Questions about edits for wikipage on the California Consumer Privacy Act
[edit]Hello! I've started drafting some edits for my assigned article. There is a section on opinion polling prior to the election that successfully passed the CCPR (proposition 24) into law. It seems redundant at this point since there are official results available, but I am hesitant to delete an entire section. The talk page for the article is basically empty except for a user planning to update it once official vote totals were out. Do you have any guidance on how to proceed? Lillianbroschart (talk) 04:15, 23 July 2024 (UTC)
- @Lillianbroschart, Hm. I think it's ok to remove the poll if you think it improves the quality of the article. Just be sure to explain in your edit summary why you are doing what are you are doing. If someone opposes that edit, then you can discuss it in the talk page. Brianda (Wiki Ed) (talk) 18:34, 23 July 2024 (UTC)
WikiEdu assignment setup questions
[edit]Hello Brianda,
Although I've used WikiEdu previously, it's been some years. Here are a few things that have come up for me so far:
1) how do I set deadlines for WikiEdu assignments? I'm not seeing anyway of doing so in the Dashboard Timeline under edit
2: does WikiEdu actually track individual student edits and additions? I seem to recall it does but I wanted to double-check
3) there's a third one but it's not coming b ack to me at the moment so I'll put it in when it does! Thanks.! (talk) 19:20, 28 July 2024 (UTC)
Need help request from Elizabeth.uni (talk)
[edit]Hello.
I need help with...
how to find my dashboard
--Elizabeth.uni (talk) 22:22, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Elizabeth.uni, The class dashboard is the page where you complete all the trainings and exercises, and that has a timeline for the project. You can access it at this link:
- Let me know if you have other questions. Brianda (Wiki Ed) (talk) 22:46, 29 August 2024 (UTC)
- Elizabeth.uni, here's a tip that may make it easier for you. Your user page has a link to your dashboard, so if you know how to get back to your user page, just go there to find it. If you don't know how to get back to your user page, find the user avatar icon at the top of every page at Wikipedia (including this page!) and click it; it looks like one of these two images to the right. On a desktop, clicking the icon takes you straight to your user page. On mobile, you will get a dropdown; click your own user id to go back to your user page. Either way, click the link in the box to get to your dashboard. Voilà! (talk page watcher) Mathglot (talk) 07:48, 30 August 2024 (UTC)
Hi Brianda. It looks like Cinnamonlover69 has chosen Ethics, an FA, for this class. That seems like a terrible idea. The FAC review was less than two months ago. Any additions to the page without opening a discussion on the talk page first will most likely be reverted due to PAGESIZE and SUMMARYSTYLE. -- Guerillero Parlez Moi 18:07, 27 September 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the heads up @Guerillero. The instructor and student were notified, and will be discussing changes. Brianda (Wiki Ed) (talk) 18:58, 1 October 2024 (UTC)
Hello.
I need help with editing the URL to wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User:Username/New_sandbox
--Achaleun (talk) 04:29, 1 October 2024 (UTC)
- Hello @Achaleun, This is the sandbox you need to use to work on your contribution to Wikipedia, User:Achaleun/Pritchardia kaalae. Please take a look at this training module for more instructions on drafting in a sandbox.
- As for that URL, that page does not exist, and doesn't need to be created. Do you have any other questions? Brianda (Wiki Ed) (talk) 19:53, 1 October 2024 (UTC)
Hello.
I need help with... Hi There, I need help with ensuring I'm editing in the correct sandbox as I begin to improve my article.
