Happy 5th WikiBirthday! Dr. Blofeld White cat 10:53, 5 January 2010 (UTC)
I'm feeling all African at the moment. I'm eating a bag of extremely tasty Tanzanian cashew nuts my sister brought back and have been fleshing out the communes of Benin. See Za-Kpota, Zagnanado , Zogbodomey and Ouinhi. Funny but it was around this time last year I was working on Benin and made that agreement with Greta, images like in Cové. Shame we can't find images of the others... If I can gather enough info I will start Arrondissements of Benin. Dr. Blofeld White cat 14:40, 5 January 2010 (UTC)
Lifting weights eh? Just kidding. Well I'll start the main article later and try to find a list somewhere or start a list... Right now though I'll resume the expanding... Dr. Blofeld White cat 14:44, 5 January 2010 (UTC)
Ooh yes this makes it possible to list the arrondisements..Affirmative then. Dr. Blofeld White cat 14:51, 5 January 2010 (UTC)
Hehe. It might be a few days though as I really ought to expand the commune articles first.. Dr. Blofeld White cat 14:59, 5 January 2010 (UTC)
Phew its taking longer than I thought to even add the basic population data and reference let alone start to write them.... Dr. Blofeld White cat 19:23, 5 January 2010 (UTC)
No rush, I won't begin compiling the list for a few days anyway as I have to finish adding basic figures to the communesand then fleshing out as many as I can. Hopefully I can destub all of the communes, this will take days. Then I have to compile the arrond list and make templates ready for starting them... Talking of Africa, check out what I found here. Some free images of Africa by country... Dr. Blofeld White cat 20:37, 5 January 2010 (UTC)
Nah... I just want some images even if smaller of rural places in Africa. USAID as much as anybody have access to rural areas which we want to develop on here...Real world, real places that most of the world ignore... Dr. Blofeld White cat 20:58, 5 January 2010 (UTC)
I hope so.. Emailed.. Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:40, 5 January 2010 (UTC)
Happy WikiBirthday! Felicidades wonder wikipedista, eres un gran creador de articulos. Saludos Globalphilosophy (talk) 17:13, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
Check out File:Satellite image of snow-covered Great Britain on 7 January 2010.jpg. Dr. Blofeld White cat 15:56, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
I found this. Should make compiling the lists easy. Just click on a department and it should list them all. with population too!. Dr. Blofeld White cat 18:51, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
You can do that! I'll prepare the list of arrondissements at User:Dr. Blofeld/Launch Pad 2. I'll need to create templates later too... Dr. Blofeld White cat 18:58, 8 January 2010 (UTC) The list is pretty boring to draw up, I'll draw it up over the next week or so. Once the list and templates are drawn up starting them will be the easy part.. Dr. Blofeld White cat 19:41, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
Right. What I'll do then is start the list in the mainscape now and gradually work on it in chunks, a department at a time. It is easier then to copy and make templates like Template:Alibori Department. Look OK? Dr. Blofeld White cat 20:00, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
Just browsing Halka and it rang a bell... Expanded .... Oh actual;ly I did the expansion... Well it's a good thing anyway!! Dr. Blofeld White cat 20:33, 12 January 2010 (UTC)
Awesome. I see we now have a Ukrainian translation for google and it seems to be rather good. I think I'll have a fish around on Ukrainian wiki see what they have. I'll resume with those Benin arrondisements tomorrow.. Dr. Blofeld White cat 20:51, 12 January 2010 (UTC)
Lets try Theatres in Kiev..
How scary.... . Dr. Blofeld White cat 20:53, 12 January 2010 (UTC)
Interesting, although I don't think I'll have any trouble finding missing articles!! Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:10, 12 January 2010 (UTC)
I've found a lis tof Uzbekistani deputies at http://www.parliament.gov.uz/ru/structure/deputy/search1.php?id=%D0%90. The names just need trnaslating using google translate. Interested? Dr. Blofeld White cat 14:55, 14 January 2010 (UTC)
Mmm, I tried starting a list but I have unconvinced the names are in the right order... Dr. Blofeld White cat 15:57, 14 January 2010 (UTC)
My email isn't working at the moment, it comes up with a spam filter whenever I try to respond..., hope your computer gets better though. Dr. Blofeld White cat 10:31, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
Sad though isn't it about the earthquake. Also sad is how most people ignore countries like Haiti in RL and wikipedia and then when suddenly something like that happens we end up getting floods of new articles on notable buildings/people which we should have had long ago but it took either their demise or destruction to be recognised on here. Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:08, 20 January 2010 (UTC) Yey, thats FA number 3 for Millenium Park. Jay Pritzker Pavilion! I only made some copyedits though and suggestions which were accepted... Dr. Blofeld White cat 15:36, 26 January 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. Did you see Wikipedia:Four-million pool? Any guess from you? Dr. Blofeld White cat 16:12, 26 January 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for adding that commune template, can you add it to e.g Marmelade Arrondissement too (without adding commune cats o course). Whenever you are free though!! Dr. Blofeld White cat 16:27, 26 January 2010 (UTC) Expanded a little. I'll add infoboxes to your stubs and try to expand a few... Dr. Blofeld White cat 16:42, 26 January 2010 (UTC) Wow for a busy man you sure started a few! Almost went under my radar! Dr. Blofeld White cat 17:00, 26 January 2010 (UTC) Best thing is to create Template:Resorts of Suriname and connect them together. I'll make it shortly... Dr. Blofeld White cat 17:29, 26 January 2010 (UTC) I've done Suriname already and added the cat!! I'll added infoboxes and expand gradually though as I want to get back onto Benin. I'm currently making Template:Municipalities of the Dominican Republic too. You could add that one though! Dr. Blofeld White cat 18:45, 26 January 2010 (UTC)
Yeah it looks as though there are a handful missing. Most red linked though are municipal districts, the next level adminstration (which will not be linked in the main municpalities template).I noticed somebody created province templates for those already but have not linked them. So for MDs it would be best to develop the indivudal provinces templates and add the sub municipalities to those. There are too many to fit in the one template. There is no urgency to start the remaining MDs, just the municipalities for now I think... It will take a fair bit of work to adapt all of the provincial templates to include the MDs so working on the main municipalities will be OK for now. Dr. Blofeld White cat 19:02, 26 January 2010 (UTC)
