File source problem with File:Wheeler Peak,Nevada.jpg
Thank you for uploading File:Wheeler Peak,Nevada.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.
If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.
Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. - I wasn't watching my talk page on this one. But since it is the lead image on Great Basin National Park webpage [1] for many years (and it was licensed as PD-NPS) and shows up twice in a Tineye search, I don't really think due diligence was done before nominating and deleting this. As usual, which is why I rarely add images to Wikipedia anymore. Rmhermen (talk) 02:56, 9 December 2011 (UTC)

It seemed to me that the filter had made a false pos (as it often does) and that a consensus had emerged for no action (although, now that I think of it, the FP should have been reported, or at the very least I could have removed it to the talk page). Daniel Case (talk) 02:30, 9 December 2011 (UTC)
Sault Ste. Marie
So what is WP to do then? True, the place was not Michigan at the time that La Salle sent his men there. But the place where he did send his men eventually became the place that is referenced by the Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, article. The link you set (sending readers to the disambiguation page) does not resolve your concern because all of the articles listed on the disambiguation page are about places or entities that also did not exist at the time, so the topic's ambiguity is not resolved by the disambig. So, does WP need a Colonial Sault Ste. Marie or Sault Ste. Marie (French Mission) article to reference to the place that was not yet Michigan?
On the other hand, the article does (accurately) say "they went on to what is now known as" SSM, Michigan. RedJ 17 (talk) 01:02, 12 December 2011 (UTC)
- And as a point of trivia, SSM was part of Michigan Territory 1805. RedJ 17 (talk) 01:06, 12 December 2011 (UTC)
- No, the line wasn't set until 1817 according to the cities' articles. And both sides are equally Sault Ste. Marie (the place he sent his men to was not now the Michigan one - it was just Sault Ste. Marie -both sides of the river, one community, two countries now). Not every link to a disambiguation page is bad. Note the comment on the talk page there. Thanks for the pointer to the page! I found several of users who weren't in the group I had found, which means there are more of us still around than I had thought. And I'm amazed that you've been around longer than me, yet I never even suspected that. (And you may even outlast me on Wikipedia.) Adding to User talk:CaroleHenson: It is not very friendly (or helpful) to slap "bad article" tags on an article with an "under construction" tag on it. Give me a few minutes to finish writing already. Rmhermen (talk) 19:12, 1 January 2012 (UTC)
- Sorry about that, I'm using an automated program and have no idea what article you're speaking of. Sorry that I missed seeing the {{under construction}} template. If you don't want any edits at all made while you're creating an article, you may want to consider adding the {{in use}} template. I set a flag in the program to ignore all {{in use}} sitations.--CaroleHenson (talk) 19:16, 1 January 2012 (UTC)

G12 of India-Paraguay relations
Sorry but I disagree with your denial of the G12 deletion. There's numerous direct copies and the structure's even the same (the elements are in the same order). In my opinion this is a blatant and obvious copyvio as changing a few words does not remove the copyright problem. I have asked one of wikipedia copyright expert's for a second opinion here. Dpmuk (talk) 18:26, 10 January 2012 (UTC)
- Ok. Even if it is a copyright problem does not mean it is a speedy delete though. We have a regular process for complicated cases: WP:Copyright problems. Rmhermen (talk) 18:28, 10 January 2012 (UTC)
- I'm aware of that - I'm pretty active in copyright - but I don't think it reaches that level of complexity as there's only one main contributor and no chance of the text being released. Yours is the first G12 I've had declined in quite a way hence the request for a second opinion. I'm not necessarily expecting it to be deleted immediately but it would be nice to know if it was down to a difference in admin opinion rather than anything more fundamental - especially as I'd hope to be running for adminship reasonably soon myself. Dpmuk (talk) 18:37, 10 January 2012 (UTC)
- Speedy deletion is designed for undisputable actions. Painfully obvious cases, blatant copying. In that article, I see one properly attributed quote, a few reworded lines, a couple instances of direct copying of non-copyrightable simple expressions. Not a clear case at all. Link spam by IP
Hi, I noticed we both warned an IP about link spamming recently. FYI, I have requested a soft block of the IP for external link spamming w/o editorial intent (a form of vandalism). Details, if you care to follow this, are here. I'm leaving you this note because I mentioned your warning in my write-up, but I am not asking for any specific action on your part. - Just wondering why you removed the CSD for this page. The only thing notable about her was that she married John Leslie, 1st Duke of Rothes, is this sufficient for notability? Gsingh (talk) 20:01, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
- Try AfD perhaps. Speedy deletion only requires a claim of notability. Her work opposing the government church seems more notable than her spouse. Rmhermen (talk) 19:40, 3 February 2012 (UTC)
- Ok thanks, is there any notability criteria or policy? I was looking at WP:BIO and WP:ROYALTY but couldn't find anything. Gsingh (talk) 19:49, 3 February 2012 (UTC)
- There is also Wikipedia:Notability. But testing whether something is notable is for AfD, speedy is indisputable stuff. Rmhermen (talk) 19:55, 3 February 2012 (UTC)
MSU Interview
Dear Rmhermen,
My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.
So a few things about the interviews:
- Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
- Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
- All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
- All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
- The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.
Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your name HERE instead.
If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.
Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) 07:26, 12 February 2012 (UTC)

