While I'm delighted to see another article on a forgotten Milwaukee reformer, the 19th-century materials you borrowed from have a coy and playful tone quite unsuitable for an encyclopedia article. I would suggest you join me in turning the cuteness into straightforward prose. Orange Mike | Talk 15:38, 1 July 2022 (UTC)

Thank you
Rosie, Thank you for the sweet comment on my talk page. I have always felt that connection with you too. Our interactions were few but it isn't necessarily the words that are written that speak the most. Sometimes it's the unwritten that means so much more. I have always felt your depth. It has inspired and awed me. You are such a remarkable person and a beautiful woman. I have looked up to you from the moment I joined WiR. I am not an amazing writer. I keep journals full of grammatical errors detailing my life experiences, sometimes as they happened or shortly after. I paint, well enough for myself and it's something I can do with my daughter that gives her a love for colors. I play music, that my ears enjoy but the biggest enjoyment is seeing my family dance to the songs I play. I do sing, my voice is something I have become accustomed to and may make others cringe at times. My point is that the impact we have on others is often times unspoken. You never had to speak much. I hear you all the time. So when you do speak it has that much more impact. I am convinced you are one reason I am still alive. Your love for me. Your compassion and empathy. Your words spoken and unspoken, all I have heard. And it is beautiful. I will always cherish you. --ARoseWolf 15:01, 25 July 2022 (UTC)
- ARoseWolf, I love how we understand each other. Did I ever mention to you that I, too, paint? Or, more precisely, I used to paint and want to get back at it, just haven't nudged myself to do so. I see images, when I'm out and about, or in a magazine, or whatever, and I think to myself, I want to paint something like that... not "that" in its exact form, but something abstractly like that. Anyway, I want you to know that even if you're not "on" Wikipedia, I'll still think about you, and if you return, even if for a short visit, please ping me. All the best to you, wherever your path may take you... --Rosiestep (talk) 18:05, 25 July 2022 (UTC)

today: birthday music for a friend, after hiking in the Swiss Alps and a funeral with flowers on a bench and a Rilke poem --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:08, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Gerda. Missed you! I see you've been busy. Hoping that the hike in the Swiss Alps was awesome for you. Funeral with flowers on a bench... did you know that I take photos of benches everywhere I go? I must have 100s of them, which I mean to upload to WikiCommons just never get around to it. Listened to some Rilke poetry on Youtube as I wasn't familiar with his work; lovely. Thanks for sharing; really do appreciate and enjoy it. I always learn something. Without purposeful intention, I worked on temperance-related articles this month. There were women's biogs and a couple of men, a U.S. and an Irish union, a French society, a Chicago temple, New Hampshire seminary, and a Chilean college. I listened to a lot of music this month at various local outdoor venues (my partner plays trumpet). Very enjoyable. Occasionally sat through rehearsals, enjoying the grass under my feet, while finishing Andy Weir's book, Project Hail Mary (music notes are in the storyline!). --Rosiestep (talk) 08:55, 29 July 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you for this detailed insight in your life, - lovely! Rilke - I'm going through the ordeal of a FAR for Duino Elegies, - a first for me, all help welcome. Reading will come again when done ... - I have a dear friend - on my side singing alto for decades in the Boni-Chor (church pictured on top in the talk page link) - who also takes photos of benches! - Exquisite cat! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:11, 29 July 2022 (UTC)