Dominican template is made and ready for adding to the municipality articles only. Next will be Template:Cantons of Ecuador but enough for now, I'll make that later tomorrow.. Dr. Blofeld White cat 20:13, 26 January 2010 (UTC) Oh OK if you want to make it for me that would be great, it wasn't a hint!! I'll format the provinces in the left column ready for you then. Yes I'd go standard with .. Canton. If you do find time tonight to start any can you add an infobox first time when starting to save time later! Dr. Blofeld White cat 20:25, 26 January 2010 (UTC) Darn, like DOminican Rep. there are too many province to have in columns max is 20. It will have to be formatted like the Dominican template then. Grrr. Dr. Blofeld White cat 20:27, 26 January 2010 (UTC) OK, also the DOminican Republic template needs tacking onto the foot of the municipality articles using AWB... Dr. Blofeld White cat 14:50, 27 January 2010 (UTC) Thanks! I won't be very active today, its one of my "music" days when I'm more on Youtube.. But I'll try to get those infoboxes added to those Suriname resorts shortly and resume with those Benin articles later.. oh and finish off making that Cantons of Ecuador template for you!! Dr. Blofeld White cat 15:01, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

W. John Kenney
[edit]You think that Category:United States Navy personnel is appropriate for W. John Kenney? I assumed that "personnel" would refer mainly to enlisted men and officers, whereas Kenney was never actually a member of the Navy, though, as a civilian, he was Assistant Secretary of the Navy and Under Secretary of the Navy. Maybe it would just be best if someone created Categories for "Assistant Secretary of the Navy" and "Under Secretary of the Navy" and then listed those categories under Category:United States Navy - your thoughts? Unreferenced BLPs
[edit]Hello Ser Amantio di Nicolao! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 48 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 317 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

Tortricidae
[edit]Thanks for creating the Tortricidae genera. I was wondering, would you be willing to also add the species to these articles? These are all on the site you use as a reference. We still have tons of genera articles on nearly all moth families without species. For the articles to be usefull, they should at least have the species listed. If you want to help out, that would be great.. I am working on creating moth species pages all the time, so I would be willing to switch my attention to the Tortricidae and try to fill in a lot of the red links.. Cheers! Ruigeroeland (talk) 09:28, 21 January 2010 (UTC)
- Great! Would you mind adding the species and genus authorities as well? That would be of great help.. And watch out on that site: synonyms are also listed as species at the bottom of each species list on the genus page, so these are not valid species anymore.. I made a bunch of Tortrix genera pages last week, maybe it might be helpfull to have a look at one? See: http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Isotenes. Cheers and thanks! Ruigeroeland (talk) 14:40, 21 January 2010 (UTC)
- Sure, sounds like a great plan. I'll see if I can help out. Just to warm you, this is a massive load of work, but would be great if we would have all this info on wikipedia. We have a lot of species pages "floating" around, which are hard to find because the genera pages are missing. If all genera are up, I will try and find someone to have a look at the higher taxonomy too, because a lot of genera are currently listed under the wrong subfamilies and tribes. Ruigeroeland (talk) 14:56, 21 January 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah, I know it's fast, but I tend to add species to the genera if I can. Furthermore, you would need a reliable list. Taxonomy is especially tricky, because genera and species tend to be placed in synonymity from time to time. If you want to do it correctly, you would have to google for additional info to be sure the genus still exists. Because of AWB we have tons of genera pages (for especially the Noctuidae family) that are not valid anymore. I have cleaning up somewhat from time to time, but there is still a lot that need to be looked at. Anyway.. there is no real worry about that for the Torticidae genera, because http://www.tortricidae.com/ seems to be a great source. I think they have listed each and every genus and species in this family. Making it really easy for us to rip their info.. :) Only problem with that site is their shitty navigation though.. Ruigeroeland (talk) 15:43, 21 January 2010 (UTC)
- Ah, no worries about the Noctuidae, a lot have been sorted out allready..! Ruigeroeland (talk) 09:02, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
- Maybe you can start with the genera which are also listed here: http://www.funet.fi/pub/sci/bio/life/insecta/lepidoptera/ditrysia/pyraloidea/pyralidae/index.html. This site isn't completely up-to-date and complete, but I think it is good enough for this task. I you want, I will check all the genera that are still red after that. Cheers Ruigeroeland (talk) 11:59, 23 January 2010 (UTC)
- Oh, and just to warn you: Encyclopedia of Life is not a good source (at least: for butterflies and moths, I dont know about other animals)! It lists synonyms and subspecies as valid species. If you use it, you need to check it in another source too! Ruigeroeland (talk) 12:04, 23 January 2010 (UTC)
- There are no sources listing all species regretably. There are some good sources certain families or subfamilies though. The tortricidae is one of those sources listing each and every species and genus in the family, making it great. For other families it's best to just research the species one by one to see if they are still valid. A LOT of work, but if you're interested in helping out with that later on, that would be great. I'm currently the only one making species articles on a regular basis and could use all the help I can get..! Good luck with the chorus! I got mine done allready.. :) Ruigeroeland (talk) 19:55, 23 January 2010 (UTC)
- I did all of the ones that were picked up by the new article bot (see: http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User:AlexNewArtBot/LepidopteraSearchResult) allready. Ruigeroeland (talk) 20:11, 23 January 2010 (UTC)
