Notable Welshmen
Thought this might interest you. I believe it's public domain in the US and could possibly be uploaded to the wiki commons, not sure about the UK though. Tons of missing entries in that.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:47, 2 April 2016 (UTC)
This too, Notable Welsh Musicians of Today should be PD as author died in 1917. How do we get these uploaded to the commons? A lot of the biographies could probably go on the hotlist but might take time ;-)♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:09, 2 April 2016 (UTC)
- Those links aren't working. Sionk (talk) 15:54, 2 April 2016 (UTC)
- We'll see if Crisco 1492 can get them uploaded.♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:05, 2 April 2016 (UTC)

- Interesting. A mammoth job for someone travelling around different libraries by stage coach! I haven't found anyone I recognise in the index yet, but a handy resource all the same. Sionk (talk) 11:05, 3 April 2016 (UTC)
- There's a lot of names, a lot of Reverends but a lot of them in the book don't really assert notability, they'd need other sources to try to compile something. But worth a browse all the same. The Shrewsbury article deals with Welsh cloth and is closely linked to Wales, the Wales link was good enough for me, though as you say, based in England.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:27, 3 April 2016 (UTC)
- Tenuous. But not as much as the fact someone is currently winning the competition by writing articles, that they added themselves to the 'core articles' list, about ships with the "Welsh" names Nottingham, Essex, Cornwall and Cordelia. I'd be throwing my toys out of the pram if I was taking part in the competition :) Sionk (talk) 22:48, 3 April 2016 (UTC)

"Women are everywhere"
Hi Sionk. I'm an editor (not very active till now) of the Italian Wikipedia, where the gender gap is a real issue. I'm trying to participate to an IEG with the project "Women are everywhere". You will find the draft at this link https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:IEG/Women_are_everywhere It would be great if you could have a look at it. I need any kind of suggestion or advice to improve it. Support or endorsement would be fantastic. Many thanks, --Kenzia (talk) 19:27, 9 April 2016 (UTC)
Listed buildings
Hi, I was wondering if you could help red link the buildings in the county lists of Grade II* listed buildings in Wales. A good chance of a fair few being started over the weekend. Later in the month or next time we'll have more started too. I think we should have articles on all Grade II* listed buildings. Listing as many of them as possible on the missing hotlist would be great too.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:00, 15 April 2016 (UTC)
- Unfortunately I'm busy this weekend with only occasional access to my computer. There are somany Grade II* listed buildings it is a major task! Sionk (talk) 22:53, 16 April 2016 (UTC)
Deleted page
Hi Sionk, a page that I contributed to (https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/UNC_Clef_Hangers) was recently merged into the parent university's page (https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/University_of_North_Carolina_at_Chapel_Hill#Organizations_and_activities). The request to delete the page was quickly turned into a vote by 3 people, which then settled on merging the article, which it looks like you did yesterday. This whole process took about a week, and didn't give time for sufficient input to keep the pages separate. I'm happy to make the case to unmerge/undelete the UNC Clef Hangers page, but I'm not familiar with the process to do so. Since you were the one who merged the pages, is this something you can help me figure out? Thank you in advance! alfadur (talk) 19:47, 21 April 2016 (UTC) Alfadur
- You should probably try Wikipedia:Deletion review and make your argument there. Articles for Deletion isn't a vote, by the way. The closing administrator will base their decision on the arguments presented. To be honest, I'm surprised you weren't notified of the deletion discussion, because it looks like you were the original author of the article. But otherwise, all the arguments agreed that there wasn't enough evidence of independent notability of the group. Personally I think the decision was sensible, there's no evidence the Clef Hangers gave been noticed outside of their own university. Sionk (talk) 20:19, 21 April 2016 (UTC)
- Sionk is there a way to get the version of the deleted UNC Clef Hangers page before it was removed? Many of us used that page to track past events, discography, and awards, but I can't seem to find it anywhere now that it has been removed. I'd also like to copy the version of it in case the page ever gets relisted. Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alfadur (talk • contribs) 12:49, 25 April 2016 (UTC)
- Did you answer this user? If you did please link. I note that you have nominated Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ysgol Penybryn, Tywyn successfully. Where's the history page - so that we can review? On cy-wiki every school is notable; and it's about time that became the norm on en-wiki articles related to Wales. Can I suggest you turn to England and start deleting their stuff, and let Welsh matters be. Monsyn (talk) 19:05, 2 March 2018 (UTC)
- No. It's time for everything related to Wales to have its own set of criteria; we are not sheep. enwiki articles related to Wales should rethink their notablability or just copy cywiki: all schools are notable, all authors are notable, all Welsh albums are notable. But do not go round deleting Welsh stuff. If you want to do something - go round deleting schools based in England, Hungary, USA.... Monsyn (talk) 19:41, 2 March 2018 (UTC)

