Information icon Hello. Your recent edit to St. Paul's School, Darjeeling appears to have added the name of a non-notable entity to a list that normally includes only notable entries. In general, a person, organization or product added to a list should have a pre-existing article before being added to most lists. If you wish to create such an article, please first confirm that the subject qualifies for a separate, stand-alone article according to Wikipedia's notability guideline. Thank you.

Please don't add wikipedia.org links to the text of articles. That is not how to add links. Please review the basics on Wikipedia formatting before adding or changing anything else. This is a good place to start. Thank you, Jessicapierce (talk) 18:09, 17 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Rather than adding "footnotes", use the ref and /ref tags to add a citation. You're breaking the text flow with your current style of citation. --regentspark (comment) 17:21, 4 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Also, the citation shoul support the fact that the person attended the school. If the person is blue linked (i.e., an article on the individual exists), the linked page should have cited support that the person attended St. Paul's. If it is redlinked, in addition to the citation supporting school attendance, there should be some indication of notability in that (or a second) citation. I notice you've been warned about citations before so please be careful going forward. Best wishes. --regentspark (comment) 17:25, 4 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello. Your recent edits to St. Paul's School, Darjeeling appear to be adding names of people to a list that should include only notable entries. I have sought to verify the entries, but 6 of the first 10 that I checked fail verification. In those instances, your provided source doesn't mention St. Paul's at all. Additionally, your references need to be cited from a reliable source. In general, a person added to a list should have a pre-existing article before being added to most lists. If you wish to create articles for these people, please first confirm that the subject qualifies for a separate, stand-alone article according to Wikipedia's notability guideline. (Either write the articles first or provide a reliable source for verifiability per WP:SOURCELIST and to demonstrate that the person meets the Wikipedia notability requirements per WP:LISTPEOPLE.)Scottyoak2 (talk) 02:49, 5 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Also, will you please stop with the footnote stuff, it is getting annoying. And please respond here so that we know you're reading all these messages otherwise you will be blocked merely to get your attention. --regentspark (comment) 13:49, 5 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Arnold mukhia. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page St. Paul's School, Darjeeling, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Drmies (talk) 16:52, 5 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I work in this institution so how can there be conflict of interested... I improved a lot but my hard work went in vain. Arnold mukhia (talk) 17:07, 5 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Your work is still available in the page history. I started a discussion on the talk page at Talk:St. Paul's School, Darjeeling#Notable alumni including links to find your additions. You can propose names to be added to the article there to be considered by other editors. For other changes your should start new sections using the link at the top of the page and adding {{request edit}} template. Richard-of-Earth (talk) 02:15, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

WP:LINKEDIN and WP:Twitter-EL can be used, but please try to find better sources if you can. These are both WP:PRIMARY sources that are WP:SELFPUBLISH. WP:BLPSELFPUB says they can be used but give a checklist of things to consider before using them. But these sources can only be used to establish that the person went to St. Pauls. If they do not have a Wikipedia article, you will need another source to establish notability. Richard-of-Earth (talk) 05:59, 10 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are PD or compatibly licensed) it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions, the help desk or the Teahouse before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps in Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate. See also Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. I also removed it because it sounded a bit promo. I have a storng feeling you have a COI, seeing your other messages. Please don't edit St. Paul's School, Darjeeling for the time being. Thank you. Signed,The4lines |||| (You Asked?) Information icon Hello. You provided several references but they do not satisfy Wikipedia notability criteria. Gab4gab (talk) 13:35, 6 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

IAS office and chief secretary and captain of a state in cricket team is very notable. He was a figure In Odisha administration. Kindly reinstate it Samkeyta (talk) 12:23, 18 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Your claims of notability are not convincing. You seem to be expressing your personal view of notability rather than the Wikipedia consensus view of the term. If you are confident he is notable then write a stub biography for him before restoring his name to the list. It takes little time to create a stub article. Perhaps you are concerned that his article would not survive at Articles for Deletion. Your pattern of adding red-link names to the list and repeatedly restoring them when other editors object is not helpful. Gab4gab (talk) 13:40, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I do not think this editor can create articles since the mobile app is being used for all his edits. Also, I do not think the difficulty is this editor is being nonobjective. The problem is he is going by how other schools are represented on Wikipedia. The Lawrence School, Sanawar#Notable alumni looks to be the worse, but List of Martinians has some too. List of The Doon School alumni has them as well, but they simply do not link the names so you do not see the redlinks. We know WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS does not justify an addition, but try to understand this editor's viewpoint. Also, I do not know which specific entry he is referring to, but see WP:NCRICKET to see if this fellow deserves an article. Richard-of-Earth (talk) 15:52, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I hadn't thought of editors unable to create articles - makes adding new names to the alumni list who don't yet have articles an awkward choice of tasks. Based on my understanding of cricket notability I've created a stub for Lalat Indu Parija. Gab4gab (talk) 16:39, 20 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Jessicapierce. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, St. Paul's School, Darjeeling, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at the tutorial on citing sources. Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, please note that there is a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Deviating from this style, as you did in St. Paul's School, Darjeeling, disturbs uniformity among articles and may cause readability or accessibility problems. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Jessicapierce (talk) 01:41, 7 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! But I fail to understand how additions of building and structures need citations. Samkeyta (talk) 02:24, 7 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Your addition to the article included claims such as directors' names and when they served, when buildings were constructed or removed, who the buildings were named after, the origin of building materials, enrollment numbers, the motto and emblem details... in short, it's a long history of the school, with zero references given. This is not acceptable - you need to show some sort of proof that these things happened.
The equally problematic issue is that your contribution was full of errors such as random capital letters, which would take other editors a long time to fix. Your additions need to conform to the Manual of Style as much as you are able, or you're putting an unfair burden on to other editors.
It you cannot provide references and correct text, keep in mind that you can always post a request on the article's Talk page regarding any changes or additions you'd like to see made. Jessicapierce (talk) 03:34, 7 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
