GOCE Elections
Hi Diannaa and The Utahraptor, I would like to draw your attention to Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/Coordinators and Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/Coordinators/2011. Please share your thoughts and comments on the Coordinators project page. Thanks! – S Masters (talk) 04:47, 12 November 2010 (UTC)
- Thank you so much for getting this started. Everything looks brilliant, and I already have a discussion thread I want to start on the talk page! --Diannaa (Talk) 04:54, 12 November 2010 (UTC)
- Excellent! See you there. – S Masters (talk) 04:57, 12 November 2010 (UTC)
My thanks
Hi, just wanted to say, firstly, thanks for putting up the Australian English template on Mary MacKillop after, I assume, seeing my edit summary. It was something I was meaning to do when I reverted but it completely slipped my mind. Secondly, I was quite impressed with the way you handled yourself in relation to the move proposals (also on Mary MacKillop). I've seen quite a few move proposals where the editor that suggested the move has become quite argumentative when consensus has gone against them and I just thought I'd say that you handled yourself with aplomb throughout and that, although I opposed the move, I do think that in time (not sure when) the move will become necessary. - Yes, I did do that after seeing your your edit summary. :-) Well, the thing about democracy is that we need to hear everyone out, and I am not always right. I think that it was the proper thing to do as it has become her official name, but since others disagree, then we have to wait. Maybe in a year or so when the official name is used everywhere, this position might change. But thanks for your very kind words, I really appreciate it, and it put a smile on my face. :-) – S Masters (talk) 01:17, 13 November 2010 (UTC)
November midway newsletter
A first draft of the midway point newsletter is available at User:The Utahraptor/Goce newsletters for further editing. Thanks. I think the Bot is available for delivery this time. --Diannaa (Talk) 02:26, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
- Done, thank you. – S Masters (talk) 03:08, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
- Since frequently going over the different lists of GOCE members is pretty tedious, I think we should create a project subpage at Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/Newsletter sign-up. This way, we won't have to do the tedious work of repeatedly digging for GOCE members. And any member can opt-out of it at any time. Thoughts? The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 13:57, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
- Neat idea. I think it's better calling it /Mailing List instead. We can then manually include everyone there first, arrange it in alphabetical order, and allow anyone to remove themselves if they want. Alternatively, it is a lot less work using AWB(?), as it can pull data from a page. We did use it a while ago, but I don't know how to use it myself, despite having downloaded the program. If someone can teach me, I don't mind helping to send things out. – S Masters (talk) 14:20, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
- Ask Noraft for help. He's experienced with AWB. I'll get started compiling the list. The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 14:23, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
- OK, but I am really busy and traveling overseas tomorrow, so maybe later in the week. – S Masters (talk) 14:35, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive!
We have reached the midway point in our backlog elimination drive, so here is an update. Participation report — The November drive has 53 participants at this point. We had 77 participants in the September drive. In July, 95 people signed up for the drive, and in May we had 36. If you are not participating, it is not too late to join! Progress report — The drive is quite successful so far, as we have already almost reached our target of a 10% reduction in the number of articles in the backlog. We are doing very well at keeping our Requests page clear, as those articles count double for word count for this drive. Please keep in mind the possibility of removing other tags when you are finished with an article. If the article no longer needs {{cleanup}}, {{wikify}}, or other similar maintenance tags, please remove them, as this will make the tasks of other WikiProjects easier to complete. Thanks very much for participating in the Drive, and see you at the finish line!

Look out for copyedit typo's
Hey, thanks for your help copyediting - you may want to double-check your copyedits for typo's, as i noticed that you had inadvertently introduced one in This edit. Again, thanks for copyediting "my" article, your version is nicer and i know how irritatingly persistent typing habits can be. Ajbpearce (talk) 17:08, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
- Oops, I'm very sorry for that. It doesn't normally happen (or I hope it doesn't). I guess my eyes are too tired now from copyediting all day (including a 16,000 word article), and I should stop for today. – S Masters (talk) 17:13, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
- Ouch, I'm not sure i've ever seen a nominally start class article with 250! citations before. You have my thanks & sympathy! Ajbpearce (talk) 17:20, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
Here's a thought
I saw that we have a symbol for the coordinators. I was wondering if you would like to make that into a top icon? The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 13:03, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
- I'm thinking of changing them as they were copied from MILHIST. Give me a few days to upload the new ones. Cheers. – SMasters (talk) 13:20, 15 November 2010 (UTC)

Thank you!
Thank you very much for going through the article thoroughly enough to eliminate spaces. It is very much appreciated. If I could just intrude on your time once more, do you think this article is ready for a nomination to GA status? If not, what do you think it needs? Also, any suggestions about how to make it even better would be appreciated too. Thanks in advance! Chipmunkdavis (talk) 17:16, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
- Sorry for the late reply. I wanted to go through the article again as I was not happy with the numerous repetition of words, in particular, "Malaysia/Malaysian" and "Celebrate/s". I have given it another once over and have tried to reduce these. If you see some more, please do rephrase the sentences. For example, I found three consecutive sentences that all had Malaysia in it, making it extremely repetitive and completely unnecessary. But otherwise, yes, I enjoyed the article. I think as long as you have addressed all the points brought up in the PR (or was it a GAN?), then you should try to go for a GA. It should be very close to GA standards, if not already there. Cheers. – SMasters (talk) 08:20, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
- Indeed, it pops up 440 times on google find (although that includes references etc.). I'll cut that down now, especially in the lede! Chipmunkdavis (talk) 09:06, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
- Excellent, keep up the good work. The technical copyedit is now complete. All the best with the GA, and give me a shout if you need more help. Cheers. - SMasters (talk) 15:53, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
