I'm curious

[edit]

I just found something out off your userpage, but I'm as of now unenlightened. Why is <br/> better than <br>? Seegoon (talk) 16:45, 11 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

<br> seems to scream "Close me! Close me!". It's more logical to say <br/> so that you know that there's not supposed to be a closing </br> tag. Also, some MediaWiki messages do not automatically convert <br> to <br/>, so using <br> in them produces XHTML document errors. It's better to just get in the habit of always using <br/>.
If you want to go a bit deeper, <br> is a relic of HTML. HTML was made obsolete by XHTML in 2000, and XHTML is what Wikipedia uses. If you click "View | Page Source" on your browser you can actually see the XHTML DOCTYPE and XHTML tags that make up the page.
So, does that make a little more sense now? —Remember the dot (talk) 19:15, 11 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It does, thank you. Still - it seems counter-intuitive to lengthen code, not to pare it down. But what do I know... I'm here for music articles! Ta. Seegoon (talk) 19:37, 11 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it's better to have code that is slightly longer than to have code that is confusing and can cause errors. All in all, strict XHTML is actually simpler than HTML because they did cut down on unnecessary/duplicate ways of doing things. I suppose it makes more sense to web developers...anyway, thanks for taking the time to understand it better! I can help explain it more if you're interested or you run into problems. —Remember the dot (talk) 21:26, 11 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Isis on the cover of Decibel.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. Deftones

[edit]

I see you are a part of WP:Deftones... I was just wondering if there was any reason why there is no page for the Live in Hawaii DVD and why it hasn't been included on the Discography? Is this on purpose? Just wondering... it is still very resonant amongst fans of the band... you probably already know that. DMighton (talk) 02:25, 17 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't really know much about that – it depends on whether it's an official release or not. Is it? Seegoon (talk) 14:15, 17 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Definately. It is an acoustic performance on different locations in Hawaii...
  1. Headup
  2. Knife Party
  3. Digital Bath
  4. One Weak
  5. Boy's Republic
  6. Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away)
  7. Around the Fur
  8. Feiticeira
  9. Change (In the House of Flies)

"Music in High Places, the ultimate international music and travel adventure series, takes top recording artists to the most ancient sites on earth. Each expedition takes music's biggest artists to the four corners of the globe and features exciting acoustic performances set against the backdrop of earth's most intriguing natural locations. Take an intimate journey with the Deftones as they discover the culture, history and spirituality of Hawaii while performing some of their greatest hits! Songs: Headup, Knife Party, Digital Bath, One Weak, Boy's Republic, Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away), Around the Fur, Feiticeira, Change (In the House of Flies)."

I believe it was originally a tv special for either VH1 or MTV... and it was released on DVD. There are clips of it on YouTube if you want to see some of it. It is good. DMighton (talk) 17:44, 17 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not really sure what's kosher. Check out some recent featured discographies and see if they contain similar material. If so, be bold and create it. If you decide to do so and then need any help, feel free to ask. Seegoon (talk) 12:43, 18 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The O.C. (season 4)

[edit]

Thank you for your copyedit to The O.C. (season 4), however I would like a second opinion on two of your edits.

  1. Here you changed include → included. This is what I originally had but user Gary King told me at FLC (see capped comments) this was wrong, suggesting:
"Actors leaving the cast included" → "Actors who left the cast include"
Having mentioned above something about "nouns masquerading as verbs". I have no idea what this means and just wanted to check for your opinion as my knowledge of English is not the best. I have not undone this edit, as wanted to seek further opinion.
  2. This changes (...) → [...], however this essay says "[brackets] for added text, an ellipsis (...) for removed text" as such I have undone this edit. If you believe a different consensus exists elsewhere, please let me know.

Thanks, Rambo's Revenge (talk) 17:23, 17 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I'm certainly not going to go railing against Gary King! As for #2, I think that "an ellipsis (...) for removed text" is showing what an ellipsis is, not that it should be between parentheses. I think it is far more common to simply use ... than (...), but at university I use [...] for clarity. MLA asks for ... , by the way. Regardless, we're nitpicking here something awful! Let me go and slap a support on. Seegoon (talk) 17:31, 17 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I originally did not notice your comments at FLC, thanks you for those too, they have now, apart from one, also been addressed. Rambo's Revenge (talk) 17:40, 17 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

They already kicked my ass about the images on commons, I never noticed the instructions until yesterday evening so I'm sorry for that.

However, I'll be reuploading the covers in this place in like 500x500 if that's alright.

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Isis on the cover of Decibel.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Skomorokh 13:09, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for signing up at Wikipedia:Peer review/volunteers and for your work doing reviews. The vandalism part was my mistake in that it appeared that every iteration of "county" was replaced with "country". However, the article is not correctly named. I tried to move it to Zhao'an County, but the article already exists. I have tried a couple of times to get the author to realize this, but unfortunately someone's bot (ST47) stepped on my toes in doing so, so the user probably did not see my comments.