Emboldening listed buildings
Why are you emboldening entries not on the core list? It's going to make it very difficult to accurately tot up the total core articles tackled now if you're now emboldening any listed building started. What I'd suggest is emboldening them in italics or something, which distinguishes them from the core articles tackled.♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:52, 23 April 2016 (UTC)
- Grade II* listed buildings are on the core list, per Wikipedia:WikiProject_Wales/Awaken_the_Dragon/Missing_article_hotlist#Grade_II.2A_listed_buildings. Sionk (talk) 16:58, 23 April 2016 (UTC)
- I think I've completely lost the purpose of this project. I'm taking no further part. Sionk (talk) 17:10, 23 April 2016 (UTC)
That's the missing article list. The core list is at Wikipedia:WikiProject Wales/Awaken the Dragon/Core articles. I have no problems with identifying Grade I/II* listed buildings started, but I just wanted a way to distinguish between those and the ones on the core list so they can be counted. Have no idea what you mean by "I've completely lost the purpose of this project", the purpose of it has been very clear on it from the start and core articles continue to be improved, and the results have been amazing. It's as clear now as ever. If you don't want to be part of something which is the best thing to happen to the Wales project on wikipedia because of a minor disagreement with highlighting that's up to you. I've been testing out a few things with this, once we find the optimum mechanism on this nothing will be changed. Sorry you feel so critical of this, but running it is far from easy, and I've put a great deal of my own time and energy into this.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:18, 23 April 2016 (UTC)
I'm happy to put the new ones started on Grade I/II* listed buildings on the missing articles list and not the core one in bold italics, that way I can count the core improvements. Would that be agreeable to you?♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:20, 23 April 2016 (UTC)
I started Church of St Michael, Penbryn the other day, you didn't embolden that one.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:50, 23 April 2016 (UTC)
- I've actively participated since February. I spent many hours creating the missing photos hotlist, for example. If you find the purpose, rules and direction clear then I certainly don't. I guess a project based on an entire nation has such a broad ambit it gets in danger of becoming confusing, everything to everybody, or unmanageable. It's not a major issue that I'm not taking any further part, because we're 23 days into a 30 day project. Nice to see a large number of genuinely useful, quality articles being created. Apologies for messing up your scoring system. Sionk (talk) 18:32, 23 April 2016 (UTC)
Well, there's a danger, but this initial contest was always about trying different things to see what works and what doesn't. I've been trying to cram into it a variety of different goals just for testing things. If we get support for another one the likelihood is that it will be a shorter one, no longer than two weeks, have a narrow focus and no complex bonus point systems, and prizes spread out in smaller amounts for targetting the most articles. So everything would be very straightforward. I need to run this to try things and am in a much better position now to be able to run something to produce the optimum results and avoid that danger. There was a reason why I didn't revert you or mention the bolding earlier, and sadly it seems my perception of you was right. Your contributions will be missed Sionk, I'm sorry that you feel like this.♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:51, 23 April 2016 (UTC)
- "sadly it seems my perception of you was right" - what on earth is that supposed to mean?! Sionk (talk) 08:48, 24 April 2016 (UTC)
- When I disputed the scoring with the photographs you were quick to criticise my own scoring system for the others. With this, you did the same thing again, this time with a sarcastic comment about complex scoring, which you quickly removed. I got the impression that you'e not one to be challenged on things if you want to keep the peace.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:33, 24 April 2016 (UTC)
- I can't see this ever being a productive relationship if you can't take alternative suggestions or deal with differences of opinion. Wherever the alleged 'sarcastic' comment you mention was made, if it was quickly removed then where is the issue? It's a shame everyone on Wikipedia is so ready to pick a fight, before considering other points of view. Sionk (talk) 15:08, 24 April 2016 (UTC)
"Or have you made so many changes you've forgotten yourself?!". the comment was soon replaced with "I quit". I don't go looking to pick fights, but if somebody responds aggressively when anybody even slightly questions anything they do I notice. From my perspective it's also a shame when people retaliate with a sarcastic comment/insult when somebody disagrees with their point of view. I tried to be constructive with "What I'd suggest is emboldening them in italics or something, which distinguishes them from the core articles tackled." but this wasn't agreeable to you Sionk and rather than discuss and resolve something you quit. If you quit whenever anybody asks why you do something, tha's not exactly productive either is it?♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:58, 25 April 2016 (UTC)
- Hold on, I "quit" before you suggested a method to indicate listed buildings, contrary to your version of events. I quickly deleted a comment which I thought you might take the wrong way. To be honest, I no longer have an interest in Awaken the Dragon or any interest in any further bombarding of edits of my Talk page. Please leave me alone and get on with your project. authority control, worldcat identity
I am trying to add authority control, worldcat identity (authority control worldcat identity = http://www.worldcat.org/identities/np-umerle,%20julie/) to this article you flagged up some time ago. I cannot seem to get it right and it doesn't show on it. Please could you help? Many thanks. Vaishal (talk) 12:06, 21 May 2016 (UTC)