List of areas in the United States National Park System
Tis a silly argument we're having with the IP over at List of areas in the United States National Park System...the IP is right about the full official name which is Cape Hatteras National Seashore Recreation Area...but the Recreation Area bit was semi-officially dropped long ago and even the signs, brochures and related material omit these two words. I did some research on the matter and found that there are apparently some anxious battles between off-road vehicle owners/interest groups and conservationists regarding access...but where the truth is and isn't over the entire matter seems pretty difficult to get adequate info on, even from supposedly reliable news sources...it hasn't appeared in detail on a national level. I left a note for the IP and since the NPS doesn't have any designation of Seashore/Recreation Area and this seashore isn't an actual recreation area (per designation such as in Lake Mead National Recreation Area) and the NPS seems to call it by its original name, there isn't much more that we can do except to follow the preponderance of evidence. I updated Cape Hatteras National Seashore with a reference and some cleanup...maybe that will suffice.--MONGO 03:19, 11 May 2012 (UTC)

Camp Dearborn
Why did you delete the photos in Camp Dearborn? Those photos are owned and operated by me. They were my grandfather Joseph M. Ford's. Why did you delete all the work I did on the pager earlier today? What do I need to do to allow the pictures to be added?

Camp Dearborn and photos
I do not think being mean and saying learning about copy rights is difficult. I do not know what is so difficult about my family taking photos and wanting to donate them. All the photos of Joseph M. Ford I have uploaded were taken by family members not a professional. The Lake photos might have been taken by a professional so I am okay with you deleting them. As for deleting the content I was unaware that siting word for word and referencing it was forbidden on Wiki. I will use my own words in the future. Also, Why did you delete the content regarding Joseph M. Ford on the page and the new format? The page looked a lot better the way I had it formatted. Maybe in the future instead of deleting an entire days work of a user why don't you try sending them a message asking them to make changes first. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Robertawillard (talk • contribs) 02:54, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

Page Deletions
For what ever reason you are very possessive of YOUR Camp Dearborn page. I feel sorry for people like you. I started a new page because I felt it could be done a better way and I was tired of fighting with you. You should learn to work better with others. Instead of running around critiquing and deleting pages you should be working with others and contributing. Plus your references are videos and you have no real references to any of your pages. I have all original news articles, books and photos from that time period in Dearborn. It is a shame that you want to keep pages that are not factual and based on one video. I will go outside of Wiki and spread the truth the right way with my own website. Good luck spreading incorrect information on Wiki. ~~Robertawillard
- I am sorry that your experience here has been bad but you don't seem interested in working the Wikipedia-way. I have not removed any referenced information from the article, nor am I the only person who has critiqued your work. As an aside the video linked in the article is produced by the Dearborn Historical Museum, surely you will agree a reliable source. Rmhermen (talk) 18:30, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