(By the way that user's bot is very annoying in that I hardly had time to type anything on the user's page before it jumped ahead of me in doing so. There are other users on his talk page that have complained to him about this.) ++Arx Fortis (talk) 18:17, 28 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please review the history before tagging for speedy delete. You would have seen that one SPA made the otherwise fine stub into spam. An "undo" would have been fine. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 21:06, 11 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OK, so it needs expansion, just c&p'd from another year's article. Mjroots (talk) 19:44, 15 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

My thinking was simply that it must be either all major launches, or not include the word 'all'. Not trying to cause trouble, it was just me being picky. Seegoon (talk) 20:10, 15 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Have expanded it a bit :-) Mjroots (talk) 21:32, 15 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If you wanted the article transwikified, you didn't need an AFD discussion. AFD is for discussing deletion. You could've tagged the article with {{Move to Wiktionary}} instead which would cause someone to move it and follow up with a deletion after the move was finished. - Mgm|(talk) 11:50, 26 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, cool. I thought there must've been a quicker way to do that. Thanks, Seegoon (talk) 12:00, 26 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I saw this message above and wanted to note that I found at least 2 images on Flickr that are freely licensed already that could replace the non-free image: [2] and [3]. The Commons has bots that can even transfer these files for us. Hopefully this helps. If I can be more assistance, or if you want me to upload either or both of them, I'd be glad to help. -Andrew c [talk] 03:35, 3 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Absolutely; I uploaded it in earlier days of naivete and optimism. I think the second one is better. And cooler. I'm okay to upload etc, but if you fancy doing so then go for it! Cool of you to drop by and help. Seegoon (talk) 16:01, 4 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The bots are easy. I've gone ahead and uploaded both of them. You can add one or both to the article to replace the non-free, or do whatever else you see fit. Marlon King

[edit]

Hey there. I've made a comment concerning your recent edit at his talk page. I'm wary of looking as though I'm getting into an edit war (one particularly bold edit earlier in the day was extremely quickly reverted). While I agree with the PFA's mention, I'm not sure why Wenger or Hodgson's opinions are particularly relevant, whether the BBC have reported them or not.

As an aside, I was wondering if you were interested in taking a look at Watford F.C.? I notice that you've been active there in the past, and quite a lot's happened to it in the last few weeks or so. Thanks in advance, WFCforLife (talk) 21:36, 30 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, that'd be great. At the moment my biggest focus is the main article, and Watford F.C. season 2009-10. I'm not sure about the prose quality, but I think there's the potential to make both into a featured articles once the prose is up to scratch. As for Marlon, it seems most people agree with your edit. I think I'm just being oversensitive to the fact that the section on his court case has in two days grown bigger than the section on his entire time at Watford! WFCforLife (talk) 23:33, 30 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I wasn't actually thinking about Marlon King, although now that you mention it I see that as an interesting challenge. Probably best to leave it for a while though lol. Actually meant the main Watford article, which I think has a lot of potential. User:HornetMike is very busy in real life, but will be able to help source it. I've done a fair bit of work on it, and there's yourself and at least two other regular contributors (one IP, one called HornetEd, who did this extremely impressive list. I think the main thing is to try and keep the talk pages on the Watford articles (and particularly Watford F.C.) active. I think if we can drum up a bit of interest and belief that Watford articles and lists can be great things, people will want to be part of it. Check out WP:SOUNDERS for an example of just what can be done with a team of people working on a relatively small club. WFCforLife (talk) 23:58, 30 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Titus Soundtrack edit

[edit]

This is response to your comment on my talk page. I provided an explanation for my edit on the discussion page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.82.220.58 (talk) 19:10, 29 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

With that taken into account your edit seems fair; I hope you can understand that it just looked like section blanking by an anonymous user to me, sat itch-trigger-fingered at Huggle. Seegoon (talk) 22:20, 29 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hell on Wheels and other Cher articles

[edit]

Hi Seegoon! I read that you are in the Wikipedia:PRV and I need someone who help me with the copyedit because I try to promote every articles-releated with Cher to Good Status. Can you help with this song (Hell on Wheels (song)) and in future for others articles of Cher? Kekkomereq4 (talk) 21:53, 24 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Resources

[edit]

Re: this, the British Film Institute provides an index of resources for most films, depending on their prominence. I can access the database through my university account, so let me know if you'd like such a list for a particular film. Erik (talk) 13:19, 27 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for File:Miles Kelly logo.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Miles Kelly logo.png. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 18:05, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Altered speedy deletion rationale: Deluna - Millennium Winter

[edit]

Hello Seegoon. I am just letting you know that I deleted Deluna - Millennium Winter, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, under a different criterion from the one you provided, which doesn't fit the page in question. Thank you. PhantomSteve/talk|contribs\ 00:16, 20 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ah. Sorry for miscategorising. Out of interest, what was the criterion which it did meet? So I know for any future prospective murderous manga authors' creations, ya know. Seegoon (talk) 00:21, 20 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