- Just to let you know, I systematically worked through the letter "A" on the site. Easiest probably is changing the last number in the hyperlink in the tortricidae site, see: http://www.tortricidae.com/catalogueGenusList.asp?gcode=138. If you want, you could begin at the end and we could meet in the middle? I think the last page is http://www.tortricidae.com/catalogueGenusList.asp?gcode=1047. Cheers Ruigeroeland (talk) 14:22, 26 January 2010 (UTC)
- That would be great! But I just wanted to let you know about the progress, so just chip in when you can and feel like it. Cheers! Ruigeroeland (talk) 16:15, 26 January 2010 (UTC)

Here's Aevilness for you. Have a read about the Ostrich Inn. An Aevil landlord is said to have murdered over 60 people. As they slept he had a trapdoor and the bed would tilt up at an angle, the sleeping beauty would be emptied through the trapdoor during the night and then burned alive in a room swimming in boiling hot oil. Lovely. The Ostrich Inn is reportedly haunted to this day with angry souls.... Dr. Blofeld White cat 18:11, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
Pretty gruesome stuff eh? Urrrggh this deleltionism is everywhere at the moment. Everyday I log in and there are unwarranted deletion proposals thrown everywhere! Dr. Blofeld White cat 11:32, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
Some of the current deletions though are valid ones.. The thing is I am on the fence with certain biographies we have on here and support the deletion of some of them, especially on subjects which have no coverage in reliable publications. I mean I support keeping even the most basic of stubs like Erica Lindsay and Joseph-François Kremer as sources indicate they are notable. But I see little notability in biographies like Danielle Delaunay. As for google being a judge for notability, I would say for American/western people there should be enough info online to support it but I am well aware that, especially for certain people and places in the developing world it is definately not a good judge of notability. For instance one of those Gabonese politicians. We both know they are undoubtedly notable but the sources are lacking... So while I am in general an inclusionist based on reliable publications and on traditional encyclopedic subjects I'd quite happily delete many of our unverifiable or poorly backed articles on marginally significant CEOs/pop stars/reality stars etc... Dr. Blofeld White cat 16:08, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
Yeah the thing is I am too in regards to traditional encyclopedic subjects. But above anything else I expect solid reliable publications to exist for articles. While I know this as yet is often an impossibility for much of the developing world I think this is where the best encyclopedic material is derived from. Admittedly I am very biased towards traditional encyclopedia type articles on here which is probably why I have a hard time accepting biographies about small scale CEOs and minor reality contestants. I'll accept Tawny Little based on her television career and wining Miss America with sources such as People magazine but a lot of similar biogaphies in my view I don't think are essential. My ideal is to create an encyclopedia (rather than a vacuum cleaner absorbing any old dust and dubious particles) of the greatest depth but also for each article to use solid sources as a traditional encyclopedia would and maintain a good quality, even if we have small stubs. In doing so I am happy to filter out articles on lesser encyclopedic subjects where little coverage in solid sources exists but I agree we need to exercise caution over certain topics as offline info in books or documents may exist beyond our knowledge. But I think, especially for American biographies like comic book artists, bloggers and small CEOs it is a lot more judgeable than say a Colombian rural activist group or something which may have a lot of coverage in Colombian magazines and papers but have little online... Its finding a balance I think but I think the low key western biographies are usually a lot easier to root out and assess. But the strength of a good encyclopedia in my book is solid reliable publications solidly supporting each and everyone of our articles and evidence of research and haard work into books and papers. Like the Ming dynasty article. Personally I prefer book sources to web based material anyway but I think it is professional sources in abundance supporting a decently written well balanced article which is the way to go rather than certain articles on American bloggers for instance which only have their online blog to support the article if you see what I mean. This is why I get excited when reliable government sources become available for developing world places as it means even if the article is a small stub a credible source and basic data exists to make it a worthwhile addition. Dr. Blofeld White cat 16:43, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
About Ecuador. I'll finish making that template shortly but if you do start the articles can you please add an infobox so the map/more data can be added later? Dr. Blofeld White cat 17:05, 28 January 2010 (UTC) I'll add infoboxes to the ones you started yesterday. When you start more it shouldn't require any further effort, just a subst:PAGENAME in the name and change the department name after finishing a set that's all... Right, I'll have that template sorted shortly... Dr. Blofeld White cat 17:10, 28 January 2010 (UTC) Some small things. Can you add Template:Municipalities of the Dominican Republic to the foot of all the municipality articles. Once I make the Cantons of Ecuador template can you add it to the bottom of all the cantons you've started so far. Also when you reach a province which has say one or two covered but no data can you quickly add a ref and figure so they all end up consistent. ALso the links in all the province articles need changing from (canton) to Canton as they are currently red linked and of course we want to generate traffic to them to get them expanded! Perhaps that can be done using AWB I have no idea but it still needs to be done... Dr. Blofeld White cat 17:41, 28 January 2010 (UTC) Oh I agree, but I'd include categorize your lighthouse figures as traditional encyclopedic subjects. I know they wouldn't included in tradiaiotnal encyclopedias as such unless regional but my point is is that they resemble tradiational encyclopedia articles. And I would say they were very notable for what they did. Where I draw the line is those biographies which contains nothing but so and so came 17th in the Philippines Aug Mgantam Ngao TV series and likes horseriding and monkey wrestling in her own time and contains no decent web sources, only fan blogs.
