Conflict of interest in Wikipedia[edit]

Hi xSamMiller55A - I work on conflict of interest issues here in Wikipedia. Your edits to date are about Davey Tree Expert Company and are somewhat promotional. I'm giving you notice of our Conflict of Interest guideline and Terms of Use, and will have some comments and requests for you below.

Hello, SamMiller55A. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, please:

instead propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);

Comments and requests[edit]

Wikipedia is a widely-used reference work and managing conflict of interest is essential for ensuring the integrity of Wikipedia and retaining the public's trust in it. As in academia, COI is managed here in two steps - disclosure and a form of peer review. Please note that there is no bar to being part of the Wikipedia community if you want to be involved in articles where you have a conflict of interest;; there are just some things we ask you to do (and if you are paid, some things you need to do).

Disclosure is the most important, and first, step. While I am not asking you to disclose your identity (anonymity is strictly protecting by our WP:OUTING policy) would you please disclose if you have some connection with Davey Tree Expert Company? You can answer how ever you wish (giving personally identifying information or not), but if there is a connection, please disclose it. After you respond (and you can just reply below), perhaps we can talk a bit about editing Wikipedia, to give you some more orientation to how this place works. Thank you for your contributions. It seems that you may have added public domain content to one or more Wikipedia articles, such as Davey Tree Expert Company. You are welcome to import appropriate public domain content to articles, but in order to meet the Wikipedia guideline on plagiarism, such content must be fully attributed. This requires not only acknowledging the source, but acknowledging that the source is copied. There are several methods to do this described at Wikipedia:Plagiarism#Public-domain sources, including the usage of an attribution template. January 2022[edit]

Your recent editing history at Confidence trick shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See the bold, revert, discuss cycle for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you do not violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. MrOllie (talk) This is not an edit war. I cleaned it up... i had examples before. I'm unsure why my edits were removed when they are facts on both areas that were relased by the FTC. I was mad at him the second time so I made an unprofessional comment to him which I am sorry for. I just didn't understand. ohnoitsjamie (ohnoitsjamie) I'm sorry again for the comment. I cleaned it up the second time for what you felt were unconstructive comments. This is big news so wanted people to know about online scams since it is very current and growing quickly. People use wikipedia for real info so wanted to present that. Confidence trick is intended to be a broad description of what a confidence trick is; we don't need to plaster that article with examples. You added the same material to Internet fraud, where it didn't really add anything new; I agree with MrOllies revert there on the basis of WP:NOTNEWS.
