it clear that you are trying to make WikiProject U2 active again. From the message you posted, it wasnt that clear.
Just go to the WikiProject talk page, start a discussion; and ask for some advice/help if required. And then ask others to come in for discussion. Once you do that, you'll know who the active members are; and you can try to co-ordinate with them to get the various articles up and running. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 04:25, 29 March 2013 (UTC)
CAN YOU HELP ME ON THAT??? :) Pleaseeeee.Miss Bono (talk) 11:54, 2 April 2013 (UTC)
DONE

Miss Bono (zootalk) 11:52, 4 April 2013 (UTC)

Only if you remove that ad from my talk page ;)
See. A WikiProject is there for improving articles on a topic. Everything else is less important. So what is required is to start getting people who would be interested in helping with articles.
I suggest you decide on what to do. A good place to start will be to get Bono or The Edge to GA status. Annouce the same on the WikiProject talk page, and ask others if they can help. If you're lucky, one or two people would join in, and you can start working immediately.
Other than that, you can't really try to make a project active again unless there are others willing to come in too.
And btw, to create one of those ads, you need to make a gif image banner of the required size. You need not do it yourself; and you can ask someone else to help (User:Kelvinsong is one person I always suggest people to go to when it comes to graphics). When that is done, just ask at the Teahouse, and someone will help in putting that ad up on the list. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 20:25, 3 April 2013 (UTC)
Thanks, TheOriginalSoni!
