Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions; however, please remember the essential rule of respecting copyrights. Edits to Wikipedia, such as your edit to the page Bashiruddin Babukhan, may not contain material from copyrighted sources unless that text is available under a suitable free license. It is almost never okay to copy extensive text out of a book or website and paste it into a Wikipedia article with little or no alteration, though you can clearly and briefly quote copyrighted text in the right circumstances. Content that does not comply with this legal rule must be removed. For more information on this, see:

If you still have questions, there is the Teahouse, or you can click here to ask a question on your talk page and someone will be along to answer it shortly. As you get started, you may find the pages below to be helpful.

I hope you enjoy editing Wikipedia! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. Feel free to write a note on the bottom of my talk page if you want to get in touch with me. Again, welcome! — Diannaa (talk) 14:35, 10 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Good Morning
Thanks a lot for your kind message.
My name is Khaled and I am working on behalf of the Babukhan inheritors, who ultimately own all that is mentioned in public domain about their forefathers and the family, is my understanding. Perhaps I may be totally wrong.
I am therefore writing to seek your kind guidance on this matter, apart from the copyright issues already found on your website.
Anticipatory thanks & Best regards.
Respectfully,
M.S.Khaled 124.123.33.142 (talk) 06:28, 11 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't copy things to Wikipedia that you find on other websites. Almost everything you find online is protected by copyright, and can't be copied here unless released under a compatible license. — Diannaa (talk) 16:32, 11 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Khan Bahadur Abdul Karim Babukhan requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://www.siasat.com/khan-bahadur-abdul-karim-babukhan-a-prominent-aristocrat-of-par-excellence-2410020/. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Hello SFGSADM. The nature of your edits, such as the one you made to Khan Bahadur Abdul Karim Babukhan, gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:SFGSADM. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=SFGSADM|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 18:57, 11 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Good Morning
Thanks a lot for your kind message.
My name is Mohammed S. Khaled and, even though I have taken up a post-retirement assignment at the Babukhan Group to keep myself busy, and am writing on behalf of the Babukhan inheritors, I can assure you that I am neither asking for it nor am I getting paid directly or indirectly for my contributions on Wikipedia. It is purely on my own that I want to ensure factual accuracy by adding historically vital details I find missing on the most reliable knowledge hub, i.e. Wikipedia, that is available to the younger generation today.
It was my understanding that the Babukhan inheritors ultimately own all that is mentioned in public domain about their forefathers and the family, but I am now told that I was wrong which I wholeheartedly accept.
I am therefore most grateful for your kind guidance on this matter, and also assure you that I will adhere to all your terms and conditions going forward.
Many thanks again & Best regards.
Respectfully,
M.S.Khaled SFGSADM (talk) 14:54, 12 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your courteous reply. However odd it may seem, we don't care whether you're being paid specifically to edit Wikipedia on behalf of the family. If you are paid by (or expect to be paid by or to receive other reward from) the family or any member thereof then you must make appropriate paid-editor disclosure before making any edit relating to the family, any member of it past or present, or any activity, asset or business to which any such member is connected in any way. I left you instructions for this above, but if for any reason they are not fully clear to you, do please ask (here on this page) for any help you may need. Regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 17:24, 12 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
HELP PLEASE - Good Morning - I now fully understand why I am blocked, I assure you that I will never repeat my mistakes again. I also assure you that I will either contribute ensuring full compliance with all your policies or will not contribute at all. Please therefore restore at least those additions of mine on the "Bashiruddin Babukhan" Article which are removed indiscriminately as presumptive deletion even though I appropriately linked them to their mention elsewhere on the Wikipedia itself. I reiterate that my only purpose is to ensure factual accuracy by adding historically vital details I find missing on the most reliable knowledge hub, i.e. Wikipedia, that is available to the younger generation today. I would also be most grateful for your kind understanding and cooperation in unblocking me - Many thanks and Best regards. SFGSADM (talk) 05:37, 28 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for violating copyright policy by copying text or images into Wikipedia from another source without evidence of permission, as you did at Bashiruddin Babukhan. Please take this opportunity to ensure that you understand our copyright policy and our policies regarding how to use non-free content.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please review Wikipedia's guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 21:32, 26 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Good Morning