Thats basically what I mean. I mean I doubt you'd get Yak racing in a book encyclopedia but solid sources exist which indicate cultural notability and it can be written in a traditional encyclopedic way. Basically I abhor most content which either looks like it has been started and written by some kiddie fan or teenager and uses kiddie sources or those articles which looks like they've been self made by some arrogant self-interested CEO or internet personality desperate for fame and lack the sources to make it adequate. A lot of these BLPs look like they have been started by teenage fans or businessmen desperate for google hits to be honest and while kids are capable of creating good content I think some such articles do nothing to improve the encyclopedia and only reinforce what many believe to be a site run by kids anyway.. Personally I think very few Youtube celebrities, bloggers or pop idol losers, low level executives in manga companies, web comics etc cut the mustard in an encyclopedic sense. However, you could probably write a decent encyclopedia article about a panda in a zoo or killer whale or something if adequate sources exist but to me many of these articles about say Youtube celebrities are based on nothing really encyclopedia and I regard them as trash articles. Perfect example. Trae Lindley. Evidently started by a fan of Paris Hilton because he appeared in the Simple Life. Probably some fan who had the hots for him or somebody related itself. As an encyclopedia it seems ludricous we have such articles when that is what the notability is based on and this is the intergirty and purpose of the author. That's what I mean!! Dr. Blofeld White cat 17:58, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
Phew, that was hard going. I've made Template:Cantons of Ecuador. The links should be right but many redirect into the (canton) articles and will need moving back, might need an admin to do that. If you add the template to the foot of all existing articles first before continuing this should be OK! DId you miss Camilo Ponce Enríquez Canton out because of lack of data? Of couse then there is the Parishes of Ecuador. Not sure if data exists on that!! Apparently there are over 1500 of them!! Dr. Blofeld White cat 20:21, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
Exactly. Phew I'm taking a break now... No BLPing for me tomorrow. Full steam ahead with Benin. Dr. Blofeld White cat 20:36, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, in a utopian world, ultimately I would like to see wikipedia have 10 million articles all in the quality of Ming Dynasty. Now that would be impressive!! I think it is by no coincidence that many of our best articles are written mainly from book sources and have been widely and properly researched... Dr. Blofeld White cat 20:43, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

[edit]I've just found a goldmine of information for every parish (parroquia) in Azuay Province.[1] Demographics, geography, education, culture, economy, history, tourist attractions, etc. Do you speak Spanish? This could be a great project. Calliopejen1 (talk) 19:27, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
- Too bad.... Anyways at least the parish site will be useful in my expansion of Girón, Azuay. My goal is to get that all set up before I do a DYK for a festival I went to in Girón where there is a running of the bulls (well, I guess several, one each weekend over six weekends) and then afterward they slaughter one bull really gruesomely so it bleeds a lot and everyone can drink the blood. That was quite an experience! BTW the link you posted on my page wouldn't be that helpful. It's from the ministry of agriculture and looks to be mostly news items. In any event, I'm always impressed when what I would call "second world" countries (evidently my usage doesn't agree with Second World, but hopefully you get what I mean) get lots of information up online. It's very cool. Calliopejen1 (talk) 20:32, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
- Oops, you and blofeld replied at the same time and I got confused. I put my response to you here accidentally. Calliopejen1 (talk) 21:00, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
I speak Spanish. Check out this!!. Perhaps I'll demonstrate something later and expand Camilo Ponce Enríquez (municipality). Wow, someday maybe we'll have 1500 full articles on all parishes too!! It is just this province available? Dr. Blofeld White cat 20:35, 29 January 2010 (UTC) Can you find me that Benin village link I posted to you via email I can't find it!! Just give me the Bnein website url not the whole email message!! Yeah that's the one. That's a huge list! Just imagine what say one for DR Congo would look like... Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:15, 29 January 2010 (UTC) Just spotted missing Saudi Arabian cities. Interested? Mm, looks like we have a lot of them already.... I am sure there are some missing though... Unreferenced transwikied articles, please....
[edit]Hello, there. Per my request to you in August [2], Wikipedia cannot be used as a reference. If you are translating an article from another Wikipedia as you recently did at Gaetano Monti (composer) and it has no references there, please tag the article {{unreferenced}}, so at least the relevant projects know about it and can deal with it (if you're not willing to do so yourself, which would be immensely preferable). I have now added a reference to it, but I notice you also have a mountain of unreferenced BLPs above,[3], again mostly translations from other Wikipedias. I hope you intend to fix them soon. If the foreign Wikipedia has reliable sources, you must re-list them in the English Wikipedia. If they are completely unsourced in the original, and especially biographies, you shouldn't be tranwiki-ing them at all. Thanks in advance for your understanding. Voceditenore (talk) 10:48, 31 January 2010 (UTC)
- I'm working on it - believe me. I just want to see how the argument plays out before I do - how many sources are going to be considered enough. As for Monti, I did it rather quickly - I wrote Gaetano Monti a few months ago and wanted to do something quick just to keep people from linking it:Gaetano Monti to it (I already removed a link to the latter). I didn't intend even to flesh it out, but I got carried away.
- Incidentally, I don't find anything on Monti in a Google search beyond his dates. And I don't have access to New Grove, I'm afraid. But that's the problem I'm starting to find with a lot of pre-twentieth-century musical figures (see Gaetano Fraschini, for instance - the first Riccardo in Ballo, and all I found online was the one workable biography and a handful of role listings on the first page of a Google search.) --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 15:42, 31 January 2010 (UTC)
- I've now referenced Simone Alaimo, but frankly, waiting to see "how the argument plays out" before you fix any more of your unreferenced BLP's, is very odd. There should be no unreferenced biographies on Wikipedia, even under the current standards [4]. The main thing is... if you have no intention to stop creating unreferenced articles, at least tag them as such, and if they are opera-related, add {{Opera}} to the talk page so they don't fall under the radar of editors who can fix them. I don't think that's too much to ask. Voceditenore (talk) 10:41, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
- I don't make it a habit, believe me - if you look at most of my recent BLPs I make sure to include at least one source. Things like Simone Alaimo are older. Yes, one is going to slip through, occasionally - I mean to come back and do something to it but then I forget. But I am trying to get better about it. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 14:39, 1 February 2010 (UTC)

Bridges and dams
[edit]Pathetic. I just found out there are like 250 odd bridges and 200 odd dams in Burma we don't have!! Now if I can find the names of them and some info... ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 15:23, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
Actually like with other places, much more info is available about developments in Burma since I last looked. It might be possible to find a few by doing a google search. White cat is still on my lap but I'm looking out of the window at a scenic Himalayan valley once again... I got stale as Blofeld, so I decided to go back to Himalayan and start producing some things again! ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 15:33, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
Actually I was about to finish off the Ecuadorian cantons now. I won't if you want to do them. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 16:05, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
OK I'll do the rest now. I might go back and add the area figures to them and and standardise the others when I have time but I'll get them finished for now. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 16:09, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
Can you do me a favor and empty Category:Morona-Santiago Province, Ecuador and move it to simply Category:Morona-Santiago Province? ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 17:04, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
Cheers. I'll continue in about 15 minutes I'm about to have dinner now... ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 17:08, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
Can you do the same cat shifting with Orellana Province, Ecuador? ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 18:00, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
I just noticed the rest of the remaining sub cats see Category:Provinces of Ecuador all have the unnecessary , Ecuador on the end. If you can relocate them, perhaps Jen can dleete the empty cats later.. As for as I can see most of them are invalid and unnecessary, I think only a few like Bolivar Province which , Ecuador is neccessary... Once I've finished starting the cantons I'll give you a hand... ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 18:06, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
No, I mean the sub categories of Category:Provinces of Ecuador mostly all have the , Ecuador naming in them. Given that most of them are not province names in other countries the ,Ecuador ending on them all is redundant. I mean moving the category contents like we did with Morona-Santiago above. E.g Category:Azuay Province, Ecuador should become simply Category:Azuay Province. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 18:17, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
Oh cool, I thought you said something like "Done". I thought, what already? LOL. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 18:19, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
No worries, I think its something Rich can hopefully finish off and also corretc the existing links in the province articles. Admittedly I prefer the (canton) naming convention than the capitalized one. I dunno, there's something about Canton with a capital that doesn't look right. And they are not known as ... Canton in spanish anyway... Hopefully that can be sorted. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 19:16, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
Mmm I dunno. It seems normal to have something say .... District or ... Province but ... Canton or .... Municipality seems not right to me anyway... The current naming for Venzuelan municpalities is .... Municipality too. I think the naming would be better (municipality) like the Mexican ones... ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 19:44, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
Next task This. I'll create Districts of Georgia shortly. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 21:33, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
Turns out they already exist. Just need a template/infobox job now...