- OK. probably not relevent anyway. Vaishal (talk) 10:34, 22 May 2016 (UTC)
The Adventures of Sebastian Cole
Hi, you tagged The Adventures of Sebastian Cole for notability last summer. I've added a couple of references to reviews in NYT, Variety and Entertainment Weekly. Do you think there's enough there to establish notability? 78.146.255.247 (talk) 12:34, 22 June 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks for that! I've removed the tag. Sionk (talk) 18:08, 22 June 2016 (UTC)
Out of the Blue
Please return the alumni listing to the Out of the Blue wiki page: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Out_of_the_Blue_(British_band). That took a lot of effort for people to compile. Thank you. 12.17.170.22 (talk) 21:13, 13 July 2016 (UTC)
- Wikipedia's guidelines prohibit lists of living people that are unsourced (WP:LISTPEOPLE). Please save that sort of information for elsewhere, for example the group's own website. The whole article (and Out of the Blue discography) suggests someone is using Wikipedia as promotional web hosting for a barely notable music group. Sionk (talk) 21:36, 13 July 2016 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with File:Sickboy Temple Bristol 09.jpg
Thank you for uploading File:Sickboy Temple Bristol 09.jpg.
This image is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such images would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a screenshot of a computer game or movie. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original image must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.
While the image description page states the source and copyright status of the derivative work, it only names the creator of the original work without specifying the status of their copyright over the work.
Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the original image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.
If you have uploaded other derivative works, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. Thanks again for your cooperation. Kelly hi! 08:28, 5 August 2016 (UTC)

Proposal to rename Church of Ireland, Wales categories

Hi there. I've started a new initiative, the Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. It's a long term goal to bring about 10,000 article improvements to the UK and Ireland. Through two contests involving just six or seven weeks of editing so far we've produced over 1500 improvements. Long term if we have more people chipping it and adding articles they've edited independently as well from all areas of the UK then reaching that target is all possible. I think it would be an amazing achievement to see 10,000 article improvements by editors chipping in. If you support this and think you might want to contribute towards this long term please sign up in the Contributors section. No obligations, just post work on anything you feel like whenever you want, though try to avoid basic stubs if possible as we're trying to reduce the overall stub count and improve general comprehension and quality. Thanks.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:44, 30 August 2016 (UTC)
Wales Coast Path
I like your changes here, thanks. My objection to the previous version was the wordiness with things like "component sections", but I'm delighted that you were able to sort it out so much better and provide more information to boot (as it were). Thanks and best wishes DBaK (talk) 10:09, 14 September 2016 (UTC)
- Cheers! Those sub-articles were a result of a Wikimedia project sponsored by the Wales Tourist Board, several of them aren't recognised paths in their own right so it's dubious whether the articles should even exist. I was being a bit 'pointy' but at least accurate :) Sionk (talk) 04:00, 15 September 2016 (UTC)

Hi, at Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge we're striving to bring about 10,000 article improvements and creations for the UK and Ireland and inspire others to create more content. In order to achieve this we need diversity of content, in all parts of the UK and Ireland on all topics. Eventually a regional contest will be held for all parts of the British Isles, like they were for Wales and the Wedt Country. We currently have just over 1900 articles and need contributors! If you think you'd be interested in collaborating on this and helping reach the target quicker, please sign up and begin listing your entries there as soon as possible! California Water Plan Article
Hello Sionk,
Thank you so much for reviewing and creating my article, California Water Plan, and linking it to the Water in California article. I will embed links in the titles of the volumes of the California Water Plan Update 2013, rather than link to the volumes via end references. I really should have thought of this before. I believe that will eliminate the use of all primary sources/end references, except perhaps one (I need to check that), as I do for a number of terms and proper names that appear in the article. When I have done that, I will proceed with removal of the template message.
I do have a question about the photos I had uploaded and laid out within the article. When I uploaded them, I could not find what I considered the proper tag for them. By word of John Dunnigan, a career attorney with the California Department of Water Resources (DWR), all photos that I included are in the public domain. I added a comment to that effect with each uploaded photo. They were taken by photographers employed by DWR, which is a State of California agency. So they are not copyrighted or owned. I thought those notes might make that clear. I even included Mr. Dunnigan's contact information at DWR, which he invited me to do. I would greatly appreciate any counsel you might be able to offer, with regard to how I can clarify for Wikipedia editors that the photos are not owned or copyrighted. They are available for use by the public, and they cannot be copyrighted by anyone.
Thank you, again!