Need for incentives for Women in Red
Hi Rosie. I realize you are tied up with all kinds of administrative tasks and preparations for Wikimania but I thought it would be useful to sound you out on how we can revive some of the old enthusiasm for Women in Red. As you have probably noticed, over the past year our metrics have been falling steadily from 2,867 new biographies in July 2021 to some 1,300 in July 2022. For the past month, the monthly percentage of women's biographies has remained steady at 19.30%. Victuallers has been doing his best to rally the troops but although there has been increased interest in Women in Red on the social media and indeed more views of our project page, this has not been reflected in any real progress on article creation. Over recent months, for some reason there seems to have been more interest in #1day1woman than in the other priorities we have selected for month-by-month attention. For this reason, I have been wondering whether a contest based specifically on this priority might not encourage wider participation. I was thinking in terms of an open-ended competition based on the maximum number of consecutive days individual editors (including new members of the project) could contribute one woman a day. In collaboration with WomenArtistUpdates and perhaps Megalibrarygirl who was behind the original concept, we could arrange awards for 5, 10, 20 and 30 days and even keep the contest running for more than one month for those who survive that long. I would nevertheless like to benefit from your reactions and take account of any other ways in which you think we could revive enthusiasm. It seems to me we also need to provide more incentives to those able to attract more members of our project but let's take one thing at a time. So as not to sound too negative about all this, I should point out that partly as a result of Women in Green, we have had 32 new GAs on women and their works in June and 16 in July. We've also been doing well with DYKs with 71 in July, the highest number since August 2021. I look forward to any reactions you might have before making any suggestions on our Ideas pages or on our WiR talk page but I do feel we need to take some form of effective action.--Ipigott (talk) 15:52, 5 August 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Ian. Thank you for your thoughtful proposal. I've noticed the same regarding metrics. I really like the idea of a #1day1woman contest with barnstar awards for 5, 10, 20 and 30 days. But I'd suggest not stopping there; let's make a grand-prize goal of 100, as a collaboration with m:100wikidays. As you can see on that page, I participated in 100wikidays twice and I can tell you, it takes quite the effort. My first start was at Wikimania 2016, when I was seated across the table from the 100wikidays founder and decided to go for it just based on her enthusiasam. I participated again a few years later, focused on uploading images rather than writing articles. Honestly, I actually thought about participating again in 100wikidays (article creation) starting this Thursday, the first day of Wikimania 2022, but I haven't made a solid commitment yet, nor have I thought about focusing on women's biographies. But now I will give it more thought! I think it would be great if you suggest such a contest on the WiR talkpage and see what people think. P.S. If Women in Red had a page on Meta, I'd suggest we facilitate the contest there and allow editors to participate in any language Wikipedia. ;) --Rosiestep (talk) 17:13, 5 August 2022 (UTC)
- I was sure I could rely on you for some constructive ideas, Rosie. I distinctly remember your former involvement in #1day1women (as well as in earlier versions of Women Writers) and am happy to see you share future opportunities. I'll wait a day or two to see if there are any further reactions here but will then post suggestions on the other sites. And while I'm here, I would like to share with you some other good news. You may remember that I was involved with GLAM-related EU research projects in the late 1990s and early 2000s when I also gained a reputation for supporting women participants. For the first time since I have been active on Wikipedia since around 2006, today I had the pleasure of welcoming someone who actually remembers me, User talk:Nferranf, a Spanish girl who was in one of my projects back in 2003 or so and who is now involved at the University of Barcelona in research on gender studies. It's a small world and it's good to see there is an element of continuity. At the very least, some of my background credentials can at least be confirmed.--Ipigott (talk) 18:20, 5 August 2022 (UTC)
- Ipigott, I don't think there's anyone around who would doubt your credibility as you are such a fantastic community organizer and contributor on Wikipedia. I am so happy to learn that someone from "way back when" in your professional life is now a Wikipedia editor -bravo to that(!)- especially as she's a gender studies researcher. Thank you for all you do around here including welcoming Nferranf. --Rosiestep (talk) 18:34, 5 August 2022 (UTC)
- Ipigott, Rosiestep, I wonder if many of our members are working on larger projects at the moment. It's possible people are involved in overarching articles like the kind I've been working on with women's suffrage or what SusunW does with working on improving articles. Working on stuff like that affects numbers, too. Megalibrarygirl (talk) 23:11, 5 August 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks, Megalibrarygirl. That makes sense. For example, I've been creating temperance movement articles for a few weeks and they aren't all women's biographies. --Rosiestep (talk) 03:36, 6 August 2022 (UTC)
- Yes, Sue, the efforts you and Susun are making are of course appreciated and I have mentioned the quality improvements in GAs and DYKs. Furthermore, assessment stats for the popular WikiProject Women Writers show that only a quarter of articles are stubs (even less for Women Scientists and Women's History) whereas over 50% of articles on the EN wiki are stubs, including biographies. Part of the reduction in new women's biographies can certainly be assigned to the general fall in article creation. From the table in Wikipedia:Size of Wikipedia, it can be seen that for the year up to 1 January 2016, 363,000 new articles were created in the EN wiki compared to only 211,700 for 2021. Nevertheless, it is the fall in the increase of female vs male biographies which is most concerning. Our overall aim is to ensure a continuing increase in the proportion of female biographies as listed in Wikidata. At the moment, progress is minimal. I believe that if we can succeed in sensitizing editors to this situation, we can start to encourage more attention to article creation, possibly supported by a #1day1woman type contest. But I'm open to further comments and suggestions.--Ipigott (talk) 06:24, 6 August 2022 (UTC)
- It's probably worth remembering, though, that it gets harder to make progress as progress is made, and that, like a Red Queen's race, you have to run very hard just to avoid going backwards. (Also, have a Festival I'm a small part of, but expect me back the other side of it) Adam Cuerden (talk)Has about 8% of all FPs 09:31, 6 August 2022 (UTC)
- I think we all get that my focus is on quality rather than quantity, but that said, I still try to focus on article creation. The thing for me is I follow where the article leads, so for example, last month, when working on Eunice Foote (for our climate change and WIG's science editathon), I discovered Elizabeth Wagner Reed, who recovered Foote and 22 other women scientists, then I worked through those to make sure that all but 1, whose name was too common to differentiate sources, had articles. Beyond Foote, none of the others fit our categories, except 1day1woman, so it becomes the catchall. Not that I am uninterested in the monthly categories, just the way it pans out, because of the way I let the article lead me to the next woman. Recruiting new writers is always a problem. Not just because there is a learning curve to writing on here, but because behaviors make it difficult and real life has demands. It seems to me that the way to make real progress in recruiting is through academics. If we can convince them that it's a worthwhile project (and teach them that writing on here is the opposite of what they do in their jobs), they have access to tons of students who could become contributors. SusunW (talk) 14:14, 6 August 2022 (UTC)
- That's a great suggestion, SusunW, but how do we find them and encourage them to become involved? Perhaps we need support from some of those already involved in gender studies and the like to spread the word. Is there a network where we could encourage someone to state our case? Or could you put together something yourself which we could get Victuallers or others to include on the social networks?--Ipigott (talk) 15:35, 6 August 2022 (UTC)
- Well I do it by telling them about what we do. I often write academics for access to source materials. I tell them about the project and the women usually respond with sourcing and information. I have never received any shared information from any male academic I have written to, and only once even had a reply from a male academic, which basically came across as "thanks for contacting me, I'm not interested in helping you, because this is my topic". If they want to know how they can get involved, I refer them to Rosie. Perhaps she can tell you how she hooks them into Wiki-edu. Literally, it is just a matter of asking, IMO. SusunW (talk) 16:06, 6 August 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks, SusunW for referring them to me. Typically, we schedule a call where we talk about the lack of women's representation on Wikipedia. When they ask about editing training and support, I tell them about WikiEdu, and give them a point of contact. The WikiEdu teaching modules are best-suited for this. The professor commonly schedules me as a guest speaker halfway into their course to focus on explaining the reader+contributor+content gender gaps, society's role in Wikipedia's gaps, Women in Red, etc.; even with ~1.5 hours for my part, it's barely enough time when also including students' questions. I do enjoy it, though, very much. --Rosiestep (talk) 16:48, 6 August 2022 (UTC)

