Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because it has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia. Also, your username gives the impression that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or website, which is against the username policy.

If you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization, you may request unblock and a username change. In your reasons, you must follow all these steps:

  1. Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement; and
  2. Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked; and
  3. Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked; and
  4. Provide a new username.

To do this, insert the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken and in use by another account. You can search to see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is still available.

Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. Fathoms Below (talk) 23:15, 19 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This article was not made in promotion of the band and we have not and will not receive any compensation for this article. We are simply trying to provide accessible and valid information to anyone who is curious. It does not promote the band, it directs more traffic to Wikipedia.org, increases the knowledge-base of Wikipedia, and would be considered a reliable primary source document since it is autobiographical. Is Wikipedia interested in hosting valid, non-promotional information or is it more interested in gate-keeping? It was my understanding that the ethos of Wikipedia was to be informative and to provide useful information to the public. Snootywarren (talk) 02:13, 20 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
(Non-administrator comment) Hi Snootywarren. Wikipedia accounts are operated by individuals, and individuals only; it is against the guidelines to share an account or give the impression that it is operated by a group. Your username is only one of the reasons you were blocked, however. Advertising is not allowed. Regardless of whether you consider your edits to be “informative” or not, Wikipedia is not a site for self-promotion. Fancy Refrigerator (talk) 03:47, 20 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This user's request to be unblocked to request a change in username has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without a good reason (see the blocking policy). Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

I am an individual, I use this account independently Snootywarren (talk) 04:22, 20 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

That would be fine as a new username. However, you are mistaken about the purpose of Wikipedia. It is not for merely providing information, and it is not a place for people/groups/businesses to tell about themselves.(see the autobiography policy as well as primary sources) That's promotional here, you don't have to be talking up the topic or selling something. (see WP:YESPROMO and the Five Pillars) A Wikipedia article summarizes what independent reliable sources with significant coverage have chosen on their own to say about the topic, showing how it meets the special Wikipedia definition of notability- like a notable band. If that's "gatekeeping", guilty as charged. Wikipedia is not a collection of pages about things that exist. There are websites with less stringent requirements if you just want to tell the world about your band. Our requirements are what make Wikipedia one of the most used websites on this planet. If you'd like to, for now, edit about topics other than your band so you can learn more about what we do here and how we do it by editing in other areas, please tell what else you might edit about. Once you have a good edit history showing your understanding of relevant policies, you may later be permitted to indirectly edit about your band, but not now. I am declining your request. 331dot (talk) 10:00, 20 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