--LNTAYLOR (talk) 02:12, 2 October 2024 (UTC)
- Hello @LNTAYLOR, It seems to me you followed exactly what you needed to do by completing your bibliography and the outline. I see you've edited the article directly in small chunk edits, and followed the instruction on the "Working live on Wikipedia" training module. I think you are on track for the assignment so far. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Looping in @AnitaMixonJones. Brianda (Wiki Ed) (talk) 18:23, 10 October 2024 (UTC)
I see this article has just been assigned as an education project, which may not be a good idea given it's currently being reviewed and revised for Good Article status. I think in fairness to the people working on getting the article to GA, it might be a good idea to assign a different article to the student. Kerry (talk) 02:27, 3 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for reaching out about this and I completely agree. The thing is the students for this particular class are working on the French article for Gae Aulenti, not the English article. The Wiki Ed banner is being (erroneously) automatically populated by the Wiki Ed dashboard. We are trying to figure out how to fix this little bug. --Akuuuua88 (talk) 14:50, 15 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Akuuuua88, Is there a topic you already have in mind? If so, then the next step is to find at least 3 - 5 sources of information on the article topic. Do you have a list of sources in the works? Looping in @Ian (Wiki Ed). Brianda (Wiki Ed) (talk) 16:55, 15 October 2024 (UTC)
Invitation to participate in a research
[edit]Hello,
The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.
You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.
The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .
Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

Changing title of an existing Wikipedia entry
[edit]Hi Brianda,
I am currently working on updating and expanding the "Murder of Pregnant Women" Wikipedia page for my class. One of the edits I hope to make is changing the title to either "Pregnancy and Femicide" or "Pregnancy-Associated Femicide", and my professor recommended I contact you regarding this as this would be a significant edit. I was therefore wondering if you had any insight regarding whether or not making this edit would be possible?
Thank you!
-- Samdlb123 (talk) 22:29, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
- Hi User:Samdlb123, there is a process for "potentially controversial" page moves. I think using that process is probably a good idea. As described in the instructions, you would add some code like the following to Talk:Murder of pregnant women:
{{subst:requested move|Pregnancy and Femicide|reason=I think the page should be named "Pregnancy and Femicide" rather than "Murder of Pregnant Women" because....}}
- Edit: as I was typing up this comment, I see you just posted on the talk page within the last hour! Great job, that's exactly what you should do. You should wrap your comment in the wikitext above so that others who don't follow the Murder of pregnant women page will be notified of your proposal. If you need help doing so, just let me know.
- Cheers, Suriname0 (talk) 18:42, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Suriname0, I just used the code you provided for "potentially controversial" page moves on the Murder of pregnant women talk page, and wrapped the comment I had posted explaining my reason for the proposed change in the wikitext as well. Thank you so much for your help! Best, Samdlb123 (talk) 03:43, 31 October 2024 (UTC)
Request to translate a page
[edit]Hi Brianda,
My teacher asked me to contact you; here's the dashboard link to our class:https://dashboard.wikiedu.org/courses/Concordia/Media_and_Gender_F24_(Fall)
I chose to translate this article from French to English: https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chantal_Machab%C3%A9e, but it says that publishing translations is only for experienced users. I’ve already completed the translated version in my sandbox; here’s the link:User:WikiWriter1422/Chantal Machabée
Do you think there’s any way for me to publish it?
Thank you ! WikiWriter1422 (talk) 18:03, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
- @WikiWriter1422, I removed the statement about the attribution a the beginning of the article and placed in the edit summary of my edit. I also added a translation template to the talk page. Brianda (Wiki Ed) (talk) 19:54, 6 November 2024 (UTC)
Can't find the correct bibliography sandbox page
[edit]Hi Brianda,
I am trying to add a source to my bibliography sandbox, yet whenever I click on the "Bibliography" link under my assigned article, it forwards me to another students sandbox page and not my own. I was hoping you could help me figure this out. Thank You!
--MYeer (talk) 02:01, 3 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hello @MYeer, Since you are working in groups, the dashboard will assign one bibliography page and one sandbox draft page per group. It will assign those pages to the first student that signed up, which is probably why you are seeing the name of one of your peers instead of your own, but feel free to edit that page and contribute to it. Hope this clears things up. Brianda (Wiki Ed) (talk) 19:57, 6 November 2024 (UTC)
Need help request from Madutownsend (talk)
[edit]Hello.
I need help with...
