Town Mountain has had a single or album on any country's national music chart and has won first, second or third place in a major music competition. Doesn't this pass WP:NBAND?

not sure how this would be sockpuppetry? I am working from a school with an interesting firewall that may have misrepresented my intentions. I, in no way, am looking to disrupt the function of Wikipedia. I apologize for the inconvenience and would like to appeal this block Qwestyun (talk) 13:44, 26 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I can assure you I am not a sock puppet. I am an English teacher who happens to enjoy editing Wikipedia articles. I am also a huge fan of music. I grew up listening to Jupiter Coyote and I have made it a goal to get them included in Wikipedia. I understand that my pages need work, and I am willing to put that work in, but I do not feel there is a need to block me from doing so. Please consider lifting block. Thank you for your time.

Decline reason:

What is your relationship to User:Mattbmayes, then, who edits from the same IP as you and also just wants to write about Jupiter Coyle? --jpgordon𝄢𝄆𝄐𝄇 15:16, 26 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

(non-adimn comment) So you expect us to believe its coincidence that you are checkuser confirmed to Mattbmayes who was blocked for also promoting Jupiter Coyote? Come on we aren't idiots. Lavalizard101 (talk) 15:08, 26 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I never said what I was expecting anyone to believe, so be easy. I also KNOW that you are not idiots. The reason checkuser confirmed is because Mr. Mayes had failed several times to successfully get the page added. I took on the challenge of attempting to do so. I realize I made a mistake by using his account early on, but I quickly created my own account and have been contributing where I can, when I can. As mentioned, I am a seventh grade English teacher, so I don't have time for subterfuge. I know the contributions this band has made to the independent music world, and I firmly believe they should be included in Wikipedia. I respect what you guys do, and I look forward to becoming more involved in page editing and creation. Please consider lifting block. Thank you for your time.

Your statement about using the Mattbmayes account and then "quickly creat[ing]" your own account is not true. The Mattbmayes account was blocked on September 20 at 16:42. The Qwestyun account was created on September 20 at 21:13, less than 5 hours later. In other words, as soon as you were blocked, you created another account.--Bbb23 (talk) 15:29, 26 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

As I mentioned earlier, I know that was a mistake on my behalf. I do apologize, but I was still learning how Wikipedia worked. I am also sorry if I misused the word "quickly". Once again, I would greatly appreciate my block being lifted. I am going through editing withdrawals. Thank you for your time.

Assume good faith, if possible. An alternate account that is not used for abuse does not warrant a complaint. Keep in mind that users may sometimes make mistakes, so in cases where an alternate account is largely used for legitimate activities, it may be appropriate to ask the user before making accusations. The problem might merely have been caused by a mistaken login or other absent-mindedness.

There was abuse, the previous account was blocked thus all edits with this account were in contravene to the policy WP:BE. Lavalizard101 (talk) 16:55, 26 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

--jpgordon That was an error on my part, I admit that. When Mattbmayes asked for my assistance determining why his article could not get approved, I let him know that he was "too close" to the subject matter. Using his account (from my IP address), I edited and improved his tone and actually ended up learning a lot through the process. Once his account was blocked, I created my own account and began editing and creating from it. I can assure you that there was no ill intent on my part. I obviously made a mistake, and my research shows that this is not a completely uncommon mistake people (especially newbies) make. Is there anything I can do to prove that there was no ill intent? Can I submit a DNA sample to prove that I am who I am? ;)

So you're a 7th grade teacher who just happens to know a band singer who asked you to help him promote his band? And why would you share the same IP? Is Matt in the 7th grade?--Bbb23 (talk) 18:32, 26 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Bbb23 Yes, I am a seventh grade teacher that knows a "band singer". He did not ask me to help "promote" his band. His band has been active and touring for over 30 years. They do not need promotion, and if they did, Wikipedia is not the place for that. They need to be documented and added to this vast encyclopedic thing called Wikipedia. Jupiter Coyote emerged pre-internet... pre-wikipedia... and pre-digital media. They have left their mark in the music world, I just thought they needed to be remembered down the road. We do not share an IP. I explained that. If you would like, feel free to give them a listen. Obviously, taste in music is subjective, but you might just like it. Matthew Mayes lives in Georgia. I teach school and live in Alabama.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Qwestyun (talkcontribs) 19:13, 26 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I've just done a search for Reliable sources regarding Jupiter Coyote, your claim that they left their mark on the music world is laughable, if it really was true there would be reliable sources talking about them which sadly does not exist. You also say that they emerged pre-internet, given that their own bio says they formed in 1990, the World Wide Web has existed since 1990 (general public could use the world wide web from 1991) with the internet prexisting for two decades, that is a false claim. Lavalizard101 (talk) 19:31, 26 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Even bands pre-internet still generated reliable sources, so the fact that they are pre-internet means nothing for Wikipedia. Lavalizard101 (talk) 19:41, 26 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Lavalizard101 Laughable? This ain't dinosaurs, dude. I feel like you are out of your area when discussing music. I know that you do not mean to be as condescending as you come across, but I will forgive you since you are basically a kid. I appreciate the feedback from most admins and look forward to learning more about Wikipedia in the future, but if you speak to everyone like this... it's kind of sad. talk

Irregardless of topic it comes down to RS coverage, of which for Jupiter Coyote there was no RS Coverage that I could find. Also thanks for the condescending remarks about me being out of my area and "basically a kid". Anyway this discussion is getting off topic from the block so I will make no further comments. Lavalizard101 (talk) 21:01, 26 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Here's the sequence. The mattbmayes account, which you controlled at the time, got blocked on Sept. 20. You created another account for the purpose of evading the block on that account and for continuing work on the article which had already been turned down for lack of reliable sources and for its utterly promotional nature. This is the definition of abusing multiple accounts. --jpgordon𝄢𝄆𝄐𝄇 23:45, 26 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
