Bots
[edit]You always seem to amaze me with these bots. How do you configure AWB to deliver newsletters? --IdeologyTalk to me £ 02:56, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
- You use the "append feature". --R ParlateContribs@ (Let's Go Yankees!) 18:53, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
- Another question that, after you answer, will cause me to say "oh...duh." With AWB, how do you prevent the program from adding a template already on the page? Say adding the template {{WikiProject Lehigh Valley}} to a article talk page that already has the template on the page... Thanks! Wikihermit(Speak) £ 04:55, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
- You tell it to skip pages with that template already on it. The option should be somewhere on the 1st tab. alphachimp 06:57, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
- Duh...I was trying to skip talk pages with the template {{Wikiproject Lehigh Valley}}, but the correct template is {{WikiProject Lehigh Valley}}(capital P). User error. Thanks! Wikihermit(Speak) £ 13:17, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Just out of curiosity, is your bot Automatic, semi-automatic, or manually assisted? ~ ΜΛGиυs ΛΠιмυМ ≈ √∞ 19:37, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

- Both. (I have this page watchlisted [I don't know why I din't tell you earlier. :-] ].) ~ ΜΛGиυs ΛΠιмυМ ≈ √∞ 21:14, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
- I have to manually do some things with AWB before a run (on my computer, no edits to Wikipedia manually), but once it starts, I do nothing, and all edits are automated, and I don't have to hit the save button. --R ParlateContribs@ (Let's Go Yankees!) 21:20, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

My RfA
[edit]WikiProject Alternative music
[edit]That'd be great! I've been searching for a bot that would automatically distribute the newsletter, but couldn't find anything. It's usually (or will be) delivered on the 1st on each month, and it's not subst'ed. Thanks! CloudNine 18:57, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
- Yup, looks good to me. The only problem may be that the members list is a table, which makes a little harder to parse; you've probably realised this already though. Anyhow, thanks again! (The automated message looks fine; it's another weight off my shoulders!) CloudNine 19:16, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
Newsletter for Wikiproject Aquarium Fishes
[edit]That would be really great! I'll appreciate it a lot. I'll put the directions for WP:AQF newsletter delivery for your bot at User:R Delivery Bot/Directions and then you can start the delivery anytime for the June issue. Thanks a lot. --Melanochromis 19:42, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
- Well, the idea is that the word "fishes" emphasizes that there are different kinds of fishes (species and so on), while "fish" refers to this group of animals as a whole. It's something we inherited from our parent project, the Wikiproject Fishes. --Melanochromis 19:50, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
- I've put the directions at User:R Delivery Bot/Directions. Unlike Alternative Music, the Aquarium Fishes newsletter for June is the June issue (not May issue). Thanks again and please let me know if there's anything else I can do to accomodate your bot. --Melanochromis 20:03, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
- That's perfectly fine for me. You can start delivering the June issue anytime you're ready. I'm quite excited to see this. --Melanochromis 20:17, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

Name problem
[edit]Hi, I'm fr:User:R and I have just discovered that you are using the name "R" here. As I've been active (and well-known) on fr: since 2003, I think this situation is quite confusing and should cease. What do you think? _R_ 14:36, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
- I don't find it confusing at all. And if someone thought we were the same we could fix that problem by putting on notice on both our userpages that we are not each other. Also, in my babel userboxes, I have nothing that says I speak French. I think it's fine. --R ParlateContribs@ (Let's Go Yankees!) 20:19, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Have I gone crazy? This template doesn't seem to be working. Take a look: Wikipedia:WikiProject Christianity/Outreach/Welcome
--Wikihermit (Talk • HermesBot) 03:30, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
- No. It's located at Template:Wikipedia:WikiProject Christianity/Outreach/Welcome , which is why it works in the header for this section. The Wikipedia part isn't actually a namespace in this case, but I guess they just want to use the whole title in a template. It's really in the template namespace. (That's why it worked when you used the {{t1|}} template, because that automatically inserts template at the beginning. --R ParlateContribs@ (Let's Go Yankees!) 11:06, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
- Fixed. Thanks for your help. I needed it at 11 o'clock last night. :-) --Wikihermit (Talk • HermesBot) 21:12, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
WikiProject Newsletter
[edit]Hi R
That would be fantastic if you could do that, it would save me alot of work :D. The newsletter will be finished by the end of every month, so a delivery time somewhere in the first few days of the month would be great. And yeah, the newsletter is subst'd. The new version will always be here under the heading "Future Issues" Thank you very much for your kind offer! Grover 10:35, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
- Everything looks good there. Again, thanks very much for this! Grover 04:46, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
My Recent RFA
[edit]Thanks for giving your input at my rfa. Their are a few things I would like to address. First of all, I'm not homophobic. Like I've told other users, I created the userbox so other users would be able to use the userbox if they felt so inclined. I'm not seeking status in anyway; I'm simply trying to improve the project. To clarify your respond to question one, I meant WP:RFPP gets cleared out quickly, not speedy deletion. Again, thanks for your input. --Wikihermit (Talk • HermesBot) 04:37, 10 June 2007 (UTC)
- Clarifying the Xfd closure as well. I didn't mean closing the xfds, but going ahead with the deletion. --Wikihermit (Talk • HermesBot) 04:42, 10 June 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry to bug you again, but what bad experiences have you had with me? --Wikihermit (Talk • HermesBot) 04:43, 10 June 2007 (UTC)
- I still don't see what you mean by the xFD comment above and by the "I would close out various Xfd's (with the exception of CFD) that have clear consensus. I would leave other ones without the clearest consensus to the more experienced users." statement. About the experiences. It's been nothing major that would make me oppose for only that reason. It's a few little things, which combined with all the other things I said, made me oppose. --(Review Me) R ParlateContribs@(Let's Go Yankees!) 14:00, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