An AWB request. Can you add Template:Districts of Georgia to the foot of the district articles? ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 22:20, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
Cool. Very promising looking in articles like Fioletovo and Alaverdi that decent info and images are becoming available. That Fioletovo image was uploaded only two weeks ago. Georgia is a spectacularly beautiful country (although Armenia is too as shown in those pics). And they produce people who look like Katie Melua too! Gradually we are recruiting editors like this guy to developing such countries. Very pleasing to see. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 22:28, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
And part Lithuanian? DIdn't you say your mother spoke Russian? Is your mother Russian then or is it your grandmother who is and your mother born in America? Check out Template:Contemporary Armenian Churches. I've given Kevork a barnstar and pat on the back. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 22:59, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
I have another AWB request. Can you add the relative cities, towns and village categories to the articles in Category:Local Government Areas of Nigeria. So for instance Bodinga you would add Category:Cities, towns and villages in Sokoto State working through each of the categories. Do you follow? Its just we have hundreds of towns not categorized like so. Ideally we'd like seperate articles on the towns than the LGAs eventually but given the lack of info right now its best to have them in the same article until it develops... ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 14:25, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
Oh yeah, stub sorting I forgot about that. I can create the templates, probably best you apply them using AWB though. I'll finish adding infoboxes and coordinates to Sokoto State and then make a start on creating those templates. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 14:48, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
Seems Waacstaats has already made the templates and done some sorting. There are still 900 odd stubs left in the main cat though... ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 14:58, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
He might have done the sorting already but because so few were viable there's still 900 left. If so, then a stub creating session by each state would be neccessary to reach 60 place articles.. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 15:18, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
I've done Abia State (adding City categories) so when you come to AWB later just leave the first category for Abia from Category:Local Government Areas of Nigeria. I'll see if Waacs can draw up a list of the current number of stubs for each state, give us something to target. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 17:33, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
Sheesh it looks as if those cantons can be expanded. See this. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 18:16, 3 February 2010 (UTC) Excellent, thanks for doing those. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 10:46, 4 February 2010 (UTC) Yes thanks, if you could sort those stray one tagged with Nigeria-stub Waacs can do a stub count later. P.S I found what was giving my those severe headaches the last few days, mint imperials! I haven't touched one all day so far and the headache I've had for three days has worn off! ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 15:25, 4 February 2010 (UTC) Wow that's some seriously thick snow! ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 20:15, 7 February 2010 (UTC)

[edit]thanks for the heads-up and barnstar. i did a redirect rather than merge. (one of the problems of filling red links is finding the alternate namings) hope you don't mind all the corrections of my typos Pohick2 (talk) 17:44, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
- yes the naming is a problem, the Americans mangle the French by refereing to people by their title rather than family name (i.e. Gilbert du Motier, marquis de Lafayette), it seems to be who gets there first. for this example, happily family name got there. this could be a project to standardize the names. Brazilian municipalities
[edit]Are you certain they are of "low importance"? ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 00:02, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, villages maybe. I dunno. I'd probably class them as marginal mid importance as they constitute official government areas of the actual country. But they are localized so are not exactly of high importance. I'd leave them unassessed, but I doubt classifying them as either low or mid importance is going to make a blind bit of difference to anybody expanding them. That's why I usually ignore the importance side of it as it is often difficult to really assess unless it is an obvious core topic or something. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 00:09, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
Why aren't you out building snow men? You could build yourself an igloo with all that snow! ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 00:10, 9 February 2010 (UTC)

30 Nigerian states down, 7 to go with the infoboxes.... but then I have to make them all like Sokoto State with the coordinates/maps in the belief that someday we'll get that gid damn svg which seems to not want to be conceived by its mummy and daddy... Enjoy that fire, it sounds very cosy! ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 02:17, 9 February 2010 (UTC)

Can I interest you with working on Template:Mountains of Liguria with me? ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 20:53, 9 February 2010 (UTC) Oh well done! I've just strayed in Monaco.... ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 02:15, 10 February 2010 (UTC)
Only briefly when I did a cruise around the med. I couldn't believe how many silver haired/bald old Italian men I saw with ridiculous young "girlfriends". High class hookers or escorts I think.... Very swanky place, playboy's playground really. Ridiculously wealthy. Very attractive though, the harbours especially. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 02:23, 10 February 2010 (UTC)
The whole French/Italian riviera is stunnning. Lake Como and Garda are supposed to be too, my parents have been several times and love it. I can see why the rich and famous are lured there. Who wouldn't want a beautiful white villa in northern Italy eh? Love Italy. The people are so romantic and passionate. And the pizza cooked in the old brick ovens and pasta. Yum yum. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 02:30, 10 February 2010 (UTC)
Oh I loved the Amalfi coast, more than practically anywhere I've been actually. Hearing the church bell of the duomo while lying in bed in an old villa hotel with the scent of flowers and lemons growing! Eyeing up beautiful, dark long haired girls on the bus travelling from comune to comune. Shopping in Sorrento and eating in an old Pizzeria with oak wood tables and a brick oven. Visiting the stunning Ravello monastery and the soft carress of the wind gently blowing in your face. LOL I'm getting all poetic now on purpose but it was such a wonderful place.
