Insulting behaviour by User Nohat

[edit]

I have asked a simple question to one user Nohat at this page http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Talk:List_of_English_words_of_Tamil_origin What is your level of knowledge regarding Dravidian Languages.

He terms this as "a stupid question" (Nohat 04:52, 14 March 2006 (UTC)

My request to other administrators is to kindly tell whether the above question is vandalism. How can some one term my question as "stupid". Does an administrator in Wikipedia automatically gets rights to call others by insulting terms and also brand a question asking for academic credentials ("level of knowledge regarding Dravidian Languages") as "stupid"

To whom should we report this. What is Wikipedia and other admins going to do for such high handed behaviour. What is the solution for this.Doctor Bruno 11:46, 15 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:Manuscript.gif

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Manuscript.gif. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 06:41, 16 April 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Ramanujam's House.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Angr (talkcontribs) 18:49, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, Saravan

[edit]

Hi, Saravan!

I just noticed that you started the page Ramanujan's continued fractions. Thank you for putting that beautiful material into Wikipedia. I love continued fractions myself, and Ramanujan found some of the very prettiest ones I've ever seen. Unfortunately, the entire subject area of continued fractions is poorly represented in Wikipedia. I'm trying to put that right, but have already gotten into some arguments with editors here who apparently think that the partial numerators and partial denominators of continued fractions have to be integers, if you can believe that!

Anyway, I suppose you have already heard this story, but since you seem to like Ramanujan's stuff quite a lot, I'm going to bore you with a repetition. Hardy and Ramanujan were traveling through London one day when they passed a house numbered 1729. Hardy remarked that he noticed nothing particularly unusual about the integer 1729. Ramanujan immediately pointed out that 1729 is the smallest natural number that can be expressed as the sum of two perfect cubes in two different ways.

I first read that story when I was 10 years old. I have esteemed Ramanujan and his work very highly ever since. I think it's a pity he passed away when he was still so young. Perhaps if he had lived longer more mathematicians would rank him as highly as Euler, the way you do.

Well, thanks again for making important and very solid contributions to Wikipedia. Best always. DavidCBryant 12:12, 8 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've been working on quite a few articles about continued fractions. Now I'm looking at Ramanujan's continued fractions, and I think it should be moved to a new title, "Almost integers". Since you were the major contributor to this article under its present name, I'm letting you know that I intend to move it. DavidCBryant 17:08, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tirunelveli

[edit]

The importance of this article has been assessed! Thanks for reporting it.

It's very pleasing to know that there are very keen and assertive editors out here in the WikiProject India like you. I have hopes that the article, Tirunelveli will become one of the best with all your assistance. If you go to this article's talk page, and go to the assessment comments, you will see I have updated my feedback - I have added a step by step guide that you and fellow editors of the article should follow. This guide specifies how you should structure the sections of this particular article, and the contents of those sections. This will definitely improve the quality of your article, and probably it's grade when it's ready for a reassessment. I hope that my comments become of some use to you and your fellow editors. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any other queries. Best wishes. Ncmvocalist 14:23, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Palaruvi Express, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Tamil (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
