Hi. Do you have a source for the information you added to this article about the Baths being converted to an ice-skating rink? That's new information to me. I left it in the article, but marked it as needing a citation. If you have a source and need assistance adding it to the article, let me know. Beyond My Ken (talk) 19:21, 11 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your review as I am only offering edits to existing articles while I learn and before I post my own articles. There are many references to the Sutro Baths converted to an Ice Rink (probably in the 1930's) as I had skated there more than once. I will go back to my addition and learn about the citation process... this is one quick link: https://californiathroughmylens.com/sutro-baths/ and I apologise if my response to your comment is either an incorrect post or too long... I will make learning more about the "talk" process ASAP! Thanks again. Ralsted (talk) 19:48, 11 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for adding a citation so quickly. There was a problem with it, though, in that blogs are not generally considered to be reliable sources - see WP:SPS for information on that. It's OK, though, because the blog entry cited the National Park Service's history of the baths, which was alread a cited source for the paragraph, so I was wrong in saying that the ice skating rink information needed another source. I have adjusted things, so everything's fine.
It must have been something, ice skating in that building. The first time I went to San Francisco was in the 80s, so I only know the site as a ruin. Thanks again, Beyond My Ken (talk) 20:14, 11 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your help and I will continue to read / learn... and yes, the building, and experience, was VERY special... imagine walking in at the street level, where all of the exhibits were, and then walking to where the binoculars were positioned for looking down to the baths and then ice rink... the same type of binoculars as are still there; looking down on the ruins. Ralsted (talk) 20:28, 11 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

What a great memory to have. I wish I had seen the building, although the ruins are very special in another way entirely. Beyond My Ken (talk) 20:31, 11 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

In re-reviewing the Article it reminded me of the prior reference (not by me) under infrastructure, to there having had an ice rink... also, if you have not read about it, there was a tram from the building to Point Lobos; i.e. through the rock and with me being about 4 or 5 years old, for my first trip, the tram ride was much like those found down the road at Playland-at-the-Beach. I have made a note to expand on this subject at some point. Thanks again. Ralsted (talk) 20:37, 11 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You noted the ruins "are very special in another way entirely." I have one view, or set of memories, yet it would be interesting to learn about yours so one of us can edit this or any other / future site from a different view point. Ralsted (talk) 20:40, 11 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Just be careful about WP:Neutral point of view and personal commentary, which is not allowed in articles (see WP:OR).
I'm a bit pressed for time at the moment, but I will note that I make it a point to go out to the Baths any time that I'm in San Francisco. The last time out, I introduced my sister to them, which was gratifying. All cities should have some ruins to remind us that things weren't always what they are in the present, and about history and the passage of time. Here in New York City, with our mania for rebuilding, there are still some remnants of an older time, although none as spectacular (in their way) as the Baths. Beyond My Ken (talk) 20:53, 11 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Have to run, but I did want to note that I'm one of the primary authors of the article. [1]. Some of the images are mine as well. Beyond My Ken (talk) 20:55, 11 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your clarity re: "what they seem" (what use to be)... my school years were aimed at architecture and while taking a different direction I remain passionate about buildings and their past/s...you might find this one interesting http://www.tongaroom.com/about/, and for a future trip if you have not already (especially fun for kids as there is unexpected thunder and rain...also, and primarily, thank you for the 'heads up' as to personal commentary which I am aware of and hope my editing process will safeguard this; i.e. doing the best I can with references for others to enjoy, and find their own memories and viewpoints.

BTW: one of my favorite memories while in the Northeast in the late 1960's was a day at https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Palisades_Amusement_Park, especially the roller coaster on the top of the cliff with a LONG way down. Those looking across the Hudson now-a-days is like looking at the Sutro Ruins as to "what use to be"... growing up in California I ahd plenty of amusement parks but this one was at the back of most of comic books and thus a 'far a way dream to see'. Ralsted (talk) 21:40, 11 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, yes, Palisades Amusement Park. I never went there (we lived closer to Rye Playland), but I do remember it. There was also one in the Bronx that we passed when driving into the city from the suburbs, I think where Co-Op City is now. "Something USA". Beyond My Ken (talk) 21:47, 11 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Freedomland U.S.A. -- although because I was prone to nausea, I didn't go to amusement parks very often. Beyond My Ken (talk) 21:49, 11 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Never really got the hang of ice skating, either. Beyond My Ken (talk) 21:50, 11 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
