To Grsz: Even my constructive comments have been deleted.
Comment: What kind of person is Dengero? I leave it to your judgment whether he is a Cantonese chauvinist. Ironically, on his user page, "User:Dengero", he has stated: "some people are just so racist these days". I can only guess he has been racially discriminated in real life or on the Internet. But having shown the same insensitive attitude to his fellow Chinese, I don't think he need any sympathy. I want to highlight to you his statement above:- "As for your Hakka Hongkongers, which is just a section of specific 1st generations, represent only very tiny, literally hundreds of people in an area confined by your title." This show that he is either a blatant liar or an ignorant person. If you believe the former, surely his integrity need to be questioned. If the latter, I can only guess his parents has not given him a proper education. Look under Category:Hong Kong People, http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Category:Hong_Kong_people, you will see categories like Category:Hong Kong vegetarians, Category: Hong Kong children, etc, etc. Are these trivial? Definitely not in Dengero's eyes. In his mindset, only non-Cantonese Chinese culutre is trivial. No thanks to his indulgence in Cantopop which he posts rosy information to Wikipedia regularly. If Dengero still has conscience, he should, first and foremost, issue an apology and retract his 'trivial' remark. Next, he should also rethink whether he should continue to be in the two Wikiprojects he is in. Does he really have the maturity and impartiality to make good judgment? Or he like the 'authority' so that he can be trigger-happy on anything he deem trivial in Wikipedia. I wonder how Wikipedia choose her Wikiproject members. Dengero can, of course, continue his regular postings on Cantopop which he regard so highly.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Soccer174 (talk • contribs)
- The problem with the above speech is that everyone will look at it and think, "This is just a blocked editor standing on a soap-box making a speech." If you want to actually achieve any good results, you'll have to act within the rules. That means no personal attacks, no harassing other editors, remaining civil in discussions, and following the dispute resolution guidelines. If you can keep your conduct within these boundaries, you have a good chance of countering bias within wikipedia - and admins will try to help you. If not, your edits will be seen as disruptive, and admins will work to prevent you from editing at all. It's your choice. SHEFFIELDSTEELTALK 20:55, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
Reply to SheffieldSteel: So now I cannot get my points across. And the person who insulted my culture got away scot-free. And nobody punish the initiator.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Soccer174 (talk • contribs)
- You are quite right. That's exactly what I was talking about. If you want to be able to get your point across, you have to play by the rules. Otherwise you give your opponents the perfect tool to silence you. SHEFFIELDSTEELTALK 21:16, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
Reply to SheffieldSteel: So even Wikiproject members resort to such unscrupulous tricks. Rest assure that I will be back. I am not letting this matter rest so easily. I can forgive but I will not forget.
Let's bring the argument here
[edit]Ok, now that you're calmed, I want to bring the argument here so you understand my view and points on this matter and unlike what steel said, I did not deliberately "dob" you in so you get blocked. First of all, I don't see how cantonese/cantonese culture got into this argument. My whole rationale in the nomination was just saying that the origin-by-origin to nation-by-nation approach is getting too trivial. Imagine this. I'm a Hakka living Boston, USA and famous. I will have, "Hakka People", "Hakka Bostoners", "Hakka Americans", "Chinese American" etc etc as my categories. Don't you think that is trivial? And how many ethnic Hakka people living in the Fujian actually has an article on wikipedia? Very little. So in the end, the majority of Hakka-people's articles will have a dual category. Unnecessary really. Plus, a lot of the people you categorized originate from the Hakka-area, and probably never been there. Take me for an example. I know I originate from Dongguan, but my father, my grandfather and I have never even been there. If I ever have an article in wikipedia, I don't mind having "People from Dongguan" as a catergory, but to have "Dongguan people living in Australia", "Dongguan-Australians", "Chinese-Australians" all together, makes it very trivial. I hope I made it clear. Dengero (talk) 00:26, 25 October 2008 (UTC)
1. Contrary to what you think, I do not think it is trivial at all. There are hundreds more of trivial categories I can find on Wikipedia and nobody it seem has bother to ask for them to be removed. As a matter of fact, it enhance the presentation of Hakka information on Wikipedia a great deal. Take for example a Hakka Malaysian who has visited Category:Hakka People - http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Category:Hakka_people He will be very curious and eager to find out which of the 219 persons listed is a Hakka Malaysian. And instead of looking at each and every of the 219 persons (needing a great deal of time and effort) to find out, a category Hakka Malaysians has been created for him so that he can find them easily. This is what Wikipedia is all about. And as Wikipedia grow, the number of 219 persons will grow proportionally. And having Hakka Malaysians, Hakka Singaporeans, Hakka Taiwanese, I could not exclude Hakka HongKongers, as Hong Kong has more than 1 million Hakkas, conservatively speaking. Half of the population in New Territories are Hakkas in the old days, and nowadays, many of the new immigrants and mainland workers in HK come from Hakka-speaking counties in Guangdong. Again, take note that Category:Hakka Taiwanese and Category:Hakka Singaporeans were not created by me, but by 2 other persons. I believe they share my sentiment, which is why they created them. They have been around for some time, and nobody in Taiwan or Singapore has protested. And Hakkas all over the world will be happy to see such categoriztion, including Hong Kong Hakkas.
2. If there is only 1 famous Hakka in Boston, who will be interested in a Category:Bostan Hakkas? But if there are a few million Chinese in Boston and many prominent Hakkas amongst them, then it is a different story. Until now, I could not even provide justification for myself to create a Category:Hakka Americans, as the majority of them do not state their ancestry. There is just no significance in creating one.
3. Does one have to visit their ancestral land to lay claim to be Hakka? Millions of overseas Chinese have been persecuted in their adopted homeland. In Indonesia and many other countries, they have to give up their Chinese names, and Chinese writings were banned for many decades. But they still practised their ancestral customs with pride. They will tell you that they are proud of their Chinese heritage. They are proud Hakkas, proud Cantonese, proud Hokkiens, etc. Their ancestors left China as far back as 500 years ago. People in HK may prefer to identify themselves by their ancestral counties, eg Dongguan, Meixian. But overseas Chinese place little importance on this. The differentiation is on Hakka, Cantonese, Hokkien, etc.
4. Hakka has enjoyed a revival in Taiwan. Even some young people who are non-Hakkas make an effort to learn Hakka. The same cannot be said in Hong Kong, although Hong Kong was the first to moot the idea and hosted the 1st World Hakka Congress. There used to be Hakka schools in Hong Kong, but the British decided to use Cantonese as the main medium of communication in most aspects of life in HK, mainly to dissociate Hongkongers from putonghua-speaking Communist Chinese. Some HK movie stars like Alex Man, Jordan Chan, etc have always state proudly of their Hong Kong Hakka heritage. And in recent years, some of the HK television serials have included Hakka in the dialogue when the setting is at Hakka walled villages in New Territories. Even Dongguan has substantial Hakka population, but most people think that it is a pure Cantonese county. So in future, Hakka descendants of Dongguan in HK will just identify themselves as from Dongguan, and they are Cantonese, even when their ancestors are Hakkas.
I see that my earlier entries in http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2008_October_21#Category:Hakka_Hongkongers have been removed. So can someone post the above information there for me, so that every one can read it? Soccer174 (talk) 07:46, 25 October 2008 (UTC)
Dengero - immature??
[edit]- I have been waiting for your reply. But instead I found this from your postings: http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:Suspected_sock_puppets/Soccer174 -- "However, the suspected sock has a rather different writing style, so I'm not very sure."
I can't help but laugh at your immaturity. Trigger-happy again. Soccer174 (talk) 07:38, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
- You probably have not noticed, but I don't spend my whole day on wikipedia. I would like to say please be civil, as I have respected and tolerated you, and I would appreciate the same. That said, your points are valid, and it would be great if next time you wrote all that at the start instead of hurling insults first. And finally no, I'm not a cantonese chauvinist (I don't even know what that word means). As for now, feel free to wait until your restriction period is over, and express your points in a calm and mannered way. Cheers. Dengero (talk) 09:53, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
Reply: Alright. I will be civil. In fact, I always do. It is just that the matter has really incensed me. I have been trying to establish what kind of person you are. As you are a regular Cantopop culture contributer, your action towards another Chinese sub-culture (this matter) just made me think that it was not a mere coincidence. It gives the impression that you have an agenda and motive. But I will give you the benefit of the doubt. And I will put in my points when the restriction period is over. Friendly advice
[edit]I'd just like to point out to Soccer174 that I'm watching this page for your benefit - mainly to make sure that no one posts any taunting remarks for the duration of this block, since you cannot go anywhere else.
Soccer174, when your block expires, you'll need to take care to avoid making personal attacks on other editors. To summarise: comment on content, not the contributor. This means do discuss what is best for Wikipedia, talk about what sources are available, and give your opinion about what should go into articles; do not insult other editors, speculate about their motivations, offer criticism of their character flaws, comment or guess about their ethnic group, religous beliefs, sexuality, etc.
These principles apply to all editors, at all times, and they help to keep discussions productive. When this block expires, I hope to see you contributing without distractions and without getting in further trouble. Therefore, this advice is offered, in a spirit of friendliness. Regards, SHEFFIELDSTEELTALK 17:05, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
Reply: Thanks for the friendly advice. As a matter of fact, I do have some suggestions for Wikipedia. I will see if I want to put them in writing later. Actually, I prefer to think of Dengero as a nice person. Soccer174 (talk) 17:46, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

