Welcome![edit]

Hello, Smith, craig warren, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited was Craig Warren Smith, which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, visit the Teahouse, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! —C.Fred (talk) 18:43, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Fred: Thanks for the message from you 13 days ago , February 28. It indicated that my Craig Warren Smith profiel on wikipedia because it is way out of that. That'sJavascript:void(0); because it was blocked so that it is unable to be updated. I answered messages from Chelsea who offered to help me update the profile. I messaged her many times and she has not responded. Can you help me. I can send you and updated, edited profile with reference. May I ask your help by showing this new version to you to get your feedback before posting it. I am lecturing in dffferent natons this month. It is embarrasing to me that, when people check the wikpedia profile before coming to my remote lectures, they will see that there may be some question about the accuracy of the information in that profile. Please kindly help me revise this problem. Thanks, Craig Smith, craig warren (talk) 18:23, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The deletion process has completed with a decision to redirect to the article about Meaningful Broadband. There is no longer a profile to update, so you no longer will have to worry about people finding inaccurate information here. MrOllie (talk) 18:27, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

February 2024[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm MrOllie. Wikipedia is written by people who have a wide diversity of opinions, but we try hard to make sure articles have a neutral point of view. Your recent edit seemed less than neutral and has been removed. If you think this was a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. MrOllie (talk) 15:54, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Ollie,
I am Craig Warren Smith. Someone passed your comment to me about the Craig Warren Smith profile on wikipedia.indicating that my profile was flagged for deliion Clearly, the profile is way out of date and my colleagues who know of my work worldwide could not update is because it is blocked. If you think that there is wording that is not factual or biased, let me know. Now apparently it has been scheduled for erasure. I have moved from one nation to another in recent years, now as a activist and academic in Mexico, focused on an implementing an ethical model of AI for the Global South. I am sending off an article to Foreign Affairs and The Atlantic on this theme whose editors will surely turn to WIkipedia to know about me. . But it is embarrasing to me that the wikipedia refernce makes it look like I have been lying. I have prominent colleagues from around the world who could contact you to verify the information in my bio is correct. . There is not much info about me in USA sources because I have been operating out of the USA in several (non-english-speaking) countries for many years. How should I proceed. Should I ask them to edit my wikipedia profile or should I ask one of them to edit my entire wikipedia profiile? This is an urgent problem. I appreciate that you are a wikipedia volunteer which must be very difficult in this era of deepflakes. I'm actually fascinated how Wikipedia somehow achieves the "wisdom of crowds". I know you must make a neutral stance. Kindly advise me: How do I proceed? (I'm in Mexico City time zone.) Sincerely, Craig Smith, craig warren (talk) 18:23, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You should not ask anyone else to edit on your behalf, as the conflict of interest would then extend to them. The deletion process has completed with a decision to redirect to the article about Meaningful Broadband. There is no longer a profile to update, so you no longer will have to worry about people finding inaccurate information here. - MrOllie (talk) 18:28, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Let me help you update your article[edit]

Hello Professor Smith, I'm Chelsea. I came across your article via a "Recent Changes" function on Wikipedia, where it was clear even before clicking through that you were attempting to edit an article about yourself. That's incredibly frowned upon on Wikipedia: see WP:COI. This sort of thing is meaningful to me as a fellow academic (though nowhere near the levels of contribution you've clearly had!); as an ethicist in disruptive technology one of my areas of primary focus is the ways in which none of us can be truly "neutral" when it comes to ourselves and those we love. In an encyclopedia context, that's why it's good to have others filter and maintain the entries on us (which don't really "belong" to us in any sense).

That being said, you're clearly beyond notable, and again I'm really impressed by your accomplishments and the nuanced path your career has taken. The article is very out of date, with most of the reference links I just checked up on being completely dead links.

If you keep trying to paste large amounts of your own content into an article about you, you will be blocked by the administrators here: it happens multiple times every day, from what I've seen. But what *is* allowed is for you to collaborate with someone like me, who is unconnected to you in real life, and process the changes you'd like to see and how those can be included in a way that's appropriate to Wikipedia's labyrinthine policies and guidelines.

Beyond just a thirst for accuracy, my offer to collaborate arises from genuine shared interests and admiration: at the beginning of my career I focused on Digital Divide issues in collaboration with Internet Society and the IEEE, and now I come to bump into someone who literally paved the way towards those important initiatives. I also really appreciate the focus on mindfulness you've noted in your later work, but the prose about that was really unencyclopedic and would need to be radically reworked.

Most importantly, we need verifiable sources for all the statements in the article- this is where you could help me far beyond me just trying to improve the article without your input, as you'd be best suited to help find things about yourself! In turn, I can guide towards which sources are considered "reliable" for policy here.

Let me know what you think by either clicking the "Talk" after my name and leaving a message on my talk page, or by replying to me here. The way I would envision this progressing would be first reviewing the Conflict of Interest docs I shared above and getting that all squared away, then planning "out loud" together on the article's talk page so that there's a transparent record of our reasoning as we improve the page.

If you do continue to try to paste text into the article, that's called edit warring, and myself and other editors have to continue to revert to protect the encyclopedia. I'm sure everything you're adding is true, but the core of Wikipedia is verifiability- readers should be able to click through to sources and review for themselves where information came from. No matter what, I thank you for your epic accomplishments in academia and computing- I hope you can appreciate the consensus-based open knowledge experiment that Wikipedia serves as, as one of those unique realities enable by the new tech you've taught so well about!

Deae Chelsea,
I reread your kend note to me today. I appreciate very much your offer to help me update the article. I would also be pleased to get this help from you in particular -- someone who actually knows the term "digital divide" and are tied to academic circles of IEEE and to notions of ethics and technology/digital interface in this sector. This moment happens to be a time when I am doing onlne lectures on my new initiative for stakeholders in Indonesia and Mexico, The focus is Meaningful AI, which is an extension of my longstanding prior work on Meaningful Broadband and digital divide.. I am now in Latin America and not in Asia, where my work is less known. I have ideas about how to update and verify my wikipedia page but I had been unable to add updated information (or interact with colleagues who might do so), because the profile was blocked and now scheduled for deletion. In the past 30 years, I have lived in developing nations where the legacy language is not Englilsh, which has made it more difficult to track my work in vaious countries. I very much needs your help and would appreciate any assistance you might offer. I am now very much focused on the next phase of closing digital divide by activating a path to governance of AI that would reduce inequality of wealth in the Global South. I will check this page daily to see if there is a reponse from you. I can answer texts in Spanish as well as English. Warm regards, Craig Smith, craig warren (talk) 19:05, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Chelsea,
I hope I can interact with you soon. I mentioned that I don't have many references to my previous work because they have been in other countries and I have not retained an academic base in the USA.
To explain this problem, I was in a university in Thailand for ten years to activate government policy to close digital divide via a method called Meaningful Broadband, which was adopted by the Thai government . Here are blog references about my work from a prominent academic expert in Thailand .

I don't know if these references are valid for Wiki[edia which shows I not lying about my work that was on the wikipedia page. I can find other references in other countries that show my acivity, confirming what is in my wikpedia profile. Currently, my blocked profile make it appear that I have been dishonest about this profile.

Chealsea: Help! I am preparing talks to people who will check me out to see a talk page scheduled for deltion. I imagine you are a volunteeer editor and have many other higher priority issues to attend to. If you cannot help me with this issue, can you kindly refer me to someone else who may have time to guid my updating. I truly do not know how to work with Wikipedia except to make these comments. to you.