Europe 10,000 Challenge invite
Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:09, 7 November 2016 (UTC)
Gebler Tooth
you deleted the Reference from Newsweek for Gebler Tooth page. You said there was no reference to Sasha or Carlo Gebler in the Article. Yet there are TWO QUITE LARGE PHOTOGRAPHS of Sasha Gebler in that Newsweek article, and Edna O'Brien also refers to her children in it. Thanks ~~
- Well, exactly, saying O'Brien has two children doed not prove the two childrens' names are Sasha and Carlo. In contrast, the "Country Matters" Guardian article clearly states the relationships, so the Newsweek article becomes even more unnecessary.
- I was interested to see a new Wikipedia article about an architecture firm. However, if it largely relies on mentions of one of the partners because of his famous mother, or uses little more than brief mentions, or company website sources, it probably indicates the company isn't too notable (despite being around for several decades). I'm hoping you know of some decent news/magazine sources about the company, before someone decides WP:GNG isn't met. Sionk (talk) 20:26, 8 November 2016 (UTC)
In actual fact the first Newsweek article photograph is captioned: "O'BRIEN WALKING IN THE LAKE DISTRICT WITH HER SON SASHA GEBLER". Surely I don't need to point that out to you?
Might I also refer you to citations I've found from Architects Journal, and other solid sources, which I continue to build upon. Yesterday, the Cambridge University Library furnished me with a list of older articles on Gebler Tooth's work, from sources such as THE SUNDAY TIMES, the GUARDIAN and the Times (daily), Architects Journal, Building Design and Design Week. Two of the writers - Marcus Binney and Maev Kennedy - are quite well respected writers. Some of these old articles are not easily traceable online, which makes it harder to link the citations into the Wiki article. Perhaps you've come across this issue in the past, with pre-digital age citations? Does pre-digital automatically mean the source doesn't exist or that I'm a liar, or the subject is not notable? I would hope not. It simply means it takes longer to provide citations that I thought would be easy to trace.
I'd rather not mention Edna O'Brien at all. But, despite the fact that GTA employs 50 people full time, who have collectively completed a large body of high profile projects including several for the British Olympic Association 2012 and BAA and etc, they seem to have been too busy to send out their news to the press or to do interviews. I will take the O'Brien links out, including the Guardian article, as soon as I get the online links to the articles provided by Cambridge. BTW, if anybody imagines one can employ 50 architects year in year out on the basis of having a famous mother, they really need their heads examined. I'm simply trying to write a good article on a successful and notable architectural practice. Please don't try to stop me just because you personally don't rate these architects. Thanks ~~
- What you you make of the image that's been uploaded? I'm no expert, but it looks like a clear copyright violation to me. And it wouldn't be the first time. Deb (talk) 20:03, 23 November 2016 (UTC)
- Well, I suppose for now it helps understand the subject, being an image of a magazine article that isn't available online. It describes Gebler Tooth as 'management architects', for example, which hardly suggests they played a lot in the creative process. Sionk (talk) 20:10, 23 November 2016 (UTC)
- I gather Edna O'Brien has abandoned the holiday home now. Deb (talk) 22:04, 23 November 2016 (UTC)

New Page Review needs your help
Hi Sionk,
As an AfC reviewer you're probably aware that a new user right has been created for patrolling new pages (you might even have been granted the right already, and admins have it automatically).
Since July there has been a very serious backlog at Special:NewPagesFeed of over 14,000 pages, by far the worst since 2011, and we need an all out drive to get this back down to just a few hundred that can be easily maintained in the future. Unlike AfC, these pages are already in mainspace, and the thought of what might be there is quite scary. There are also many good faith article creators who need a simple, gentle push to the Tea House or their pages converted to Draft rather than being deleted.
Although New Page Reviewing can occasionally be somewhat more challenging than AfC, the criteria for obtaining the right are roughly the same. The Page Curation tool is even easier to use than the Helper Script, so it's likely that most AfC reviewers already have more than enough knowledge for the task of New Page Review.
It is hoped that AfC reviewers will apply for this right at WP:PERM and lend a hand. You'll need to have read the page at WP:NPR and the new tutorial.

Creately Wikipedia Re-Submission
Hi Mr. Sionk,

Creately Wikipedia Re-Submission
Hi Mr. Sionk,
I have update and re-submitted according to what you have mentioned. I understand that product features can sound like advertising, but Its really confusing that some information cannot be there, for an example: integrations are important information for a resource like this. And I checked few other pages similar to this and according to what you have mentioned they have violated every rule that there is eg: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Lucidchart and 90% of their sources are own blog posts. I'm truly confused. Please guide me through! Shalinrc (talk) 07:32, 1 December 2016 (UTC)
- As I'm sure you know, the article has already been deleted from Wikipedia recently. The independent reliable news coverage isn't strong at all. I agree, the Lucidchart article is not great, but at least the product has been more widely reviewed. Hello Sion, I see that you reviewed the draft article we submitted on the Design with Memory sustainable design strategies. Perhaps this type of subject is difficult for Wikipedia? These design strategies were used as a teaching tool to challenge professional and student industrial designers to create economically viable sustainable product design and architecture. Our goal with the article is simply to make those design strategies generally available. It was a part of the last two rounds of the International Design Resource Awards program, so sorry if that was confusing. Those last two rounds, the 5th and 6th, were sponsored primarily by the government of Japan as an economic development initiative. I am retired now, and there is no advertising or commercial benefit to either this information, or to the archive site of the Design Competition. They are just information. And I would say that it is very important and relevant information, as education on this subject is literally critical for the health and well-fare of everyone. The notability of the program is verified I think by the quality of the funders and the exhibits and coverage in the design magazines. Also the entries are in books on sustainable design, so I am at a loss as to what more we can do?? There were more than 1,000 entries from 23 different countries. Also, the quality of the jurors was very high. Would it help you to speak to some of the jurors to verify the usefulness and importance of the Design with Memory teaching paths? I can suggest one there in the UK associated with Kingston University, and two here in the US who you can easily contact and talk with if that would help. Also, I am very happy to hear any suggestions you may have on how the article can be cleaned up and re-written if necessary. I have never tried anything like this before. All the best, and thanks in advance for your help. --73.225.61.69 (talk) 18:54, 7 December 2016 (UTC)TomJ

