AfC Reviews
[edit]Please stop reviewing AfC articles until you totally understand the entire procedure, which took me about 2 weeks. I can not fix them fast enough. -- :- ) Don 00:08, 25 September 2012 (UTC)
- Sorry...what did I do wrong, for future reference? RunnerOnIce (talk) 00:38, 25 September 2012 (UTC)
- It's okay. I just wanted you to stop for now. It takes sometime to understand all the nuisances of AfC. I just found that some very experienced users have done the same thing as you. The helper script is undergoing a major revamp, and some people have been manually reviewing and making the same mistakes. I have just redone the instructions for declining an article. They were confusing and ambiguous IMHO, so I can understand what has been happening.
- I am assuming that you have been manually reviewing, or are you using the helper script in gadgets or AFCH? Thanks for your patience. -- :- ) Don 00:46, 25 September 2012 (UTC)
- I've been doing it manually. Just to be sure, the problem was with the way I was using the physical code, not the reviews themselves? I'll stop either way, but just want to make sure I know where I went wrong. :-) RunnerOnIce (talk) 00:49, 25 September 2012 (UTC)
- I was trying to help get rid of the overload by dealing with the obvious good/bad submissions. Guess I sorta screwed it up... RunnerOnIce (talk) 00:51, 25 September 2012 (UTC)
We all mess up a little from time to time. Nothing you did was serious at all, I just wanted to limit the fix-up. I fixed up the Reviewer Intstructions at AFC, you may want to have a re-read.
I believe your decisions were correct, no problem there. Some of the articles in AfC are really a mess to begin with. Multiple copies of articles and templates. Multiple copies of articles in AfC itself. Let me see if I can cover the problems I see so far.
- Do not review articles that are not in WT:Articles for creation. It can be done, but takes a lot more work to do it correctly. And, there may already be an article with the same name in AfC, etc., etc. Just don't do it, it can create many unintended consequences.
- Edit the existing submission template with parameters 2 and 3 blank in the article, do not copy a new one or copy the existing one. You can move the existing templates around and delete multiple blank submissions, but keep the latest blank submission template and any declines.
- Don't forget to inform the editor of the decline. Cut the name of the article, then click on the link in the decline template that says "Inform author". This will take you to the editor's page and pre-load it with the editor decline template. There will be a blank parameter in the template. Paste the article name in there, and click save.
I strongly suggest that you go to My Preferences in the upper right corner of any screen(normally) and under the Gadgets tab and in the Editing category, check "Yet Another AFC Helper Script: easily review Articles for creation submissions and redirect requests". It is a Java script which will automatically appear in your top tabs when you are looking at an AfC article. It make reviewing very simple.
I will cover the ones you've already done. Try another couple of reviews either manually or with the script and give me a TB. Email me anytime or ping me on ICR on AfC channel. Thanks for your help. We really need it. -- :- ) Don 01:16, 25 September 2012 (UTC)
- All fixed up I think, RunnerOnIce. You did the acceptance of Jason Mellor perfectly. Not many people remember to do all the items. Congrats. Don't be discouraged. The Wiki is a complicated place. We are happy to have your help, maybe best to just take it slow at the beginning. Your article looks pretty good, should not be a problem getting it accepted. -- :- ) Don 02:47, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

Snowysusan (talk) 07:29, 25 September 2012 (UTC)Way to go. B-Class -- :- ) Don 14:47, 25 September 2012 (UTC)
- Aww, thanks, Don! And thanks for all of your advice above--I'm working on fixing up the Ars Nova page first (including linking all of the other relevant pages back to it), but when I'm done, will look around and practice a bit with reviewing. Also, I enabled the shortcuts like you suggested. :-) RunnerOnIce (talk) 14:51, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!
[edit]The Original Barnstar | |
Hey RunnerOnlce, your quality contribution and hard work is very much appreciated by us tired reviewers. It was a pleasure to accept your article. Keep up the good work! Snowysusan (talk) 21:57, 25 September 2012 (UTC) |
Letting you know, so you don't freak out. I nominated your article. -- :- ) Don 02:16, 26 September 2012 (UTC)
- Crap, I screwed up. See, I do it also.
- Thanks so much for the barn star, but I jumped on you pretty hard, I thought I should make it up to you. :-p
- But...the worst part is, DYK requires 1500 words. I counted 883 with titles and TOC. Two choices, write really quick, or wait for next time. Terrible sorry, I jumped the gun.
-- :- ) Don 02:29, 26 September 2012 (UTC)
- It's ok; you tried. I'll increase the word count over time, but I don't know if I'll be able to nearly double it in time for this one. :-( But I do appreciate your vote of confidence either way. And re you jumping on me earlier--hey, I had been an editor for less than a week and was already judging other peoples' articles, and was screwing up the code when doing so. All of the feedback you gave me was incredibly constructive, and even though the DYK nomination was what made me give you the barnstar, as far as I'm concerned, you deserved it before then. RunnerOnIce (talk) 02:39, 26 September 2012 (UTC)
For what it is worth, it's was nominated in time. You probably have some time to massage it. I think I dinked around with my first article for a month or so after nomination before it was finally approved for DYK. -- :- ) Don

Disambiguation link notification for September 26
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Ars Nova (theater), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Nick Jones (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

[edit]Hi. I've nominated Ars Nova (theater), an article you worked on, for consideration to appear on the Main Page as part of Wikipedia:Did you know. You can see the hook for the article here, where you can improve it if you see fit. :- ) Don 07:30, 1 October 2012 (UTC)
- I thought the article had to be 1500 words for this... RunnerOnIce (talk)
- They have not gotten that far yet. I see you have added a bit. No pressure, unless you don't like rejection, I can withdraw it. -- :- ) Don 15:46, 1 October 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks...I'm going to be adding more to it--trouble is finding more citeable info. RunnerOnIce (talk) 15:51, 1 October 2012 (UTC)

DYK for Ars Nova (theater)
[edit]On 9 October 2012, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Ars Nova (theater), which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that in the "drinking and hacking" scene in The Social Network, Jesse Eisenberg, as Mark Zuckerberg, can be seen wearing an Ars Nova T-shirt which originally belonged to Eisenberg himself? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Ars Nova (theater). You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Bounce
[edit]Where u been,
Tied your email from blog, but bounced. Did not want to mess up your blog with my ramblings. -- :- ) Don 18:12, 22 October 2012 (UTC)
- Sent you a message. Sure you were spelling the email correctly? Also, I've been super busy--the Times, Post, Time Out NY, Flavorpill, and a bunch of others reviewed our new show last week, and since then haven't had time to do anything other than work with the show directly. :-( We sold out the entire run in about two days. RunnerOnIce (talk) 18:23, 22 October 2012 (UTC)
- No, copied the bloody period at the end of it. Cool about sell out. Bad about work. -- :- ) Don 18:51, 22 October 2012 (UTC)