I tell you what. There is something very special about Amalfi Duomo. I don't know what it is but being around the church and hearing the bell it is an incredible place to be. That square and that duomo are special, I'm telling you! ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 02:47, 10 February 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, the interior to that church looks amazing. But you have to experience it first hand to know what its like. I don't know, but hearing the duomo bells and the old furnishings of buildings around the town it kind of took me back in history. It is even quite spooky in the middle of the night when the bell rings on the hour, it almost felt like it was 1360 or something and the Pope was about to visit.. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 12:20, 10 February 2010 (UTC) Sounds great doesn't it. You surprise me actually how much you've travelled in Europe. I've barely visited Central Europe. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 16:26, 10 February 2010 (UTC) What we want now is several thousand articles on Nigerian and other African cities like Kano. It makes a huge deifference with pictures and some decent info. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 20:29, 10 February 2010 (UTC)
Most excellent. We could certainly do with beefing up any of the Caribbean biographies, or any topic for that matter! ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 20:42, 10 February 2010 (UTC) Like Frank Moya Pons.... How about a Barbadian ornithologist? Jamaican philosopher? ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 20:56, 10 February 2010 (UTC) Roy Reid coming next. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 21:02, 10 February 2010 (UTC) Good to see you know where you're going. Next I'll create the Pegasus Hotel and then maybe another Carib bio and then return to those Monaco hotels.. If I'm lucky I might get those infoboxes done for Nigeria later too, the mountains of Italy can wait for now. I'll resume with Benin tomorrow maybe... ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 21:29, 10 February 2010 (UTC) Hotel and Hospital started, nice work on Huie, I thought Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts would be a useful addition and I managed to squeeze him in mentioning... ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 22:42, 10 February 2010 (UTC) Cool. Check out File:Outline Map of Buryatia (with position on the map of Russia).svg which I specifically requested earlier. See Ulan-Ude I think it works. Now if we can get one for every federal subject of Russia within a few months and can gradually whittle it down to suing only one map in the infoboxes this would be great. Russian maps have been awful on here since the wiki began. Glad to see this Russian editor at work. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 23:37, 10 February 2010 (UTC) well we have one decent map, well two including the one map Nordnord made for displaying towns in Russia. But it may take a long time to make maps for all the federal subjects. But if he can do it consistently and they actually work it is worth the wait! He has already made vast improvements to the federal ubjects and raion maps for some oblasts. The boy is doing good and it is good to see that other people aside from Nord and co are bothering to make maps. Now if only an Indian computer genius would do the same with India! I admittedly hate the Indian maps and infoboxes. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 23:55, 10 February 2010 (UTC) Exactly, horrid things. I find the pastel shades for each district really ugly and unprofessional looking. Luckily I managed to get the infobox to conform to pretty much standard, so it looks OK especially if you know what it used to look like before I got my mits on it but I would rather use a standard infobox settlement anyway. I guess if we had decent svgs they wouldn't look so bad. Right a hot drink for me, a I'll get those remaining Nigerian infoboxes added. They can be kitted out with the nice new map in coming weeks. I know I am obsessed with having quality svgs but they really do make the articles look so much better and cleaner! ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 00:16, 11 February 2010 (UTC)
Actually I think I can manage the lot I'm going through them anyway sorting maps, shouldn't take more than a few seconds longer. Like Template:Borno State, quite an improvement I think.. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 02:48, 11 February 2010 (UTC)
Phew I've now made all of the new state locator maps for Nigeria. Now to upload the remainder to the commons and sort those templates before I doze off... I'll be taking it easy tomorrow but I wanted to get this done now... ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 03:39, 11 February 2010 (UTC) What do you think of John Mayer? I'm a big guitar fan but I find him an arrogant jerk. He's a pretty good blues rock guitarist but as a person and the way he treats woman I can't stand him. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 17:15, 11 February 2010 (UTC)
Certainly leaves that impression doesn't he. Have a look at Template:Districts of Zambia. I'm creating maps for all of the districts at the moment. Once I've created them they can all be started with the maps first time. Statoids has some data on them all. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 17:34, 11 February 2010 (UTC) I was going to do them province by province and upload the maps before I start each one but I can't be bothered to make any more maps today. I'll probably get them start later and then add the maps in a day or two. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 19:28, 11 February 2010 (UTC) You are bald guy? ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 23:10, 11 February 2010 (UTC)
Not a baldy then. I thought so, Bald people are far to Aevil. Do you look like Charles Laughton? That's quite an unusual one, going back in time a bit. DId you spot that one or did somebody say that to you? I don't think I really look like anybody "famous" although my sister insists I look like this guy. Similar , but he's got a gingery tint to him, I don't!! Personally I'd rather have dark hair and darker skin, but you always want what you can't have!! Theres no escaping the Scots/Nordic ancestry! ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 00:59, 12 February 2010 (UTC) I found this site. Looks as if it has a number of notable museums that could be started. I may feel like doing something tomorrow... ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 01:14, 12 February 2010 (UTC) Snow cleared yet? I'm rather jealous actually! Yey the Winter Olympics starts today!! ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 08:52, 12 February 2010 (UTC) Not what you could call a 40 hour working week then.... Zambian districts are done, I'll have to make the maps though when I can be bothered!! ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 15:30, 12 February 2010 (UTC) WHats with the Oprah Winfrey article? 3/4 of the article is over indulgence in gushing comments about her and remphasis after remphasis on how rich. popular and pwoerful she is. Is is really necessary to keep repeating it? And how on earth does she make $250 million a year? I am wondering, why she is so powerful and overpaid? ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 23:42, 12 February 2010 (UTC) Clever woman and a big success, but I can't help thinking she is a tad overrated (and overpaid)....If she has the power to sway politics too that's scary. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 11:53, 13 February 2010 (UTC) Mmm it looks like somebody from Bon Jovi has discovered wikipedia.. Cecil Kimber
[edit]Re this edit - I was holding off doing that until I'd got the accident article at least as comprehensive as the paragraph in Kimber's article. I was then going to wikilink from Kimber, and reduce the paragraph at the same time. I didn't want to simply transfer the paragraph, because although most of it is true, it is entirely unrefd, and not well written either. For instance, the phrase "forcing the driver to pull to a stop" is not supported by the official accident report which on p. 6 states "he was, however, under the impression that he was moving forward all the time". So, I decided to rewrite and at the same time make a separate article. --Redrose64 (talk) 19:47, 9 February 2010 (UTC)

Thank you very much for your prompt response. Please take your time.Pharaoh of the Wizards (talk) 22:18, 12 February 2010 (UTC)
Can you AWB add this template to the foot of pages. Then the missing articles can be started.. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 21:03, 14 February 2010 (UTC)
Does this template still work on your computer? FOr some reason it was fine one minute and now is spewed all outside the box. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 22:10, 14 February 2010 (UTC)
Mmm, OK then I'll copy it into a workspace list, the template would probably cause fuss anyway. But for articles about mountains etc I think it is appropriate. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 22:19, 14 February 2010 (UTC)