SusunW, I was thinking a bit about what you wrote, "I let the article lead me to the next woman"
. What about a future WiR event that encourages editors to add more "breadcrumbs" within articles: redlinking women's names that aren't already redlinked in existing articles? While this would not be a "typical" WiR event as it doesn't directly encourge the creation of a new article, it might be interesting to try it as a long-term campaign to see if, eventually, some redlinks become blue. What the editor would indicate on the editathon page would be that on article Foo, they added redlinks for Woman1, Woman2, and Woman3. We already have hundreds of "redlists", but this would be a different way of informing people that there's a content gap. --Rosiestep (talk) 16:57, 6 August 2022 (UTC)
- Or we could do a links-in-the-chain, write one article which turns up a redlink, which is then written and turns up another, etc., to see how long a chain can be made. That might be really interesting. SusunW (talk) 17:05, 6 August 2022 (UTC)
- I'm really sorry to hear, SusunW, that your male contacts have been so difficult. While WikiEdu is great for the Unites States, I wonder if there are any similar projects in Europe and the rest of the world. I think it would be useful to put together a set of recommendations on how to encourage academics to provide support. As for redlinks, I've noticed that some editors avoid redlinking women's names, perhaps afraid that they may have to create more articles. This also occurs in lists of award winners and sporting champions where names are often just included in normal black type. I don't know if a WiR editathon devoted solely to this would be effective but I certainly think more redlinked women's names in our articles would help us along. Use of "ill" links to biographies in other languages is also a help if they exist.--Ipigott (talk) 11:02, 7 August 2022 (UTC)
- For clarification, in educational matters, Wiki Education Foundation serves the U.S. and Canada, while the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Department serves the rest of the world. --Rosiestep (talk) 11:15, 7 August 2022 (UTC)