Bridges in Wales
Hi - I believe you may have created the 'Bridges in Wales' page? A worthwhile addition, perhaps, would be 'Lady Mitford's Bridge', which crosses the Wye near to Llanstephan and is a single track, single span, suspension bridge - I was diverted over it after an accident on the A470 many years ago and only found it again recently via Google Earth. Sorry - typo - it's 'Lady Milford's Bridge' Simon 195.99.46.82 (talk) 10:38, 12 December 2016 (UTC)
- Thnaks, nice bridge. it gave me the idea to create a Llanstephan, Powys article. I don't think there's enough material to write an article about the bridge, unfortunately. Sionk (talk) 01:56, 13 December 2016 (UTC)

RL discussion
Hi Sionk, Thanks for your comments on the RL discussion. I think I was hurt because there had been a long period of time where the individual was a very nice supporter and polished up a number of articles that I wrote. I thought we were just having an academic conversation and then it felt personal to me. And, so far from the way that I felt about the subject. Perhaps I misunderstood. Your stopping the conversation was appropriate.--CaroleHenson (talk) 18:44, 17 December 2016 (UTC)
- I don't think Ipigott is someone who would make barbed comments of any kind and I'm sure he was simply talking about the subject (the book) rather than you. But it's very easy to misinterpret someone's written comments, one of the perils of Wikipedia. It was a great job you did on The Hamptons: Food, Family and History. - @CaroleHenson: I have always appreciated your articles and your work on Wikipedia and am glad to see you are progressing so well. The comments I made were intended to be nothing more than an objective assessment of whether the article should be maintained or not. As there appear to be more and more articles about women and their works which have been deleted or merged into articles about their husbands, I thought I needed to bring this out. We're all working together to improve the encyclopaedia. If you think more attention should be given to biographies about women, why not consider joining WikiProject Women in Red. I sincerely hope we can continue to work together again. No hard feelings.--Ipigott (talk) 21:24, 17 December 2016 (UTC)

- I just got up from a nap, my brain is starting to charge up again. Thanks, very much Ipigott - I have always appreciated you! Another area that I have worked on regarding women is Colorado Women's Hall of Fame. I've been just fiddling around lately, fixing articles where I can. But, my interest lies in the Women artists and Colorado Women areas.--CaroleHenson (talk) 00:31, 18 December 2016 (UTC)