Newsletter Deliveries
[edit]Hello, R, I've noticed you operate a bot which specializes in delivering Newsletters. WikiProject Red Hot Chili Peppers could certainly use it's specialties, as we have over 35 members. The next newsletter is scheduled for Saturday, June 23rd. If possible, could we begin using your bot to deliver our monthly Newsletter to the 35 odd members of the RHCP Wikiproject? I assume writing and giving it to you on Friday would be optimal. If not (or if you aren't willing to have your bot deliver newsletters for us) then just drop me a line when you've responded here. If I watch this page it'll just get lost in my mess of watched articles, so just remind me. Thanks, regardless. NSR77 TC 03:24, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
- I'd be happy to have the bot do it. All I need to know is where the newsletter page is, if there's an opt-out list, and if the newsletter is substed. Also, is the newsletter delivered on the same day each month? --(Review Me) R ParlateContribs@ (Let's Go Yankees!) 11:34, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
- No, it's generally on different days, but more towards the end of the month. I'll get to writing it late Friday, Early Saturday (UTC), and then post a link to it on your talk page, or the bots. There is currently only one user opting out, but I'll provide the necessary information then. Thanks a lot! Regards, NSR77 TC 15:35, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
- Here's the newsletter: currently, the only user who has opted out of receiving the publication is WereWolf, as he's retired. Other than that, the newsletter should fit relatively easily on the Talk page directly, without having to post a link. If you run into any trouble, just drop me a line. Thanks again for everything and best wishes. NSR77 TC
- Okay. I have to go now, I'm getting tired (where I am, it just turned Saturday and it's past 12 midnight). I still need to know, is the newsletter substed? Tomorrow, I'll put the directions to myself together, and have you check it out. Once you okay them, I'll start the run. --(Review Me) R ParlateContribs@ (Let's Go Yankees!) 04:22, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
- I may be a little slow in the programming terminology, or I've just forgotten, but what, in fact, is substed? NSR77 TC 04:27, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
- WP:SUBST#Definition. Substing puts the code on the newsletter page on the talk page, instead of just {{Newsletter}}. They both look the same in reading mode, but substing expands the text. --(Review Me) R ParlateContribs@ (Let's Go Yankees!) 04:33, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
- Haha, never quite new there was a name for that. But yeah, it's substed. :) NSR77 TC 04:42, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
- Everything looks great, and I'll create an opt-out list for next time. Thank you for everything, and just contact me if you run into any problems. NSR77 TC 16:27, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
- Great. Thanks again for everything. I look forward to speaking with you in the future. Regards, NSR77 TC 18:34, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

Hi, you should place the following code in your template to move the image left so it dosen't overlap.

RBot on WP:SUBST
[edit]Should RBot be listed at WP:SUBST? (It isn't at the moment.) Silly rabbit 09:33, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
- Originally I didn't put it because the bots listed were the ones that used to that page. My bot doesn't use the templates on those page to run. However, I made an "other substitution bots" bullet and put my bot. --(Review Me) R ParlateContribs@ (Let's Go Yankees!) 15:12, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
u2 wikiproject
[edit]sorry i didnt contact you, you shold have a notice that says to contact you first. you said we only have 8 people but i knew more would join today, we now have 16 and more will still join in the comming hours/days. please reconsider the delivery. - Most projects don't deliver newsletters right after they start up. I would wait a few more days. By then, you'll definitely have over 20 members, and I'd be happy to deliver it. (You'll probably hit 20 today). --(Review Me) R ParlateContribs@ (Let's Go Yankees!) 14:43, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
- i put it out only after a few days to try to recruit more people and let them know what the project is all about. you can delivery the 2nd newsletter in a month or so when it is out. Smithcool
- there is no opt-out list, it just says on the end of it to contact the publishers to opt-out and subst it. thanks. how long will it take to set up and deliver? Smithcool 20:09, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
- everything is grand, there will prob be an out-out list after it is delivered. if you can delivery it by to night i would be grateful but if not tomorrow. Smithcool 08:54, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

