Deletion votes

[edit]

Not that I'm trying to swing your vote (no, really, I'm not :) ), but I've noticed you make the point at least twice in deletion votes, that since you're new, your vote shouldn't count. Don't let that be your attitude. One of Wikipedia's foremost rules is Wikipedia: Be Bold. If your argument or position is unreasonable, then you'll likely be called up on it, but don't assume because you're new your vote doesn't count. I've only been editing for a few months, and I've created articles, moved them, nominated for deletion, uploaded images, reverted vandalism, deleted non-sensical sections. Naturally I made some mistakes but the WP community accepts that these happen, and generally moves on without another word.

Oh, and most people respond on the talk page of the user who sent them the message. Koot may not be watching your talk page so might not have seen your above response, but if you had posted it on his talk page, he would have gotten an alert box saying, "you have new messages." Some experienced members do respond on their own pages, but the majority doesn't. I tend to respond on others talk pages, then copy and paste my own responses to my page in italics after a while, so I can go back, check, and still realise what the conversation's about. :) - Hayter 13:33, 23 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Baseball on Wikicities

[edit]

Hello RuudVisser, Googie Man here and I want to ask you something as a fellow baseball fan on Wikipedia. Jimbo and Angela have made a new webstie called Wikicities. This link in particular will take you to the baseball Wikicity. As you'll see it's similar to Wikipedia, but my hope is this will allow baseball fans to do more and different things, like reporting on games, in depth statistics, create mulitple pages for pictures, and whatever else baseball fans care to create. You've done great work on Wikipedia and I was hoping you could help get this baseball Wikicity off the ground. Please let me if you're interested. Thanks! VWN en WCN

[edit]

Beste RuudVisser,

Help requested at Emancipation

[edit]

We are having troubles with a somewhat eccentric editor (User:FredrickS) at the Emancipation disambiguation page. Briefly, he is insisting on a link there to proportional representation, on the theory that since emancipation can be political, and (in his view) proportional representation provides the greatest amount of this emancipation, the link is of obvious necessity, complete with a mini-essay! A number of editors have been unsuccessful in pointing out the standard format of disambiguation pages (MOS:DAB), the lack of any common usage of "emancipation" as a necessary synonym for "proportional representation", and the WP:NOR nature of his reasoning. I'm trying to enlist a few more editors to the page, and chose you somewhat randomly from the list of Wikipedians in the Netherlands (he is originally from there, and seems to feel "North American" editors are lacking a proper grasp of things). If you would be willing to stop by, read the Talk page, and offer any comments, it might be helpful. Thanks - David Oberst 21:17, 13 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Ruud Visser,
I will communicate with you in English, so others can read this as well. Thank you for your reply. I discovered that the Dutch/European version of Emancipation is not understood by my fellow Americans and Canadians. Your remark that the "easiest connection between emancipation and PR I can think of, is an article on political emancipation" seems to fall on deaf ears. I cannot even get the word 'politics' on this page because they consider it an opinion. For me (and at least the Dutch and German dictionary), emancipation is a political word. Just follow the word Suffragettes — which is also my entry — it got pushed and shoved around (and I don't mind to bump heads, as long as both sides learn from the experience), and it shows how uncomfortable North-Americans are with emanciaption in a political context. I will be making a new category this time, for both suffragettes and marxism (for which I found an incredible amount of entries).
As an extra note, foreign languages should be allowed to be included for Disambiguity pages on Wikipedia when we are talking about 'globalizing' languages. Many European articles are translated into English, for instance, and political emancipation gets translated straight into English, as is. When the disambiguity page does not refer to the option that emancipation can be known in a political context then that page is not complete?
Thanks FredrickS 15:59, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your help, Ruud (bedankt!). We got a tiny step further. (If you want I don't mind if you delete this segment after you read this) FredrickS 22:01, 17 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Template:End NFL SBS

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Template:End NFL SBS requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. AfD nomination of Moquette

[edit]

An editor has nominated Moquette, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Moquette and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 22:59, 13 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You maybe interested in the Article Rescue Squadron

[edit]
Hello, RuudVisser. Based on the templates on your talk page, I would like you to consider joining the Article Rescue Squadron. Rescue Squadron members are focused on rescuing articles for deletion, that might otherwise be lost forever. I think you will find our project matches your vision of Wikipedia. Article Rescue Members are not necessarily inclusionists, all wikipedians are warmly welcome to join.~~~~

Replaceable fair use File:Albino2 (Star Trek).jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Albino2 (Star Trek).jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 14:07, 17 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
