Conflict of interest?

[edit]

Hello, Rug Connoisseur. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Be cautious about deletion discussions. Everyone is welcome to provide information about independent sources in deletion discussions, but avoid advocating for deletion of articles about your competitors.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. --Ronz (talk) 20:42, 15 June 2012 (UTC) [reply]

Proposed deletion of Claremont Rug Company

[edit]

The article Claremont Rug Company has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No indication of WP:notability. The sources given do not appear to actually mention the company. Smacks of Spam.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. noq (talk) 23:29, 3 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

User:Rug Connoisseur/sandbox, a page you substantially contributed to, has been nominated for deletion. Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:Rug Connoisseur/sandbox and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of User:Rug Connoisseur/sandbox during the discussion but should not remove the miscellany for deletion template from the top of the page; such a removal will not end the deletion discussion. Thank you. Safiel (talk) 20:09, 5 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Claremont Rug Company, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Hello Ronz,

When updating the Bakshaish page I added in information for Claremont Rug Company's Rug Type Guide pages which provides scholarly information on the origin, colors, design, and rich history of Antique Persian Bakshaish Rugs. My intention was not to advertise or promote Claremont Rug Company but to give reference to where the written information came from. In the future, I will not add written content to the Bakshaish page from our website. My intention was to provide more educational information about this type of rug to enhance the user experience when searching through Wikipedia for information about Bakshaish rugs and then reference the source not to promote our website. Thank you, Rug Connoisseur 09/20/17Rug Connoisseur (talk) 17:56, 21 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for responding. If you feel that information from the Claremont Rug Company's website would be useful as reference material, then we can work to establish that it is scholarly information as you say. I'm happy to help with this. In the meantime, there's no problem if you just make proposals on article talk pages about using such references.
In case you haven't noticed the discussions: It's pretty clear that Claremont Rug Company has hired people to improve the company's image on Wikipedia. From what I've seen, none of the accounts that those people have used, including your own, have made proper disclosures. While I understand how regular employees of Claremont Rug Company may not have realized what time it takes to learn how to work withing Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, any outside public relations/marketing/branding/etc service providers should know better. --Ronz (talk) 17:42, 22 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to write an article about your employer, you need to do these things:

  • First, see WP:PAID and follow the instructions to make a paid editing disclosure on your user page. This is a legal obligation on your part, described in Wikimedia:Terms of Use, to which you entered into a binding agreement to abide by when you created this account here.
  • Create an article in draft space, such as Draft:Claremont Rug Company. Do not create the article in main space.
  • When you are satisfied that the article is written neutrally (complies with WP:NPOV) and contains references to significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the company (see WP:CORP or WP:Golden rule for a brief overview), then submit it for review via Wikipedia:Articles for creation. That is really the only venue that an editor with a conflict of interest, like yourself, can use to get an article published here.

I hope that helps. ~Anachronist (talk) 16:54, 25 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