I know that my main area of expertise is musical instruments, London architecture and transport, but I make a serious point of trying to do one decent amount of work on a women-related article a year, including a bunch of GAs. I've got no idea what I can do next, but I did think that about a week before I read a news item on Caroline Flack and thought "yeah, I can give that a go". Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 20:01, 9 August 2022 (UTC)
- Always great to hear from you, Ritchie333. Cool choice of articles. It gets a LOT of page views, especially compared to the women's biographies I work on. --Rosiestep (talk) 21:32, 9 August 2022 (UTC)

pics and thoughts on 13 August - enjoy vacation -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:13, 13 August 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Gerda, those sunflowers put a big smile on my face. They look so beautiful in the wild. Years ago, someone left a photo on my talkpage of a cat by a porch with flowers close by, including snowflowers. Wish I had kept track of it. Congrats on the Haroun and the Sea of Stories DYK! Kismet on timing given the stabbing incident of SR (which occurred in the same state I'm visiting now for Wikimania festivities). --Rosiestep (talk) 13:38, 13 August 2022 (UTC)
- That is an old DYK (April 2020) but I got it out while some still debated if we may show the attack on the Main page. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:41, 13 August 2022 (UTC)
- Gerda, quite apropos, IMO. --Rosiestep (talk) 13:49, 13 August 2022 (UTC)
- It's now "on", but I was too tired to comment when I saw it last night, and couldn't believe that there mostly opposes when I woke up. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:40, 13 August 2022 (UTC)
- today: "my" concert of the year (so far) is on the Main page, but not pictured, and I don't understand why - lovely cat in motion! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:05, 15 August 2022 (UTC)
- Gerda, beautiful venue for "your" concert of the year. Did some editor indicate that it would be the first in the set and then it wasn't? Thank you; yes, cute walker; and today, another. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:27, 16 August 2022 (UTC)
- no, the opposite, if you read the nom, - just that I felt the pic was good enough and even showing well in small size, and informative to be presented, and even my most critical reviewer liked it. There's no chance to make the choir (Bach's choir, so to speak) a GA, so I need another "vehicle" (the pictured church had a DYK already). I'll try with the next piece, Mendelssohn. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:27, 16 August 2022 (UTC)
- Gerda, ok, got it. Wishing you good luck with the Mendelssohn. If you give me a link and let me know when you nominate it, I'll take a look. --Rosiestep (talk) 15:27, 18 August 2022 (UTC)
- nice offer, thank you - was out all day, and that article, planned first for 13 August, is still not written, and know nothing about the piece besides that I liked listening ;) - will eventually update images but not now, - it was great but I'm tired --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:55, 18 August 2022 (UTC)
- The last week brought more outstanding concerts and bike tours , - how is your summer? - Mendelssohn begun, but needs to grow. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:39, 21 August 2022 (UTC)
- Gerda, ok, got it. Wishing you good luck with the Mendelssohn. If you give me a link and let me know when you nominate it, I'll take a look. --Rosiestep (talk) 15:27, 18 August 2022 (UTC)
- Gerda, beautiful venue for "your" concert of the year. Did some editor indicate that it would be the first in the set and then it wasn't? Thank you; yes, cute walker; and today, another. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:27, 16 August 2022 (UTC)
- Gerda, quite apropos, IMO. --Rosiestep (talk) 13:49, 13 August 2022 (UTC)
- That is an old DYK (April 2020) but I got it out while some still debated if we may show the attack on the Main page. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:41, 13 August 2022 (UTC)
- Gerda, concerts and bike tours seem like a wonderful way to spend days in August. I was in New York City this month, celebrating Wikimania festivities with old and new wiki friends. In addition to Manhattan, spent time in Brooklyn and Queens, two boroughs that I hadn't explored before. Watched some great sessions, in-person, and, of course, the online ones. Plus lots of walking, looking, and enjoying great food and drink. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:17, 22 August 2022 (UTC)
- returning from another great and also pleasant bike trip: yes! pics to come - you know where - on a train, I read about birthday child Debussy and his Cello Sonata, and found errors, o dear, to fix, and then my usual morning round of thanks and watchlist, - sometime later today, and tomorrow, a summer rehearsal for the Verdi Requiem. - Many good memories of Queens and Brooklyn, including walking across Brooklyn bridge with my dad, a bridge lover, and and overtone concert in the belly of one of its foundations: what a resonance, in my first experience in that kind of singing. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:29, 22 August 2022 (UTC)
- + another great tour on Debussy's 160th birthday --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:46, 22 August 2022 (UTC)
- Gerda, congrats on that Debussy DYK! Enjoyed reading. (P.S. I, too, am a bridge lover.) --Rosiestep (talk) 14:42, 23 August 2022 (UTC)
- today, St. Martinus is pictured on the Main page, where I heard Stardust --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:50, 27 August 2022 (UTC)
- That must have been nice, Gerda Arendt. From St. Martinus, I went down the wiki rabbit hole to Jugendstil, which I found to be equal parts beautiful and fascinating, all the more so as I'll be back in Berlin next month and will be able to keep an eye out for examples of that style. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:55, 27 August 2022 (UTC)
- It was great! - For Jugendstil, the best places are Mathildenhöhe in Darmstadt, a recent World Heritage site, and an exhibition in the Museum Wiesbaden, for interior, complete rooms with furniture and art. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:12, 27 August 2022 (UTC)
- Sad to see that the English article is not up-to-date, - look in German for Nees. Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:15, 27 August 2022 (UTC)