Under the reference section, when I try to edit my sources (add or delete) it opens the coding section. However, my peers are given a different option, they can use the citing tool that wikipedia provides to do so. I, on the other hand, do not have access to the same resource. Can you check this issue for me, please?
--Madutownsend (talk) 17:13, 6 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Madutownsend, Check out this slide on Visual editing vs Source editing. It has a screenshot showing how to switch from source editing (wiki code) to Visual Editing, where you can use the cite tool. Give it a try and let me know how it goes. --Antiblu (talk) 21:39, 11 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hello @Antiblu, Are you working in a group? If you are then your group sandbox page is User:LanitaDelRey1/Javier Zamora. I recommend looking over the training, Drafting in a sandbox, for a refresher on this. Brianda (Wiki Ed) (talk) 20:27, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
Reminder to participate in Wikipedia research
[edit]Hello,
I recently invited you to take a survey about administration on Wikipedia. If you haven’t yet had a chance, there is still time to participate– we’d truly appreciate your feedback. The survey is anonymous and should take about 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement.
Take the survey here.

Need help request from Longislanduni2025 (talk)
[edit]Hello.
I need help with...
hi. I am having a very hard time using wikipedia to edit my article. I need to find the proper sandbox to edit my article for my class and it keeps saying there is a "my article" section when I don't see one. I also don't know how to copy and paste the article over fully so that the citations and sources transfer over.
--Longislanduni2025 (talk) 15:05, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hello @Longislanduni2025, If you check out this training module on the timeline, you'll see that the instructions are to work live on Wikipedia, without a sandbox. That is why you cannot find a sandbox to work on.
- Can you share with me where you read the instruction's about copying and pasting the article over? Brianda (Wiki Ed) (talk) 17:59, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
- I was just really confused on the whole thing so for some reason that's what I thought we had to do. So all I do is go to my article and hit edit and publish whatever changes I make? that's it? Longislanduni2025 (talk) 20:34, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
- Well the first crucial step is to develop your bibliography and outline of the changes you'll be making. If you check Week 4 on the timeline, you'll see the trainings module, Building your bibliography for this. Once you know what sources you'll be using and have a plan for your edits, then you can start editing the article you've chosen to work on. Brianda (Wiki Ed) (talk) 23:12, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Brianda. I watched the module again to move my article for grading and it won't let me move it because it says "source destination titles are the same, can't move page over itself". im not sure what that means. How can I move it? Longislanduni2025 (talk) 15:15, 19 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Longislanduni2025, As part of the course, you are instructed to edit directly the existing Regime article. I am not sure what page you are trying to move, but if you selected to improve an existing article then you need to edit that existing article. There are other students in your editing the same article. Again I suggest looking over the Working live training module for instructions on frequet, small edits to improve a page. University of Wyoming/Architectural History (Fall 2024)
[edit]Hi Brianda. I believe one of the students in Wikipedia:Wiki_Ed/University_of_Wyoming/Architectural_History_(Fall_2024) named TMaese probably needs some additional guidance when it comes to uploading and using images. They upload the same file under different names to Wikipedia and Commons, and the copyright license they're using is almost certainly wrong. In addition, the way they've added images to Lehman-Tunnell Mansion is also not really how it should be done. Perhaps could discuss this stuff with them. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:33, 19 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for letting me know @Marchjuly. I've called @TMaese's attention to the discussion to either chime in with clear evidence this is in the public domain or some other allowable license, or whether it was a beginner's mistake. Brianda (Wiki Ed) (talk) 17:35, 19 November 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Hello! I hope you're doing well!
For our class, we were tasked with either editing or creating a wiki page, and though I have completed all of the training, it's not letting me use my sandbox, so I've made my entire article on Google Drive so that I wouldn't be behind in the class. However, now I am unable to upload this article to the wiki. I would greatly appreciate it if you could help me navigate this issue. I created a page for the Asian Pacific Environmental Network (APEN). I hope you have a great rest of your day, and I look forward to hearing from you!
All the best,