Many thanks for alerting me. Please be assured that I am particularly careful not to break any Wikipedia rules and regulations, though I may have done so quite inadvertently, for which I sincerely apologise. To ensure compliance I have mostly created links first of all to the existing Wikipedia page. Only when that is not available did I create link to such external content which is already in the public domain on the internet. For example, the relevant page of the "Siasat" Newspaper which is already in the public domain on the internet.
Anyway, henceforth I will not publish anything directly and will only go through you to ensure that I am not breaking any of the Wikipedia rules and regulations. SFGSADM (talk) 05:18, 27 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

You seem to misunderstand copyright. Something is not in public domain just because it's on the Internet; and the "relevant page of the Siasat newspaper" says quite clearly, "Copyright © Siasat Daily, 2023. All Rights Reserved". You'll need to demonstrate an improved understanding of copyright before you'll be allowed to return to editing here. --jpgordon𝄢𝄆𝄐𝄇 05:47, 27 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Reply:- Thanks for your prompt response. I stand corrected and reiterate that henceforth I will not publish anything directly and will only go through you to ensure that I am not breaking any of the Wikipedia rules and regulations. Once you understand the copyright issues, at least enough to demonstrate that to us, you may request unblock at that time. There is no deadline for this, take all the time you need. We will want to see in your own words that you understand what copyright is, Wikipedia's license is, and when and how copyrighted content may be used on Wikipedia. Reading WP:COPYVIO may help you. I am declining your request. 331dot (talk) 10:45, 27 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Good Morning I thank you for your kind guidance. As suggested I have familiarized myself as follows: -what copyright is? To control creators' ownership so as to ensure appropriate reward to them for their creations, and to prevent any unauthorized use or misuse of the creations there are laws in place globally, known as Copyright Laws, which are to be followed by one and all. -what Wikipedia's license is? On a 'fair-use' policy, most of the Wikipedia's contents are freely available governed by the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA) and the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL). -when and how copyrighted content may be used on Wikipedia? Though Wikipedia is non-profit itself, use any copyrighted or non-free material must only be with the appropriate permissions from the creators. SFGSADM (talk) 05:05, 1 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

This is not correct. Your answer to "when and how copyrighted content may be used on Wikipedia?" is completely wrong. Yamla (talk) 11:01, 1 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a lot for your prompt response. Please allow me to reword my understanding: -when copyrighted content may be used on Wikipedia? When it is in the public domain or its copyright is clearly disclaimed. -how copyrighted content may be used on Wikipedia? By obtaining due permission from the copyright owners. Hope the foregoing is satisfactory. Thanks again for all the help. SFGSADM (talk) 04:48, 2 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Unblock discussion

[edit]

@Justlettersandnumbers: I find this incorrect and inadequate. Or am I being too obsessive? -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 08:04, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Deepfriedokra! Yes, I have to agree, there just isn't a clear enough understanding of our copyright policy; I would already have unblocked – with strict conditions – if I'd seen anything I thought adequate here. There's also the WP:COIPAID aspect, which was not the reason for the block but should also be considered.
SFGSADM, is it clear to you that even if you show better understanding of our copyright policy and are unblocked you will still, as a paid editor, be very strongly discouraged from making any edit to any article relating to the Babukhan family? Can you give a few examples of articles or topics where you might wish to contribute? Thank you, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 08:57, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so very much for your kind clarification. Honestly, I spent a lot of time in doing my best to understand your copyright policy which, as you now say, will not make much difference and I will still be discouraged from editing any article relating to the Babukhans because I am regarded as an editor paid by them. While that is not entirely true I am leaving that to be as it may. I respect your judgement and surrender with just one earnest request. Please restore at least those additions of mine on the "Bashiruddin Babukhan" Article which are indiscriminately removed as presumptive deletion even though I appropriately linked them to their mention elsewhere on the Wikipedia itself. I reiterate that my only purpose here is to ensure factual accuracy by adding historically vital details I find missing on the most reliable knowledge hub, i.e. Wikipedia, which is available to the younger generation today. Going forward I neither have the time nor the intention to make any contributions in contravention to any of your policies. Respectfully, M.S.Khaled. @Justlettersandnumbers: OK to decline? I don't want to jump in without asking. -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 07:25, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Much appreciated, Deepfriedokra, though not really necessary. I'm afraid my answer is yes – the user does not seem to be able to grasp what the problems are here. Regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 10:18, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