Reigate and the Duxhurst Industrial Farm Colony
Hi @Rosiestep:
Thank you for adding the paragraph on the Duxhurst Industrial Farm Colony to the Reigate page. Unfortunately, although Reigate was the nearest town to Duxhurst at the time of its foundation, it is not actually in Reigate. (The sources that I have been able to check state that it is near Reigate.) In fact, Duxhurst is in the Salfords and Sidlow civil parish and the nearest settlement is Sidlow.
Would you be happy for me to move the paragraph from the Reigate page to the Sidlow page please?
Thanks and best wishes Mertbiol (talk) 15:21, 21 August 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Mertbiol, and thanks for stopping by. Yes, please; I appreciate if you would move it! And thanks for the clarification about its location as I've learned something new. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:17, 22 August 2022 (UTC)
- Hi @Rosiestep:
Thanks very much and I have carried out the move.
Best wishes Mertbiol (talk) 17:34, 22 August 2022 (UTC)
- Hi @Rosiestep:
Discussion at FFD that may interest you
File:FC Barcelona (crest).svg is at Wikipedia:Files for discussion/2022 August 26. The discussion is about WP:NFC#UUI #17 and is a women's soccer team a child of the parent team (in this case the men's team). This file has previously been discussed e.g. Wikipedia:Non-free content review/Archive 69#File:FC Barcelona (crest).svg (in 2015) and there are many other old(ish) discussions about logos in women's sports team articles. In 2022 this interpretation of NFC#UUI looks ever more anachronistic than ever (if indeed it was ever right). Wikipedia:Files for discussion/2019 June 27#File:Arsenal FC.svg was decided the other way. Perhaps now is the time to try and get this properly defined. Nthep (talk) 13:45, 26 August 2022 (UTC)
David Copperfield help
Hi there - I proposed some updates to the David Copperfield article back in February here. Since the Request edits queue seems to be stalled and you’re a member of WP:LAS, I was wondering if you’d be interested in reviewing my proposals? I can’t do it myself because of a COI. Thanks very much. MagicTech1902 (talk) 15:11, 26 August 2022 (UTC)
- Hi MagicTech1902. Thanks for connecting with me but sorry that I can't be of help with this article. I rarely work on BLPs, and mostly then on women... just not my cup of tea. P.S. I just removed my name from that WikiProject as I live elsewhere now. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:36, 27 August 2022 (UTC)
Hi. Have you found a reference for her date of death? I'm having difficulty finding anything reliable. Deb (talk) 08:12, 27 August 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Deb. Yes; Nov 6, 1939 in SF, according to the San Francisco Examiner obit here. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:25, 27 August 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks. Could you add a reference for the death date of Helen Ekin Starrett and any other authors you add to the Year in Literature pages from now on? Deb (talk) 10:38, 28 August 2022 (UTC)
- Sorry to have also missed Starrett's, Deb, but added now (The Oregon Daily Journal obit). I'll keep a closer eye on the referencing, which I thought was spot on, but obvs, imperfect. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:26, 28 August 2022 (UTC)
- That would be much appreciated. Some of these are hard to find given the nature of contemporary sources. (Or at least, I have difficulty finding them. Deb (talk) 14:35, 28 August 2022 (UTC)