You're forgetting that There is no cabal. ;-) —« ANIMUM » 15:33, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
Thanks :)
[edit]Yep, on the 21st, but Sharon was away, so... thanks for the wishes, mate! By the way, I hope you don't mind that I borrowed from your userpage to make Evilclown93's... he seemed to indicate that he liked yours on his RfA :) Cheers! Riana (talk) 01:26, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
- Here! Yeah, I think he liked the blues, so I tried to incorporate that into his page a little :) Riana (talk) 01:34, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

Hi - I see you've changed this page to a redirect to Template:Uw-delete1, and the same for the second level templates. Was this as a result of discussion anywhere? Personally I think they should be kept as separate templates, as the delete1 tag is not specific enough, but if the removal is as a result of concensus I'll live with it. – Tivedshambo (talk) 05:27, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
- First of all, they were no longer listed on WP:UTM, for some reason, which probably mean there waa already consensus somewhere a long time ago, but they forgot to redirect the templates. Here, I asked why, and if they were needed. Two other people quickly agreed, so I redirected them. Also, you can be specific with any uw- template by using {{subst:uw-delete1|ARTICLENAME|Please don't remove maintenance tags}}. --(Review Me) R ParlateContribs@ (Let's Go Yankees!) 14:42, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
Something for you to think about...

IRC cloak request
[edit]I am R_enwiki on freenode and I would like the cloak wikipedia/R. Thanks. --(Review Me) R ParlateContribs@ (Let's Go Yankees!) 21:22, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
RE:Unicode
[edit]I converted to unicode because it is generally better to do so. Either way, if the user copied <tt><nowiki>{{subst:usurpation request}} ~~~~ </nowiki></tt> (as seen in the edit window of the previous page version), it would do the same amount of good (i.e. nothing). —« ANIMUM » 23:12, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
Unanswered questions
[edit]Hello R, I would like to thank you for the help you gave me when I placed the {{helpme}} template but I believe you have not fully answered my question...
What "...of the day" things, such as the "picture of the day", are there and if I have an idea for one, where can I suggest it?
When you said "If it's something for users to put on their userpages (such as MOTD and TOTD" it doesn't say what I should do if it is for userpages. I would appreiciate it if you reply to me and restate your what you meant or point out what I've have missed out when I read your post. Thank you for your time. Sunny910910 03:41, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
- R, I think this a reference to Wikipedia:Picture of the day, not the main page one. From the "Guidelines" section of that page: "Featured images are currently selected in the order they were promoted." So it doesn't seem that there is a way for uses to suggest an image - it just works its way though every featured image... WjBscribe 03:47, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
Single Letter Group
[edit]It's sounding very enticing to change my name to "User:T" right now. Think I'm worthy of being in the club if I do so? FireSpike 04:09, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
Speedy deletion of templates
[edit]Please remember to be very careful when nominating templates for speedy deletion. For one thing, the circumstances under which a template can be speedy deleted are very very particular. More importantly, if you fail to use noinclude properly, nominating a template for speedy deletion ends up completely messing up CAT:CSD because any article where the template is transcluded seems to also be nominated for speedy. Pascal.Tesson 02:14, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the warning about the noincludes. And that just reminded my to ask AzaToth why TW doesn't already add noincludes :). Thanks Pascal. --(Review Me) R ParlateContribs@ (Let's Go Yankees!) 02:22, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
- You're very welcome. Now that I think about it, I think a pretty sound principle to follow is: don't nominate templates for speedy (well unless it's really urgent, a "Hitler fans userbox" or something). Send them to TfD or contact an admin who can delete on the spot. Cheers, Pascal.Tesson 02:27, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
Wikiproject Puerto Rico Newsletter Delivery
[edit]Hello, R. I'm currently the man kid in charge of the Newsletter for Wikiproject Puerto Rico, and I'm interested in having your bot deliver the newsletter to the project participants. It will be delivered on the last day of every month, and it is substed. It can be found here and the list of participants can be found here. There's not a lot of participants, but it's easier to have a bot deliver it than for me to deliver it manually. Feel free to deny my request, as I'm sure R Delivery Bot is very busy. Happy editing! Yours sincerely, Eddie 17:47, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
- Looks great. Thanks! Yours sincerely, Eddie 18:40, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
Hello. I've changed something in the instructions. Please remember to use {{subst:Wikipedia:WikiProject Puerto Rico/Newsletter/MONTH YEAR|{{PAGENAME}}}} instead of {{subst:Wikipedia:WikiProject Puerto Rico/Newsletter/MONTH YEAR}}. Thank you. Yours sincerely, Eddie 20:58, 23 June 2007 (UTC)- Sorry. Eddie 21:00, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
- Just a reminder; it's the last of the month. Happy editing! Yours sincerely, Eddie 17:48, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
