Current class

[edit]

Greetings. I think you might want to take a look at the activity of one of your students: user:LunaRavenrose. Creating an article that already exists, by editing it and simply changing the name is a big no-no. Onel5969 TT me 13:44, 11 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, User:Onel5969 they are actually both mine. One is from my sandbox draft while the other one was the one I was editing with my sandbox draft. Currently waiting for my instructor to respond because I went live on both because I was confused on the transferring out of my sandbox. But I already reached out to her so thanks for your concern but I didn’t steal anything they are both my work( the same work at that) LunaRavenrose (talk) 14:08, 11 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Student mis-transitioning draft

[edit]

Hi there -- a student in your course seems to have incorrectly transitioned a draft into mainspace, and undoubtedly will need guidance, plus help with cleanup and moving the page properly when it's actually mainspace-ready (which it is not). Also looping in User:Helaine_(Wiki_Ed) and User:Brianda_(Wiki_Ed), who appear to be supervising the course. -- Avocado (talk) 21:15, 15 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Avocado Thanks for looping us all in on this. I've left a message to the student on their talk page about improving existing articles, which is what they're trying to do. Appreciate the ping, and always feel free to reach out when it comes to student work. Brianda (Wiki Ed) (talk) 17:01, 17 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! I'll follow up with them. Rockethound (talk) 18:36, 17 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. You might want to take a look at your student's stuff before they submit. This was submitted with zero citations. In addition, it's about a subject that already exists, Asgard.Onel5969 TT me 11:49, 27 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

What was submitted, please? I followed the link to Asgard - Home of the Norse Gods and no such page exists. There is no information in the deletion log that it did exist and was removed. Where should I be looking? Rockethound (talk)

Wikiproject

[edit]

Hi, I see you're a member of WP:Folklore, would you be interested in joining a wikiproject on oral tradition (which folklore is a subset of)? Kowal2701 (talk) 18:43, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, I'd be happy to join. Rockethound (talk) 19:54, 5 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The page is WP:WikiProject Anthropology/Oral tradition taskforce Kowal2701 (talk) 19:55, 5 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's so cool colleges do courses on wikipedia, great idea Kowal2701 (talk) 19:58, 5 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, there is an organization, https://wikiedu.org/, that promotes editing Wikipedia as a class project. I've found it very useful for teaching media literacy and netizenship, along with the topic of my class. Rockethound (talk) 20:10, 5 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
In searching for editors for the project I found loads of high quality contributors who were doing class projects, but unfortunately practically none I found were retained after their class. I think it's too easy to compartmentalise work and hobby, and in the interest of retaining high quality contributors I hope wikiedu takes this into account Kowal2701 (talk) 20:17, 5 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Talos

[edit]

Hi. I'd been working on rewriting the wikipedia page for Talos for a couple of weeks. I finally submitted the rewrite about an hour ago, only then to see note on the talk page that a student on your course had selected it for an assignment. I have no idea how the course or the assignment work, and I would assume that there is some procedure in place for dealing with such a problem, but I felt like I should apologise (both to you and the student) for any potential issue I've caused Endlesspumpkin (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 19:47, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

No worries! Really, My students are researching topics related to folklore and mythology to see where there are gaps in Wikipedia's coverage. You've just provided a real-time example of how these articles are living documents. Rockethound (talk) 17:43, 25 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