Watchful eyes
Such a pretty kitty today. I love those eyes. --ARoseWolf 14:08, 30 August 2022 (UTC)
- ARoseWolf, you are right... such great eyes! I think Miss Parque is hopping around the wiki. Saw her over at your place... ;) Today, we have Miss Varna who has such good posture. ;) --Rosiestep (talk) 15:25, 30 August 2022 (UTC)
- Ha! That's so cute. Reminds me of my Persephone but less indignant than her. She put up with my crazy for so many years...alone. I put up with her disapproval of my wild and free spirited nature. I feel as though I may have scarred her for life, especially my overuse of butterfly wings on her. She's getting lazy and overweight off the fish we feed her now. And she gets spoiled by my nephews. I may have to encourage a local bear to put her in training or perhaps introduce her to the sled team. I wonder what disasters would occur on that adventure. --ARoseWolf 15:47, 30 August 2022 (UTC)
- ARoseWolf, Persephone sounds like quite the cat! But, of course, they all are in their unique ways. My tuxies (sisters) are 15.5 years old. They'd be scared witless if they saw a bear or even a sled team. Dogs go woof! LOL! We have deer on the property and their presence doesn't phase the cats; they just look at them with calmness. Their preferred entertainment includes the wild turkeys, birds of all feathers, butterflies, and the occasional lizards who make their way on the window screens. --Rosiestep (talk) 16:12, 30 August 2022 (UTC)
- She absolutely holds Little Jack, my overactive and exceedingly giddy lead husky, in highest disdain. I was going to retire LJ last year but the replacement lead is taking a little longer to train so I may have to go through another winter. Once he retires he will be inside with me and I think she knows that. She's not too keen on sharing the limited lap space. --ARoseWolf 16:26, 30 August 2022 (UTC)

Cat different coloured eyes
ARoseWolf, he gives me the impression he's from your region. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:04, 1 September 2022 (UTC)
- I simply love the multicolored eyes. We do see a lot more of that, especially in our husky's as they are a specifically mixed breed. It's not all that common in our Malamute's which are purebred. Just in case anyone is interested it's called Heterochromia. Our husky's are used primarily on tight trails or if we need to utilize speed. Our Malamutes are utilized for freight hauls as they are bred for their strength. Both breeds love sledding and take their role serious. I owe my life, a few times, to our teams over the years. Very grateful for our dogs. --ARoseWolf 14:19, 1 September 2022 (UTC)
- ARoseWolf, sounds like you have a tight bond, relying on each other. And, they are beautiful dogs, especially the malamute. I see that "sled dogs have been used in the Arctic for at least 8,000 years". 8,000 years! I learn something new from Wikipedia every day. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:36, 1 September 2022 (UTC)
- I have a very tight bond with my team. Each one of us have our own team and while our trainer initiates the dog's into receiving commands and learning the trails the real fun begins when he works with us and our team in learning our voice commands. The dogs pick up on tones and pitches. It's a deeply personal bonding for me because my entire life has been about wavelengths, tones and pitches of sounds which tell me a story in musical notes and colors. I relate to them in this way. Anytime we introduce a new team member we go out for days and the only sounds these dogs hear are the other dogs, nature around us and the human musher. It's really a beautifully intricate dance. --ARoseWolf 14:58, 1 September 2022 (UTC)
- *Kicks down the talk page door* Y'all talkin' about cats? Here's mine!
- Sorry, somebody on my talk page mentioned your name, Rosiestep. I'll see myself out now. Panini! • 🥪 15:27, 7 September 2022 (UTC)

