This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Quazi Golam Dastgir, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://www.dastgir.net. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. Speedy deletion of Quazi Golam Dastgir

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Quazi Golam Dastgir requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must include on the external site the statement "I, (name), am the author of this article, (article name), and I release its content under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 and later." You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Your submission at Articles for creation

[edit]

I noticed your submission in Articles for creation, Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Quazi Golam Dastgir. Thanks! It will be reviewed by a volunteer soon.

Before it can be added to Wikipedia, your submission should have references. All articles on Wikipedia should have inline, numbered references after facts, showing the 'reliable source' (a newspaper, book, etc.) where the information can be checked, so that all information is verifiable.

Here's a video tutorial - hit play, then right-click for "full screen".

Here's an example of how to add references:

Chzz is 98 years old.<ref> "The book of Chzz", Aardvark Books, 2009. </ref>

He likes tea.<ref> Smith, John. "[http://foonews.com/Article42 Interview with Chzz]", Foo News, 1 April 2010. Retrieved 2011-05-22. </ref>

== References ==

{{reflist}}

That makes the references automatically display as small numbers[1] which will link to the details in the section titled == References == at the end. You can see that example in action here.

Please add references to your submission, which will be reviewed as soon as possible. See also, Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners. If you need any help, just put {{helpme}} at the end of this page, followed by a question or get into our live help chat chanel at #wikipedia-en-help connect.

Repeatedly restoring your preferred version of an article

[edit]

I see that, in the only article to which you have contributed to any significant extent, you have particular views as to how the article should be written, and you have repeatedly returned to the article and restored its content, in whole or in part, to something closer to how it was the last time you edited it. Continually doing that, in an attempt to give your personal preferences priority over the opinions of others, is considered unhelpful. Instead, if you feel there are good reasons why your preferred version is better, then explain what those reasons are to the other editors concerned, and be prepared to discuss the issues involved, with a view to trying to reach agreement. Further information relating to this situation is provided in the policies Wikipedia:Edit warring and Wikipedia:Ownership of content, which you should read before doing any more editing of the article, because if you continue in the same way there's a danger that you may be blocked from editing by an administrator. JBW (talk) 23:44, 9 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sadly, it appears to that it is you who is fixated on a particular version of this article. Without being a subject matter expert, you seem to have decided on what you deem is relevant and substantiated, and what you deem is irrelevant and unsubstantiated. For example, despite clear references showing the general was promoted in 1975 to Major General (the highest rank possible in the Bangladesh Army in the first half of the 1970s) and served as the Director General of Bangladesh Rifles (currently the Border Guards Bangladesh), you stop with the rank of Brigadier and deleted all references to the Major General promotion. Even a very basic bio, like the one quoted in this 1978 Wikileaks cable (which cannot be used as reference), has the Major General promotion and BDR appointment: https://wikileaks.org/plusd/cables/1978DACCA02580_d.html
The fact of the promotion does not delve into the history that there were only two other Major Generals in the Bangladesh Army at that time, and both went on to become Presidents of Bangladesh after staging coups and subsequently promoting themselves to Lieutenant Generals before retirement. The additional context of the general’s promotion was that this was the first time a Bangladesh Army formation commander held two-star rank, paving the way for eventually upgrading the ranks of all formation commanders and the DG BDR to Major General, a custom that continues till now. Details in Bengali of “Operation Dragon Drive” is textbook reading for infantry officers in the Bangladesh Army.
These are well documented in Colonel Shafaat Jamil’s Bengali book “Ekatturer Muktijuddho, Roktatkto Modhho August, O Shorojontromoy November” (https://archive.org/details/Col-Shafaat-Jamil-book), Major Hafiz Uddin Ahmed’s Bengali book “Shoinik Jeebon: Gourober Ekattor, Roktatkco Pochattor.” (https://www.rokomari.com/book/author/1620/major-rtd-hafiz-uddin-ahmed-bir-bikaram), Major General Ibrahim’s Bengali book “Shenabahinir Obbhontore Atash Bochor” (http://books.com.bd/13901), and Major General Khalilur Rahman’s three part autobiography in Bengali – in addition to at least 15 other texts over the past five decades including the general’s family details provided by Pakistani author Agha Ameen’s “Remembering Major General Quazi Golam Dastageer” and Pakistan Army Lieutenant General Lehrasab Khan’s 2022 memoirs under the “Revisiting Dhaka” section. The general’s work as a battalion commander is mentioned in Major General Khadim Hossain Raja’s “A Stranger in my Own Country.”
This earlier version of the article which you insisted on changing was based on at least 15 textbooks and research papers, many of which is in Bengali. In one of the earliest versions, there were more than 20 online references, which you consciously deleted. The references to the “Maj Gen Quazi Golam Dastgir, KAAO, psc Memorial Bridge Tournament” have been oft-mentioned in Bengali dailies like “The Daily Ittefaq” whenever the tournaments are held.
Unfortunately, there are also some internet sources which are no longer readily available. For example, Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Syed Muazzem Ali wrote an article entitled “A tribute to General Dastgir” in the Bangladesh daily “The Dhaka Courier” in 2008. This is no longer accessible, perhaps due to archiving changes instituted by the newspaper. The quote “an upright officer of the old school” comes from that article which used to be found online here: http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1P3-1659991761.html
Ultimately it is up to you to decide whether you on Wikipedia’s behalf opt to ignore well documented facts, albeit some of it originally in Bengali, and provide your own truncated version of a well-substantiated text. What you do or not do will not alter history. I had hoped you would at least mention the Major General promotion with DG BDR appointment in addition to the four ambassadorships which you kindly left. The hyperlinked references are in your deleted versions, if you had checked them. FYI the original text was based on a biography penned by the General’s aid-de-camp Major Syed Mahmud Ali, who was the Bengali New Director of the BBC. I do not think there is an online link to Major Ali’s text, which was part of a larger book which might still be available but I no longer recall the title after your version revisions deleted the earlier hyperlink to the work.
Wikipedia is an outstanding source to get a summary of the life accomplishments and contributions of distinguished individuals like the subject of this article. I feel it is our responsibility as editors to ensure the completeness and correctness of content, not just delete facts arbitrarily without doing some painstaking research. I would encourage you to take another look at the earlier versions and reinstate one of them, instead of using your preferred version of this important article. Thank you for your consideration. Rumman1966 (talk) 14:10, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Somehow you appear to have misread what I wrote, so I shall try to clarify things for you.
You have made a number of statements about what you reckon are my opinions about the content of the article, such as that I am "fixated on a particular version of this article", that I "seem to have decided on what [I] deem is relevant and substantiated, and what [I] deem is irrelevant", and so on. I wonder how you formed an impression as to what content I think should be in the article, since I have never edited the article, and never said anything at all about what content the article should have. You refer to "This earlier version of the article which you insisted on changing", despite the fact that I have never changed the article in any way, and never even suggested that it should be changed in any particular way, let alone "insisted" that it should.
As you will see if you re-read my message, everything I have written on this page is about how you have been handling disagreements with other editors, not about what should be in the article or about the merits or demerits of either your views of the matter or other editors' views.
You have said "I would encourage you to take another look at the earlier versions and reinstate one of them, instead of using your preferred version of this important article." In fact I do not have a preferred version of the article, and I don't know where you got the idea that I have one: certainly not from anything I have written on this page.