Re: Princess Pauline pages
Thank you for the response. I apologize if the following is confusing, but I will try to lay out my intentions simply:
- Currently Pauline of Württemberg is a dab page, but I would like to make Princess Pauline of Württemberg the dab page instead for those with a similar name.
- Then, I will be moving Pauline Therese of Württemberg to Pauline of Württemberg, as that is what she was known as.
I probably went about all this incorrectly, for which I apologize. The "non-Princess" was born a Princess of Württemberg, and thus I think she fits on the dab page (better than any other dab page). I should add that including royal titles in article titles is the norm (see Wikipedia:Naming conventions (royalty and nobility)#Other royals).
If possible, I would like you or another editor to delete the re-direct page Princess Pauline of Württemberg so that I can make it a dab page (rather than do an improper copy and paste move). Again, I apologize if I have gone about this incorrectly. Regards, Ruby 2010/2013 17:41, 25 July 2012 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Paige Clark
Could you reconsider your speedy deletion of Paige Clark for A7? The article made a claim of notability (named 2012 International Junior Miss Maryland) and a claim of notability should be sufficient to defeat a speedy deletion nomination. I believe that this should have been an AfD discussion rather than a CSD. Regards, GregJackP Boomer! 02:43, 16 August 2012 (UTC)
- Well, you didn't nominate it for AfD while two people did nominate it for Speedy. Not every claim is a claim of notability (or any statement would satisfy the criteria). If you think the article stands a chance of surviving AfD, you should take it to deletion review. Rmhermen (talk) 02:57, 16 August 2012 (UTC)
- I don't really think that deletion review is based on whether it will survive an AfD, only if a CSD was appropriate. I also don't have any particular interest in the specific article, only the process, and it was my understanding that any claim of notability is enough to defeat a CSD. If the claim is a claim of notability, it was also my understanding that AfD was the proper venue rather than CSD. Anyway, if you think I should go to deletion review with it, that's what I'll do - I do appreciate you taking the time to respond and the explanation that you gave me. Regards, GregJackP Boomer! 03:07, 16 August 2012 (UTC)
- You could take an article which would never survive AfD to deletion review, but it would be very unlikely to pass. And then would be deleted at AfD - so what would be the point? The article would still not exist. The process is only to support building the encyclopedia, not to check all boxes, jump all hoops. (As an aside, I, personally, would not have speedy it if it had been an active AfD - although other admins might have.) Rmhermen (talk) 03:18, 16 August 2012 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, per your earlier advice I was submitting the article for review and did not see your last comment until I came back to let you know. A quick check of Google had already found several refs from different locations, so there is a possibility that the article, once expanded, could survive an AfD, although I don't believe that is the standard for review. Regards, GregJackP Boomer! 03:39, 16 August 2012 (UTC)
- No problem. Rmhermen (talk) 03:49, 16 August 2012 (UTC)
- Follow up: The article was speedy restored by JClemens, who thought, and I agreed, that the standard for passing speedy A7 is only an indication of notability and nothing more. My own practice if I accidentally delete something for which any reasonable good faith claim can be made, is that if asked, I restore it. And send it to AfD if appropriate. i will advise the editor to make it stronger if they want it to pass afd, but if they want it restored as it stands, I restore it. I doubt this article will be kept, but the ed. has the right to a community opinion. DGG ( talk ) 16:33, 16 August 2012 (UTC)
- Just as an aside, I have no problem with my interaction with Rmhermen - he has been courteous and open to discussion during this entire process. We just disagreed on one small little area of Wikipedia, and I certainly respect his right to a differing view on the process. I wish more of the admins I have dealt with were as open to discussion as he has been. Regards, GregJackP Boomer! 20:06, 16 August 2012 (UTC)

File source problem with File:Comet Tempel 1.jpg
Thank you for uploading File:Comet Tempel 1.jpg.
Thank you. Bulwersator (talk) 09:17, 28 August 2012 (UTC)

hello;
i am writing this because you have included a [citation needed] template approximately 1/2 line ahead of the actual reference link which i included.
i am not clear what fact it is that you feel is unreferenced?