- Well, hello hello, Panini!. There's plenty of room around here for cuddly cats and talk page door kicker downers. You're very welcome to grab one of those chairs that ARoseWolf has offered up. I take pleasure in picking, posting, and enjoying today's cat of the day. Glad you seem to be so inclined, too. Meow. --Rosiestep (talk) 20:32, 7 September 2022 (UTC)

- I love the coat on the gato from Miranda de Ebro. Such beautiful colors. It looks like its wearing a real coat or a small blanket. Are you getting cold yet, SusunW (lol)? We started this morning at 27°f. We are losing 7.5 minutes of daylight every day. Winter is coming! --ARoseWolf 14:30, 22 September 2022 (UTC)
- LOL ARoseWolf it was 23° this morning here, and supposed to reach 33° by mid day. (LOL C not F, so 73-91°F). Thankfully winter (60s F) won't hit here until December. SusunW (talk) 14:39, 22 September 2022 (UTC)
- Haha! SusunW, you can always pretend it's C instead of F here and come visit me. Wait a little longer and we'll be able to make hot cocoa using an icicle as a stir. --ARoseWolf 14:44, 22 September 2022 (UTC)
- Yeah, right, ARoseWolf. Me and my sundress and sandals pretending that I am not that icicle you are using as a stir stick. Somehow methinks that wouldn't work. SusunW (talk) 15:07, 22 September 2022 (UTC)
- Hey, I have sundresses and sandals too. I usually break them out once we get to 45°, F not C (for those just rolling by). SusunW, I think you are tougher than you let on. Just come up for a couple of winters and before you know it I'll have you mushing through thick snow banks like you always belonged. (lol) --ARoseWolf 15:16, 22 September 2022 (UTC)
- @ARoseWolf and SusunW, certainly a weather change in my community during the 14 days I was away. From heat wave and forest fire warnings to some morning coolness, some dampness, and even leaves starting to change color. That said, it's supposed to be back up to 90F by the weekend, so I'm not packing away my sandals just yet. I'm still dealing with some health and personal issues related to the latest travel, so if you notice me being slow to respond on-wiki, or unresponsive in alternate places where you commonly communicate with me, that's why. --Rosiestep (talk) 15:18, 22 September 2022 (UTC)
- I hope you and things are better sooner rather than later, Rosie. Take care of you. ARoseWolf trust me, I am not. Anything below 75°F and I am uncomfortable and once it hits 60°F, truly miserable and pretty much non-functional. SusunW (talk) 15:24, 22 September 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks, SusunW. Working on it. ;) --Rosiestep (talk) 15:28, 22 September 2022 (UTC)
- Awww, Rosie, you will continuously be in my thoughts until those health and personal issues are, hopefully, whisked away by a stiff north wind. Who knows, if I blow hard enough maybe I can start one coming your way. That or lose consciousness from lack of oxygen. (lol) One Summer in Cali was enough for me. I'm a snow and ice kind of girl. SusunW, okay, so maybe a Summer visit then. Here's to putting the sandals away for Winter and wildflower salads in Summer. I love you ladies so much. --ARoseWolf 15:30, 22 September 2022 (UTC)
- @ARoseWolf and SusunW, every time I see a note from you two, I perk up. You are my people! #wikilove. I like it cold sometimes. I like it hot sometimes. That's the beauty of where I live: four distinct seasons, of about 91 days each. This is where we should meet up for tea. :) --Rosiestep (talk) 15:35, 22 September 2022 (UTC)
- Same same, every time I see y'all names it makes me smile. We have summer for 10 months a year and then probably what y'all would call spring for 2 months, 50s-60s. Too cold for me. Wouldn't it be lovely to meet for tea some day? SusunW (talk) 16:04, 22 September 2022 (UTC)
- We do get as high as the 60's in Summer. I look forward to seeing your names and hearing your experiences. I get a lot of time to myself, as you might imagine. Wikipedia is the most interaction I have with other human beings outside my family and the few that live and work here in the area. It's why going to town is such a cherished activity. I miss people. --ARoseWolf 16:20, 22 September 2022 (UTC)