Oops. wow you've done it already! OK then I'll try to fix the darn thing. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 22:20, 14 February 2010 (UTC)
Seems OK now, thanks for adding it so quickly. Yes, there are definately more Surinam topics than meets the eye. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 22:24, 14 February 2010 (UTC)
- I have strong objections to Template:Italian tenors, which no one discussed or even mentioned to WikiProject Opera who look after these articles before mass-adding it. See Template talk:Italian tenors for why. Will you kindly stop adding it until this has been discussed here. Also if you are intending to start articles for the red links via translations from Italian Wikipedia, be aware that you MUST reference each of them. If they are referenced in original article, add those references. If they are unreferenced in the original article, do not add it to English Wikipediia unless you provide at least one reliable source. If you can't, and the article is about a living person, it will be proposed for deletion. Voceditenore (talk) 23:05, 14 February 2010 (UTC)
Or, you could kindly ask the creator to db-author it which he did... Don't patronise me over referencing either as if I didn't know... I started an entire wiki project dedicated to attempting to transwiki articles and find reliable sources to support in doing so. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 16:56, 15 February 2010 (UTC)
Forget trigger happy admins or wiki bullies/old farts, more stressful is visiting other language wikipedias and browsing through the categories. Mostly missing from here and even those article we do have they are mostly stubs or not beyond start class.... ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 23:08, 15 February 2010 (UTC)
Also. Look what I found. A directory of state assembly members for Rajasthan. No doubt there are several hundred representing each state of India. Most it seems are missing. There is just too much of everything everywhere to even begin to make a decent start on them. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 23:14, 15 February 2010 (UTC)
Can you use AWB to recategorize those in Template:Places of worship in Riga as Category:Churches in Riga and in doing so remove both placesof worship and churches in latvia cat.? ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 20:37, 16 February 2010 (UTC) Like dat ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 20:39, 16 February 2010 (UTC)

Thanks. Amazing, back in 2007 I was saying "someday there will be info inline about these Argentine films". I've just found loads of info on production etc for the last two films I just googled! ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 20:57, 16 February 2010 (UTC)
I know, remember I created the List of Azerbaijani films? imdb recognises like 2 of 20,000 odd! They have a major film industry over there. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 21:32, 16 February 2010 (UTC) Not to mention directors with sizable filmographies. There is just too much to do everywhere!!!! ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 21:35, 16 February 2010 (UTC) I have an AWB tagging request. Can you paste this into the films Cent briques et des tuiles-Z Italian films of 1965. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 16:47, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. With the new formatting thing I part worked out, part was told I should be able to get all the Italian film by year inserted into the lists rather than having to copy and paste each title. My original goal of course in regards to film was to a full guide to feature films by year and country and info on director/cast/genre/notes. This will obviously take years to get every country up to scratch and filled out and it is time I am not going to be spending solely on it but it is a step in the right direction to have articles red linked, films and actors... ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 16:55, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
No worries I've got it figured out now!! See Italian films of 1954. It will now be possible to make lists by year for each country within a reasonable editing time. I won't do them all at once, but will work on them gradually so soon enough we should at least have the titles by year. Later will come the articles on films and actors of which there are zillions missing... ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 22:47, 18 February 2010 (UTC) Could recategorizing Category:Cities in Xinjiang as Category:Cities, towns and villages in Xinjiang be added to your todo list? ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 14:16, 19 February 2010 (UTC) Check out this. The Hudong encyclopedia category for towns in Xinjiang. I'm hoping to draw up a full list of Townships of China by province but it will need some Chinese editors on the case I'm afraid. I'll scout around and ask some potential people...I just wish I had time to even get a small fraction done of what I want to on here... ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 18:48, 19 February 2010 (UTC) Random article Zangguy. Yikes!! ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 19:00, 19 February 2010 (UTC) Thanks. The crazy thing is that there are 13 prefectures well over a 100 counties I think in Xinjiang and Zangguy is just a division of one of those hundred and something counties yet is still 855 square kilometres!! ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 19:29, 19 February 2010 (UTC) What I'll do I think is start a few lists like List of townships of Xinjiang linked from Township (China) and find as many townships as I can find and then leave them for somebody else to fill.I think by having these lists, however empty it will attract Chinese editors potentially to add them. From a structural point of view I think they are quite important to have an account of these by province.. as they make up the entire country really in terms of area. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 19:41, 19 February 2010 (UTC)
Beefing to say the least. Category:Township-level divisions of China is empty. Accord to 1995 figures there are a total of 47,034.... ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 20:15, 19 February 2010 (UTC) Nope. I'll have to collect scraps of townships lists in some articles or work them out from hudong encyclopedia. Unless of course a member of WP:China can help. I know Neojay had some valuable info on smaller Tibetan towns, I hope he can add them. It should be possible to find most of them by using chinese language google searches but unfortunately many townships names wrongly translate as actual meanings rather than the equivalent name. So for instance Quingyi Township would come out as Town of Apples or osomething, I made that up but you know what I mean. Fortunately it doesn't do that on some of them, those I can find. I have no intentions to start and of the other red linked lists yet but I'll try to piece together Xinjiang first, hopefully with some Chinese assistance. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 20:30, 19 February 2010 (UTC) Grrr it doesn't trans;ate township names very well at all unfortunately. General info is actually OK especially facts and figures. So if somebody could list them and add chinese text I should be able to figure it out. But I need somebody exactly like Neojay to systemaitcally generate a full list for me. Fingers crossed I'll just have to be patient...the thing is Kuqa County according to Chinese wiki not only has 9 townships but contains 218 village development committees. Now if you times that by 47,034 and full coverage of China at present compared to potential is like less than 0.01%! . ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 20:49, 19 February 2010 (UTC)
- Yep a quick check indicates there are 80,717 Neighborhood Committees and 623,669 village divisions (village development committees) in China so a total of 704,386 village-level divisions in China. Now I heard somewhere there are also 638,000 villages in India. That's a potential 1,342,386 articles on Chinese and Indian settlements alone! And what were people saying about "wikipedia running out of topics to write about". As if.. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 20:57, 19 February 2010 (UTC)
I know, and look at the state of most of them.... It seems either they don't exist or are poor stubs. Someday we will have good articles on everyone of them,, in 2150 maybe.... In the meatime it would be better to have 40,000 solid articles on townships in my view... ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 21:12, 19 February 2010 (UTC)
- Finding a balance between quantity and quality though. It is usually impossible to have both!! ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 21:53, 19 February 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. Won;t be doing much today... ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 13:37, 20 February 2010 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Paul Dahm
[edit]You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles. See the Article Wizard.
