Minor edits

[edit]

Hi there RoC1607. Thank you for your contribution to Mountain Lake, Florida. You put in the edit summary that this was a WP:MINOR edit. Although I can't imagine people objecting to the edit you made, just wanted to flag for you that substantive edits (however noncontroversial they are likely to be) don't qualify as WP:Minor. For this one, you might have said in the edit summary "added detail about designers/developers" or something like that. Thanks. Novellasyes (talk) 19:27, 24 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for that heads up. I understand and appreciate your suggestion. RoC1607 (talk) 19:31, 24 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You bet. I feel like that article and this one: Mountain Lake Estates Historic District are about very interesting places but it's hard to get WP:RS on them. Novellasyes (talk) 22:04, 24 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. In this particular case, I come at it from a unique perspective as a shareholder, property owner, and board member of Mountain Lake. Interestingly, in response to your comment, Mountain Lake, Florida and Mountain Lake Estate Historic District are more or less the same thing - Mountain Lake, Florida (technically, Mountain Lake Corporation) owns hundreds of acres of orange groves which are not part of the historic district, but all of the historic district is part of Mountain Lake.
Also, there was a misleading typo in the earlier version, saying that Olmsted and Raynor (and Ruth) developed Fisher Island, whereas it should have said Fishers Island. Fisher Island is near Miami, and Fishers Island is in Long Island Sound. Both great, but very different. 168.91.213.223 (talk) 22:39, 24 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh this is great! I have wondered for a few years if those two articles ought to be WP:Merge. I'm going to think about that some more based on this new information. It sounds like such a great place to live and/or visit. Novellasyes (talk) 22:53, 24 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It is a special place, for sure. Let me know if you need any other info! 168.91.213.223 (talk) 23:41, 24 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, so it seems as if the two articles should be merged (the two articles being Mountain Lake Estates Historic District and Mountain Lake, Florida) but also, that the ultimate combined article should be called Mountain Lake Corporation, Florida. Does that sound right? Novellasyes (talk) 12:08, 25 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good, but I would just call it Mountain Lake, or Mountain Lake Florida. The corporation can be referenced in the text, but it is best known just as Mountain Lake. If you need any information, please just let me know. 168.91.213.223 (talk) 13:56, 25 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I took a shot at merging the two articles: Mountain Lake, Florida. Novellasyes (talk) 23:39, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This looks great. A few suggestions, though:
Just before Historic buildings, it is said that Colony House is nearby, whereas it is in the center of the community.
Under Historic buildings, Pinewood was renamed back to El Retiro about a year ago. Both El Retiro and Colony House are still listed on the National Register, as opposed to previously listed. And in the sentence starting "A significant building," I would suggest saying that Colony House is used as a clubhouse for the members and offers rooms for their guests.
Under Notable people, another good one to add would be Roger W Babson. I'll go through the club's history and see who else I can find...
Thanks! RoC1607 (talk) 11:50, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