Patrick Whelan, Irish Volunteer, Easter Rising 1916
Helen Larkin (talk) 14:52, 21 December 2016 (UTC)The Notability Issue - Patrick Whelan, Irish Volunteer
Hi Sionk
Thank you for taking the time to review my article on Patrick Whelan, Irish Volunteer. However, I really must take issue with your points on notability.
The guidelines I was going by were WP:ANYBIO rather than WP:SOLDIER as I think those involved in the Easter Rising aren't best judged by the standards of a military career.
Where I believe that Patrick Whelan meets the notability guidelines under WP:ANYBIO are as follows:
1) The person has received a well-known and significant award or honor:
Patrick Whelan received the 1916 Medal posthumously. Only those killed in action had their names inscribed on these medals.
Whelan House, which was named after Patrick Whelan, was erected and named at the same time as O'Rahily House next door to it. Given how important O'Rahily was to 1916, to have Whelan House contemporaneously named must be noted. Also the fact that this happened some 20 years after 1916.
As a Volunteer, Patrick is honoured annually at State Masses and all State Events pertaining to the Rising, in recognition of his contribution and sacrifice in helping to build the foundation of the Irish State. His name formed part of the logo used for the centenary events of 2016.
2) The person has made a widely recognized contribution that is part of the enduring historical record in his or her specific field:
The Easter Rising may have only lasted 6 days, but this seminal event in Irish history led to the founding of the Republic of Ireland. Patrick played his part in this significant historical event and gave his life for his country, which is a matter of note.
3) The person has an entry in the Dictionary of National Biography or similar publication:
Notable omissions of the Dictionary of Irish Biography have not gone unnoticed, so Patrick Whelan's absence from it is no surprise. Also there is a precedent for articles of notable deaths during 1916 and the preceding/proceeding years, such as Alice Brady (labour activist), Thomas Allen (Irish Volunteer), Charles Carrigan, Edward Costello, Joe Howley, and Larry Lardner.
The following sources were used as independent reliable sources for the article, with Patrick Whelan named in each publication:
- Bateson, Ray (They Died by Pearse's Side). Patrick Whelan is mentioned specifically on the back of the dust jacket.
- Bunbury, Turtle (Dublin Dockland - An Urban Voyage).
- Connell Jnr., Joseph E.A. (Who's Who in the Dublin Rising 1916)
- In addition, reference was made to the Military Archives, where Patrick's name appears on the Roll of Honour. These Archives hold the Witness Statement of the Captain of the 3rd Battalion, Joseph O'Byrne, who was standing beside Patrick when he was shot dead.
While the histories of the major figures of the Rising are well documented, Irish people are interested in the more personal stories of its participants too. Although you may not consider there to be a strong enough emphasis on Patrick from the sources listed above, it's important in this centenary year that all stories be told, so that the little pictures can help to create a bigger one and also a broader context for the event of the Easter Rising.
I was very disappointed to have missed the writing contest on Wikipedia this year, where I believe that the Patrick Whelan, Irish Volunteer article would have been of interest in the category People and Places of 1916. Could you please reconsider my submission bearing WP:ANYBIO in mind Sionk?
Thanks Helen Larkin (talk) 15:13, 16 December 2016 (UTC)
- I left feedback on your draft. It's debateable (well in fact not debateable at all) whethere everyone who is killed in a battle is notable enough for a Wikipedia write-up. Subjects need to be written about at lenght, rather than merely mentioned, to be considered widely known. Sionk (talk) 10:27, 17 December 2016 (UTC)
- Not everyone killed in battle gets a building named after them. The fact that Patrick Whelan did makes him a figure of note in Dublin, particularly as Whelan House is built next door to O'Rahilly House. The O'Rahilly was a key figure of the Easter Rising. Its difficult to be 'widely known' or indeed known at all if your story can't be told. For these reasons and those listed above could this article please be considered under WP:ANYBIO rather than WP:SOLDIER? Thanks Sionk. Helen Larkin (talk) 15:21, 25 January 2017 (UTC)
Martha deMey Clow
Thank you for adding another review of Clow's Starbreed! I was curious how you managed to unearth it---I had a devil of a time locating reviews, and would like to improve my research skills in that arena. Thanks again, Stevenarntson (talk) 03:08, 28 December 2016 (UTC)
- I'm struggling to remember, to be honest. But if you 'google' "Martha deMey Clow" 1970 it come up on one of the first couple of pages of results. Sionk (talk) 19:31, 28 December 2016 (UTC)
- Thank you! I never did that precise search of using the title in quotes with the year of publication after. That's a good strategy I'll try in the future. Best, Stevenarntson (talk) 19:36, 28 December 2016 (UTC)
- When you use "quotes" Google searches for the exact phrase, which is essential really unless you want results including every Martha and Clow related subject. I just tried a few extra options (such as Starbreed, 1970 etc.) before finding the news article. Sionk (talk) 19:42, 28 December 2016 (UTC)
Gallura
If you check back through her contributions, she's been very open about her identity, though she goes by several variations on her name. See Jennifer Caron Hall. I forget exactly where and when she first started broadcasting it but I imagine it's somewhere in the deleted versions of her user and talk page. Deb (talk) 19:54, 4 January 2017 (UTC)
- I'd call it a bit gauche to 'out' someone without having the evidence. But then Gallura hasn't denied it. It would be a bit of astounding self-publicity to write that autobiography if the connection was correct. It has as much proof of notability (i.e. none) as many of their other articles. Sionk (talk) 20:01, 4 January 2017 (UTC)
- Yes, I'll look back and find where she said who she is. I know I didn't imagine it! :-) Deb (talk) 20:02, 4 January 2017 (UTC)
- BTW, she thinks that I'm you and that you're a girl! Deb (talk) 20:03, 4 January 2017 (UTC)

- @Deb: Looks like Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/IncidentArchive776#User:Gallura has Gallura openly claiming to be Jennifer Caron Hall (saying "I am also the actress who voiced Nicole Collard in Broken Sword II", while adding that name to the videogame article). --McGeddon (talk) 20:18, 4 January 2017 (UTC)