Thank you.
A tag has been placed on Paul Dahm requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, individual animal(s), an organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.
If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.
For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. VernoWhitney (talk) 17:06, 17 February 2010 (UTC)

Mmm, the London hotels though. You haven't stub classified them but have assumed they are all low importance. Actually several of them are high importance for WP:Hotels and certainly mid-importance for London... ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 22:26, 21 February 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, class=stub, importance=mid ought to do it, I'd say maybe only a few of the smaller boutique hotels would be classed as low but if you think about it the top class hotels in cities such as London and NYC are minimum mid importance I'd say, for the city project too. Low importance a hotel in a small town in Uganda compared to a 5 star hotel in Knightsbridge, different kettle of fish!! Honestly I would not assess the importance of articles using AWB and just class it... OK, no rush.... ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 22:35, 21 February 2010 (UTC)
Yeah I'd say most of the 5 star hotels in global cities such as London, NYC, Tokyo, Hong Kong etc would be high importance for the hotel project.. Core articles would be hotels like Raffles Hotel, Peninsular Hotel in Hong Kong, Waldorf-Astoria, The Savoy in London, The Ritz in Paris etc. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 22:45, 21 February 2010 (UTC)
Appreciate your help. Regards. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 22:41, 21 February 2010 (UTC)

London hotels
[edit]I've done a mass-rollback on your tagging of London hotels as "mid importance". I appreciate it was done in good faith, but WP:LONDON doesn't work to a "what some people think is interesting" scale, but a specific set of criteria; the high and mid importance categories are already very hard for MRSC and myself to keep control of. There's no earthly way that sub-Blofeld ultra-stubs like Radisson Edwardian Heathrow Hotel or Trafalgar Hilton are of as high a priority to the project as Cockney or Inner London (I'm actually nominating quite a few of them for deletion now they've come to my attention; Wikipedia is not a directory of hotel chains' London branches); please, can I ask that before you do "importance grading" runs like this you check with the relevant project what their importance criteria actually are? – iridescent 14:04, 22 February 2010 (UTC)
5 star hotels in London are notable. Fine AFD them all, you are seriously wasting your time.. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 14:48, 22 February 2010 (UTC)
Emailed. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 21:44, 22 February 2010 (UTC)
Rather unexpected isn't it that so many US and Canada place articles are so bad, many unreferenced with nothing but a local amateur looking locator and lack of decent images. You would think that most places would be very good articles.... I can't believe how many smaller towns in the states for instance have no photographs. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 16:50, 26 February 2010 (UTC) Rambot you mean? Yeah I think that's why. But it gives me a headache even beginning to try to sort them out. Most places in the states and canada have the worst quality local community maps I've ever seen, really awful. The category system is a mess and often means people have to raid through hundreds of categories to find a town in a given county or township rather than being able to browse by state as with many other world articles. But you can be pretty certain if I did make a big effort to make them consistent I'd probably be reverted as they will inist on them e.g Towns in ... township rather than even like Category:Cities, towns and villages in .. County. I understand about uninocorporated communities but the towns at least should be better organized.. Most of them are lacking any solid historical information.. My least favourite town articles on wikipedia are US, Canada, India, Pakistan and Japan...In my view it is by no means a coincidence that these countries get a high level of IP edits and accumulation of a lot of unsourced haphard info.. I mean the articles which are cared for and developed within these countries are often excellent but the majority are a mess.. I'd rather expand a sub stub anyday than fix a full length unsourced township article.. ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 17:10, 26 February 2010 (UTC) Random UK like this is just as bad. Maybe I should forget about Timbuktu and focus more on these countries in improving quality. Gives me a headache... The thing is I tend to assume that most anglo articles will be well sourced and monitored.... Some of them are actually as bad as some of the poor African ones!! ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 17:21, 26 February 2010 (UTC) I hadn't actually thought about it before but those are definately the most problematic articles. Where the IP traffic is high the quality seems to be reduced, especially if they are lower importance articles. People just idly browsing, not actively editing the encylopedia just add what they know and before you know it you have haphazard unsourced original research in many articles by a lot of people who probably don't know how to reference.. The thing is if I begin to clean up Cambridgehsire villages there are 300 odd articles. And even if I cleaned them all up in a few weeks there would be 48 more counties with more or less articles in to cleanup and the task is just too big!! It is easier to ignore it and create fresh new stubs... It honestly gives me a big headache even thinking about the scope of the task!! ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 17:53, 26 February 2010 (UTC)
I agree. And people moan about stubs. But they are a lot easier for people to expand and improve than poorly referenced fuller articles in my view.. The bigger problems are the neglected fuller length articles which have a high number of IP traffic and continous additions of haphazard unsourced info without a good editor to sort them out. They are a much bigger problem than any short stubs in my view... And actually it is those articles which are more likely to contain false info and vandalism than many of the stubs.. And that goes for BLPs too. In fact BLP vandalism is a lot harder to detect in fuller articles than stubs. I remember the argument that those short stubs on German politicians were a "huge problem and magnet for vandalism". Actually I'd say that a low-mid level poorly referenced longer article on a politician from the US or UK is under a much greater threat of vandalism.... ‡ Himalayan ‡ ΨMonastery 18:07, 26 February 2010 (UTC)

The article Tom Bimmermann has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- No notability is asserted in the article. There is also a paucity of independent sources available to help expand the article with verifiable material.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Jezebel'sPonyoshhh 20:22, 22 February 2010 (UTC)