Today's looks like a snow kitty for sure. --ARoseWolf 15:03, 26 September 2022 (UTC)
- ARoseWolf - This time of year, I lean towards outdoor kitties, but this photo was just so unusual. Great to know it looks like a snow kitty! Today's high here is predicted to be 88F but I'm sure there's snow somewhere else. ;) --Rosiestep (talk) 16:24, 26 September 2022 (UTC)
- We are supposed to receive some snow this weekend possibly. We'll have to see how the weather patterns develop but it looks like maybe our first "winter" snow. Not expected to be much with it. Our first real storms usually don't hit until October but that's right around the corner, but then so is my winter break. --ARoseWolf 16:28, 26 September 2022 (UTC)
September music
Enjoy vacation! - The rose pic was taken on 11 Sep 2021, and this year was full of music that day, Tag des offenen Denkmals, not only singing in church and rehearsals for Verdi's Requiem, but two concerts at special places pictured, one a synagogue (pictured on its wall). Today three DYK: a piece we'll perform on Sunday, a violinist we heard in June playing the Berg Concerto (my brother played in the orchestra), and a Youth Orchestra shaped by a conductor who recently died. Almost too much of a good thing. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:38, 14 September 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks, Gerda Arendt. I have a lot of catching up to do (link-clicking, etc.) once I'm back home. --Rosiestep (talk) 04:45, 18 September 2022 (UTC)
- thank you for teaching me German! I had no idea what "gestrommelt" means until I saw the cat on display - did you see the strange llight in the pic I added last? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:50, 18 September 2022 (UTC)
- today, we sang old music for two choirs at church, pictured, scroll to the image of the organ of the month of the Diocese of Limburg (my perspective), and if you have time, watch the video about it --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:22, 18 September 2022 (UTC)

- Gerda Arendt, very nice, Like as the hart; also enjoyed learning about James O'Donnell (organist). Wish I could have watched the funeral services yesterday but was travelling back home. While I'm so happy to be back home and am ready to catch up with things, I'm not at full speed yet. I had a medical issue while traveling and now need to balance what I do with resting. Also, need to buy a new phone as mine was stolen while traveling. Also, awaiting news if my lost luggage was found. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:00, 20 September 2022 (UTC)
- O dear, best wishes, especially for health, but also the luggage. The full livestream is linked from the bottom of the piece's article, and now also for the other one, Who shall separate us?. Why the camera leaves the choir during a world premiere, to look at the vaults and flowers, is not for me to understand. - The conductor going to Yale: a friend studied there and performed in their Hymnen, and was please to find that performance mentioned - by Jerome Kohl. Will hopefully meet him in November, making plans. I never take more than carry-on luggage ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:11, 20 September 2022 (UTC)

Also, need to buy a new phone as mine was stolen while traveling. Also, awaiting news if my lost luggage was found. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:00, 20 September 2022 (UTC)

WikiProject Women in Green October 2022 Good Article Editathon
Hello Rosiestep:
WikiProject Women in Green is holding a month-long Good Article Editathon event in October 2022!
Running from October 1 to 31, 2022, WikiProject Women in Green (WiG) is hosting a Good Article (GA) editathon event – Wildcard Edition! Participants are invited to work on nominating and/or reviewing GA submissions related to any and all women and women's works during the event period. Want to improve an article about a Bollywood actress? Go for it. A pioneering female scientist? Absolutely. An award-winning autobiography by a woman? Yes! GA resources and one-on-one support will be provided by experienced GA editors, and participants will have the opportunity to receive a special WiG barnstar for their efforts.
We hope to see you there!