Robin Banerjee
Uncle Robin’s Museum
Hi Sionk,
Thanks for your edits to Robin Banerjee however, I have removed your contribution towards Uncle Robin’s Museum sub-section as the museum currently has a dedicated page on Wikipedia, although going through AfD discussion. I anticipate to include this section along with your The Telegraph reference in the Museum article to make it more substantial. However, if you feel this is not justified, please let me know.
Also I would appreciate your further comments regarding the proposed deletion of the Museum article to conclude the discussion as the recent editors claim it non-notable. Re: the name, the Museum is officially known as the Natural History Museum (please see site identification hoarding on the link provided)[1] and hence the page was moved to this new title. Chiara Passa page
hi, i am not sure if it is you who has put the message at the top of https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Chiara_Passa about not meeting the notability guideline for biographies, but over the last month the page has had more edits including secondary references & i am wondering whether it is ok to remove the maintenance notice? thanks. Frock (talk) 05:55, 30 January 2017 (UTC)
- The article was recreated only a few weeks after being deleted at the Articles for Deletion discussion. As such it could have been speedy deleted, but I thought I'd simply add the 'notability' template to allow you more time to improve it. The article hasn't really been improved much, though it has benefited from the El Pais blog and the Artshake article, which appear to have some independence and journalistic quality. If you are being emailed (as I was) by the subject, you really need to interrogate the sources/'further reading' a bit better (the further reading articles I found online were simply name-checks of Passa). However, because of the couple of reliable sources I won't add the 'notability' template back, if you removed it. Try not to make it a promotional PUFF article, or you may attract attention from other less-sympathetic editors. Sionk (talk) 13:49, 30 January 2017 (UTC)
- hi Sionk, thanks very much for your quick response. i have been emailing with chiara passa, & explained the need for secondary references to be independent authors rather than things she has written herself. i've removed the notability template & will heed the points that you've made. Frock (talk) 23:25, 30 January 2017 (UTC)
Helen Varley Jamieson page
hi sionk, i see that my work on chiara passa's page has drawn your attention to the page about me (https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Helen_Varley_Jamieson) ... this page was initially created by someone i don't know, who was a student at the time & did it as part of their coursework. since then they have presumably forgotten about the page, they certainly haven't updated it. i discovered it about a year after it had been published, & have from time to time corrected or updated things. it's kind of annoying when someone else makes a wikipedia page about you & then abandons it, as it puts you in the position of either having incorrect/out of date information there or having to update it yourself & risk what's happened now ... i will try to contact the original creator of the page & see if she will update it. actually it is not very well done because she copied stuff from my website which of course went quickly out of date. :( Frock (talk) 23:56, 30 January 2017 (UTC)

Hello Sink, I've made significant changes and improvements on the page https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Helen_Varley_Jamieson So, wondering if I can remove the adf you've put on it. Thanks in advance. Theartist 2013 (talk) 15:16, 23 March 2017 (UTC)
- I'm not sure I can see any signs of improvement. The article is still rather a bloated CV, with little evidence at all of any in-depth, reliable, independent news/book coverage about Jamieson. The length has grown, but not the quality. It suffers from many of the same problems (and format) as the Chiara Passa article, which was deleted from Wikipedia not long ago and is living on borrowed time. If you know of any in-depth news coverage about Jamieson, I suggest you incoporate it into the Helen Varley Jamieson article. Sionk (talk) 20:19, 29 March 2017 (UTC)
- Hello everybody, I added some more references with secondary sources on this article. Could you please check it now? Barborama (talk) 15:02, 1 April 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for having a look at the ratings of some of these. It's a long term project, but we're nearly done on Grade I and Grade II* buildings in Monmouth. Then, just need to cover all those churches in the wider county! I don't know how Peter does it. Thanks and regards. KJP1 (talk) 19:13, 1 April 2017 (UTC)
- Yes, it's a mammoth project and some of the buildings were on my radar during the Awaken the Dragon event last year. Looks like you're ably filling in some gaps. For the WikiProject Architecture they rate "interesting buildings" as mid importance and "Very important" buildings as high importance, so certainly anything above Grade II listed will be 'mid' importance if not more. You recently added the following articles to Category:Lists of people by city in Wales.
I think these should not be in this category because bishops are appointed to a diocese, and not to the cities that share the name of their diocese. Your thoughts? Verbcatcher (talk) 22:46, 16 April 2017 (UTC)
- The bishops are based at the Cathedral church in those cities, so the categorisation seemed to be valid. Sionk (talk) 23:47, 16 April 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for the interaction on that deletion discussion - it's the first one I've been really involved in. It's not the most clear process to be in, especially with the relisting, etc. I didn't mean to vote three times, as I'm sure the other guy didn't mean to vote twice. Interesting to see it happen: you seem more experienced on this - why did the discussion run so long? I read the process and I couldn't twig how long they're meant to run for. Da-rb (talk) 22:33, 25 April 2017 (UTC)
- Often if there is disagreement or a variety of views, the discussion gets re-listed to encourage participation from other people. Ah well, I see the article has been deleted on this occasion. But glad you found the process interesting. AfD's can get quite heated sometimes, luckily everyone was quite reasonable in this one. Sionk (talk) 18:46, 26 April 2017 (UTC)
Article about architect Sheila Prakash
Dear Sionk, I am hoping to have your guidance and assistance in cleaning up an article on a living person Sheila Sri Prakash. Would you please help weed out unreliable citations? I am not qualified to alter anything as I am not an architect but have read about her in the news. Thanks 42.111.207.66 (talk) 21:18, 6 June 2017 (UTC)
- Hi IP 42, I'm not sure the problem is unreliable citations, it is more that the reliable citations are used in the wrong way. For example it isn't a great idea to pack the lean introduction with citations - after all, the introduction is meant to be a summary of the main body of the article. Neither am I a fan at all of plucking words such as 'pioneer', 'social innovator', 'foremost award-winning architect' (etc.) from news articles - what we really need to know is what someone pioneered and what awards they won ...which should make their achievements self evident!
- I can turn a blind eye to the over-use of citations elsewhere. It is also acceptable to use WP:PRIMARY sources to verify basic uncontroversial facts. After all, Wikipedia is male dominated and generally biased against non-American/non-Western topics, so sometimes proof is needed beyond doubt to show something/someone has a strong claim to be in Wikipedia.
- I don't have a lot of spare time at the moment, but if you want advice on a specific thing, maybe raise it on the article's Talk page. Sionk (talk) 05:12, 7 June 2017 (UTC)
Montgomeryshire Architecture
Because nobody offered a reason not to use "Buildings and structures", and because that's clearly the naming convention, I've closed the "Montgomeryshire Architecture" CFD (Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2017 June 28) as "move to Category:Buildings and structures in Montgomeryshire". I've intentionally ignored the Powys-Montgomeryshire issue, since that's not so clear-cut, and I've started a new discussion specifically to address that issue. Please visit Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2017 July 17 (bottommost section) to offer your opinions. Nyttend (talk) 04:44, 17 July 2017 (UTC)
Would you have any objection to my adding a bridge infobox to the above? If you're not a fan, I'll leave it out but I think they can be quite useful for buildings and structures. KJP1 (talk) 10:28, 30 July 2017 (UTC)
- It's not a problem for me, though I expect at the moment the info box will be several times longer than the article itself :) Sionk (talk) 17:44, 30 July 2017 (UTC)
- Many thanks - I shall just have to flesh out the article a little! KJP1 (talk) 17:51, 30 July 2017 (UTC)