- One effort to enforce what may be valid copyright protection is not proof of consistent "aggressive" behavior. But it seems the very next editor removed that line - and the editor after that removed the whole section. Rmhermen (talk) 14:05, 16 November 2012 (UTC)

Hand-coding
Hey all :).
I'm dropping you a note because you've been involved in dealing with feedback from the Article Feedback Tool. To get a better handle on the overall quality of comments now that the tool has become a more established part of the reader experience, we're undertaking a round of hand coding - basically, taking a sample of feedback and marking each piece as inappropriate, helpful, so on - and would like anyone interested in improving the tool to participate :).
You can code as many or as few pieces of feedback as you want: this page should explain how to use the system, and there is a demo here. Once you're comfortable with the task, just drop me an email at okeyeswikimedia.org and I'll set you up with an account :).
If you'd like to chat with us about the research, or want live tutoring on the software, there will be an office hours session on Monday 17 December at 23:00 UTC in #wikimedia-office connect. Hope to see some of you there! Thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 23:28, 14 December 2012 (UTC)

U.S. Marshals 1998 film
It still doesn't make sense. How in the world did Mark get exonerated for shooting Tommy? In the garage, didn't Mark commit a crime by selling government secrets to that Gangster?(76.20.90.53 (talk) 04:07, 15 January 2013 (UTC)).
- Older version of our article have a less muddled plot description: He did not commit any crimes in the garage because he was working under orders, then defending himself then framed for crimes. Shooting the marshall may have been a crime but the government could not prosecute him without exposing itself and it would be hard to find a jury to convict him when the government had already framed him and tried to kill him. It would be an unwinnable case and risk exposing too many government secrets so no trial. Rmhermen (talk) 06:01, 15 January 2013 (UTC)

Hospital ship is the closest category we have (both have big crosses painted on the ship saying don't shoot). Rmhermen (talk) 17:13, 28 February 2013 (UTC)
Image copyright problem with File:CessationMedallion.jpg
Thank you for uploading File:CessationMedallion.jpg.
This image is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such images would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a screenshot of a computer game or movie. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original image must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.
While the image description page states the source and copyright status of the derivative work, it only names the creator of the original work without specifying the status of their copyright over the work.
Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the original image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.
If you have uploaded other derivative works, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. Thanks again for your cooperation. Kelly hi! 04:31, 5 March 2013 (UTC)
Sister links
Hello Rmhermen, at Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals)#Discussion 2 you opposed my proposal for a more visible sister-link to Wikivoyage in some articles, because you do not see why one sister project should be favoured over the others. Do you think you could be supportive of an alternative proposal, in a similar spirit—the exact details of which have yet to be worked out, but which would cover all our sister projects, so as not to discriminate between them? Cheers, —Ruud 23:00, 7 March 2013 (UTC)

Hi Rmhermen, I recommended User:DanielledeMedeiros for speedy deletion because the account's only purpose is to promote the user name blog site. I, of course, don't want to tag legitimate accounts. Did I miss something here? I certainly will use any recommendations you have in the future. Cheers.--I am One of Many (talk) 00:05, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
- We usually allow some leeway on User pages and since the user is very new some editor engagement may be more appropriate than insta-deletion. However since I now notice the user has no article edits and a promotional sandbox, I am starting to think you are probably correct. Rmhermen (talk) 00:09, 11 March 2013 (UTC)

I noticed you removed one of the speedy deletion tags on a page I've assited in. That same user has put AfD's on all my pages. Numbers on Death Row in States
The question is: Are the numbers I use correct and up to date? The answer to this is yes. Your assertion that the numbers are updated from time to time by use of other sources carries very little weight and or relevance for a numbers of reasons. Not the least of which is The Anti-Capital Punishment bias of Wikipedia. The amount of disinformation, propaganda, lies, half truths and blatant intellectual dishonesty is staggering. In future please take care to not correct others. When your sources are so completely laughable.
- I haven't edited the numbers recently. They come from a given source on a given date and are WP:Verifiable. If you do WP:Original research and subtract the executed from death row when they are executed, you no longer have a verifiably true number and probably an incorrect one if you haven't also added new death sentences, exonerations, re-sentencings, commutations, deaths on death row, etc. If you have an alternate more up-to-date WP:Reliable source (perhaps from the DOJ or state prisons departments), we can work that into the table.