Apology to Dengero
[edit]I wish to apologize to Dengero for my earlier remarks about him, and which I hereby retract totally. He had earlier given me the impression that he was adamant in removing the category. I may have over-reacted and did not understand the workings and rules of Wikipedia well. As I have been asked not to speculate about his personality, I have chosen to believe that he is a young person of nice and good character, and had wanted to make Wikipedia better. I hope he will continue his work in Wikipedia.

Unreferenced BLPs
[edit]Hello Soccer174! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 5 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to insure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. if you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 2 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

Suggestion
[edit]Reply: Thanks for the info! I am just trying my bit to improve the contents. Every now and then, there will be people coming in to question the contents of articles and nominate them for deletion, especially when there are no references. There are other information in the book Slaying the Dragon by Tan Ooi Boon, like the type of guns Ah Kong members use. Are they valid? Should it be mentioned? Thanks again!
Reply: The book "Slaying the Dragon" is available at the libraries. The contain several pages of info on Ah Kong. Check it out if you have the time.
I read the book and is rather inaccurate. Do you have any idea what is the Chinese title for the movie "Singapore Connections" mentioned in the book? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Truseker (talk • contribs) 19:11, 20 April 2011 (UTC)
Category:Singaporean people
[edit]Hello, I noticed you added "Category:Singaporean people" to articles like "Han Sai Por". Please don't do this. An article should not be placed in both a parent category and a subcategory of that category. For example, since "Han Sai Por" is in "Category:Singaporean people of Chinese descent" which is already a subcategory of "Category:Singaporean people", it shouldn't be placed in "Singaporean people" as well. If you need more help with categorizing articles, please post a message at "Wikipedia talk:SGpedians' notice board". Thanks. — Cheers, JackLee –talk– 17:32, 20 March 2011 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Choti Lamsam
[edit]The article Choti Lamsam has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Unsourced since November 2008
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Fiddle Faddle 08:17, 31 October 2014 (UTC)