It looks like this page should be rolled back, the contributions to this page seemed to be from Sanjay Gupta himself and he sourced it from his own websites. The contributor was blocked indefinitely for that usage. Strongly do not feel user is of any notability.
What's not there on the page is that he's also a conman and has been arrested multiple times over for cheating innocent people by not paying money borrowed from people.

Hi. This month The Women in Red World Contest is being held to try to produce new articles for as many countries worldwide and occupations as possible. There is over £3000 in prizes to win, including Amazon vouchers and paid subscriptions. Wikimedia UK is putting up £250 specifically for editors who produce the most quality new women bios for British women, with special consideration given to missing notable biographies from the Oxford Dictionary of Biography and Welsh Dictionary of Biography. If you're not interested in prize money yourself but are willing to participate independently this is also fine, but please add any articles created to the bottom of the main contest page even if not competing. Your participation in the contest and contributing articles on British women from your area or wherever would we much appreciated. Thanks.

- Makes sense to me. I'd probably err towards a "Weak keep" if it went to AfD. Sionk (talk) 00:22, 14 November 2017 (UTC)
I am not going to get into an edit-war on this. It is very simple. It is a list. I am not disputing your comments that some of the entries may be notable. If so, they need their own article. That is where the references go. As it says in the edit notice, entries need their own articles. The list is for easy of navigation to the articles. So please remove the entries with no articles or I will do it. If you do not agree, please start a discussion at the article's Talk Page, or if you prefer, at AN. Entries with no articles will be removed. If you strongly believe some of these are notable, (I do not dispute that, as they may well be), then please write a properly sourced article. -- Alexf(talk) 00:49, 19 November 2017 (UTC)
- Well, it sounds like you are planning to have an edit war about this. I don't need a lecture either, thanks. The inclusion criteria of the list is that the entries need to be notable Irish artists. Someone has gone to the trouble of finding sources to prove that the redlinked artists meet Wikipedia's notability criteria. You are being pigheaded and unconstructive if you undo that hardwork. There are many notable people and subjects that do not yet have a Wikipedia article, the encyclopedia is work-in-progress. List of Irish artists isn't a list of redlink spam, which WP:WTAF warns against. If you are the person that has issues with this, you can of course write the articles. - A constructive alternative would be to transfer the redlinked articles and sources to the Talk page. Sionk (talk) 01:14, 19 November 2017 (UTC)
- I think your alternative is a good option. It keeps the references and information while holding to the "traditional" guideline of "only bluelinks". Primefac (talk) 01:18, 19 November 2017 (UTC) (talk page stalker)
ArbCom 2017 election voter message
Hello, Sionk. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2017 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 3 December 2017 (UTC)

I recently sent you an invitation to join NPP, but you also might be the right candidate for another related project, AfC, which is also extremely backlogged. |
